Conversion of 232 GB external hard drive from NTFS to FAT32.

I already tried a lot of free programs and other people say those free whenever I go to apply the changes, it says you need to purchase the program before any changes can be made. I tried cmd prompt, but he said that the volume was great to convert to FAT32. I tried to use windows help and they give me the steps but when I select the options it gives only me exFAT and NTFS. That's it for external use with my PS3 HD and he only read FAT32. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

To format a hard drive in FAT32 partition

  1. To open computer management, click Start , and then click Control Panel . Click system and Maintenance , click Administrative Tools and then double-click computer management .

  2. In the Navigation pane, the (Local) computer management, under storage, click Disk Management.

  3. Right click on the partition to be formatted, then click on format.

  4. In the Format dialog box, under file system, select FAT32, click OK, and then click OK again.

  • Transfer data to external hard drive from XP to Vista

How would I be able to transfer data from a XP hard drive (which is in an external case) on my new laptop with Windows Vista? Please let me know. Thank you very much.

original title: I have a XP hard drive in an external case, and I would like to transfer the data on Windows Vista.

    There are several options:

External drive is already connected via USB?  Your new computer sees the old disk when you open Explorer?  Is the drive external HARD in the format identical to the new machine Vista (probably NtfS)?  If this isn't the case, you must first convert the external hard drive to NTFS.  http://technet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456984.aspx (although written for XP, it works with Vista as well).

If so, create a new folder on the new disc called 'From Old Computer'. Go to the old drive. Now * COPY * ("hold") the files to the new folder that you created. After getting everything copied on you can turn off the computer and unplugging the old drive to protect its content - where everything is not going according to plan.

Now you can take your time by placing the files copied, where you want that they finally reside on your new computer.

If you have problems with 'Access denied', follow these steps on the external drive of the new computer:

In Explorer, right-click on the drive in question and select Properties

On the Security tab, click Advanced
    On the owner tab
Select you realize if it isn't already and
Check "Replace owner of subcontainers and objects".
Click OK twice (close all dialog boxes)

Defines you as the owner of every folder and file on the disk

In Explorer, right-click on the drive in question and select Properties

On the Security tab, add your account if it is not already there and set full access
    Click on apply
    Click on advanced
Check "Replace permission on the child all the objects with...» »
    Click on apply

If you do not see a Security tab, then turn off Simple file sharing (you may need to do in reconnedcting the count to the old XP machine - I'm not sure that this can be done through the new computer).  To do this, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881.  The same may be true if the nets and records are password protected (although using a different procedure to remove the password to protenctio similar to what lets you add it iin the first place.)

If you have problems setting up the permissions or ownership on the disk external drive files and folders, some information here that might help:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

If the external hard drive is not USB but IDE instead, here is an article on two methods that work for transfer: http://www.wikihow.com/Transfer-Data-Between-Two-Hard-Drives.

    ==================================================================================================================

I realide what follows is not what you asked, but if it is still possible, it might be a better solution than moving the data to the external hard drive.

If the external hard drive has only the data and you want to transfer settings and data (and perhaps even of programs if they are compatible with Vista) from the old XP machine (if it is always present and contains information on the new computer (which is better because it also transfers your program and other parameters (and maybe your programs) as well as the data (or you can ignore the data if it is the same which is))) already on the external drive))), then use the transfer tool.  Here's how: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Migrating-Vista-using-Windows-Easy-Transfer.html#.  This is how I do the trasfer if I had to do it because it makes the implementation of the new computer much easier and faster.

Here is another article on how to transfer data and settings from an XP machine to a new Vista computer using an external hard drive (although it discusses other methods as well): http://www.digitaltrends.com/how-to/how-to-transfer-your-data-from-xp-to-vista/

Jere het another article on the use of Transsfer easy to pass data or parameters (and perhaps programs) from a XP computer to a Vista computer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial138.html

    =====================================================================================================================

I hope this helps.  If you have questions or problems on the way, do not forget to post back and get help.  It is best to do things right the first time.  And even once, I highly recommend using Easy Transfer (although this is not how you setup at the moment) for the transfer to get the new computer up and running much faster and easier.  The decision is yours.

    Good luck!

  • Unable to transfer data to external hard drive from El Capital upgrade

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue as me or can help.  I have an external drive (Seagate 1 TB) that I use to transfer files to and from my Mac Air (2012 i5 4 GB).  Since the recent upgrade to El Capitan, I was able to see and access the files on the external hard drive, but not be able to transfer files from my Mac to the external drive.  I couldn't find any info on this so I was wondering if anyone can help.  Thank you!

As a guess your Seagate is formatted in NTFS. You need to check the site of Seagate to a NTFS driver compatible to El Capitan.

  • Remove the external hard drive from Time Machine list of exclusions

  • Moving files to PC files to the files of the external hard drive from Lightroom.

I have files duplicated in my external hard drive and my computer.  My computer becomes too full, so I want to delete the duplicates it.  The problem is that I have more pictures in the folder of the computer in the backup folder.  Is there a way for Lightroom copy or move simply no redundant pictures from my computer to my backup hard drive?  I tried select all and moving them, but got an error that they already exist in the backup folder.  I don't want to have to try and look at all the photos in both files to understand those who are redundant.  Help!

The photo to another drive backup can be done via your operating system (copy and paste), but this is a unique single backup; or better still by some third-party utilities that perform automatic and regular backups.

You must also make backups of your catalog file that can be done in Lightroom by activating the backup option in the catalog settings. This will cause Lightroom to make backups of your catalog file at regular intervals that you specify (daily, weekly, etc.) When you exit Lightroom, a catalog backup dialog box will appear and give you the option of where to put the backup catalog file, you must specify that this backcup goes on a different drive than the original catalog file.

  • How can I change the permission of my external hard drive from tours and write "without formatting?

My Toshiba external hard disk format was automatically replaced Windows NTFS after I had plugged on a Windows PC. Therefore, the permissions of the drive changed to 'read only' to "read and write" after that I used on my Mac. It happened once before and I remember the engineer on duty in an apple authorized service center had solved the problem without format the external hard drive. This is not an option for me now as well, but all the solutions, I looked to say online that the formatting of the disc is the first step. Help, please!

Install software such as Paragon NTFS on the Mac.

  • EA4500 - unstable connection to my external hard drive from Seagate Freeagent

    Hello

I would be very grateful if someone can help solve the problem captioned.

I bought the EA4500 for a week and all is well, except that the connection to my external hard drive 1 TB via the USB port of the EA4500 is not stable.

The router are visible at the level of the 'network' of Windows 7, as one of the "Computer".   I therefore use my memeo autobackup software to back up my data via a network connection on the external hard drive.

It works very well, however, for a limited time.  The time is a few hours.

After that happens, the device can no longer be seen at the level of the "network".  In addition, it cannot be mapped via the service 'road map' normal.  A "Not enough resources" error when I want to map the drive.

The problem can be solved temporarily after a "roboot" of the router.  But it's frustrating.

Can someone help me solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance.

What is the ip address of your router buffalo? 192.168.11.1?

Check and see if you are double natting.

Try changing the scope and dhcp IP linksys range identical to the buffalo.

  • Error reading from disk on startup, but no problem when I remove my external hard drive from Seagate. Solution?

At startup, windows does not load and, I don't see a black screen says Disk Read Error press Ctrl Alt Del to restart. Upon restart, the same problem occurs. I managed to work around this problem by unplugging all my external hard drives USB, but this problem has never happened before.

Recently, I laid out my laptop due to a faulty internal hard drive. Windows has been reformatted and a new internal hard drive has been installed. Since then, the above mentioned error occurred and I'm not too sure if those problems are linked, but my Seagate hard drive works fine until I fix it after windows has marketing. Yet once, it never happened before that my laptop has been repaired.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thank you

  • After the upgrade to El Capitan I can't write on the external hard drive to NTFS format more

I have an external hard drive formatted in NTFS, I used some Mavericks and could read and write on it without problem, after I installed El Capitan today I can't do more, not this external hard drive is read-only. The problem is that it is full of my data and I can't just format as journaled. What I can do and why it worked fine before?

You need to upgrade or replace the software you used to write on NTFS volumes and should put a copy of your data to a second drive in case one you have fails for any reason unrelated.

  • Photo date change during transfer to external hard drive from the "Photos" application

    Hello

When I try to transfer the images to my request for 'Photo' on my Macbook (OS X Yosemite) to a hard drive external, the dates and times of the images change.

I would like to transfer only some of my images on the hard drive, so I can't make time machine.

Is it possible to keep the dates and hours of original photos when copying them?

Thank you very much for your help!

Select the photos and export (menu, file == > export)-this will include the Photo with date and time metadata in EXIF/IPTC fields for use by any porgram Photo (you can check this by using Preview)-as you create new files file metadata will obviously be new but we can't change the photo metadata

  • is it possible to convert an external hard drive from FAT32 to NTFS?

I have a WD 1 TB HARD drive with FAT32 extension and I try to copy files larger than 4 GB (which does NOT support the FAT32). I've been looking for a solution and I found that the best solution is converted to NTFS.

My questions are, is there another way? If there is no other way, is there a possibility of data loss? How to convert?

Convert to NTFS will not result in data loss (of course, there is always that chance but it is not intended to do and I haven't heard any problems with how it works under Vista) If you follow the instructions below.

There is no other way if you want to copy the largest filses - only NtFS that will allow.  NTFS is better anyway because it also gives you more options seciurity and is better designed (in addition to being able to handle files of any size).

    Here is the procedure: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Convert-a-hard-disk-or-partition-to-NTFS-format.

    I hope this helps.
