  I want to put in place a "build mini-server' for our team. Since VMware Player is not taken in charge more I had to use VMware Workstation, and with some success, I put things up. But now more and more surface of trouble!

  To enable auto-start for the virtual machines, they must obviously be "shared." But it looks like, with this, the nuisance that these virtual machines cannot share folders more with the host. And also, it seems that copy and paste does not work with these "shared VMs.

  Is there a work around to get these features also works with 'shared VMs?

  It is VERY annoying and tedious to always have to these VMs to shuttle between shared and non-shared mode just to be able to transfer data or new versions of code for them!

  I downloaded the drivers needed from the Dell site and the burner will not work. The computer was again in March 2009. Not sure where the drivers should be located. I downloaded on: win\syswow64\drivers\afc.sys. I've looked everywhere and tried to find a dialog box offering the option "update drivers" for this device. Could not find a way to do except Dell and that doesn't seem to work. The 64-bit system has no 'Device Manager' that I can find. When I look at the properties of the burner, the link to "find a solution" is not highlighted.

  I install Lync above and it works very well for calls, but it does not work for copy - paste text on Instant Messaging.

  I can't use keyboard shortcuts as it says the shortcut on the right click of the characteristics.

  Guest operating system in question: Windows 2008 R2 x 64 Standard

  I can't copy or paste the invited vSphere with vCenter client host and vice versa.   I'm provisioning virtual machines from a template.  Basically, I converted a virtual machine into a template and used with the Customization Wizard to supply the new virtual machine.   I imported an unattend.xml file in the Customization Wizard.   VMware tools is installed.

  I googled and found that the inability to copy and paste inside the guest OS is a default behavior for 4.1.  So I followed the work and edited the file/etc/vmware/config with the following two lines and restarted the virtual machines.

  insulation. Tools.Copy.Disable = "false"

  insulation. Tools.Paste.Disable = "false"

  No chance!

  Then, I created a new virtual machine from scratch and attached the VMDK from the former VM.  Now I can copy and paste without problem.  So, it seems that the customization process is the culprit.   I can't create virtual machines from scratch.  How can I use my template to provision VMs without the problem of copy/paste?

  A restart of the host is not required, it is the virtual machine that needs to restart.

  What you need to do is to power off the virtual machine and then put the new one. Not just restart the guest operating system.

  If this does not work, thanks for posting the vmware.log file of the virtual machine file.

• Updates will not work on Vista

  I am running Vista Home Premium and I can't run updates. Anytime I they download and install. After the reboot, they go through the Configuration 1, 2 and 3. At the end of 3 it is said complete and the system stops and restarts and goes back through the new installation. Shut up just. I left for hours and keeps it just loops. Any ideas?

  Restore point:

  Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

  Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

  Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

  If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:

  As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.

  As your falls into the above category: download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.

  Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

• My copy / paste does not work properly

  Lately when I try to copy / paste my documents to my email address or my writing site, I get the message that there was a mistake and did a restart of the computer.  I can copy fine, but when I paste I get the error message.  It is very annoying, because I am a writer and have to be able to copy my articles from my documents and paste to my site window in writing.  Nobody knows why I'm suddenly not able to do it, and can help you please?  No articles = no money...

  We have recently upgraded to the latest version and it's the first tiime we use Smartview. None of our users can use Excel copy / paste function between worksheets in a file or files. The function only works in an active worksheet. What is the fix here?

  Turn off Transition formula evaluation and transition formula options.

  In Office 2003:
  1. tap on tools of-> Options...
  2. Select the Transition tab
  3 deselect the following entries:
  -The transition formula evaluation
  -Seizure of the formulas of transition
  4. click on OK
  5. repeat the above steps for each worksheet in the workbook, selecting each in turn and repeating steps 1 through 4.

  In Office 2007:
  1. tap on the Office button
  2. click on Excel Options
  3. Select Advanced (left) Options
  4. in the right pane, scroll down to the bottom
  5. under Lotus dethrone the compatibility settings, disable the option:
  -The transition formula evaluation
  -Seizure of the formulas of transition
  6. Select the following worksheet in the menu drop-down
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all the worksheets have been processed
  8. click on OK.

  With earlier versions, windows vista run until you install the GFX drivers provided by microsoft.
  After the microsoft drivers (or nvidia), you have a 'blue screen of death '.

  But now, with PRE - RC1, this driver are integrated with vista. The result? you crash after installation of the Poles, you can not even start in vga (safe mode) mode.

  So my $2800 specifications can go in the trash? I hope toshiba will quickly correct this problem before the RTM of vista... It's not bad, I don't know what material support to do, there are many versions of vista, and I don't know why this problem is not solved! Yes, you can say "this is not the final version of vista", ok, but we are on RC1 stage and is not usable at all! I think its time to fix it and don't wait until the last second!

• The mouse driver and Touchpad Driver for Dell Studio laptop will not work with Vista

  I just bought a Dell Studio laptop at new years 2009 with the Vista platform.   I had nagging problems with the mouse driver and the touchpad pointer that were completely related software.  These questions were returning back over the months and months.   I've owned about 10 PCs since 1989 and I've never had a bad result like this.   My wife and I have lost 20 to 30 hours of our time looking after him.   This could have the Vista operating platform?   I suffered so much that I made my decision to seriously consider the range of Apple computers.   At this point, I lay the responsibility for the drivers who did not also work on Microsoft and Dell.  20 - 30 hours can go a long way in learning the OS from Apple.    I am a professional project management and professional engineer and can't believe that something as basic as the mouse driver and the driver of the Touchpad was a goner at the launch of the computer screwup.   I guess that the validation of test have been ignored.  I have never been madder with any computer I've owned.  I learned a lesson from this.   Do not trust Dell or Microsoft in the manufacture of new products.  As far as I know Apple users don't get treated this way.

  Sorry, but I really cannot speculate more what happens - or go - with your computer without being able to see the machine. It's the first time, you mentioned a bluetooth mouse and that you have installed the drivers three times. Certainly a bad image would not apply in this case. There are probably other things that pass only someone actually looking at the machine would be able to discern.

  However, since this is a new laptop and you are unhappy with it, return it under warranty and buy something else. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to help you. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  I'm used to be able to copy and paste from Windows 7 (VMWare) to/from Mac OS X Lion. Now, I can not sure when it started - maybe when I upgraded to 4.1.2? Does anyone else have this problem?
