copy the file to the desktop

How can I copy a file on the desktop? How to find the path for the desktop users (multi-language)? is there a special variable like %UserProfile%?

For work stations, location use the Windows API SHGetKnownFolderPath or SHGetFolderPath as described in this thread. The names of the paths you can get (as office, AppData, My Documents etc are listed here.)

After a recent power outage, my system has restarted with a weird and very common Windows problems range. The system boots fine, all my personal files/folders/apps are intact, have suddenly stopped almost all functions of applications, but many crucial functions of the Windows kernel. Everything seems to point to several Windows Services are unable to start (administrative tools on the start menu). I am running Win XP SP3 and that he was going to upgrade to Windows 7, but I wanted to backup everything in advance. As I have 29 000 hours on my C: drive and a lot of time invested in my system, files, and applications, I am extremely reluctant to risk losing my files and applications by performing any type of reinstalling Windows. Strangely, begin to almost all my apps and all my files are accessible for the most part, but I've lost the ability to drag and drop files, folders or items in a list within the applications COMPLETELY. I can't copy or paste anything, can't move the desktop icons (although I can create new files and folders). So at the moment I can't save anything or even a single file transfer to a hard drive on another storage medium. Immediate reaction: try safe mode and try the system restore safe mode has the same problems (likely due to the large number of system services that inexplicably refuses to start) and the system restore says an error window saying "system restore is not able to protect your computer at this time. try restoring the system running and restart again", which of course NEVER changes. It's the equivalent of getting a tire on your car in the middle of nowhere to find the spare tire flat and the missing Jack. I have used to be fanatical about the definition of the regular restore points, but now can not access them. I have backups of most of my personal files, but over years have lost most of the original installation CD for many of my applications (there are over 100 applications on my system) and I don't want to lose the file associations and architecture of directory tree that it took my so long to implement. I started with Win XP media center edition of first (circa 2004 or almost) and have migrated twice more of 3 hard disks and 2 computers. All this time (5 years of daily use), I have NEVER known so many malfunctions for as many Windows basic and vital functions at the same time. I tried a lot of 3rd party "windows fix - it / registry repair" apps, all have no effect. Everything I can speculate is there was some serious damage to the registry and have no idea how/why so many Services refuse to start. In MMC, more than half of the services actually start and run, the rest all give the error message "the service or dependencies is not start (error 1068).» In addition, very oddly, no. APPS or windows appear in the toolbar AT ALL, but the Quick Launch toolbar works very well, just like the tray button and start tasks (?! )!). If I reduce a window, it "disappears" (Nothing on the task bar), but I can restore it using the alt - tab keyboard shortcut to switch apps, so all applications/windows appear on the list of the Task Manager. A few apps is paralyzed bad, as the player windows media, itunes, etc. (I guess because the service windows audio can not not start), some won't start at all, but 90% of them work fine, except to try to copy or back up all files. I can create new files, however. I'm desperate to find a solution to repair XP3 Win WITHOUT losing my installed applications and files, before I try and switch to WIndows 7. Any help/suggestions/links/advice would be much appreciated. I'm an experienced user, but I've never met so many malfunctions based on the OS at a time. I, however, very painfully learned (years before that my system so complex) it's been almost a re-installation of Windows guarantees to lose my installed apps and files, the directory tree architecture associations.

    Help, please!

I'll be honest with you - your message is so difficult to read that I don't bother to go through all that. Next time consider using white space, ball or points numbered, etc. to make your message more readable. I stopped reading after your first sentence and only scanned the rest quickly. I do not mean to hurt your feelings; just trying to help you get targeted answers you need for the future.

The blackout has corrupted your Windows installation. Back up your data now. Since you have problems so much, it would be probably best is to remove the hard drive, put it in a USB drive enclosure and attach it to another computer to copy the data OR start the target with Linux Livecd such as Knoppix system and copy the data to an external hard drive. IOW, do not use the damaged windows to try to get your data.

You can try a repair that will leave your programs and facility data intact, but with this widespread bribery, it is unlikely to work. However, it takes only a few minutes and is so worth a try. If the repair facility does not work there is nothing to do, but a clean install. And Yes, it will mean that over again.

Consider buying a UPS to help prevent future damage by power outages. For a single computer, you should look for one in the area of $60 to 80. A more expensive UPS is not necessary. Another good disaster recovery strategy is to buy an external hard drive and Acronis True Image. You can image your system (and can make an incremental backup image so that your image is still current). You can apply your image and be back running that you were in relatively few minutes after a hard drive or Windows to fail.

What is the price of media card (say 1 GB).

on your device, you have internal memory (aka the device memory) and you have a microSD (aka memory support).
memory support can be seen by your PC using USB mass storage (which you can do on the first Blackberry).
the device memory can not be seen like that. The Roxio Media Manager can do that, as well as a module of the Desktop Manager 4.7 (does not work on 4.6 and earlier).

a Sandisk 4 GB media card costs cheaper 4USD on Amazon.

Yes it is possible. You can search for resources on the top of this page, in the "DEVELOPERS" link If you have any questions about this you can post them on the set of 'Java development' on this forum.

I have some important files on my desktop and the fear that one of my employees has copied that data on its USB, is it possible to check if there was such a transfer, such as a history of copy, or something?

In my view, the above question sums up all, I'm not that computer savvy, so please give detail instructions, and if there is way to secure these files are copied or sent by electronic mail, please let me know, if I can avoid these problems in the future. Thank you.

You may not know a posteriori if this transfer took place. To prevent it in the future, lock your device by pressing the Windows key + L before you leave your office and keep your secret password.

  • Satellite A100: some files are missing when copying DVD on the desktop

    Hello

Suppose I have 1000 files on a DVD.
I drag all these files in the desktop, all of a sudden I see this is 920 files.
    If some files are missing.

    What this may be?
There are no errors. I don't think that something is wrong.
I initially thought maybe hidden files are counted in the DVD, but not on the desktop?
    Maybe something on the desktop?

Anyone have any ideas? I tried to put it on 'To see the hidden files' - it's a Toshiba A100.

I just ran a scan antivirus on this file and it let's say 1500 files analyzed.
Haha. Antivirus but probably scanned all etc. desktop.ini and Thumbs.db.
.. And maybe Windows Vista now have those when you want to display the number of files?

  • Copy the file from the desktop to the filesystem (not datastore) hosts?

    Hey all,.

I need to download a custom file system authentication on /etc/pam.d/system-auth on 16 hosts.  I did a copy master file and stored on a local workstation.

I expected to come up with a PowerCLI script to help with this.

I found the Copy-Datastoreitem CMDlet to copy the files to the data store.  But technically, /etc/pam.d is the local file system of ESXi, not the host data store.

Anyone have any ideas on how to do this with PowerCLI (or same ESX CLI also)?

    Thank you

  • The behavior of copy (.png files) screen when using TextEdit and printing

I have long used the method to copy and paste texts and/or pictures to TextEdit and print files .rtf or .rtfd below:

I use the command-control-shift-4 and the cursor to select things and paste into TextEdit.

That stopped working in the Sierra.  I tried several methods (PDF format conversion, fall in Pages and Numbers, for example), but nothing worked: the Canon PIXMA MX922 printed on a white sheet and left the box of small characters with text "filter impossible."

There is no new printer driver on the Canon site; However, there is a new driver IJ Scan Utility and I downloaded it already after that installation of Sierra and the scanner works fine, as also directly print something (e.g. on the Web).

Now, after several days of testing and I was wondering, I tried this yesterday:

Instead of the above command, I used (which I do when I want to save it to the desktop) command + shift + 4.  I copied the file .png from office, dropped in the TextEdit, printed, and... IT WORKED.

Copy and leaving fall directly in the TextEdit and printing, is so not working, but let fall the same screenshot on the desktop and copy and paste into TextEdit and it print shops.

I noticed several other annoying problems to Sierra, some I've reported here (communities), some didn't.  Business-as-usual: first version of an upgrade is full of bugs, which 'disappear' in future versions, until a new update is made available, the loop continues, continues, and...

    He works here.

  • during an update lots of my profile folder has been put in a folder on the desktop marked the old data. How to restore this data file

During a bet to update, automatic update of windows has started and some how much my profile data has been removed and stored in a file on the desktop. There is a simple and easy way to restore this folder from the current firefox?

You can use the contents of the Old Firefox Data folder to "roll back" the refresh, but this involves several steps. It's probably even faster than the recovery of individual files and load those into your new profile.

Check in the folder 'Old data Firefox' update adds a folder with a random semi name on your desktop. If there is only one, that probably has your old settings and Add-ons. If there is more than one, you'll want to work with one who has been updated recently.

Once you have identified the profile folder, that you want to restore, here is my "old profile resurrection suggested procedure:

    Overview

Here are the steps described in more detail below:

    1. Create a new Firefox profile
    2. Delete all of this profile folder
    3. Copy in all of the old profile folder

Create a new profile for Firefox (Windows)

Exit Firefox completely and start up in the Profile Manager by pasting the following in the Windows search, or the Run dialog box by pressing ENTER:

    firefox.exe -P

Note: any time want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog box.

Click on the button create a profile, give it a name like OldSettings and skip the option to change the location of the folder. Select the new profile from the dialog box, and then start Firefox.

Open the new profile folder in Windows Explorer

Firefox in the new profile should look like a new installation of the plant. Open the troubleshooting information page by using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • Menu help > troubleshooting information
    • type or paste everything: in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table, click on the view file"" button. Firefox will launch your new profile folder in Windows Explorer.

This folder open, switch back to Firefox and get out by using either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • (menu bar) File > Exit

Firefox is closed, the profile folder must be front and Center, or you can activate it by using the taskbar.

Copy old data instead of new

In this new profile folder you just popped open - NOT the one on your desktop - select all content (you can use Ctrl + a) and delete (you can press Delete on the keyboard).

Leave this window open, open or switch to your folder of old data of Firefox. Consult your old profile folder. At this level, you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.

Select all (Ctrl + a) and copy (or right-click > copy or Ctrl + c).

Switch to the empty profile folder in another window and paste (or right-click > paste or Ctrl + v). This may take a few minutes because some files are large.

    Launch Firefox

Firefox should start in this 'new' profile with the old resurrected profile data. Success?

Hi Ken, Firefox will not start now, complaining that it cannot find its profile, or it starts up, but data are incomplete?

Here is a procedure to return to your prior to refresh the data. It takes 5 minutes, but it's probably faster than the recovery of individual data files and those in a new profile from loading.

  • Why can't I drag a file from the desktop to the folder of bookmarks?

I am trying to sort my bookmark folders in El Capitan, so I drag the folder on the bookmarks file (after the edition of bookmarks in Safari) on the desktop, open it on the desktop and the sort.  When I try to drag it to the folder of bookmarks in Safari, the file returns to the desktop.  I tried using the side bar and the window, using option, command, control, fn and SHIFT while dragging, and nothing works.  When I output folder, it returns to the desktop.  To work around, I create a new folder in bookmarks, rename it, and then copy the bookmarks to the new folder.  Looks like I used to be able to just drag the folder to the Favorites folder.

All solutions?  I have something on or off prevents him record a fall in place?

When you drag a folder of bookmarks in Safari Bookmarks.plist location on your desktop, folder and its content is converted to different formats that Safari has no way to convert in the original structure of Bookmarks.plist.

  • Shortcut on the desktop opens the wrong file

    Hey guys, unusual problem.

I have two files, then we'll call it A and B.
The folder is located on a shared network drive and I have a shortcut on the desktop to him.
File B is that an outdated copy of the file a. file B is on my office only, not on the shared drive.
Somehow, the folder was lost. I can't explain this, so let's focus on what happened after having lost the file has.
Without a file open, the shortcut on the desktop a file from A now opens file B.
How? I know that you can manually change the path of the shortcut. It is possible that the shortcut automatically changed somehow, because of file B either has a copy of the file? That another person to access the computer outside of myself and I find it doubtful that she would know how to change the path of a shortcut.
    I appreciate any idea.
It is possible that the shortcut automatically changed somehow, because of file B either has a copy of the file?

I found that this will change if the file has and B files have the same name. Here's a test case, I just ran.

    I created a text document, Memo.txt.

I placed a copy of the Memo.txt to a folder on the D: drive. In this file, I typed, "I'm on D:.

I placed another copy of Memo.txt to a folder on the encrypted drive N:. In this file, I typed, "I'm on N:.

I created a shortcut to the Memo.txt about N: by double-clicking on the file and choose "create shortcut". I cut and pasted this shortcut to remove it from the folder on N: and place it in the folder on D:. Now, the shortcut of N: was now in the same folder as the Memo.txt on d: I looked at the properties of the shortcut to make sure that the target field still contained the path to the folder on N:. He did.

With n: unlocked and therefore accessible. If I double-click the shortcut, and he opened the Memo.txt on n. I know because the text file that displays said, "I'm on N:. I then closed the encrypted drive N: by restarting the computer. This fact: is not accessible. I double-clicked the same shortcut, and to instead open the Memo.txt on N:, he opened the Memo.txt on D:. I know because the text file that appears has said, "I'm on D:. In addition, I looked again on the shortcut properties and the contained target field now the path to the folder on D:. In other words, he had been replaced by Windows.

I have Windows Pro 8.1. I know that in Windows XP, if the target of the shortcut has been moved, Windows would make an attempt to find the new location of the target. I suspect it's still done in Windows 8. And there not much to look at from a file with the same name as the target is located in the same directory as the shortcut. In this case, the difference is that instead of the target being moved, it was simply is no longer available because the drive is on, was no longer accessible.
