Copying files from a web server to the VMFS data store

Hi everyone I have a little trouble working it.

I say a file on a Web server http://webserver/important.txt and I want to copy this file in a local data store.  I am able to copy the file from the Web server to the server I'm running PowerCLI, and then to the data store, but I can't work on how to copy directly.

Any ideas?

As far as I know, the Copy-DatastoreItem cannot handle this. The cmdlet requires a path to the Item parameter.

You will need to first create a local file and then copy in the data store.

  • VM shows this in the NFS data store after passed to the vmfs data store

    Hello

    (1) create a virtual machine using NFS datastore

    (2) had created a few snapshots

    (3) to migrate this virtual machine from the data to the local VMfs store

    (4) all the files are moved to the defined vmfs datastore

    (5) storage > > nfs_datastore > > objects > > VM > > vm is present

    (6) but when did change the setting of this VM, vm is present on the data store local vmfs

The .vmsn file contains binary data text, so you better not change it manually. The purpose of these files is to be able to return to his instant partner. Depending on the configuration of virtual machines in time you created the snapshot, the virtual machine may require access to the old data store to access the files and folders in there when you return to this snapshot.

  • Size = size of the VMFS data store VMDK?

Is it possible to create a single vmdk equal to the size of a vmfs data store he created in or is it a load element used by vCenter/ESXi.

I am using vSphere 4 and VMFS data warehouses are in format VMFS 3.33.

You can't if it is the main drive of a virtual machine and the virtual machine configuration files etc receive on the same data store as the virtual machine directly to the output that the bat will need extra space for a brief amount. For a data reader, this should be possible since there should not be any files will use the space.

  • promotion of iSCSI LUN with the VMFS data store

    Hello

I moved an iSCSI on the website of DR SAN and fact volume so that it was accessible to the ESX host on the site of DR based on the IP address and made the new analysis of the adapter for iSCSI Software in the VI Client on the two hosts on the DR site and he discovered the LUN.

I don't want to go to the Configuration, storage and add storage as this reformatted the volume and it has a VMware Server already on it running happily on the main site.

How can I add the volume as a VMFS data store available on the two hosts as he is picked up automatically?

    Thank you

    Paul

I guess it was a VMFS volume that was used by the ESX environment on main site you, Yes? If you have moved the LUN, i.e. the ESX hosts in the main site no longer have access so that the ESX host at the DR site do not have access, you will need to define EnableResignature = 1 under Advanced settings, LVM

You restart the analysis for storage and you should access your VMFS volume. You will need to register your virtual machines with the new host.

When complete set EnableResignature = 0

Now, before I get off, I will say that I am sure that the host I'm doing this on IS NOT on the HCL.

(why I'm running old hardware?-c' is a community organization that I volunteer for which relies on hardware dontated)

    However, please read on.

Updated an IBM x 3500 and a x 3650 (same generation - they are basically Tower and rack mount versions of the same kit) to esxi 5.1 to 5.5.

Local storage - IBM Serveraid (aacraid)

I was a bit confused as the controllers of disk and LUN show always also visible (just no VMFS didn't recognize any time how I rescan).

(normally the LUNS do not appear due to a driver does not)

I found that I was able to get future LUNS by practice

    'Add a storage '.

    "Disk/LUN.

(30-60 seconds then shows the LUNS)

    1.png

It shows the drive bays, I click Next and select "mount disc and keep the signature '...

The lun then comes fine and everything works.

However rebooting it gets lost again and I have to repeat the process to get the VMFS volumes to come back.

Either you have to will the volumes - or clean all paths dead in your esx.conf

  • Corruption in the VMFS data store

    Hi all

I have a data store VMFS that has a directory that ESX doesn't happen to delete, even if it tries every 2 minutes.  The contents of the directory, it looks like something related to the directory index is damaged.  The directory looks like this:

    # ls-l 1020

    Total 64

    -rw - 1 root root 353 current.png July 2, 2010

    ?----

    ? ?    ?      ?            ? ??? & lt;? g? fΟ? I have?

    ?----

    ? ?    ?      ?            ? ??????? hA+????????? KJ? \w#?s????????????

    ?----

    ? ?    ?      ?            ? IHDR

I can't delete all files with the?' s. I searched and could not find you check all sound tracks on a tool VMFS file system.  Some positions mentioned vmkfstools - R, but that option appear in my version (ESX 4).

Can any thoughts on how I fix?

    Thank you

    Jason

    Hello Jason,

There is no fsck for vmfs. There is a 3rd third party tool which could for this in the future, but I wouldn't trust it now. See: http://planetvm.net/blog/?p=1592

The best thing to do is get all your VMS out of this LUN, destroy the entirety of the LUN and recreate.

Of course the most important is first of all to know what happened with your vmfs storage because it is very suspicious...

I have write access) - OS Win 7 x 64 on laptop - disabled Avast, no difference - other PC (XP, Vista, Win7) can copy the same file easily - reproducible with other files (test file executable is 500 MB and 400 M movie file)-laptop connects to the internet download fine, of a file of 500 M finish at reasonable speeds - copy start , stalls and then she complains about the network connection disappeared. A simultaneous ping to the server shows that it is not correct. The connection never drops. This is reproducible with 100bT wired and Wireless-N. Don't know what there is to say about it. It seems that there is a configuration problem somewhere I hope it can be fixed because otherwise this laptop is going to come back. Thanks, Sander PS the paint job on these laptops is terrible. Gloss black? All - ALL - print digital watch. The laptop has 2 minutes old and already he looked mean. Not the best choice Lenovo. My old T61 seems better

I uninstalled K9 web protection and now things work again. Very very slow for an adapter n, but at least it ends. I notified K9 on the problem.

  • The VM cannot copy files from a network share on the host

I get the error "unable to copy xyz123: cannot read from the source file or disk.» When you try to copy a file to a shared folder.

    • The shared folder is located on the machine called VM-SERVER, which runs in Workstation 6.0.4. The folder is shared with everyone having full control. Security settings say that DOMAIN\Domain users also have complete control.

    • Any user who connects to any guest VM on VM-SERVER, which is the host of all the VMS in the Organization, can not access the file for copying, although registration to the directory is there (although slow to come). If the same user connects to any other computer on the network, any computer of VM-no-prompt, then he can access the files on the share on VM-SERVER with no problems.

    • VM' are the guest all configured with Bridged networking like they serve other users on the network. I disable the VMWare adapters. I insert the DisableDos key with a value of 1 as indicated by the FAQ, I restart the VM host operating system and the virtual computer guests.

    • VM-SERVER running Windows Server 2003 R2 x 64. It has 2 1 TB SATA drives, and the action in question is physically located on the D: drive.

    • The VM guest OS are XP Sp3, Vista Sp1, Windows Server 2003 R2 x 32 Business.

    • None of these comments VM are able to access the contents of the files on the share on VM-SERVER.

    • All computer virtual guests are able to access shares located on another server, the primary domain controller of the network that is running Windows Server 2003 R2 x 32.

Accordingly, I'm worried because the concept of the virtual computer for critical business was my decision and up to the exception of this scenario (and a recently resolved USB printing problem) it went well. Unfortunately even a mess can stop production.

Note that I have read the FAQ and tried the suggestions that seemed to apply.  I also looked in the forums and haven't seen a specific question/answer.  If there is an answer out there and you read this point please make me, orperhaps you have another suggestion?  I am open to all theories and possible solutions.

  • Increase to "enlarge" the VMFS data store

    Hello

I'm under Esxi 4.1 with vCenter servers. At the storageside, we have an array disk Equallogic iSCSI.

In this box we have 4 MON, on one of the LUNS we run out of free space, I can increase the LUN to increase it on the side of VMware and Equallogic?

I know by until it was not recommended, but do not know how it is now with vSphere 4. Any suggestions?

    THX

extend is possible but then it would be better to create a new LUN, and then balance your IO request and not a large unit number logic.

  • How to create LUNS target the same data store?

In vnx5100, we created two partitions (MON) to be shared separately with 2 VM machines for clustering

The question here is, that I have assigned the size of the LUN to a new data storage. And when I created ROW for a virtual machine, I had to choose the target LUN, but I wasn't able to see the unit number logic I'm looking for (the one that I have allocated for the storage of data, I created).

    The question here is:

Why the logic unit number assigned to the storage is not displayed in the list?

Do we need to create a LUN for the data store and a separate LUN target in Vsphere with the same size of the LUN in VNX?

What is the target LUN in VMware (vsphere client)?

    Kind regards

To a RDM and VMFS data store, you must create/submit two LUNS for ESXi hosts. What is stored on the VMFS data store is only the RDM mapping file (this will be created at the time wherever you add the raw LUN to a virtual machine), who shows up with the size of the RDM LUN, but requires no available disk space on the data (as a few bytes) store.

  • Cannot start web server on the executable file

    Hello

We have a problem with a Web server - we cannot get to initialize the help of nodes of property or the ini on a compiled executable file.

As part of our application, we are starting the Web server to publish a status page to be read remotely. This works very well when we are running in the development environment and also when we run an executable a PC with installed development environment, however it will not boot on a PC with just the runtime installed.

I have attached some of the code that functionally does exactly the same thing in our main application. I used this as my Tester code and built in an exe while trying a lot of different things to fix.

    When executing:

    • The code will sit in the while loop until I press stop.
    • Web server: Active Server = FALSE
    • Out error = ERROR No.

In the full application the while loop waits a few seconds before throw an error if the server is not started. In this example, I can let the loop running for awhile without leave. Normally, the boot time is<50ms when="">

It's the ini file to the executable file:

    [WebTest]
    server.app.propertiesEnabled = True
    Server.OLE.Enabled = True
    server.tcp.serviceName = "My Server computer/VI"
    server.vi.propertiesEnabled = True
    WebServer.Enabled = True
    WebServer.TcpAccess = "' + * '"
    WebServer.ViAccess = "' + * '"
    DebugServerEnabled = False
    DebugServerWaitOnLaunch = False

And it is the Web server configuration file:

    ErrorLog "$LVSERVER_ROOT/logs/error.log".
    LogLevel 3
    The default server name
    DocumentRoot "$LVSERVER_ROOT /... /.. '. "/ www".
    Listen 8000
    ThreadLimit 10
    TypesConfig "$LVSERVER_ROOT/mime.types»
    DirectoryIndex index.html
    LoadModulePath "$LVSERVER_ROOT/modules '" $LVSERVER_ROOT/LVModules "" $LVSERVER_ROOT /... ".
    LoadModule LVAuth lvauthmodule
    LoadModule LVSnapshot lvsnapshotmodule
    LoadModule LVRFP lvrfpmodule
    LoadModule dir libdirModule
    LoadModule copy libcopyModule

    AddHandler LVAuthHandler
    AddHandler LVSnapshotHandler .snap
    AddHandler LVRFPHandler

    AddHandler dirHandler
    AddHandler copyHandler

    "CustomLog"$LVSERVER_ROOT/logs/access.log"'%%u %t \"%r\ hour' % > s %b.
    KeepAlive on
    KeepAliveTimeout 60
    Timeout 60

As can side note, anyone tell me where the $LVSERVER_ROOT variable is configured?

    I tried the things:

    • Copy a new default configuration file before the entry into force
    • Writing a predefined file (encoded) before initializing config
    • Definition to root before initializing directory (it actually generates an error because the server is not active...)
    • Set WebServer.Active = TRUE several times inside the while loop
    • Toggle the web server in the ini file

    System:

    • LabVIEW 2010
    • PC with Windows 7 running

Thanks for any help, because it makes me crazy slow!

    Ben

Hi Marco, thanks for the reply.

I have this guide was reviewed previously and had done all that he but a small section who gave me a hint of something to try and I have solved my problem, so thank you!

If anyone is interested, here's the problem:

The directive DocumentRoot folder in the config must exist or the Web server cannot be started. So basically, make sure that the file points to a folder that exists!

This leaves two small annoying problems if - you can't see if the file exists (and then create it) before starting the Web server, because you can not query the path to the folder without the Web server running.

    AND

You can't really define the configuration programmatically file as parameters from the file are responsible for execution, not on the start Web server.

The result of this is that the config file and the folder root document should be created (and corresponding of course...) when the executable is built / installed on the system. Not a massive headache, but it means do not forget to put things in the build specification and do not rely on software to do the job at startup

  • Copy files from the local PC folder to the VM folder

I would like to copy files from my local PC file to a Dtx200 (which is the data store for my data center)

    I used the following commands:

$SourceBuild_ISO = 'E:\fileslist\Image\image1.jpg' #folder on my local PC where I have my vsphereClient installed

    Copy-DatastoreItem-point $SourceBuild_ISO -SAN2:\BHM\BHM_ISO_IMAGE Destination-Force

where SAN2 is my data storage for my VM

the error I get is can not find the drive named SAN2

However if I use the following commands

Get-data-server store < my VM server IP > -name "SAN2"

    I get

    Name FreeSpaceMB CapacityMB
    ----                               -----------      ----------
    3938452 4766208 SAN2

    now I use

    $datastorename

    = Get-data-server < my VM server IP > store -Nom "SAN2" | New-DataStoreDrive-name datastorename

    Copy-DatastoreItem-point

    $SourceBuild_ISO -Destination datastorename:\BHM\BHM_ISO_IMAGE-Force

This method works. (New-DataStoreDrive performing a mapping to the real data SAN2 store)

However, New-DatastoreDrive is an alias for a command (for New-PSDrive) sometimes gives the error that New-DataStoreDrive is not a valid cmdlet and sometimes it works well

If I want a copy of the files in my local PC file to a Dtx200 (which is the data store for my data center)

use the following commands directly? Why do I need to map a drive to the data store?

$SourceBuild_ISO = 'E:\fileslist\Image\image1.jpg' #folder on my local PC where I have my vsphereClient installed

    Copy-DatastoreItem-point $SourceBuild_ISO -SAN2:\BHM\BHM_ISO_IMAGE Destination-Force

where SAN2 is my data storage for my VM

    No explanation? Suggestions?

The path to your data store that you must supply the parameter - Destination must begin with a drive of psprovider.

    Try it like this

    New-PSDrive-location (Get-Datastore SAN2) - ds name - PSProvider VimDatastore-Root ' '

    Copy-DatastoreItem-point $SourceBuild_ISO-Destination ds:\BHM\BHM_ISO_IMAGE-Force

You can also use the readers of vmstore or vmstores.

These 2 are there automatically after a Connect-VIServer.

Given these discs start higher up in the hierarchy of vSphere, you will need to fit the destination path.

  • copy files from my C drive to my external drive error E 0x800718ac3: the volume is dirty?

Original title: can anyone help with this problem error 0x800718ac3: the volume is dirty?

I am trying to copy files from my C drive to my external drive E using the operation drag and drop method. That's what happens "error 0x800718ac3: the volume is dirty" can you help me?

    Hello

    1. What is the full error message?

    2. what operating system is installed on the computer?

3 did you changes to the computer before the show?

    4. What are the names of files and the exact location of the files you are trying to copy?

Method 1:   Format the external drive of E and see if that helps.

Note: Format deletes the data on the disk. Be sure to back up data before the format.

Method 2: You can check the external E drive to find errors.

Important: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost

  • Windows 7 and I have a batch file to copy files from 1 computer to another. It works fine alone, but when I put it to run in the Task Scheduler it shows it ends successfully, but nothing is happening

I am running Windows 7 and I have a batch file to copy files from 1 computer to another.  It works fine alone, but when I put it to run in the Task Scheduler it shows it ends successfully, but nothing is happening.  None of the files are copied, and the control box does not appear.  Any ideas?

Run a batch file in Task Scheduler

    Hello ITGIRL17,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

Configure your task under your administrator account.
Then go to the folder with the batch file and ADD on control for the folder administrator permissions and each of the files in batches.
If the batch files write data, then the target for the task should ALSO have all explicit permissions.
Now try to run the Task Scheduler task.

Also check the information from the following link and look specifically at Brian Vandemark Sommaire steps on 2 September.
    http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/en/winservermanager/thread/d47d116e-10b9-44f0-9a30-7406c86c2fbe

I hope that this information will help resolve your batch file does not problem.
