Costs on the sale of old computers

If you are selling a used computer and remove the hard drive and do not provide the disks provided with the system operating systems would you be legally bound to take over the costs of the case sticker?

No, you're not legally required to remove the COA sticker. In fact, you should make sure the COA sticker rest on the case, in my opinion. Otherwise, you're doing a disservice to the person buying the PC. For example, if a person buys a used PC which came with a license to run XP but without a hard drive, the person always has the option to purchase and installation of a hard drive and get the correct installation media and installing Windows XP without having to pay for another license.

You can legally it delete? I do not know. I'm not a lawyer. :-)

I recently purchased 3 computers with OS 8.1 Windows and MS Office 365 to replace my computers in 2005, which took place from the XP operating system.  My old computer still works well, but they are not all the material was updated to use the Windows 8 operating system.  So I want to disconnect them from the internet and use it only for writing files and financial records.  I have the original CD until Service Pack 3 installation. So I want to re - install the operating system to get rid of old programs I need is no longer.  My question is how to do it of updates from Microsoft, I need to re - install for OS the most reliable and effective, in my opinion, there are several updates only slow down the operating system and are not necessary if the machine is not connected to the Internet?  Your contribution to this issue would be appreciated thanks.

Installation of updates does not cause all more or less the programs to run. Only, it updates the logic that a running program would use if he had ever run.  It is never good to ignore updates, even those that you may not think are associated with online components, because the system uses still common components for video rendering, audio, PDF, print, graphic display and processing files of... this. Updates are also cumulative and build with each other. Any particular update is assuming that all previous ones have been applied. Having gaps in these can be an attack vector important feat. As much as you are using Windows XP, I recommend to get fully updated running a good antivirus that has a subscription of active update (if required for updates) and using a non administrator account for daily use. In this way any attack that never happens to compromise your profile can take administrative measures.

  • I need basic instructions on getting photos off the coast of old computers.

Hello.  My 2009 and 2010 Macbook Pros are about to quit smoking for good.  I need to delete all photos and videos of them.  Maybe one or two documents.  I'm not a person type tech, but smart enough to do with directions.  I know I need an external hard drive, but how big?  Also, should I have any special type of power cord to connect the two (computer & HD)?  Someone also told me to save my photos in an online store.  I have no idea how to do this.  I have one Capsule temporal, but last used in 2011.  Only, I could get a computer to even recognize him now.  I guess this is too old for the same disorder with?  I appreciate any help I can get.

Regarding the size of the drive, it depends on how much movies and photos.  Pass the Apple in the upper left corner then about this Mac > more then click on the little tab at the top for storage and it should give you a breakdown.

2011 is nothing. The time Capsule should work. I have 15 years, discs that work.  I'm not really familiar with time Capsules.  If you end up buying a regular external hard drive, it should come with any string you need. It will probably be a standard USB cord.

  • Work on the kinks with old computers

    Hello
I know this is a Forum for Windows Vista, but I have a small question.

How can I tell if my graphics card or the hard drive stops working correctly?

I mixed AOE when a blue screen comes on and say "error n4disp", and then restart the computer. She did a few times. Now, the computer stopped working all together. He struggles to turn on, but does not illuminate. I can't understand the problem. Anyone got some suggestions on how to get this fix before going to fix anyone!

    Hello Summerbreeze, welcome.

The manufacturer of the hard drive will be able to provide you with self-diagnostic tools. You can actually find some freeware tools online, like UBCD, which will allow you to start in various envoirnments based on linux.
I have one who contacted the manufacturer of the drive is and ask for help on this issue.
I advise to start in Safe Mode with networking and download the last update of nVidia graphics card (if you are able to). Also try to back up data that you have on the machine, if you are able to start safe mode. Failing hard drives have a life, as soon as they come out, it's very difficult and expensive to recover data from the disk.
I would NOT recommend running the disk check. If the player has mechanical problems, check the disc will probably work too hard drive and can cause corruption of data or hardware failure.
In general, here are some symptoms of a failing hard drive:
1 time of start and stop
    2. audible "clicking on" sounds of the reader
    3. delays in access to applications, files and folders
    4. error (such as the failure of the controller) in the event log events
    5. If your BIOS detects the S.M.A.R.T failure
Just as an info also, bluescreens are often caused by problems of display driver. Maybe it's not a linked in any way with your hardware. No real way to tell right now, until we can run a diagnostic on the hardware, of course.
    Hope this helps,
    Thank you!

  • If someone is selling his company and that the sale includes the company's computers, are legally transferable software licenses?

    Software license transfer?

If someone is selling his company and that the sale includes the company's computers, are legally transferable software licenses?

It depends on the license - all software has its own license.

    Regarding the license of Windows:

    Selling used Windows

    (A) If you have Windows OEM and you don't the have not installed you can sell. If you have installed it you can sell it only with the computer on which it was installed.

    (B) If you have the retail version, you can sell but to follow the EULA says:

    18. TRANSFER TO A THIRD PARTY.

    a. software other than Windows Anytime Upgrade. The first user of the software may make a time of transfer of the software and this agreement, by transferring the original media, the certificate of authenticity, the product key and the proof of purchase directly to a third party. The first user must remove the software before transferring it separately from the computer. The first user may not retain all copies of the software.

    b. Windows Anytime Upgrade software. You can transfer the software directly to a not third parties only with the licensed computer. You can't keep all copies of the software or any previous edition.

    c. other requirements. Before any transfer authorized, the other party must accept that this agreement applies to the transfer and use of the software.

  • Sale of OEM computers without the recovery disk

I just bought a computer from a State surplus auction.  The computer came with Windows XP Home installed, and a certificate of authenticity attached to the case.  However, there was no recovery media included in the sale.  Is it legal to sell me the computer as it is?  Everything I read says I need to include the recovery disk so that the license transfer legally, but I feel that the reason is so that I have more copies of the software.  Is this correct?
    Thanks in advance!

Do you mean that the current drive cloning and who then distributes with the sale of a PC would be in the EULA?

  • How to remove old computers outside the network

renamed my computer on the network, and now the former name and the new name are visible in 'network '.
Of course I can only access my last 'name', but how can I remove the old computer?

    Hi ninjahomy,

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

Your computer is on the field ?

If it's on the field , then get in touch with: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/w7itpro, windowsvistaitpro, windowsxpitpro /

If this is not the case, there are 3 methods to remove it.

    Method 1:

You can remove the old power off computers network on your router/modem, which will have a list of home computers > Home Network > Display Devices. Hit the set up on this screen allows you to delete the old computers from the list.

    Method 2:

Another method to try is to clear the DNS cache:

    1. click on start

    2. open the administrator mode command prompt and type "ipconfig/flushdns", and restart.

    Method 3:

Have you tried to reboot server from a cold start? Cold start
turned off, unplugged, power cable means not only the computer switch
off, for at least 30 seconds, a minute or more is better.

All computers OFF, removal of tension (pull the plug if you have to; not of power
depend on the power switch; It's not always really 'off').

Wait 30 seconds or more. Turn on the server machine. Let boot completely.

    Then:

Do a restart of the server computer, you just start. It's just insurance,
    sort of a fail-safe action.

Now power on other machines. the list has to rebuild properly.
    EMI at least.

If you have problems with GROUPS, I think that can be deleted. Or
renamed, all that is necessary. Remember, each machine needs a group and the
the same group, to include IN a group.

    HTH
    Pop'

This list should be be rebuilt every time that the computer starts, if if
There is nothing here to identify the missing machines, they should not be
    display upwards.

    Hope this has helped

  • What is the purpose of the sale of operating system preinstalled on laptops?

What is the purpose behind the sale of operating system preinstalled on laptops? You try to save 1 cost of DVDs?  I either have to use my recovery DVDs (which is full of junk btw) do more DVD and disk space or try to look for OEM copies or other sources of torrent which contains mostly horses virus/Trojan etc... (given that my laptop have ultimate am I looking for my own language as well) Since your price of the OS is included in the price of laptops, what is the purpose of this Act cheap marketing? Im sure even download it costs you and me in terms of bandwidth internet. I paid for it and I want to do a clean install of it whenever I want.

    Original title: A Simple Question

Versions OEM Windows 7 that are pre-installed on new computers laptops or desktop computers is significantly cheaper than commercial versions. Because manufacturers buy Windows licenses in bulk, it offers the flexibility to offer more affordable way for consumer Windows.

Imagine paying $300 to $ 50 on this new PC? In fact, the OEM might pay $50 for the license, but likely to be practiced only $25 for the consumer.

  • No COST for the OEM of Windows 8 version!

When I have no COST for the OEM of Windows 8 version, how can I confirm that I have a pirated version of Windows 8 retail sales provided by the seller or the right OEM with CDKey version in Bios?

For purchases made by my organization can follow.

If hackers are able to decipher the encryption of the BIOS, windows 8 will be sold freely as legal version organizations such as ours. Given that we have provided nothing to verify the authenticity of the operating system.

The thing is, hackers can crack the encryption, taking into account, the system Windows 8 by default uses Secure Boot which makes it extremely difficult to do. The system checks a certificate whenever it starts to ensure that no changes since the last boot. This is the reason why all pirates Windows 8 installed so far should be using KMS activation. He set up of Windows 8 feature BIOS as there was for Windows 7.

With Windows 8, Microsoft changed stickers that have the product key that the user must type in during the installation of the operating system of new embedded BIOS product key. The idea is that by eliminating the tile, you eliminate one of the easiest ways for nefarious users get a legitimate product key. The sticker also eliminating product key removes any concern that the vignette could get damaged while at the same time eliminating the long and irritating the process of typing in various letters and numbers in the installation of the operating system.

If the user has to reinstall the operating system on a computer with Windows 8, the installation process automatically captures key software product of the motherboard BIOS without input from the user. This means that these stickers familiar windows product key will no longer appear on Windows 8 computers.

  • "Limited connection" when you configure the network between two computers XP.

Original title: Configuration of the network connection

Trying to establish a network connection between two home PCs., both running Windows XP Pro. Have been through the network on both PC Setup Wizard but, they still say limited, in fact no connection. I use an Ethernet cable between the two Crusader. If it is true what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanx Terry

Old but good, networking tips from MVP Malke, MS:

The best and simplest is to buy a wireless router. This way you get Internet connectivity both machines and the added benefit of security more between you and the Internet. Then you configure your network wireless safely, and then you configure file/printer sharing. Here is information on the implementation of a router and also in networking. It seems long, but don't be intimidated. Setting up a router and the LAN of sharing between two computers takes about 15 minutes.

    The router configuration

Setting up a router is simple enough. Normally, you run the CD that came with the router and follow the instructions. If you're running Vista, maybe the CD that came with the router does not work; I do not know this. But you can set up the router without the CD. Note that if you have Internet cable for the connection you have just set up the router to DHCP (or there may even be a choice of cable to choose). If you have DSL Internet, you select TRP usually and enter the username and password you selected when you initially set the DSL connection. So:

    1. turn off the power to your cable modem.

    2. attach a cable (usually supplied with the router) course Ethernet cat5e Internet/WAN port of the router to the Ethernet port on the cable modem.

    3. connect the ethernet cable cat5e from the network card in your computer to one of the ports on the router. If you do not have an ethernet cable (because you were using USB), you will need to go to the store and buy a.

    4. turn on the cable modem. After that all the lights are on, turn on the router.

    To configure the router:

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples given are for a Linksys router. See the manual of your router or the router mftr's Web site. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (it is default IP address of the router, which varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Enter this information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your configuration utility may be slightly different from mine.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Re-enter the password to confirm it, and then click Save settings at the bottom of the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again. Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to enter the configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the network name (SSID) wireless by default to something, you'll recognize. I suggest that my clients not use their surname as the SSID. For example, you might want to name your network wireless network "CastleAnthrax" or similar.

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes were successful, click the wireless security link which is just beside the Basic Wireless Settings link (where you changed your SSID). If you have a newish computer, you will be able to affect security WPA2-Personal Mode. Do this and enter a password. The password is what you enter on all computers that are allowed to connect to the wireless network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you use to configure the router will normally connect wireless, disconnect the Ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new network. Enter the password you created to join the network and start surfing.

    B. file/printer sharing of

Excellent, comprehensive, but easy to understand article on sharing files/printer under Vista. Contains information about sharing printers and files, and the folders:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx

For XP, start by running the Network Setup Wizard the on all machines (see warning in section A below).

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, it means which allows file sharing / print on the Exceptions tab normally run the XP Network Setup Wizard will take care of this for these machines. The only "witch hunt", it will turn on the XPSP2 Windows Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus with "Internet Worm Protection" (like Norton 2006/07) which acts as a firewall, you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this. The instructions on this link work for XP and Vista:

Set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. XP Home does not share the users directory or the Program Files, but you can share folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the Shared Documents folder. See the first link above for more information on Vista sharing.

    F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but it is outside this response.
