Creating a USB boot for el capitan

Hello together,

my macbook pro does´t work longer. The monitor during startup is gray and it does´t boot correctly. I wanted to create a USB boot with my mac and followed the instructions on the apple site. I wrote it in the terminal:

sudo/Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia--volume of 16 Volumes/STICKI-applicationpath/Applications/Install\ OS\ El\ Capitan.app X\

STICKI 16 is the name of the usb key. Then I got the comment, I should check my device twice. It is possible, I have stop my Mac. I have Don t need of such a catastrophe. It s worse enough, that my macbook pro pro is down.

Now I m uncertained.

Here my question: do you have someone proceeded as above written successfully? Is there someone who has a good advice for me in this case?

Sorry for my bad English, I left school 40 years ago.

Thank´s for the good answers and greetings form Germany.

Ralf Jacob

These are the instructions I used:

  • How to create a usb bootable for IE captain?

When I was doing the usb boot, I found articles with google, but they are all so outdated.

Many say even using an 8G usb... which of course is not allowed now, as the required minimum is 16G.

I use the Middle terminal to the USB.

What is the process that is more up-to-date? And what is the code of sudo for this please?

I tried the sudo Web site code, it turns out that say that there is no function "createinstallmedia".

    Hi Guoxuan,

When you mention "createinstallmedia" looks like you want to create a bootable Installer for El Capitan.

Note 'createinstallmedia' is not a function built-in, but is part of the package install, as shown in this article.

Create an installer for OS X - Apple support bootable

Use the "createinstallmedia" command in the Terminal

    1. Download the installer for OS X for the Mac App Store. Quit the installer if it opens automatically after downloading. The installation program will be located in your Applications folder.
    2. Mount your USB key or another volume. You can also use an internal secondary partition.
    3. Open the Terminal application, which is located in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder.
    4. Use the createinstallmedia command in a Terminal to create the bootable Installer. Examples of this command are in the next section. To get the detailed instructions for use, make sure that the app install OS X proper is in your Applications folder, then enter one of the following in a Terminal:

    Path for El Capitan:

    /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia

Note in step 4. the appropriate installation program should be in the Applications folder before you reach it.

The article gives a more complete example of the command.

The following examples assume that the OS X Installer is in your Applications folder and the name of your USB key or another volume is MyVolume:

    Example for El Capitan:

    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app

If you are just trying to create a bootable USB key, then you just install El Capitan on this disc as usual, by selecting the USB key as a destination.

  • Create DIA USB boot UEFI?

I have an E6440 with UEFI enabled in the bios.  I installed windows 7 64 bit Ent.  I installed DIA and created a USB and my captured image.  Now when I test the USB on the same E6440 with active UEFI, the USB IS NOT to appear in the start menu in "UEFI BOOT.

what I've done wrong?  Why used to the USB that I create with show SLIDE upward with UEFI active?

    Tyler,

When a USB stick is formatted for UEFi boot, it will appear in the boot under the heading "UEFI BOOT" menu.  I formatted USB key regular with "Rufus" that appear in the section 'UEFI BOOT' from the start menu, but the DIA USB created are not displayed in the "BOOT of the UEFI.

My question is why don't the USB of DIA NE key appears in the section 'The UEFI BOOT' in the start menu, when it is formatted in fat32?

  • Rufus (free utility) takes 2 minutes to create a USB bootable for ESXi installation starting source who becomes the target of the installation, even for 5.5

Just info, one of these open Windows source rare beads that are becoming more and more difficult to find on the web these days, in the middle of a see payloads of downloader.

Rufus I found to be very convenient for the quick creation of a USB flash drive you can start from, and then only install, for ESXi, no command-line stuff to memorize necessary and very fast:

    TinkerTry.com/rufus-takes-2-minutes-to-create-a-bootable-usb-flash-drive-for-esxi-installation

works very well with ESXi 5.5 also:

    TinkerTry.com/download-vsphere-5-lab

and when finished with this flash drive and you want to use it for something else (but normal reformatting does not work), she who manages, even on Windows 8.1:

    TinkerTry.com/rufus-lets-you-quickly-and-easily-reformat-an-esxi-usb-flash-drive-back-to-full-capacity

Especially useful for people to start who shy away from Linux VMware procedure:

Format a USB to start the ESXi Installation or upgrade

    Documentation Centre of vSphere 5.5

Windows diskpart commands or potentially dangerous. Really fair, fast and useful for pretty much everyone.

    Thoughts and opinions?

Just a follow up on my comment about several injection of VIB in the ISO that you use as a file source for Rufus (a few months back, seen above):

Here is the article that came out of this subject (Yes, it works!):

  • Problem creating bootable installation for El Capitan

    Hello

When I try to create an installation program for El Capitan bootable on a new MacBook Pro (A1278) in November 2015 using the string SUDO included in

HT201372: Create a bootable OS x Installer, I get an immediate failure with the answer "sudo: failed to initialize the PAM: no such file or directory." Diskmaker X loops on it and runs into the same answer of the problem.  Is there a solution or the solution to this problem?

If you do not already have a current backup, please backup all data, and then reinstall the OS. * you don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need the backup unless something is wrong. If the system has been upgraded an earlier version of Mac OS X, you may need to the Apple ID and password to use.

There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

If you installed the runtime Java distributed by Apple, and still need, you will need to reinstall it. It goes the same for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.

Related support article refers to OS X 10.11 ("El Capitan"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later versions.

  • installation of El Capitan in a mac by usb, but only using windows to create the USB

installation of El Capitan in a mac by usb, but only using windows to create the USB

I'm having a problem to install el capitan on a mac book pro 2009 has changed (dead) to an ssd HARD drive

I can't find that any information how to do this from a windows machine (now only available) of the old system had the lion as I was told and when trying to install lion line or wireless it says it isn't available now so the machine is stuck without an operating system.

If you are anywhere near an Apple Store, I would suggest bringing your MBP to and asking to help. For USB, you need to partition and format to allow to boot on a Mac, what Windows can not do. Then either create a bootable installer or install OS X on USB and then copy the installer it, boot from it and run the installer with the SSD as a target.

  • How to create a USB key with HUU for UCS

    Hello

I have 4 UCS C220M3 requiring updates and I downloaded HUU2.0.3d - 1 for that in the ISO file

  • Key USB bootable Windows created on PC Win for iMac

    Hello

Hard drive in the iMac to my uncle recently crashed beyond the period of guarantee (bought 3 years ago). Repair and check orders gave an error. Only option seems to erase the partition class and create a new, but he has files that it contains so I would like to find a better solution and besides, there is no guarantee that I'll be able to install a new OS on the drive hard as the hard drive seems to be the cause of the problem - it's clicking. When we turn on the Mac, only gray screen and loading time for eternity circle. Google search did not help. My uncle paid $1800 at BestBuy for a so-called quality iMac only run in a hard drive potentially died 3 years later. && ^ & ce $@$*. I told him not to buy an iMac that I never used their and had no idea how to fix them either, but after all, forums and discussions I've scoured, it seems, NOBODY, not even Apple, has an idea on how to solve this problem. So hopefully someone here can tell me if it is possible to create a Bootable USB drive for Windows on a Windows PC for USE on a IMAC, DATA on IT WITHOUT CLEAR ALL MY UNCLE! If that's the case, then please provide instructions. Your help is very appreciated! Thank you!

The answer to your question is no.  Windows must be installed using BootCamp for BootCamp provides the drivers for Windows which is necessary for the Mac hardware.  Windows is also able to read natively an HFS volume +.  You are better off starting the recovery internet computer and then install OS X on an external drive.  If you hear clicking on the internal hard disk, then it is an indicator that there is a hardware failure with the hard drive for data recovery is not always possible.

The short answer is, no, the number is not a good tool for this work. Or (I think) is the current version of Pages.
