Cross-references in the output PDF from Framemaker: how to center the Pages?

I think I understand quite well the functioning of cross-references in Framemaker, but one thing that bothers me, it's how, when you generate a PDF from Framemaker file and clicking on a reference, the resulting page view locates the cross at the top of a page reference marker.

It's very annoying and confusing when, say, referring to a figure of legend that appears at the bottom of a page. Page display that results when such a reference in a PDF document after Center the text of the _following_ page, with the text of the legend of the barely visible figure at the top of the page.

My question: is it possible to build cross references that show the page, when you click in a PDF document, is centered on the page that displays the cross-reference material?

Thank you very much.

Not AFAIK in FrameMaker.

But in Acrobat, set the initial view one Page instead of continuous.

File > properties > Initial View.

Two upward (direction) and two up (cover Page) would also work.

  • Why my Panel references altho don't use explicit names for each cross-reference in the list?

    Creating a catalog.

    I've defined two 'the hyperlink destination' and using them as "cross references" in my table of contents.

    I'll add many of the cross-references more soon, but I need the Panel cross-references to the list of people with meaningful names, so I can find and edit easily.

    Otherwise, I might be better off just update numbers manually when the catalog is updated (yuck).

    Is there a way to Cross reference panel to use meaningful names without using the name in the visible text on the page?

    Here's what I mean:

    prptz.PNG

    Just a sign dang sharp, since the format of my cross references simply entered a page number on the page.

    How can I know who is who? I don't. I need more information in the Panel references Cross.

    If I add some text to the definition of the format of the cross-reference, it is visible on the page, BUT it also added cross-references to the Panel.

    Close, but no cigar.

    I can't leave anything other that the corresponding page number appears on the page.

    Any ideas?

    I decided to believe there is no solution to the Panel Cross references give me a more explanatory list.

    At least I can highlight the text Variable in the doc and the Destination of the respective hyperlink is highlighted in the cross-reference panel. This will have to do.

  • Using cross-references in the index?

    I was wondering if there are any suggestions out there for using cross-references in the index.

    I don't think you use the option 'see also' is what I'm looking for; what I want to do is to create index with a cross next to them reference entries.

    I tried this by creating an entry index and typing (see "another name of the topic") next to it, but when I compiled the project that this index entry has not been included because I do not have a subject entrusted to him.

    Is it possible to create an index entry of reference without an assignment of subject? Or are there other workaround solutions that you use?

    Index of cross-references are designed to allow you to have keywords in the index when you click on redirect the user to another keyword. For example I use for acronyms to redirect users to the long version. You are subject cross references within the project? If so, you may not use the index of references by indexing the same way? If the cross-reference you want is outside the project, using the index is not the way I would say. Why not use a link in a topic to a URL, file, etc. You may be able to do what you want with a redirection topic, but I haven't looked into this. Come back with more details if I leave the brand.

  • After I converted the PDF to Word how to select some pages to save as a new document? Thank you

    After I converted the PDF to Word how to select some pages to save as a new document? Thank you

    You said you have a Word file and use certain pages in the file to create a new document.

    Use Word to create a new Word file that has the pages you want for the original Word file.

    You now have a "new document" desired pages.

    With Acrobat Standard or Pro installed, you can create a 'new document' PDF.

    If you don't have Acrobat Standard or Pro, or a subscription to an Adobe online service that can create PDFS from MS Word, you can use the Microsoft process to create PDF that comes with MS Word.

  • Cross reference is deleted after generation in FrameMaker 9

    Hello

    I use 9 FM on a Windows XP system. I update a book and created new formats for references to the chapters. When I insert a reference in one of the chapters, it displays perfectly; part of the cross-reference is bolded and part is in normal, black police. But when I generate the files, bold is removed. If I want it to show up properly, I have to open the X - ref, then click on replace.

    Some examples of references that don't work:

    Annex < "BOLD" > < Hyperlink > < $chapnum >, < focus > < Hyperlink > < $paratext >

    Annex "BOLD" > < < Hyperlink > < $chapnum >, < focus > < Hyperlink > < $paratext > < default ¶ font > page < $pagenum > <>.

    < default policy number > < "BOLD" > < emphasis > < Hyperlink > < $paratext > < ¶ fonts default > page < $pagenum > <>.

    I tried to place the < "BOLD" > in different places; nothing works. I have also asked another co-worker to try it too. She has the same question; It works fine when it is inserted, but after the generation of the "BOLD" is removed.

    Thank you

    Rosemary

    You try to combine several character formats, which create replacements, for example or or . Don't do that FM doesn't really work like that.

    Create a beacon of uniqueness with the full format you need for content and use that instead, for example annex<$chapnum>

  • Cross referencing in the Pages 5,6

    I am writing a document that refers to the same source several times throughout. With the help of endnote function is a great way to organize these references, but I don't want to create a new reference number I already used earlier in the document. For example,.

    Steve discovered this thing. [1] Bob later discovered that other thing. [2] when Steve found his thing, he did. [1]

    where 1 is repeated, rather than generate a 3, known as referrals. Is there a way to get the Pages 5,6 for this?

    Pages v5 does not have references and end notes/notes are assigned sequentially, unless they are made of alternate characters in the tab notes.

  • Cross-reference to the external link is broken...

    Hi all

    With your help, I was able to establish corss-ref (or hyperlink) to an external document.

    Yesterday, using HyperText (e-mail Client) option, I was able to create a link to an external Document PDF.

    Syntex Client Message: message openfile relative_path

    After you publish a document, a PDF external link works fine.

    But whenI move all files and subfolders to a different location, the LINKS are BROKEN. I haveIf there is a way to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

    The link works within the FM (hold the button ctrl + alt and click on the link)? If this does not work there, then your path information is not correct. Also, I think you might need to use the path in quotes because of the space in the folder name - FM has a heritage of unix and is a little sensitive on the paths and file names.

    Where the links are pointing to in the PDF file (use the Acrobat link tool > properties when you select the link area)?

  • What are the asterisks on FrameMaker xrefs imported from an xml file?  label cross reference *.

    I think I have a problem in my cross-references and hoping that there is a simple-minded answer (as I do something real dumb). I import the generated content of xsl and references appear in square brackets by * asterisks. If I double-click on a reference, it seems to open the appropriate file (may be an xml file before saving any files to fm docs).

    THE FOLLOWING XML CODE:

    < CrossReference XRefID = "IDapplications_tb" size = "fm:Fig - Tbl-Ex-Proc # on"

    "page #" srcfile="./CPU-1_Introduction.fm#IDapplications_tb"/ >

    HERE'S THE RULE:

    /*

    * Reference element

    */

    element "Reference" {}

    FM reference element "reference";

    "XRefID" attribute

        {

    is the property of fm cross-reference id;

    is the attribute of fm;

        }

    attribute "format".

        {

    is the reference property formula fm;

    is the attribute of fm;

        }

    }

    In the FM wysiwyg format, it pops up something like this (with the asterisks):

    Text label *.

    What do the asterisks mean? Thank you

    Your XML specified

    format = "" fm:Fig - Tbl-Ex-Proc # on page # ""

    but the model used when you open the XML file does not contain a cross-reference with that name, then format FrameMaker created for you with a few fake definition.

  • Cross reference marker text differs from the text on the page

    The text for a cross-reference marker is different from the written text of the page. For example, I have a numbered heading written as "3.1 Cats and Dogs", but the text of cross-reference to this position marker is "55227: title 1: 2.1 pigs and horses." The cross reference looks and works great on the page, but I can't understand why the text of the marker is different, and why it cannot be updated to match the text on the page.

    I use Windows XP and FM9. Thanks in advance.

    Ron,

    The target of a cross-reference marker must have a unique string that differentiates it from any other marker of cross-reference in the file... it is how Frame numbers how when it comes so it can maintain the link and make updates. As you have probably guessed, this string is a concatenation of way random (I think) integer to format BMP target and target the text of TFP at the time of the creation of the xref. With all these settings, it is easy to achieve the goal of a single string.

    It seems appropriate to have this text update during an update of the xref, if something changes in the target. However, this would create two problems:

    -All xrefs that are not being updated at the time wherever the marker is published would be broken. For example, suppose you have xrefs folder has a target and make updates, which modifies the marker of target due to changes to the target. Any xrefs in file B (or any file for that matter) would become broken, because they are still configured to search for the previous string of marker.

    -An update of the xref always you would have to save the changes to the target file, which is an inconvenience at best. For example, if you have made an update of the book and xref target markers have been changed, you'd have to make sure that the files associated with the changes were saved later, otherwise your xrefs update would be broken later.

    So, in summary, the text of the marker is just a unique identifier that is defined during the creation of the xref and necessarily must stay the same for its useful life, unless you want to go around fixing broken xref all the time. Moral of the story... do not put swearing or slandering of boss in your topics like temporary jokes if you never create xrefs their

  • The references in the table FM titles do not work in PDF format

    I use FrameMaker 8.0p277.

    I have inserted many links to titles of the Table in a book. They work when I Ctrl + Alt click in the FrameMaker file. However, none of them work in the PDF file.

    All other cross-references of the position of the styles and the URLs work well, it's only the headings of table who fail.

    I tried to check the styles of paragraph and character for the traps that I was taken by those from before, but there seems to be none.

    Someone at - it ideas, what does not work?

    Please try then. Note: it is generally recommended to have this option when you create interactive PDFs of FM. Post-processing routines tend to be a tad aggressive and remove valid links.

  • How to eliminate the random squares of output pdf?

    When I create a PDF from FrameMaker 8 file, random places appear in the output.  How can I remove those squares?  And the problem with the Distiller, Distiller, settings or with FrameMaker or what?  The squares do not replace the characters, but are on top of them.

    Thank you

    Erin

    Bill,

    Where can I make sure that the fonts are included?  They are integrated in the file Acrobat Distiller that I use when I generate the pdf file.

    I've been using file > print > Setup.    I use the printer driver for the printer color here in my office.  Print driver for a reason that I'm able to print the Adobe PDF.  When I do, I get the message "Cannot write in print file specified."

    I print to a .ps file and generate Acrobat data selected.

  • Error of cross-references resolved in FM 10 but even ref-s working in PDF format

    Hello world

    I ran into a problem, I can't fix: when you open an FM file in FrameMaker I get an error message stating that the document pending cross-references. Find/replace control also reveals that all cross-references in the file are broken, but the pod of cross references, I can jump up to the right terminal by clicking on go to the source.

    At the same time when I want to record the book in PDF format, these same references in the PDF file work very well: they are clickable and lead exactly to the right place. The .book and FM files are all stored locally, so no network or sharing in question. Markers added automatically, is a kind of reference paragraph.

    Could you please help me find a way to fix the links that seem to work very well?

    Thank you

    Svetlana.

    > What is a wash of the MIFID and how do you do that?

    Maker Interchange Format (readable document FM markup).

    In FM10 & later, I think that it is a drop-down menu item, but what it does is:

    1. Save all the files under .mif to the [last] MIF format, including the .book
      (if by hand, save in place for FM and .book to facilitate this)
    2. Close all files
    3. open files (MIF)

    If you do it manually, to the .mif file names, remember to open the files body.mif first and save it back as FM before opening the book.mif file.

    This process at least to score and can fix or correct any data structure that are not valid MIF.

  • Eratic behavior: book, the main text blocks and Cross References

    I'm on InDesign 2014.2. Mac.

    I'm working on a fairly large book. About 14 chapters / sections, about 400 total pages. There are also hundreds of cross references, almost all of them to anchor references.

    The design of the book is as simple as possible. There is no graphics, text blocks only.

    I use a single master page, with facing pages, and a block of text type. I used it throughout the production of the book, and the primary text flow worked well, chapter after chapter. Pages have been created automatically, and automatically flowed text.

    Maybe I need to change the page size of the book, and I also have a lot of editing to do which will reduce a lot of the chapters. I wanted to make sure all pages use the main text flow to do that, go as gently as possible.

    To my dismay, I discovered that although I used systematically throughout the book master text streams, all but three of my chapters have inexplicably lost their text stream. All images in these chapters have converted into ordinary images. That I edit the book, it's playing havoc with paging and referrals.

    I tried to restore the flow of text in one of the first chapters. It's easy to do, in theory.

    • Move the first page off to the side frame
    • Delete all pages except the first page
    • Command-shift-click on the first page to restore the flow of the main text
    • Copy and paste the contents of the old frame into the primary stream restored.

    When I do, the pages to move properly, and I'm back to having a chapter with a block of primary text on each page. Unfortunately, this breaks all cross-references that refer to this newly reorganized chapter and all references to the front in this chapter.

    I tried to do all that I could imagine. Only remove the frames and not pages. Try without the busy book. Nothing works. I tried the command update cross-references in the book menu. Has nothing.

    It seems impossible to redistribute the text in a new primary master framework, without completely breaking the cross references.

    I finally found something that seems to work:

    • Create a new master page at the end of the document.
    • Go to the last page of the history of the chapter and the last history image a link to the text block type on the page that you just created.
    • In the pages palette, delete all pages in the document, with the exception of the master page that you created.

    All text will be redistributed within the frameworks of masters, and cross-references (to and from the frame) seem to be intact.

  • Changing the text that appears in a cross reference

    Hi, I'm kind again in this cross reference something set and I'm doing something that doesn't work, I tried a few things and did some research but nothing has really helped me.

    So I work in a book, and we have several exercises (exercise 4.1.4.2, 4.x and so on) that works with the ball and the numbering style. We refer to them in the text, so I wanted to my reference to say "(do l'exercice X à la page XX) but when I link the cross reference, since the original exercise is written with a letter from cap (year X) well, he wrote"making the exercise page XX X) "

    I read that we cannot force in small character in ID (hoped to apply a simple character style) so there at - it another way to make this work?

    I can change it manually, but then it appears a conflict in the Panel cross references

    To make it more simple, I just want the exercise automated 4.X to write exercise 4.X, is it possible?

    Otherwise, I will pray for a "tiny" for CS6 style option...

    Thanks in advance

    I don't do much with the refs (tried it out on the last project, however), but I think your problem is that you must change the type of anchor text anchor point, you need to create from hyperlinks context menu > new Destination of the hyperlink...
