• 16 GB Cruzer Contour USB drive became 2x64MB

  I used a Cruzer Contour 16 GB USB 2.0 drive for almost 5 years, but one day, it became only two drives of 64 MB. Windows recognizes even two separate devices. Tried formatting, play with GParted in Ubuntu. I also haven't tried U3 installation feature, which I removed long ago, no chance. Is it possible to repair?

  

  Very strange.  If GParted sees more than the two scores 64 MB, I think that you have reached the end of the line with this player.

  If you have access to the Terminal of the Linux system try nuking with:

  parted/dev/SDX
  mklabel msdos
  quit smoking

  where X is the id of the USB device.

  Then partition with GParted.

  If windows asks to format the drive are really only 2 options.

  1. format the drive. If format is successful, you can run the software of data recovery on the drive and see if you can recover the data. If you do this make sure you don't do a full format. This will make the data unrecoverable. When formatting choose quick format. This will only rewrite the file system and data should be recoverable.

  2. If the format fails there is a problem with the hardware with the reader and you would have to send it to data recovery software will not work with our a formatted partition.

  I was wondering if anyone else has found that the Google Drive App works on OS X 10.9.5 the OS X Finder works only in thumbnail view.  The Google Drive App worked fine for several months until now, but suddenly it has started to interfere with the Finder.  I removed the app and all is well.  I tried to download and reinstall the software and the problem came back so I had to withdraw again.

  A new window appears without any content, then move this window made all kinds of weird stuff in the window instead of files. All other applications are fine, save/open boxes are fine.

I really wanted to do an archive and install in case where that just keep all the problem, and I don't trust a clean installation for a relatively small issue.

  This looks more like a graphical corruption problem, to my eyes.

  Could be a problem of chip (GPU) graphics.

  The internal heat of the iMac can cause all sorts of problems of component and failure over a period of time.

  You doing anything to compensate for the heat inside your iMac?

  As a control software fan to speed up the internal fans?

  Or run a small desk fan behind the iMac to reduce the internal temperature of the iMac?

  This could help to alleviate this problem, if the GPU has not, again, was permanently damaged.
