Cursor jumps randomly in Word

When I type on my laptop in Word the cursor jumps back to the previous text.  What is going on??

Hello

Two things that can cause these issues (among many others) are antivirus/security programs
and the mouse drivers.

  • Satellite Pro S500 - cursor jumps randomly

I have a Satellite Pro S500. There is a problem with the keyboard. When I type (no matter if I use Word, a web browser or any other application, even if the problem seems to have been particularly serious when you type this particular message) the cursor sometimes (often) randomly climbs: it goes back a few words or it can highlight a random section of text (it also makes no difference if I use a mouse external or not or how heavy/light style typo's).

It was suggested that this may have something to do with the sensitivity of the touchpad; However, reduce its sensitivity had no effect. It is a very annoying problem and would be grateful for any advice.

    Thank you.

    Hi ap4h,

I think you touch the keyboard as you type so you must disable the touchpad tapping function. This can be done in the options of the touchpad driver.

Here's a similar thread with some screenshots how adjust/disable tapping:

This is a bug that will be fixed in the RC version. If you're OK with putting on the installation from "unknown sources" in the application settings. A few possible corrections:

    1. Make sure that your hand doesn't have contact with the touchpad while you type.
    2. Disable the touchpad and external mouse.
    3. Download and install the latest drivers for touchpad for your Acer computer model.
    4. Contact Acer technical support for help with the problem.

  • When scrolling or paging down, guard cursor jumping back to the top (occurs in all programs including email, words, etc.).

While I'm working in an application program, it seems that certain keystroke (s) (shortcut keys I'm not aware and not intention to use?) causes my cursor jump to the top of the page and getting stuck there. When I scroll or page down to go to the point where I want my cursor to continue working and entering text or data, it doesn't let me do; it jumps to the top of the page.  Simualtaneously, if I try to solve the problem by making CTRL + G to go to a page says, the view goes to very large print (more than 100%) as soon as I hit him CTRL and that's all that happens.   It often happens in Word and when it happens there, it does also in my e-mail and Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer software.  I havde printed the list of keyboard shortcuts to see if I can detect what I do when typing that can cause, but so far I have not been able to know what could be.  I don't see any description of this type of behavior associated with any shortcut key; and I don't know what keys are causing it (by time, it starts to occurring at that I don't know what type, I used maybe inadvertently).  Someone on my team to support the University suggested that maybe it's my mouse; I changed my mouse and it's the same thing.  The only thing is that I've not seen what pops up is when I use the ball of keyboard to navigate (not the mouse); Since I ususally only dispenses with the mouse by send away from home, I'm not even sure that it won't happen that way either.  M HERE to loss. It is very annoying since I have to close the file, I'm trying to stop the behavior. and sometimes it will not even do this, I have to open a session

I will include links to articles that show you every possible shortcut keys that you might be inadvertently hit to create this behavior.  If none of these prove to be the problem, you can consult the web site of the manufacturer of your laptop because they sometimes proprietary software installed on portable computers that is separate from the operating system.

  • When you tap on my new laptop, the cursor jumps around and letters are places in the words entered previously.

    wendyjjll,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

Most likely, the problem is due to the sensitivity of your touchpad.  Whenever you type, your thumb probably affects the touchpad with the cursor to another location where you type.  You can set the sensitivity of your touchpad, or turn off the tapping by going into settings start, Control Panel, mouse and keyboard.  If it is not under that, the manufacturer of the laptop most likely installed custom software to control the touchpad.  Let us know what kind of cell phone, brand and model, and we will be able to help you.

  • Cursor jumps out of the sentence or back a few spaces or words.

When I type a sentence on my Dell Inspiron 1525, the cursor will jump back a few spaces or words and cause spelling mistakes.  This happens with all programs on my computer, as well as on the internet.  Any ideas?

You can update the drivers for the touchpad.

  • When you type the text, be it in Word on the e-mail message, the cursor jumps or segmet of the text disappears

When entering text, the cursor jumps, causing the text segment to be often lost or misplaced.  Occurs during the preparation of Word file, but also in E-mail mode

Laptop with a touchscreen, by chance?  Easy to do on a laptop as if tapping is enabled on the touchpad; your hands can easiy brush the touchpad causing the cursor to move and position of entry to change.
