• Memory for a D20 with X 5550

  I'm about to order little memory for my D20 and simply check to make sure that I forgot something. I have installed dual X5550s and so I need 6 sticks. I currently have 6 sticks of 1 GB of 10600. I plan on getting 6 sticks of 4 GB 1333 RDIMMS. All of them don't come in grade 1 or 2, so I really don't like? Is this correct? I'm sure they're all as 1.5V, so there is no decision here. They should be CL9, I think. Am I missing something?

  I'm not a big fan of Samsung products, so I thought of Hynix, for the most part. Any other brands? In the neck, I learned that the memory of quality IS a must. That and a good stable power supply.

• D20 - without with Xeon processor Hyperthreading?

  Since a few days I very happily use my new thinkstation D20 with a CPU Xeon 5506. However, when I start the Task Manager in Vista or Server 2008 I see always 4 processors. But I expect to see 8 processors using this processor Hyperthreading.

  Question: is there an option in the BIOS to enable Hyperthreading? I've always found it. Or does this processor not support Hyperthreading at all?

• Problem with upgrade RAM on iMac 21 ", mid-2011

  my iMac has 4 RAM slots. Already built in which 2x2gb. I have it decorated 2 x 4 GB.

  After a while, I met a problem, a strange tone while booting, RAM failure signalling. I removed a RAM 2 GB module, my iMac worked well for overall with 10 GB of RAM, but more slowly. I bought another 2x4gb and wanted to improve the memory. Once the odd tone.

  What really surprised me, that even I have exchanged only the remaining 2 GB module with a module of 4GB, even leading to the Strange tone (of course also two openings with 4 GB respectively). 2 former GB slots do not work with 4 GB of RAM modules, even if the capacity of the iMac is 16 GB.

  I tried the Apple, no where to found error hardware test. I was carefully choosing compatible right modules RAM (Corsair DDR3, 1 333 Mhz).

  What's wrong with my iMac?

• Problem with EqualLogic / MPIO / failover

  We ran a few tests in our environment with results less than ideal. Our environment is made up of 6 vSphere4 hosts a cluster connected to approximately 10 VMFS volumes. Each host has a vSwitch dedicated with two natachasery, 3 vmkernel NIC ports and each NETWORK adapter is connected to a different physical switch. We put the path of Round Robin policy so each volume has 6 paths of assets. On the side of EqualLogic, we have 3 members in a group, a pool for this group, and the controllers are connected to / balanced between these same two physical switches (5020 Nexus).   Our problem is when we try to test the failover / availability by simulating a failure of the switch. The EqualLogic group sees many timeouts / connection errors, but there still NIC is active on the active controller, so there is no controller failover. The hosts lose one of the two network adapters on the storage vSwitch, but even with a NETWORK card and online all VMFS volumes disappear from all hosts. When we make the switch online, all VMFS volumes return without taking corrective measures and virtual machines appear as if nothing happened. Try to use virtual machines, we see performance degradation until we have rescan / clean storage communication and then everything returns to normal.

  We are at a loss on where to start. We followed the recommendations of EqualLogic and of course being the guy from VMware that I pointed to storage. The hosts always show active paths when this happens and errors are the waiting times of connection which is the other reason, I think it would be good to start on the side storage. Someone out there with similar configurations which may have run into something similar?

  +The physical switches are independent.- + Overall, it's really jumping on me. All that I have worked with in EQL, you need to have some sort of connection between these two switches for balancing to work properly. When you say independent what do you mean? By doc of Dell, it indicates that the two switches need a group LAG/Etherchannel or stacked to take advantage of the LB correctly on the berries... I just have two PS4000 and set up with two 5424 PC with an offset of 4GB with no problems. The rest of your looks of thin configuration, should not have other problems on the side of VMware, it's certainly side of the switch.

  Maybe someone with more experience high-end Cisco can chime on what type of configuration you need between switches. I may be an another Dell doc that treats the necessary switching configurations.

  I have the same problem. I shouldn't update AC. I really like AC2.2 no bugs for me. 2.3 AC is full of them. I'm wiping devices and it fails every time. We use hubs USB Bretford PowerSync D20 with Macbook Pro. We were clear and prepare without devices of 20 questions with AC2.2 but now it is a failure with AC2.3. Is happening here?   This map is auto-negotiation.

  If its does not work, you can do it from the card BIOS.  If its still does not, check the fiber.

• Upgrade RAM R420

  Looking for possibly increase the RAM on a R420: dual processor (2 x Intel Xeon E5-2430 2.2 GHz), 2012 64-bit server. The vehicle currently has 16 GB of RAM (4 x 4 GB 1333 MHz); total of 12 slots reports system information. What are the configuration/ordering options possible with the addition of extra 4 GB or 8 GB sticks? I did not necessarily a desired level of GB to achieve, but I'd like to at least get to 24GB.

  It will build on the DIMM 4 GB UDIMM or Rdimms are existing. If the DIMMs to 4 GB UDIMM so the only option you would add DIMMS to 4 GB to 48 GB. Now, if they are Rdimms you more options. With Rdimms, you can go to 96 with 12 8 GB DIMMS, or even 192 GB, if you si vous deviez need to chose 12 16 GB DIMMS. With their mix, I would suggest adding 4-DIMM 8 GB and placing them in A1, A2, B1 and B2. Then place the 4 4 GB DIMMS in slots, A4, A5, B4, and B5. Which leaves you with a total of 48 GB total. You can now add and remove part of the DIMM for different configurations, it is just a suggestion.

  Personally, I'd go with option that is less expensive. If you add 4 x 16GB to your existing memory is less, then it would be a good option. Install them in the 16th, 16, 4, 4, 4, 4 by the graphic on your access panel. This will give you a total 96GB without any loss of speed. I see no reason to leave empty DIMM_6.

  The differences in performance between 12 x 8 GB and the odd option is probably minimal. You may lose only 1 ~ 5% maximum leaving the last empty places. If it is for storage purposes (ie: large CAD assemblies) then you won't see any difference. If you use memory for calculations (CFD, FEA, etc.) while 1 ~ 5% could save a few minutes in your day.

• 8 GB RDIMMS for D20 and C20x Ram

  I know the FRU for the 8 GB access quarter for the D20 and C20x, but I was wondering if anyone knows if the next 8GB RDIMMS would work just as well - 67Y1464-02. I only ask because I can get this part number for about 1/3 the price mentioned for the D20 and C20x. The only difference I see is that this one is 2rx4 and the 8 GB RDIMMS listed for the D20 and C20x is 4rx4 (so twice the depth, I think). But most of the other modules accepted by the D20 C20x 2rx4 (but just not the 8 GB one. Thanks in advance for any input.

  @Astyx, welcome to the forum.

  You are right that the PCIe 3.0 is backward compatible with PCIe 2.0.  However, your problem is the motherboard.  The Radeon card requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a Legacy BIOS. The BIOS may not be walking in the UEFI.  PCIe 3.0 cards requiring UEFI will not work in any other location.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid-October 2012.  The latest maps to exploit without UEFI are the GTX 660/670.
