Data transfer Assistant - doesn't recognize palm desktop

I have a Palm Tungsten e I installed Palm Desktop v6.2 so I could transfer my data on my new Pre phone.  My Pre phone is plugged into the USB port on my computer and I selected the USB key on the phone. I then started the data transfer Assistant, has chosen to run, chose following the Welcome screen, chose following to the login window since I already have my phone connected pre, says next message window ' although Palm Desktop is installed, there is no data to transfer.

This is incorrect. my Palm Desktop contains data.  Why the data transfer Assistant say that?  The only option is left.  How do I get past this so I can transfer my data?

I did setup a Google mail account and put that on my phone but it seems not to matter.

Any help would be appreciated.

I found the solution to my problem with the DTA does not transfer my data from Palm to my Pre phone.  Here are the steps I took:

(1) backed up the data of palm on my external hard drive

(2) uninstalling palm desktop and palm versalmail by using Add/Remove programs

(3) record deleted program files/palm

(4) pc reloaded

(5) installed Palm Desktop V6.2

(6) synchronize Tungsten E PDA to pc

(7) made 3 new Palm Desktop: 1 user profiles for the calendar, 1 book, 1 for memos address (got this tip from another validation)

(8) exported calendar data in the profile calendar, address to the address profile data and data Memo memo profile

(8) DTA started

(9) selected a profile suitable to transfer to pre - done 3 times.  Wanted to make sure that each type of data transferred correctly and it also gave me the opportunity to choose where I wanted to save the data

(10) SUCCESS!

Hope this helps someone else out there.

  • File 'mig' data transfer Assistant

(Working on the Sprint this morning online customer service, but they have quickly exhausted their standard options and do not know how to help me).

I ran the data transfer Assistant to my pre.  I have Outlook 2007 (the previous one had a Treo 700 p) and I try to transfer

    • 917 contacts
    • calendar items 328
    • 0 tasks (don't no need)
    • 467 notes/memos

OK, so the fact that the .mig file is gone means the party to the phone to transfer all read in the file. This could be a matter of time. So what happens first of all, it is only your contacts imported and then audited for related contact matches (contacts that have matching data is connected in a single contact). Once done, that everything starts coming into the phone.

That being said, if you want to start over, I'd be very careful about this. The DTA brings on EVERYTHING, so everything he dropped on your phone already is going to be duplicated. If you really want to do it again, follow these steps:

Open Backup, tap the button toggle to turn it off, then tap Delete & turn off - it is to make sure that the backup data is not automatically restored and then duplicated when you run the DTA

Open Device Info, click options to reset, press erase partial - this will delete all of your PIM data from the phone.

The phone goes back to the top, add your accounts to it, and rerun the DTA. Don't forget, don't do that if you REALLY want to start over. If not, try just to give it some time

I have a new pre and you try to transfer my data from outlook 2007.  When I run the download file, it opens with a window explaining which versions of outlook or palm desktop, you need with a button closure on it.  When I hit the close all button closes.  I don't know if he can not see outlook or what the problem is.  Has anyone seen this problem.  Thank you JD

  • Data transfer Assistant will not be installed

I try to install DTA. It comes up with an error message that I don't have an 'Application'. It says that I need to MS Outlook or Palm Desktop. I installed MS Outlook. It only allows so I quit the program without any additional options. I have Outlook 2007 installed that I use regularly. I use Windows XP Home edition (32 bit). I tried to install it with open and closed Outlook.

I have a Palm Pre, which I've not connected to my PC yet. Any suggestions?

Well, that the pain that has been. DTA does not recognize that I had installed to Microsoft Outlook. Although the instructions for DTA says it would work, he also says, you should have

Palm Desktop or MS Outlook installed. I took a flyer and downloaded and installed Palm desktop. I ran DTA again once and got away, but he said that I had all the data to be transferred.

To import contacts from MS outlook to Palm Desktop, export to MS outlook contacts to a CSV file, and then import the CSV file in Palm Desktop. Unfortunately, there is a

missteps in palm desktop that you have 'line up' all your fields in the CSV data file exported so that the corresponding data gets into the correct place in Palm desktop. I did the best I could.  Then I imported the CSV file in Palm Desktop. After that, I ran DTA, and despite his cryptic/non-existent instructions, I was able to get my contacts in my meadow.

I don't understand why this should be such a nightmare. I mean, I hooked the pre to download music, and Itunes immediately started and recognized the pre as an Ipod. I just synchronized and loaded a few playlists without problem.

BTW, DTA still does not see the data of MS outlook...

  • Number format not valid in the data transfer Assistant

I'm trying to download data from a CSV file in a table via the download data wizard. However, it always seems to fail on some lines with an error "invalid number format". Even if I stick one of these lines in the wizard, it still does not work. There is nothing wrong with the data, and I can do a regular insert Toad with no problems.

    The data are:
    28126238,101, RM, 29/01/2011

    The table looks like this:
    CREATE TABLE STR_PROD_UPLOAD
    (
    NUMBER OF PROD_CD,
    NUMBER OF STORE_CD
    CHARACTER VARCHAR2 (10 BYTE),
    DATE OF REPL_START_DT
    )

It works very well on Toad:
    INSERT INTO STR_PROD_UPLOAD)
    STORE_CD,
    PROD_CD, line, repl_start_dt)
    VALUES (to_number('101'), to_number('28126238'), 'RM', to_date('1/29/2011','MM/DD/YYYY'));

Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong or how I can go about the matter of finding?

FYI - evolution STORE_CD of a varchar2 and PROD_CD solves the problem, but I would like to know if it is possible to solve this problem for later use.

    Thx John

    Hi John,.

For some reason, I get the same error. However with the download of the data, you can still provide you own number format in the case where the application could not a defined automatically. In your case, using Date / field number Format (for example: 99999999) will force the system to use the supplied format.

  • After synchronization, nothing appears on Palm Desktop

My Verizon Treo 650 works perfectly. It syncs also perfectly to my computer, install new programs that I had to and did not have any kind of evil.

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is my default program for managing any kind of files for palm, but when it is opened there is absolutely NOTHING that my Palm sync showing up for her. No telephone contacts, dates, whatever it is.

I don't have a data plan, so I do not use Outlook or have contacts or addresses in there, but shouldn't my phone contacts and dates be saved and showing on Palm Desktop?

Thanks in advance for any help to solve this.

All right. Palm desktop is currently set to synchronize with Outlook. But you want to sync with Palm desktop. On the PC goto START, all programs, then to Palm. You should see the led sync PIM. Select sync with Palm Desktop.

  • Back to Palm Desktop synchronization, rather than with Outlook

I recently installed Outlook on my PC and was then given the option to sync my Treo to Outlook. I didn't think it would mean that it would be no longer synchronized to my Palm Desktop. I don't find a way to return to Palm Desktop synchronization, I prefer, without uninstalling Outlook. Can anyone offer advice. I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!

If you use a newer version of Palm Desktop, you can change the way that you want to synchronize easily. On your PC, go to start > programs > Palm > PIM led Sync > sync with Palm Desktop.

All your data will not be synchronized for Palm Desktop. If you do not have this feature, you can download and install a new version of Palm Desktop by going to www.palm.com and click support.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

If you have data in Excel, you can save the excel file in an ASCII text and file import/synchronization of the device through the Desktop Manager.

  • transfer data from your old computer to new computer. Palm Desktop app where led apps?

    Help, please

I backed up my old files from my Palm programs out of my old computer database

(The hard disk and the computer went wrong, and then he died.)

Question: which directories and where do I copy the old data, so that I can hotsync?

I hotsynced once, but I do not see programs in Hotsynce led screen, where

you select handheld to crush desktop or synchronize files.

Question: In the screen sheath, which directory it seeks for programs?

    I have a Sony Clie PEG-SJ22 Palm Desktop v4.1, Mgr Hotsync 4.1.0.

I spent 4 days on re - install the palm software, to solve the problem of usb hotsync.

I'm finally able to hotsync, thanks to previous assignments and hours of re - install different versions

    the palm software.

Any help on the issues, would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Your data directory will usually be c > program files > palm > [user folder, usually an abbreviated version of your hotsyncid]

Are they missing conduits for third-party applications?  If so you will need to track down and reinstall them... most applications that have a duct must run a desktop installation routine to install the duct.

  • How to copy the data from Palm Desktop on a PC running Windows 8.1

If like me you still find the Palm Desktop data (addresses, calendar, notes, etc.) handy and use it long after throwing the combined capacity and 'sync', you can see this is useful.  I bought a new PC running Windows 8.1 and had problems with data transfer due to a problem as I understand it, which does not exist in Windows XP, Vista or 7 versions.  Here is a summary of a way to easily transfer data from these earlier versions if you have a USB flash drive (or Dropbox, Google Drive, whatever) very convenient:

    (1) Download Palm Desktop 6.2 or 6.2.2 to your new PC.  Give a user name exactly as it exists in the database from your old PC.  This name will serve as Office Automation to create a folder name of six letters (an abbreviated version of your name) to hold the data that Palm Desktop will turn upward.  Wait a few seconds for this to happen, and then close the application on your new desktop.

    (2) in your old PC you want to transfer data from, find the folder named "Palm OS Desktop" which should exist in 'Documents' under path of folder and subfolders 'Users' as > your subfolder name > Documents in Windows 7 (can also be Vista) or may be under "Documents and Setting" folder in Windows XP.

    (3) in this folder "Palm OS Desktop" search this subfolder of six letters of your name and select this whole subfolder and select 'Copy' or Ctrl-C

    (4) locate the same name of subfolder in your new PC (which will have data zero), delete and then 'paste' the subfolder you "copied" in the exact same location.  If you did it right, Viola!  Your new desktop PC should display all the transferred data, once you open the application again.

Most of the same procedure works with PC Windows 8.1 (probably also Windows 8).  What I found different is that the subfolder of data created under "Palm OS Desktop} had 7 instead of 6 characters with a"0"(zero), added as the last character.  When finally, you copy and paste this subfolder in the new PC there so rename and add "0" for the Palm Desktop to locate these data.

    I hope this helps.

Data in XP is located in C:\Program Files\Palm (or PalmOne) \ < your HotSync name truncated > \Backup.

HotSync for Win8 has been available for quite a while now!  See the post at the beginning of this section called "64-bit Windows USB drivers for Palm Desktop" for instructions and driver downloads.

Palm Desktop 4.x and 6.2.2 use different database formats - 6.2.2 went to .mdb as an extension.

Best way to migrate data is to perform a HotSync on the new machine, or use the built-in in Palm Desktop Export/Import option.  Export the addresses and calendar files, and then copy those of the new machine.

The import option to retrieve data.

  • Assistant (DTA) data transfer transferred some of my Contacts, none of my calendar or Memo files

When I ran the DTA at 5:30 PM PST yesterday, he said he had picked up ~ 4100 chronogram (Palm Desktop 6.2), with the exception of 20 files of calendar, which was very good.

On my old Palm device, he said I had ~ 1300 address book records, ~ 2000 Date record book and ~ 850 record Memo. So when the DTA said he had picked up ~ 4100 records, which seemed all right.

When you are prompted on my pre, I chose to sync my data with Google.

Immediately after this one-time transfer process, I checked my pre, and there is no record of my old Palm Desktop Contacts, calendar, or PRE memos. I thought that I should wait to see what happens.

About 7:30 PM PST yesterday, slightly more than half of my Contacts has appeared in Google Contacts section 'My Contacts' (725 total) and on my pre. The same recordings were in Google Contacts and on my Palm Pre. Furthermore, none of my calendar or Memo files had been transferred more to my pre or Google (for the calendar).

I thought that maybe the data transfer was still running, so I waited all night.

Since this morning 9:45 AM PST, nothing has changed.

My Pre and Google seem to have incomplete data:
-slightly more than half of records from address book Palm Desktop 6.2 made to my pre / Google
-any of the records in Palm Desktop 6.2 Agenda made my pre / Google
-any of the records in Palm Desktop 6.2 memos made my pre / Google

SUMMARY: I'm extremely frustrated. The only thing that I have always enjoyed with Palm devices has been the opportunity to upgrade to the new Palm devices and carry my existing data. The one-time transfer of DTA to pre process is very buggy. Somewhere after the DTA extracts data from my Palm Desktop (~ 4100 records), most of these documents have been lost. It is a horrible customer experience.

I did some online research, and the author of the following article also fell on a similar problem:

    http://blog.Treonauts.com/2009/06/Palm-pre-sync-solutions.html

I have tested and verified that when I create a new record on my pre calendar, he gets sync would correctly in Google Calendar and vice versa (new record created in Google Calendar sync does get would be my pre). It is very good for new data. But what of my thousands of existing data records? All these anniversaries, critical telephone numbers, addresses, etc.?

Before this experience Pre DTA, I've that Palm had their pretty solid synchronization architecture, while the Apple iPhone synchronization architecture (via iTunes) was poor. But at least iPhone na not lose all records along the way.

So I figured out how to get all my Contacts to load into my pre.

Initially, I tried to transfer my data using DTA to Google instead of Palm profile. Several times I tried to run the DTA to transfer my contacts from Palm Desktop 6.2 to Google contacts. Whenever I tried to do, at some point, sync Google contacts folders would stop permanently, until all records have been transferred to the course. You can find out how many records have been sync'd to a given pre Contacts by clicking on Preferences & accounts by clicking on the account. You will see the number of contacts.

So I decided to try to use the Palm profile as the storage for my Contacts and calendar, and all my Contact records (total 1372) was migrated successfully on the Meadow

The pre now displays contact records in my pre Contacts as I expect: I see the files I transferred over my Palm Desktop. And because I added a Gmail contacts, Gmail addresses friends get "linked" to the corresponding Contacts automatically.

Summary: my recommendation is that, for the DTA transfer process, you choose to store (backup) your Contacts (and calendar) on the Palm profile. Of course, the downside of this approach is data that has been created on your Pre will not be displayed in Google Contacts and Google Calendar. Of course, you can choose to add your Google accounts on your Pre to your Contacts and calendar, which is what I did. This makes the Chronogram of your Gmail contacts and introduce you to Google Calendar on your Pre. For example, I added the calendar we vacation on Google Calendar. And now these holiday appear on my Pre calendar.

  • Z22 all data lost palm desktop Memo / can not recover

    Hello

When I opened my z22 office program I got an error message saying roughly memo cannot be opened, it may have saved a '.dat' file but I can't find anything.

None of my memos exist on the desktop anymore, thankfully, they remain on the z22 because it was not plugged in.

I did nothing different than usual, I have no hotsync etc..

I use firefox, windows vista home basic sp2 32-bit T1500.

I tried to open the Palm as an administrator, but it changed nothing.

    Thank you

Have you tried restarting the computer?

When a computer malfunctions, there is always a chance that something might go wrong!  I can't guarantee anything across your screen...

You could try the option "repair" in Palm Desktop.  Go to Tools/Options/tools and use the check now button to see if it can repair damaged databases.

If it were my PDA, I'll try what I suggested.  If you have another Palm OS device handy, try beaming the data to the other device as a backup before you attempt a HotSync.   Don't forget to put the duct as I mentioned - "Pocket replaces Desktop" for the data you want to transfer.  Do not click the box for "Set as default" - you want this happen only once as a test.

  • Data transfer Palm Pilot IIIx for Blackberry 8320 blackBerry smartphones

Thanks to BBSingh for help posting this message. I would really appreciate help from the members of the forum to provide a remedy that is known to work with my Palm and Blackberry.

My problem is changing my old (December 1999 vintage) Palm IIIx data to my new Blackberry 8320. Years, I have used the Palm in conjunction with a Motorola L7089 (April 2000 vintage) and their IR ports for data transfer; Unfortunately, the phone fell in water and after drying carefully, he could make and receive calls again its screen remains empty, so no need to send SMS and most of the functions. Sales team convinced me to buy the Blackberry, but I'm starting to wonder if I've been conned, as usual with sellers once they get your money that they are not prepared to do anything else. New technology has undone me. In the long task of transfer of several thousand items manually I had recourse to the expertise of this forum.

A tip I found has been updated the Blackberry Desk Top Manager to v4.6 and it would list the Palm in its devices to transfer data from. I did, but the resulting Wizard at the point of registration of the Palm, but it wouldn't activate a greyed on the option button. DTM for Windows status options System Tray icon COM1 has been disabled. I could allow it, but as soon as this dialog box has been closed COM1 returned to the disabled state. BTW, this is a non sequitur on COM1 Hotsync of Palm transfers data to the PC via COM1 and the Palm software tools works very well also. I closed all the related applications of Palm and it made no difference. I tried DTM 4.5 with the same result. As an aside how the icon options DTM is deleted from the system tray, Windows Task Manager should be used to close the application.

Another tip say to export data from Palm in Outlook Express, then DTM would need to be OE. I enabled OE reluctantly because it is a questionable product, a favorite oxymoron is "microsoft security", has exported the Palm data in a CSV file, but when they are imported to OE it's garbage. Repeat the exercise but exported as tab delimited and got a worse result. Try to import or the other of these abortions in my Blackberry has been a waste of time.

Another tip say export data from Palm as VCF which can import BlackBerrys, but did not say how they did it. Palm tools allows only the comma or tab files in the delimited export formats.

MY PC is a Dell 4600 with 2 GB of RAM and 300 GB SATA HDD, XP Pro SP3, so that all the relevant fixes SP3 post. Windows Firewall software, the AV and malware have been temporarily disabled, and I logged in as administrator too.

    RESOLVED - 98%

A big thank you to everyone who contributed ideas. Here is the solution to most data transfer: -.

    1. install the Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5

    2. download the latest tools of Palm Desktop Manager which is 4.1.4 (I used 3.6)

    3. perform hotsync of Palm IIIx with Palm tools

    4. disconnect the Palm Pilot from PC

    5. connect the Blackberry to the PC

    6. open Blackberry DTM and check ' device (PIN): "appears

    7. Select the device switch Wizard, grant conditions and the next screen shows active button for Palm devices, click Next

8 calendar, addresses, etc. are read, previews of each appear for approval; with the exception of the calendar. Click OK to finish and get out

    9. close DTM, disconnect Blackberry

10, opening relevant applications on Blackberry to check, all transferred no problem except the grille which was empty

I can live without the old calendar entries and do not have to manually re-create handfull. So the question is settled.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Switch Device of Palm Desktop 4.1.4 for BB Desktop 4.6.0.13 crashes - no data

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the BB Desktop Software (downloaded a version of the AT & T website October). When I try to transfer my data from my Palm Desktop 4.1.4 software v in BB Desktop, it treats 6096 6395 calendar entries and crashes. No data is transferred to the BB. Any suggestions? I could live with do not transfer calendar data - that I have to back my contacts and can not do.

Help. I have 3000 + contacts I need to get more.
I tried the blue tooth beaming my contacts from my Palm Tungsten T5 to my BB "BOLD", but it fails (I think that the bluetooth of tungsten is not the Protocol for the "BOLD").
    Running Windows XP, SP2.

Managed to do work! I did events more than 1 month on my Palm device (I had to look at their database of support to get this operation works correctly) which reduced my total to 200. Clearly that removed the offender because all other events transferred via, and now it's the last of my data.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on Win8.1 synchronization but only showing no data

I'm so happy to have found this forum.  I didn't know there was so much love for the old Palm devices.  I started with a Palm V and worked my way up to a Tungsten T & palm Desktop 4.1.4 on WInXP and everything was so good that I resisted to move away from Palm Desktop, as it is just what I need.  But I just bought a new Win8.1 PC and am having a few problems that I hope someone here can help with.

I have been through help here on the installation of Palm Desktop 6.2.2 and win8 driver and installation has been very good and I couldn't hotsync via USB without apparent problems, except that Palm Desktop does not display any of my palm data!

When I ran hotsync (from cradle palm button) it asks a user name.  My Tungsten T was already used on my XP PC and was full of data.  If I entered the username of tungsten and hotsync continued.  It took a few minutes or so (as would be expected) and once finished he said that everything was ok.  I checked the logand Hotsync, it was confirmed that everything was synced properly - but when I open Palm Desktop there is no displayed data.

I then checked the data files in ...documents\Palm OS Desktop\... and addresses and calendar files are present and full of my data.  I've even opened in Notepad and could easily see loads of text ascii among all of the "junk" characters, so it seems that the synchronization process has worked correctly, but none of my Tungsten is displayed in Palm Desktop.

I then added an event on the agenda in Palm Desktop and another event the same day in tungsten.  I then did an another hotsync.  It was reported as a success, but the event of tungsten is not in the office, although the same office appeared on the tungsten.  If the synchronization process seems to work only one way!

I have had it before and would appreciate any help.

OK, try to use the "Palm Hotsync Setup" program found on this page.

    Since you're using an old T | T, maybe that's the answer.

There is a guide available on this site for the migration of data from Palm OS Android, if you are interested.  I made this jump years ago when webOS was finished.  You can find it on their homepage.
