DataGuard failover

Hi all

I nam using Oracle 11 g on RHEL 5 2.

I had implemented the DataGuard (database physical Standby).

I just want to know in case of failover, my Eve becomes primary, and after some time my first back, how will I do that primary to new standby/primary.

I mean, that is, after the failover if the failed node comes up, what is the best way to do is tandby again.

I'll reconfigure the dataguard setup?

Kind regards.

This reinstante can be so configured DGMGRL, right?

If the broker is configured, the reinstatement may be made.

If the broker is not configured, then you have to flashback to the "old primary" database to the value "Eve became primary YVERT" and then convert pending database. (Please note that you must have active flashbacks).

Please see the I posted in my previous answer. Which don't use a broker.

Global data service is not running transition real role. Once the transition from role was made manually or by using DGBROKER, the SERVICE is redirected to the specific instance. In the previous version, had to use a combination of GRID infrastructure, DATAGUARD BROKER service to perform this operation. Now using GDS should the Service must be defined and GDS to install.

  • operation of the switch /switchover? without DataGuardbroker

    Hello @.

I need some clarification on the "/switchover in dataguard failover operation.

Suppose a data base of production with a database of waiting without broker dataguard

on a case of failover (if instance down / server crash)

    1. how the application user data or the user request for the database reaches the new principal database if it uses the tns pointing to the former primary database names

    and,

    2. is it necessary to change the ip and host name of the new Server primary db (db previously standby server) from the old server to production db? If the user can access the db without any problem

Please see the light on this

    Hello;

This can be managed using "Transparent Application failover for Data Guard"

    Use 'DBMS_SERVICE. CREATE_SERVICE' to create a service.

    Thank you.

Flashback is very useful to recover from corruption of data, errors, etc. without having to restore and recover. It is also useful for dataguard failover. Now it has been disabled, then you have lost this feature, but I'd be more worried about the data base why did not write on the disc.

Check if this file already exists:-U:\ORADATA\MYDB\FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA\MYDB\FLASHBACK\O1_MF_4TZT90WV_. FLB

Look for space problems, disc problems.

    To turn it on: -.

    startup mount exclusive
change the flashback of the database
    stop immediately;

Problem is fixed - value StaticConnectIdentifier checked to a database of primary and standby in dgmgrl ==> primary port and standby was wrong wrt to the listening port value.

    Step 1 > error ORA-16664 and ora-12514

==> check StaticConnectIdentifier value for a primary database and a standby in dgmgrl ==> primary port and standby had value default IE 1521

    Primary:

    StaticConnectIdentifier = ' (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST=rac1.localdomain) (PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = PRIM_DGMGRL) (INSTANCE_NAME = PRIM)(SERVER=DEDICATED)))'

  • How manage the Tuxedo to reconnect to base what database restart or failover to standby dataguard?

    Hi expert,

My Tuxedo apps using simple to connect to the oracle database, do not use XA.

All connect and disconnect statements written in code.

In the situation, when the base data to restart or failover of dataguard standby database. I have to restart all the servers in Tuxedo to reconnect to the Oracle server.

If I want to reconnect to the database in the application code. I need to know all the exception of disconnection and catch.

ORA-00028, ORA-03135, ORA-01012 are all oracle error. perhaps than others, no list.

Do you know how to enumerate all the exception?

or is there a way to reconnect db connection all servers in tuxedos at the request?

    Thank you in advance,

    Chao

    Hi Chao,

The answer depends on the platform and version of Tuxedo.  On Oracle Engineered Systems with Tuxedo 12.1.3, you can make use of our new RAC are supported features to handle this in a transparent way, in addition to getting better performance if you use RAC.  New support includes support for FAN so connections can be switched forwards an instance goes down for maintenance.

For all other environments, I would say looking at TAF (application transparent failover).  TAF should be able to reconnect transparent to another instance or database dataguard.

    Kind regards

  • Small questions about Dataguard

    Hello

I have a few questions about Dataguard. I'm new to DG, carry me so for the display of these fundamental questions:

We plan to install Oracle 12 c to Win 2012 R2 with primary and physical intelligence on different physical servers. We are looking for HA solution, but cannot afford to license CARS. The two primary & Eve are going to be in the same data center connected via a 1 gigabit network. So I have a few questions related to it.

    (a) since both of our primary & Eve is going to be in the same data center with good connectivity. Can I assume that although Data guard is more DR solution, in our case it would be HA solution since we have no network latency.

    (b) is it safe to assume that where primary fails, then the day before can automatically take the role of primary education without any manual intervention, possibly using Dataguard broker?

    (c) so I understand that where primary breaks down, the existing connections transfer automatically from primary to standby db (most recent primary), but how my web based java application will know that more recent connections must be sent to the standby db Server (more recent primary)? I guess net Oracle has a provision to handle this? Who can be automated?

    (d) given that I have only 2 physical servers, can I deploy broker Dataguard on a normal PC (since it is a thin client) assuming the PC is kept in the data center and is online 24/7?

    (e) I was reading about the modes of Protection, account required to our current situation & infrastructure, I choose 'Maximum availability Mode' instead of 'maximum Performance '.

    (f) what is your point of view about Oracle integrated security? I hear too much on Oracle failsafe, because people generally go to a combination of CARS & dataguard for HA? We have a few additional storage that can be shared between the two servers, but I feel with literally no DG network latency can provide us HA.

    Concerning

    Learner

    (a) since both of our main & secondary is going to be in the same data center with good connectivity. Can I assume that although Data guard is more DR solution, in our case it would be HA solution since we have no network latency.

Well it will not provide the level of HA that is RAC. RAC is a Transparent Application failover. With a physical standby, you need to apply some delay for a failover operation. You can implement the observer that can automate the failover and reduce the time.

    (b) is it safe to assume that where primary fails, then the day before can automatically take the role of primary education without any manual intervention, possibly using Dataguard broker?

This isn't really the DG broker, but rather the observer you will need to implement. The DG broker automate failover. It will be the observer who "sees" (where its name) that the principal is down and initiate the failover process. To do this, the observer will use the DG broker, so it will be necessary.

You'll want to read on the QuickStart failover. http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/articles/smiley-fsfo-084973.html

    (d) given that I have only 2 physical servers, can I deploy broker Dataguard on a normal PC (since it is a thin client) assuming the PC is kept in the data center and is online 24/7?

The DG broker is required to run on the database server. The DG broker will run on the primary and standby. I think that what you're asking really anything is if the observer can run on a PC. Yes it can. However, it is probably not a good idea. A PC will not have the internal hardware redundancy, a server can have. If the PC can fail more often than to a server. And if the gods are bad, it will fail when you most need.

    (e) I was reading about the modes of Protection, account required to our current scenario & infrastructure, I choose 'Maximum availability Mode' instead of 'maximum Performance '.

Your choice should depend on the amount of data loss is acceptable.

    (f) what is your point of view about Oracle integrated security? I hear too much on Oracle failsafe, because people generally go to a combination of CARS & dataguard for HA? We have a few additional storage that can be shared between the two servers, but I feel with literally no DG network latency can provide us HA.

Oracle integrated security only works on Windows with a MS Failover Cluster. Real DBAs do not have Oracle on MSFC.

    See you soon,.

  • Stop listener as part of the transition to the DataGuard?

I have a database of primary and Standby, configured with DataGuard. A third server runs the process of observation to monitor from the database when the principal becomes unavailable. It all works and we are happy with it from the point of the DB of the things. The database version is 11.2.0.4 running on RedHat 6.4

The demand side, we use WebLogic and have set up the connection string of JDBC using the following format:

    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(FAILOVER=ON)(LOAD_BALANCE=OFF)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=production-db-a)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=production-db-b)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=abc)))

When the primary database server is stopped, then the observer notices and will be a change occurs and just continues to work.

However, what's happened is that there are delays in network that caused the observer make the pass on the eve (production-db-b) and makes it the main. What is expected (except for wait times of network that is under review). Finally, the network problem disappeared and the original primary server (production-db-a) is back on the network and he opted to be a watch. So far so good. If all goes well on the side of the things database. However, on the side of the demand of the things, the application attempts to connect to production-db-a, since it is now available again, but service is on production-db-b because he has fallen.

If we move off the coast of the production-db-a listener, then all is good again. We have configured listeners, LISTENER to database service and LISTENER_DGMGRL for dataguard that runs on port 1522. So just stop LISTENER while LISTENER_DGMGRL running on production-db-a seems to fix the problem.

The question is now, peut LISTENER stop automatically DataGuard during the passage of the day before and started for the primary, or is there another solution for this problem?

Your tnsnames.ora connection string refers to

    (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = abc))

What is the deault for the database service? If so, do not use it. On the contrary, create another service with and start it by calling DBMS_SERVICE. START_SERVICE in a trigger to start (or after triggering change in role) which checks if the database is currently a primary or secondary.

    Hello

I'm new to the dataguard configuration, and recently, I connected on a dataguard configuration to test the object.

I have deleted stupidely some archive my primary database logs, thereby breaking the standby update (due to the fact that the database has not been started for a long time, the gap is now about 130 days ).

  • OEM and dataguard

    Hi all

    11.2.0.1

We have existing database of PROD with installed OEM (generic local).

If I configure dataguard physical standby for her, he will also replicate the OEM to the physical expectations? or I need to reinstall on it?

    Thank you all,

    pK

    Hi pK,.

It is not possible to monitor and administer a basic physical or logical standby, IE using Enterprise Manager Database Control Data Guard.  This is mainly due to the fact that Database Control is designed to monitor the 1-database and an environment Data Guard, by definition, includes more than 1 database.

If you attempt to run emca against a database of pending, you will get an error such as ORA-01219: database is not open.

Of course, database Control, can be used to monitor the current main database (with no capacity to administer or control Data Guard related features).  In such a case, failover Database Control needs to be reconfigured to run on the new primary database using the commands described in detail in Note 278100.1 how to remove, create and recreate DB Control In A Database, section c. recreate/ReConfig DB control, Option 2 10 g. recreate the control DB Configuration files and repository.

Enterprise Manager Grid Control or EM 12 c Cloud Control provides the functionality for visualization, monitoring and administration of primary databases and standby in a Data Guard configuration.

  • Passage of Oracle Dataguard and DNS

Hi, a few days ago, we planned a passage in a configuration of 10g dataguard (dataguard pasive) between the 2 servers.

    primary: Europe.com APP

    secondary: APP1 in Asia.com

The two databases was Oracle 10.2.0.3 in Redhat (single instance)

Everything is going well with databases and the digital switchover but what happened with the web-based applications?

I have a lot of web PHP applicattion provided with a string of connection with OIC and oracle customer, all have the connection as user/pass@dbname where dbname is defined in the local tnsnames.ora with DNS host names.

(All have xxx/xxx@APP), and was APP (host:europe.com and SID = APP)

    Europe.com was ip 1.1.1.1

    Asia.com has been ip 2.2.2.2

My primary instance was APP (name sid) and the standby APP1 (name sid) but what happened when I pass the dataguard?

Yes, because we have a lot of requests and we don t change the connection string, each of them tries to connect to the new basis of Eve physics APP which is in Europe.com. (and the main news is APP1 in Asia.com)

Well, first of all, I must change the SID in the database (same as the primary database) waiting for the connection string, for which I have: (thus development are don't want to change the string of connection...)

    (1) immediate stop aid database

    (2) remove the dataguard broker configuration,

    (3) change the instance name in the spfile APP1 to APP.

    (4) change the name of db in the spfile APP1 to APP.

    (5) change the setting fal_client (INSTANCE_NAME = APP1) to (INSTANCE_NAME = APP)

    (6) change the app APP1 orapwd file

    (7) Exchange configuration bash_profile APP and re start the database pending.

    (8) check the listener.ora, so that the new listening service is APP and no APP1

    (8) with respect to the dataguard broker configuration config

OK, everything works very well and we have the main and the database pending with the same SID.

But what happened with the dns servers? because the web-based applications will try to connect to APP but APP has been defined as Europe.com and I want to redirect Asia.com as primary database.

Well, first of all, I changed all my settings and broker dataguard over IP and not dns configuration files, so I made a guide to procedure for the passage to the then when we said that, first we must transition to digital, data bases and then the surface NET must change the DNS for new Europe.com dns point to 2.2.2.2 ip

    After that, everything works great!

So in conclusion, to forward a permutation with dataguard (which was an excellent feature) check the connection of the chain of applications and take care of them) and if necessary, use the same SID for the two (databases) and emergency

(In Oracle 12 c, we have a lot of thing to use as a continuation of the app for that)

    Kind regards

    Hernan

    Hi Herman,.

Maybe I'm mistaken, please correct me if this is the case.

Assuming you are using oracle customer why not just use the construction in the mechanism for this purpose? DNS has nothing to do with it, but I see people using it yet for this - it is not only suitable for failovers, I do not have my TTL of 60 seconds or less to my recordings of A.

I had a project for banking HA where after permutation is launched the application (Tomcat) could in a minute to connect automatically to the database of watch on the Internet. First, you must use the database instead of SID service, so you can have the same service on the previous day. What more have a service, you can be sure that it will run the day before until it becomes primary, otherwise you can find yourself in a funny situation. Secondly, why not using built in failover of the connection string parameter, this way you can queue db (s) and in the case where your primary does not that the oracle client will simply try to connect to the waiting (to search for the same service). To ensure that the standby database does not have the service at any time, you can deploy trigger (AFTER startup) to check the role of database, if it is 'primary' it starts just the database service.

  • Using DataGuard PeopleSoft Application.

We are interested in establishing a physical environment DataGuard off load queries, failover, off the coast of site disaster recovery.  Our primary database supports a Peoplesoft Application and this forum works on HP - UX on itanium enough new material.  I would like to be able to configure our DataGuard environment on x 86 hardware running windows.  My Peoplesoft, people tell me it will work because Peoplesoft has so many patches specifically associated with HP - UX and itanium and complexity to fail on and off these queries to a Win x 86 loading environment not and have all play nice would be more trouble that it's worth.

I guess that 2 or 3 years from now we will migrate out of HP - UX and itanium, Linux or Windows on x 86.  I don't see raise another environment for HP - UX itanium to support this.

I guess my question is just to get a second opinion on the feasibility of executing Dataguard and Peoplesoft in this type of mixed environment.

    I would check

NOTE 413484.1 - DataGuard heterogeneous Standby primary and physical in the same Configuration of protection of data in favour
