DC7800 SFF XP Pro SP2 - SP3 upgrade?

Hi all. I recently rebuilt several "wiped" DC7800 SFF computers using restore disks. They are now running Win XP Pro SP2. Should I update to SP3 and if so, can I use the standard Microsoft SP3 download or is there a specific HP? Thank you.

I just did a recovery on a company dc7800 PC yesterday at a customer site. I recommend that you leave to SP2. There are a few security updates Microsoft Update will recommend that you apply if you do not apply SP3. Apply the security updates. The reason why I made this recommendation is to avoid drivers and BIOS problems.

There is no specific Microsoft Windows SP3 Pro update for the dc7800 provided by HP.

There is a sticker that shows the product key. But I think it's the product key of Windows XP SP2. I want to know that can I download XP SP3 and use this product key to reinstall the OS? Am I wrong?

Please explain in detail what to do after I downloaded the OS? I want to download on another computer. How to make a CD so that I can install windows via a CD?

Probably, your laptop has a depression recovery accessible by the F key or modified mechanism F (for example Ctrl) key at boot time. To learn more about this we need the details of your laptop (brand and model). You can find this documented somewhere in the start menu or in a booklet that came with the laptop.

In addition, there are probably a facility to create your own recovery CD/DVDs. Again, look in the start menu and in any document paper. If this facility exists, you should do so as soon as possible because it's your only method of recovery in case of hard drive failure.

Otherwise recovery integrated and/or the creation of recovery media, you will need to contact the manufacturer for recovery media.

You can download a standalone SP3 Installer of...

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=24

.. .This is only a service pack installation, not a full installer of XP operating system. You can ignore the text which says that it is for network installations and also ignore the text informing Windows/Microsoft Update If a single update of a PC. You will not request a product key.

Indeed you will need this installer of SP3 update of the OS until Windows Update will be operational. Install it before even to try Windows Update.

Recovery of the manufacturer would not normally require the entry of the product key of your sticker. But if this is the case, the key on the sticker is good for recovery and updates including SP3.

After recovery, you must uninstall any AV solution came pre-installed, do the SP3 upgrade without being connected to the internet and then install Microsoft Security Essentials for which a standalone installer can be downloaded here, for example...

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=5201

    .. .or here...

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Security-Essentials-download

Then you can connect to the internet and download MSE (or alternative AV) updates and Windows updates.

A standalone IE8 installation program can be downloaded here...

  • Installation of XP Pro SP2 SP3 OEM details. From the CD, F8 is not recognized.

Previous computer motherboard died as a result of a failure of the fan on the video card.  New computer new hard drive loaded with an OEM version of XP Pro and SP3 by the provider, who a few days later turned out be blocked by Microsoft.  After reading the related KB articles and remove IE8, tried to reinstal using the method of KB978788 1 (boot from CD).  Many worked until acceptance of the EULA - F8 does not work.  The last time I had this problem, I had Flash the BIOS (three machines different wer hit), but this should not really be happenning on a new machine.  Appreciate any feedback.

    John

I left aside a few steps above - method 1 is running the installation with current CD running, which has no messages on the new version and advised me to install XP boot from CD.  The question of F8 took place during this process.

1, some PC does not recognize the keyboard USB in MS-DOS, only a PS/2 connection

works, also chk the BIOS for USB settings... In addition, you need to uninstall IE8 & WMP 11

or 10, before reinstalling xp (repair).

Whatever it is, get the keyboard the problem solved, then set the BIOS to have cdrom with installed xp cd

as 1st boot device, 2nd hd.

Also, you're better off formatting the hd installed xp (new installation), then w/o this option,.

XP maybe still problems, resulting in one other xp install...

Can I upgrade xp pro sp2 or 3 to windows 7 without losing my data? I have all versions of software microsoft ever made including all old dos programs. There will should be ashamed of yourself not to do all versions of upgrade to windows 7 without losing data or programs. I have all your programs and all of them are legal and regged. I want to improve my xp and my pc vista to windows 7. There will have screwed the American public and I don't appreciate not being not able to be upgraded to win 7 without losing anything.

If you have another partition, you can install Win7 on it. And have a dual boot

But if you don't have a spare partition you have (or will be at) do a clean install. Which means format and reinstall Win7

  • How can I use my valid product key XP Pro SP2 with my drive OEM XP Pro SP3 and still meet the requirements of Microsoft Genuine?

I had to wipe my hard drive due to a battle lost by a virus. My installation of XP Pro SP2 disk disappeared, so I used my XP Pro SP3 OEM disc to install Windows. When I used my valid product key XP Pro SP2 I was shocked to receive an invalid product key. I always ran Microsoft Genuine product and would like to know how to reach a genine advantage accreditation with my present prediciment. Any help would be appreciated and we thank you in advance.

    Hi KevinDitner,

I'm afraid, but you can't do that. Your product key Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) should be used only for the laptop which came with it.

You can get the CD of Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (SP2) by contacting the Support team customer Microsoft.

I just updated the operating system (win xp) family for win xp pro sp2 on a satellite L20 - 197 and I realized that I have no CD or drivers or the laptop. The following are marked with problems in hardware devices (Panel): Audio controller, modem PCI controller SM Bus controller and video controller.
Anyone know what to do or where I can find these drivers?

What I found on the Toshiba site has not helped me. Really, I installed win XP pro sp2 several times, but I never have problems with the driver. Can someone tell me where I can find the driver for all devices on the internet of this?
    Thank you very much.

    Hello Volker

The driver for Windows XP Home edition Professional and family are absolutely identical. All the drivers you can find on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp, you can use but please install them in the correct order.

Pleas it follow this document http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/Satellite/sl20/win-xp/install-xp-na-en.zip

  • Installation of XP pro sp2 stalls to the file teamw.exe then ks.exe and many others.

I'm trying to re - install XP pro SP2 after a virus attack.  I did a full format on my WD 160 GB hard drive.  Serial ATA Mothboard Biostar G31 - M7 TE with the most recent BIOS.  Generally, installation hangs when you attempt to load the file "teamw.exe" the file depending on whether he's looking for is ks.exe there are twenty others subsequently that it cannot find.  I tried another disc with SP2.  The same problem.  I joined my current version to SP3 with the same result.  Thought it might be a hard drive problem.  A ran the WD disk checker rescuer in the BACK.  No problems found.  I don't think that is the motherboard related.  Would be - this somehow a hard drive problem?  No other equipment still installed.  It drives me crazy.  Thanks for your suggestions!

    Hi Indiana brand,

Whenever there is a problem with the Windows XP disc, we encounter this type of questions. We recommend trying the following steps and check the result.
    a. installation to launch Windows XP.
    b. when the file fails to copy, remove the disk from the CD drive and insert the other XP CD in the drive to see if the copy process continues successfully.
    c. If the installation continues, complete the installation.

If all else fails, contact the manufacturer of the system for more support options.

  • I am trying to load XP Pro SP2 as the key on the bottom of the system says xp pro. But during installation it says the key is invalid? How can I fix?

    Invalid product key?

I have an old laptop that I am donating to a charity.  I try to load XP Pro SP2 above, because the key on the bottom says xp pro.  But during installation it says the key is invalid?  How can I fix?

It is possible that you will need to a disk with SP3 slipstreamed in there - much SP3 keys are a new slice that has been issued and is not recognized by the previous discs.

Your machone specifies a level of SP? What is the brand / the exact model?

  • Windows XP Pro SP2 re - install does not accept the product key.

I'm trying to re - use the product key on the sticker from the bottom of the laptop.  This is the same computer that was working fine until I decided to reinstall, but I use a different installation media because the laptop (a refurb) never came with the media.  Can I call MS and get it re-authorized?  I have XP Pro SP2 and XP Pro SP3 Reacondicionador media.

You try to install Windows XP with OEM product key you have on your COA sticker. So be sure that you have a generic Windows XP OEM CD, because VLK or Retail CD does not accept the OEM product key.

  • Need a Windows XP Pro SP2 power management utility

Hello, recently I lowered my (preinstalled) HP 6820 s Vista Home to XP Pro SP2, to learn that XP isn't this nice power management utility that offered three options, for example, energy saving, optimized Mode, High Performance. So I'm currently looking for other freeware that need solutions, as it appears, that there is no official management utility XP of HP. I missed something, is there an official utility for XP and if it is not all the utilities, someone know any (preferably freeware) solutions to create profiles of power?

PS: How can I reduce brightness screen my laptop now? Unable to find the option anywhere...

    Thank you!
