Dead circuit 2 on Dell Powerconnect 5448

13. 24 (circuit 2) ports on my Dell Powerconnect 5448 died without lamps regardless of the connection. Is it possible to have the unit repaired or replaced circuit?

Thank you

SE C.

The switch has no easily replaceable parts on it. In this Youtube video, you get a glimpse of the inside of the switch and see that everything is everything on a single card.

http://bit.LY/1QeQ4O4

It sounds like a hardware problem, but you can try to reflash the firmware on the switch.

If the switch will exhibit this behavior, then it should be replaced.

  • Dell Powerconnect 5448 a reference on the vlan by default

    Hello

Just a question.  A Dell Powerconnect 5448 switch will act as a home if its interfaces are configured with 1 interface connection to a primary switch that has the interface is 'access to the interface mode' by default with a vlan?  It will work with all its switches on vlan interface of uplink or would you need to configure both as the trunks to allow access vlan to work and this switch uplink?

The 5448 is a layer 2 switch, which by default has a VLAN native of 1 with all interfaces in access mode for the native VLAN 1. On the VLAN native all frames are frames unmarked. So now that your uplink to the other switch port, all the info will be sent without label, which means the other switch will receive the unmarked data and then place it in the VLAN that is in access mode. Communication should work this way.

However, I think using a network connection between the switches. The trunk port is used to connect the devices up-to-date with the switches / VLAN together and allow several VLAN tagged fell on it. Looks like you already have several VLANs on the network, and having a network connection will allow you to expand on it. At the same time everything that is on the VLAN native is always through the trunk to the other switch and will stay on the VLAN native.

  • Change of address IP PowerConnect 5448

Ive got 2 x Dell PowerConnect 5448 and set an ip address on VLAN1 [I think!], so that I can access the web interface. Im trying to change this ip address, now but cant seem to do this through the web interface, Ive also tried to use CLI but cannot find where it is configured. Ive looked in the settings of VLAN and ip settings in the CLI but cant for the life of change me the ip address. In the web interface, I tried assign another ip to the vlan1 but I get an error message means that you can define only a single ip address per vlan. Anyone know how change the ip address through the web interface or by using the CLI?

I also want to create a vlan port base to 1-5 on the switch ports. Am I right to assume that by default, all ports on the switch belong to the vlan1 and I would need to create a vlan2 for ports 1 to 5?

  • Problem with routing/circuits between SG300-10 and Dell Powerconnect 5224

    Hello

I just bought a SG300-10 switch and loaded new firmware 1.27 on it.  Configure my VLAN and trunks, but I have a weird problem that I can't seem to understand.  It may be something small, I'm missing, but no matter, I have been scratching at it all day and I kicked in the butt.  If anyone can point me in the right direction or maybe something that someone see in my config which is wrong, I can get the terminology/theory wrong, after all, I just spent my CCNA :)

    My configuration:

I have the SG300-10 as my switch and changed over to L3, so it may be my core of my small network.  On port 1, vlan 200 is configured as my unidentified native PVID and I put it to 210(LAN network) to trunk VLANs, 220 (management vlan) on the tag to the Dell powerconnect 5224 24port switch.  On port 1 of the Dell switch, I install as a trunk it as well with the same configuration (vlan native of PVID unidentified 200, 210 and 220 tag trunking).

I have installed virtual interfaces on the SG300 for each VLAN (vlan 210 = 192.168.210.1/24, vlan 220 = 192.168.220.1/24) and on the Dell, since this is a feature of L2, I changed the vlan 1 to 220 management and assign the IP 192.168.220.2/24.

Now, since the SG300 web interface, I ping IP management Dell (192.168.220.2/24)successfully and vice versa, can ping from Dell web interface to one of the IP of the bridge VLAN (210.1 & 220.1) successfully so that test, to me, looks like the Dell communicates with the SG300.)  I also have the default gateway of the Dell 192.168.220.1 printer value.

    Server IP: 192.168.220.10/24

    Workstation IP: 192.168.210.80/24

    Now the dilemma:

I have a server plugged into switch port Dell 2 (configured as 'hybrid' because there is no option to access, value 220 PVID, vlan, worth 220 Untagged) and from the server, I can ping IP management dell very well switch and can ping the IP of the gateway of great SG300 so.  On the SG300 switch, on port 2, I plugged in a workstation (configuration is in access mode, vlan 210 unidentified) who can not ping the server plugged into the dell switch.  The workstation, I can ping all the SG300 interfaces and also the IP management dell but I can't ping the server.

Any ideas anyone can provide is much appreciated!

    Edition of VLAN.

Lenell, thank you for the call tonight. It seems that we have found the problem. The SIN, although it is configured with a default gateway, the gateway that brings 0.0.0.0. We also checked the NAS works from the same subnet to connect but fails outside of the subnet. Conversely, we checked 2 computers have no problem to connect through the VLAN level 3.

I hope we got the right direction.

  • Need help to configure the VLAN on a powerconnect 5448

    Hello world

I am currently working on 2 switches PowerConnect 5448 but I'm completely lost in configuring VLAN.

    My bow:

    My needs are:

-J' have 2 different networks that need to be isolated in different VLANS

-I want to port 11-14 to use for network backup, all others must be used for the production network.

-This 2 networks must pass through the port 48 (fiber)

How can I configure this kind of network on the powerconnect interface (or via telnet)?

My understood are the following, I have to create 2 different VLAN tag all ports, switch to safe mode all ports of the entitlement each port to the VLAN voted. Am I wrong?

    How the fiber port?

Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

Since your 2 VLAN need not communicate with each other, you should be able to get this working.

The easiest way to do this would be to have your production on VLAN 1 and VLAN 2 second network.

Assign an IP address to the switch with the command IP #.

Assign a default gateway with the # ip default-gateway command.

    Create a VLAN 2:

    Database console (config) # vlan

    Console (config - vlan) # vlan 2

Set 11-14 ports to access the mode for VLAN 2

    Console # switchport mode access

Console # switchport access vlan 2

Set 48 on trunk or general mode ports.

    Console # switchport mode Trunk

console # permit trunk switchport vlan add 2

You should get pretty close to a work environment. You may encounter some problem with VLAN 2 contacting 192.168.1.0, maybe just need to put it up and test.

  • Vs LACP LAG between two PowerConnect 5448 s

    Hi all.

Just got a switch configuration quad for our infrastructure EqualLogic SAN using PowerConnect 5448 s.  One thing I never did before her configuration of aggregation of links.

If I wanted to set up an aggregate of 4-port connection between two switches, say on ports 1 to 4, and our iSCSI VLANS is 1000, the below will work?

    serial interface ethernet g(1-4)

    channel-group mode 1 on

    interface port-channel 1

    switchport general

    switchport General pvid 1000

I've seen documentation on how to get the ports-working channels between a 5000 or 6000 switch and a Cisco Catalyst switch, but not just any what docs on how to connect two switches PowerConnect.  The doc of interoperability for Cisco <->Dell seems to want to use LACP on the side of Dell.  I wonder, should I configure and link LACP on the two 5448 aggregate s I have are running?

Thanks for in advance for any advice or assistance!

  • Connection SAN Dell PowerConnect 6248

Our switch in our network is the Dell PowerConnect 6248. This switch has a SFP module.

I was wondering if I could use this module to connect my SAN [activeRAID 32 TB of storage active destocking] and have access to the storage as a network or NAS drive Bay.

To be more precise I'll be plugging the controller [HBA] San to the SFP module on the 624 of Dell PC via a cable Fibre Channel LC.

I'm new to SAN configuration and look for the best solution to access the storage on my network.

Everyone has implemented a San with the SFP Module before; If that set up your look like?

Fibre channel and ethernet/IP are not compatible protocols without another device that can translate. The 6248 has no support for FCoE. There are switches that support both they are called network switches convergent or unified, although generally the traffic is still separated.

  • Dell PowerConnect 2724 managed Mode reference works do not?

I recently acquired a dell powerconnect 2724 from a friend, and I can't find the web interface. I tried the default IP addresses and I looked on an application to register all IP addresses on the network, and the thing only dell was my PowerEdge R710. I made sure it was in managed mode and I tried to reset it. Suggestions?

From the factory, the PowerConnect 2708/2716/2724 units have a default IP 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0 assigned. This IP address is assigned to the management VLAN 1. Be sure not to delete the VLAN 1 management or you will not be able to manage the switch. If the switch is unmanageable, and then change the transition to unmanaged and return to managed mode to reset the default settings.

Remember that the client attempts to access the switch is also in the 192.168.2.0 subnet. If the customer is not in the same subnet, it will be able to access the 192.168.2.1 IP address. Check and make sure that nothing else on the network also has 192.168.2.1 assigned.

    Keep us informed.

  • Difference between Dell Powerconnect N4032F and 8132F

    Hello!

In the last days, the Dell PowerConnect 8100 disappeared from the Dell Web site and now, the M4000 series with the same characteristics are presented.

It's just a change of name or these devices differ in some way? The M4000 firmwares is usable on 8100 switches in the future?

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    Stril

Dell PowerConnect N4000 switches series both Dell Networking PC8100 series share the same version of the firmware of the image (for example, N4000v6.1.0.1.stk). The Dell Networking N4000 series switches can be stacked with switches Dell Networking PC8100 of the series with any battery necessary for the performance of 6.0.0.8 or later firmware (6.1.0.1). Dell Networking PC8100 switches can support the firmware both 5.x and 6.x versions, but Dell Networking N4000 can support only the 6.0.0.8 and later versions of firmware (6.1.0.1)

    I hope this helps.

  • Reference Dell PowerConnect 2848 OID for CPU time and memory

    Hi all

This is my first post in this forum. I searched all the messages that can solve my problems, but I could not find so if there is already an existing post and I couldn't find it please guide me to it.

My case is. We have a few Dell PowerConnect 28xx switches in our network. We want to monitor things like the CPU, the temperature, the use of the RAM usage. We use Solarwinds IpMonitor monitoring tool. I downloaded the MIB, I could find the download of Firmware from Dell drivers and downloads page. I went through the entire MIB, but I couldn't find an OID for the foregoing.

So if anyone can help me please what OID is used for usage of CPU and RAM temperature it will really help me.

Please let us know in case we need more information on my side.

  • PowerConnect 5448 Port lights flash up to 10 times per second in unison

The ports on our PowerConnect 5448 switch lights flash very quickly in unison.  We use this switch to an office network.  No servers or computers are available on the network.  We believe that this was due to a power failure which resulted in a failure with our internet connection.  We have restored power to the modem and restarted the firewall because it was out.  Then, we noticed the lights on the switch.  We have manually operated switch PC 5448 and then turned it back.  The switch always shows the same problem.  We can connect directly to a modem, so we know that we have internet.  It seems that something is wrong with the switch because of the flashing lights of port.

In addition, the admin user and the password to connect to the switch are lost, so we cannot see what is happening.

There is a port of the console to the back of the switch. Connect to the port console and you will have access to the CLI. Once connected to the CLI it should give an idea of what's going on.

  • Reference Dell PowerConnect 3524 - "SW3P_callback_rx_frame - arp - scrapped intervention."

    Hello everyone.

The company I work for, I test switches to see who is good and who is bad. I've already marked the switch in question as 'bad' for these mistakes - but I've never seen this error before. My colleagues have not either. Therefore, I ask the community what kind of error is what it means and whether it is potentially fixable.

My device is a Dell PowerConnect 3524. He is currently out of warranty.

What I did: I have deleted the startup configuration and then run the Setup Wizard. I put an IP address, gateway, and password. The rest, I left the default values. This configuration works on all switches that I have ever tested, including this model, so I think that this configuration is not serious.

Then I plug in an ethernet cable in all ports and the other end into a very small 5 port switch that also has other trendy items above, the phone and my main computer. They all get internet, I don't think that there is a problem.

I plug another cable in another port of the switch and the other end in a laptop sitting on top of the switch (my laptop test).

I start ping the local firewall and run it with the "-t" parameter so it does not stop.

It is fine for about 5-10 minutes usually. I can trade ports and others and she'll pick up ping soon and do what it is supposed to. After plugging into the wrong port, (7 or 8), I get the error "SW3P_callback_rx_frame - intervention arp - put the scrapped." and cannot pass traffic. PuTTY shows that the connection is established and transfer, but the ping is not possible.

I am only an intern, this switch is not vital and will be sent to the "cemetery" and all my business done with switches will be. I am just curious to know what it is. Anyone know what it is and what could be done to solve the problem?

    Thank you for your time!

I couldn't find any relevant information on this error message. With errors that occur only on specific ports and a new configuration, it really sounds as a kind of material error. Will there be another message that accompany this message? If you haven't already done so, re-flashing the firmware of the switch can help ensure that the message is not caused by an image that has become corrupt.

If so, how can verify us that the ports are active?

  • Reference Dell PowerConnect 2824 remove connections, odd led models

    Hello

We are noticed on some of our Dell PowerConnect 2824 switches that our devices are connected to the switch suddenly disconnected.  Our devices are a network of small size with the switch, where we connect up to 12 devices and use DHCP to assign IP addresses to the devices.  We also monitor the network with a Windows laptop.  We have also seen times where the switch itself seems to be restarted and shows amber LED light up successively from left to right on the top row of ports, then return on the bottom row.  I confirmed that we use version 1.0.0.45 software for the switch in question.

We have also seen situations where all, except one device remains connected, but when trying to reconnect to the device has fallen, it seems that the switch seems to completely ignore the device regardless of the port where we connect to the switch.  We tried other cables, but the problem persists.  It's the kind of behavior that I could wait if the MAC addresses are not unique, but all of our devices have all custom MAC addresses.

Another issue is that we use a very short lease period of one minute.  I don't know if this will get us in trouble.

If you need more specific information, I'll try to answer your questions.

    Thank you.

    Bob

    Hi Bob,

If it happens on several switches it is probably not a problem with the hardware switch. It could be a matter of Spanning Tree where it lacks a Hello and due to the lease really short DHCP is originally from the port to close before it can restore a link. You can try to turn STP or enabling quick link on the ports for end devices.

Why do you have the DHCP lease on so little time for only 12 aircraft? It would add a lot of network traffic. You can try and have some machines on static IP and see if it still falls these ports.
