Debugging on a live device

Hi all

I tried to connect the jde to my Blackberry to debug an exception I get in the device, but the "Debug-attach to the-> Pocket option" will not appear pin of the device even if the device is connected through the usb cable and is detected by the blackberry Device Manager. Here are a few specfics on the scenerio:

1 device: 8900 4.6.1.114 running o/s.

2 JDE used for debugging - 4.6.1.23

3 JDE used to build the application 4.2.1.14 (I tried to use this JDE too to debug the application with no luck)

4 desktop/device management (5.0.1.18) - the most recent available on the site official blackberry

The exception is not replicated in other devices / in any Simulator so I really need to get this work of debugging. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I solved the problem.

For anyone with a similar problem in the future, you must have the same version of software of office as th o/s version installed in the device for debugging the device to work.

Then, install the device/desktop software 4.6 did the trick for me.

    Hello

I just spent ages trying to debug my application on a live device. I followed the instructions found here...

    http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/T5/Java-development/debug-an-application-running-on-a-live-black...

and for my simple application, it worked perfectly. For my other application the debugger kept giving me error message selected device is more noted.

    After * a * a lot of research I came across this...

    http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/T5/testing-and-deployment/Eclipse-pluging-1-1-quot-debug-as-BLAC...

that seems to be exactly the problem I had. So I deleted my app of the device (and libraries), and debugging then worked perfectly.

Then why post? Nowhere, until I found this last post has read that the Eclipse plug in automatically to download the apps in the device. In fact, their download before trying to debug, it was what was causing the problem.

First of all, it update of documents relating to the latest version of the plug Eclipse? Several times I have come off due to a "significant improvement" in the latest version of Eclipse that is not documented anywhere.

    I found these...

but there is nothing in here, I could find on the debugging on a live device for example.

Back to the debugging problem, now I have to clear a couple of my libraries before I want to debug. Even deleting causes them a reboot of the device. Is there anyway that I can stop a reboot occur when an application update/deletion?

Finally, how is it only certain applications requiring a restart and not others?

  • Debugging application on the device

    Hi people,

I have 3 Questions for you:

I have a weird on my application error, when I run it on the device of BB, but it's not when I do it on the emulator, I try debugging on the device (right click on the tree to approx. eclipse-> Debug as-> Blackberry device) then I get an error message indicating that the application must be signed.

    (1) I need I sign the application before debugging on the device?

    (2) I will pay the fees for signature keys. These keys are useful for all classes, signed? I mean, when I get the keys can I use any class signed?

    (3) which means that the PIN on the signed registration key?

    Thank you.

    Bruno.

Yes, your application must be signed for debugging on the device.

When you get the keys, you can use them to sign all your apps BB, as many times as you want.  Yes, they are good for all classes.

The PIN in the registration form is a number YOU provide - make sure you save the number one safe place, that you will need when you get the key in order to activate them.

  • debugging on the actual device different subversions jde - firmware

I want to debug my code on a device connected via usb. I know that I need the same type in JDE and the device.

For example, JDE 4.5-> device must have firmware 4.5.

Although I checked the debugger tells me it can't find net_rim_app_manager.debug and many others. When I browse with browse for the files of simulator of the JDE debug files it is not like that and told me

    Bad debug information: \simulator\net_rim_app_manager.debug(4846a5e2)-net_rim_app_manager(494996a0)

My regognizes JDE-attachment-device usb. When I ignore the mistakes I see some, but not all of the messages in the debug window. If the connection is ok.

My firmware installed JDE Simulator Version DO match the firmwareversion of the unit BUT not the firmware-sub-version number. I mean the numbers after the second point (4.5.XXXX) is the reason for the error message?

    If Yes,

-How and where can I get the EXACT match firmware-subversion for my device?

-How can I do a real device debugging with the latest firmware?

If none, I miss something else?

    my JDE:4.5.0

    my camera - 4.5.0.Simulator - JDE: 8310

    my JDE - 4.5.0.Simulator - Firmware: 4.5.0.44

    my real device: 8310

    my real device Firmware: 4.5.0.124

    Thanks for help

OK, after some research and debugging, I found the solution in this post

    http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/Rim/Board/message?board.ID=java_dev&message.ID=3769&query.ID=266...

a little summary here (including the above mentioned display comments). In this example, we assume that you are using JDE 4.5.0.

    • Check that you have installed the latest BlackBerry-Desktop-Manager. So you can be sure, that your device connected by usb is detected
    • Versions have to mach exactly! When you have the 4.5.0.102 firmware on your JDE-Simulator, you MUST have firmware on your real device 4.5.0.102. RIM provides many different simulators with a different firmware for debugging http://www.blackberry.com/developers/downloads/simulators
    • Install the corresponding correct Simulator and follow the Instructions of BB JDE 4.5.0 Guide Chapter development
      "Install the .debug computer files".
    • Connect your real device via USB
    • Compile your code in RIM JDE
    • If you use sensitive APIs-> sign your code
    • Load the cod files compiled on your actual device with JavaLoader.exe
    • Debugging-> attached to him-> Pocket-> USB ()
    • No, you can debug, breakpoints, out of the console, etc...

Note: Although I have installed now the exact match versions. The debugger tells some files that it "does not find" them which is:

    net_rim_theme_120_green_320x240_b.debugnet_rim_theme_120_green_320x240_b-(1-13).debug

    net_rim_theme_120_today_320x240_b.debug net_rim_theme_120_today_320x240_b-(1-13).debug

    net_rim_bb_smime.debug

I think that these debug files are relatively large for most applications, so you can ignore it.

A good indicator to see that there is really a version mismatch is the first file, it cannot find "net_rim_app_manager.debug".

  • Push the message undeliverable to the live Device - Simulator (Eclipse) works

My app works great on different simulators, receive messages from my server (all on localhost). However, I can't make it work when I plug in my phone via USB. I select my phone in the list of Blackberry devices and then installs the application, starts the listener in the background and I can open the user interface. Messages are delivered to the MDS, but they then fail with the message:

PushServlet: FAILURE - cannot map device XXXXX a host to the PDAP.

I tried to add my device Simulator "rimpublic.property" section, but that didn't work either: I think that it comes to queue messages.

    Any advice?

    Thank you

    Karl

I found the answer. It is the combination of two things:

    (1) I had to use 'ApplicationManager.getApplicationManager () .inStartup ()' to delay my code from running until the aircraft was ready.

    (2) I tried to debug using my direct phone with an SDM server on my laptop (localhost). I never had this work, but once I opted for the reality of the BES server, the debugger kicks and everything worked as expected.

  • Unable to create a debugging for my playbook device token

    Hi all

I have a problem to create a debugging token to install on my playbook.

    * I installed the SDK for a long time (before the playbook was here), when I installed first of all, there was no debugging token / COMINCO files

    * Then I received my COMINCO file by mail, but has not used as I was more accustomed to using the Simulator.

    * I have since released an Android application.

I have some barsigners files in the folder "C:\Users\MY_NAME\AppData\Local\Research In Motion". I think that they were created when I published the Android app.

So now when I try to create a token of debugging with this command:

    BlackBerry-debugtokenrequest - storepass XXX - XXX c:\temp\debugtoken.bar devicepin

    And I have this error:

Error: The signature on the request of code signing did not check. The probable cause of this problem is entered a wrong password CSK.

My store is correct (I have another error if I intentionally use a wrong password).

Can this be my PBDT.csk file that is not registered?

    How can I change this?

    Thanks for any help,

I need it because I now have a bug that does not intervene in the ripple or on the simulator of the tablet.

OK, the different password for the developer certificate (p12) and RIM Code signing key would cause problems here.  Rename your author.p12 to something else and create a new p12 with the same password as your Code RIM signing keys.  Do not delete the barsigner files or you will not be able to sign the upgrades of your applications.  This command will allow you to create a new file p12.

  • The screen on the Simulator, but not on the device loads

    Hi all

This issue is driving me crazy.

The problem: I added a menu item in the email application. When the user clicks on the menu, I load a pop-up screen and get the entry user, then save it. This works quite well on my Simulator (8310 v4.5). But when I load in my camera (8310 v4.5), is not.

I can't understand where is the problem. Your entries please.

Note: I checked with the record menu item. I added a warning msg before loading of the screen. The alert is displayed, while the screen does not load. (The screen is a separate category in the same menuitem file, I have class instantiaite inside the application menuitem run() method).

The previous post suggested using the logger.  I think it's a very good idea.  If you code captured communication Details of the treatment he has been through and when it failed, you would be able to see it on the device.  In addition, you get a similar to an application log file and then the user information could send to you.  Debugging on the device is always difficult, especially when your device is miles away and in the hands of a user, so think about debugging when writing your code, and to provide mechanisms such as this are very useful.

I really need to debug on the device, because Im developing an application that uses the connection to the wireless network and the Simulator does not support (I read on several forums).

This is normal behavior because it is the output of the virtual machine JAVA re - Act to press key and the output of debug information.

So now, you can run your application (most likely in the downloads, if that's where you installed it).

Debugging a live device is not the same as the debug in the Simulator, you must sign and install your application manually before your departure by a live debugging on the device.

  • Question: How to avoid the pop-up "Welcome to the Windows Live (tm) Device Manager download"?

I also use many Office Communicator 2007 and Live Messenger and Live Photo Gallery. My PC (Win XP SP2) office also has a LX-3000 headset and a webcam VX-6000, both are for use with Office Communicator.
Since a recent update, whenever I connect a device, a "Welcome to the Windows Live (tm) Device Manager download" window asking me to download Windows Live Device Manager.
However, on this desktop PC, I don't want that to be installed. Also, since the shape a previous download, I learned that this device manager does not recognize Office Communicator; It assumes that Live Messenger.
How can I stop this pop up on my desktop PC?

    Hello Wytze_,

Thank you for your message.  Let's try turning off the pop-up.
If you have Windows Live Messenger 2009:
    1. click on tools, select Options
    2. click on the connection tab
    3. uncheck the show Windows Live today after I connect to mailbox
    For older versions:
    1. click on tools, select Options
    2. click on the general tab
    3. uncheck the show Windows Live today after I connect to mailbox
There were a few discussions where people indicated that they downloaded Device Manager but then turned off to avoid the messages.  As seen HERE.
If none of these suggestions help to solve the problem, you can visit the Windows Live related forum HERE.
    See you soon
