I wonder how can I fix? I tried it turn on and turn off, but the same problem persists.
It came with 8 Windows preinstalled thereforeI don't have the installation disk and I don't have access to the desktop
Any solution please?
I'll get you the link and restore your computer to a previous working state.
Please reply with the status.
Respected by all,
Could someone help me please with the problem. I can't access the windows at all. It has blue screen that says "FAILURE TO CONFIGURE updates SYSYTEM RESTORE CHANGES updated DO NOT turn OFF YOUR COMPUTER" pls help
You may need to stay on this screen for not more than one hour, if there are serious problems with Windows Update.
If you can always access your PC after waiting, turn off your PC. Then turn it on, immediately pressing F8 constantly. Once you get a black screen with options, select Safe Mode with the arrow keys and press enter on your keyboard.
Once Windows finishes loading of files, you can start in safe mode, where you should be able to log on normally. You will notice that the screen resolution has changed, and when you log in, you will see a black desktop computer. This lets you know that you are using safe mode. Once you log on, restart normally.
Kindly help me because I'm having this problem default configuration of the windows updates reverting changes do not turn off your computer. It may take a long time before he return to normal. I use windows 8. Assistance is very welcome.

- Computer: Lenovo N580
- Windows 8
- Reset my computer to factory reset
- All my files uploaded to the computer
- Launched about 120 windows updates
- Now, the computer is stuck on the blue screen with the message that seems to never go "failed windows update Setup. returning from changes. do not turn off your computer"I can't access the login screen or any screen to disable the windows update.
- I tried the solutions posted by other users with the same problem but without success.
- Please help me with a solution where I don't have a factory reset because I don't have another copy of all my files!
- Also, is there a way to access a safe mode on Windows 8? I tried F8 or SHIFT + F8 after starting, but nothing happens. I read a post online where Windows 8 have removed this feature. Is there another way?
- Help, please! I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!
- THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Welcome to the Microsoft community.
I understand that you are unable to install the Windows updates and receive an error message.
This must be due to the corrupted Windows Components update or conflict between third-party applications or external devices.
I suggest you perform the steps below in the Microsoft Help article:
"Configuration of the Windows updates failed. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer"error when you try to install Windows updates
1. When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

HelloI get this error "failed to configure windows updates. returning from changes. do not turn off your computer. The computer is a Samsung Ativ tab 5 and I got it for a little over a week.I have updated with the SW updateThe results of the troubleshooting online are:Problems encountered:Recent updates - not fixed installation problemsSearch for missing or corrupted - files detectedSome security settings are missing or have been modified - fixedRegistration for the service is missing or corrupt - fixedWindows Update error 0 x 80070490 (2014-02-10-t-11_25_11A) - fixedI have been through ALL the steps as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358. I have had no success. One thing that bothers me, is in the configuration of the system, I have a service called true vector Internet Monitor (Zone Alarm) and when the value disable as in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135, it is the only service still running when you perform a clean restart. I don't know if this affects the Automatic Updates/configuration or not.
HelloThanks for trying to help. Now my computer seems to be up-to-date.I followed your steps but MicrosoftFixit50202.msi did not like "my OS is incompatible. I use windows 8. I couldn't run this in default or aggressive.I did go in Control Panel and disable antivirus and firewall Zone Alarm and reset Windows defender by default.I did IE default web browser I have prob changed when I got to the computer.I then returned to set up a clean boot and this time I managed to disable the true vector Internet Monitor (Zone Alarm) to run.I ran the reset troubleshooting of Windows with the same result as before is to say:Recent updates - not fixed installation problemsSearch for missing or corrupted - files detectedI think I have restarted my computer at this stage and then tried to update again. It has not yet, but with the error, I got an error code and a link to help. I don't have not noticed this before. I followed the help and ran about 5 command prompts that have to do with the renaming of files I think. Then I tried updating again and this time 38 45 updates succeeded. I then ran the update again and it seemed to work on the other 7 updates.Although Windows Update said I was now updated, I was skeptical as when this whole thing started is started when I got the "windows installs updates" and then "failed to configure updates. Returning... etc"then I restarted my computer. At the start, there was no message on try to configure the updates, then, how do I know they are configured and working as it should?Thank you.

When you try to install Windows updates, you get the following error: configuration of the Windows updates failed. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer. I installed updates in my Windows 8.1 partition. Then he asked me to restart the computer, and the message "we could not finish updates, exchange loss, do not turn off your computer" appeared and was on-screen for hours. I thought to reinstall bootcamp but I have software in the Windows partition that cannot be recovered. I read that one of them starts Windows in 'Safe' Mode, but this is not possible. I use a MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inches, early 2015) OS X 10.10.5
How can I fix this without wiping the Windows partition and lose my software?
Have you created a Windows system restore point before the upgrade?
Original title: problems with updates
I tried to install windows updates since the store won't let me update to 8.1 otherwise, but I've been miserably lacking 4 days in a row now. Commissioning Windows Update in Control Panel or the charm of parameters found 133 available updates and informs me that they will install automatically. If I then try to install progress remains at "downloading 0 KB", after a while updates are shown as installation. When the installation is completed I'm prompted to restart my pc. After the reboot if I'm greeted by the "Failure configuring Windows updates" screen for about an hour, then I'm able to reconnect to the desktop computer. I've been searching the forums for similar problems looking for an answer and trying different solutions, such as:
Stop the update service then renaming or deleting the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. No positive results on this one.
Using SFC and DISM, first came up with my system is clean, the second did find and fix corrupt elements of store, but the problem persists.
Download the tool for troubleshooting Windows Update from Microsoft page, who reported finding and repairing problens with service, but again without success.
Reduce the installed updates at a time, in the instance that Windows can't handle most of the many updates at the same time. I tried this and it seemed to go well, but a strange point of interest that is so annoying is that several edits I checked are installing somehow, even if it is the only example that shows the number of updates being installed before restarting. Yet I always comes to the same conclusion. Failure of Windows updates the screen. What should I do?
Please update us with the State of the question. We apologize for the delay in responding
- You have a disk to install for Windows 8?
- Can you please explain what did you mean by update failed?
- Have you an error message when the update failed?
I propose to perform the refresh once more using the Installation of Windows 8 disc, but before to perform updating please follow the procedure below
Step 1: Repair of drive
One of the best ways that you can check the alteration in the hard is to run a check disk on this subject. Please follow the steps below to repair the disk using the disk check.
- Open This PC by hitting on any fly in the Dashboard screen, quilting Search (or if you use a mouse, pointing to the top right of the screen, move the mouse down and then clicking search), recording this PC in the search box, and then tapping or clicking on This PC.
- Press on and hold or click the drive that you want to repairand then tap or click Properties.
- Tap or click the Tools tab, and then, under error-checking, tap or click check. You may be prompted for an administrator password or to confirm your choice.
- Follow the instructions. You may have to restart your PC after that error checking is complete.
Important: when running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.
Step 2: command tool (DISM) deployment image Service and management.
By running this command, we can retrieve or modify information in an image. To run the DISM command, please follow the steps below:
- Go to the Windows Start menu.
- Type cmd on the keyboard.
- Right-click on the program from the command prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- The command prompt dialog box.
- Type the command Dism.exe / online/cleanup-image/Restore health and press ENTER.
- Wait for the command to run which can take about 30 minutes.
- After running the command, please try to make the backup of the system.
The above information was hoping to get useful, please return it to us if you need additional assistance.

Takes 5 minutes - start Message: Configuring Windows Update 0% complete do not turn off your computer. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit system, works fine, but I get this stupid message whenever I start.
How can I get rid of this stupid message and have a normal boot. This took place yesterday, and it's a real pain. How can I get rid of this.
I had this problem 2 days in a row. Windows 7 Edition Home Premium. "Automatic updates" not ended and I got the same message on restart and had to wait for it to timeout.
I tried "manually" update, and that fixed the problem.
Go to the control panel. Click on system and security. Click on Windows Update and follow the instructions. I selected the updates recommended, installed and rebooted. Problem solved.
(I have no idea why this problem occurred. In the "Windows Update", I opened the "update history" and saw the 'Impossible' updates, but I don't dig deeper than that.)
After restart my Asus X55oE due to necessary updates, I got «default configure features windows.» Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer. After reading several messages through other forums, I turned it and then turn again only to receive the same screen. Some of these forums say that it can take 2 hours or more because of so many updates made at the same time. I think I was trying to upgrade windows 8 for windows 8.1.
I'm really worried about it just because I just got back this PC from ASUS and am needing to work. Can someone tell me if there are other options or make sure that it just take a while? I also read that you can actually go to the control panel > windows update > help to erase mistakes. Also, someone said that you can customize the number of updates at a time can be both. I certainly do not happen again. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

If this does not help then, try to disable anti-virus and see if that helps.
Disable the anti-virus software
(Also applies to Windows 8 and 8.1 of widows)
Note : Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software.
