Default search engine guard move to Yahoo

Recently updated my Adobe Flash Player and now all of my searches are redirected to Yahoo. My preferences still list Google.  I checked my Extensions folder and don't see anything there. After the reboot, the problem disappears for the initial research and then back to Yahoo. Any suggestion on how to fix?  Thank you.

  • Yahoo was made to my default search engine.

I tried countless different methods of deleting files Spigot, wajam files, but I can't seem to go in. Chrome doesn't have this problem. I love Mozilla, but I'll pass if I can't get this resolved. The source of my problems was download Bittorent. I removed Bittorent, Spigot and wajam. But that will change my default search engine. I remove Yahoo as option and changed it to Google. I reset my computer, but Yahoo is still there. Normally I don't mind Yahoo, now I'm furious because of the principle of the matter. Help, please.

Hi David, able to reset your home page you use the steps in these articles:

Your selected page should appear when you launch a new window (Ctrl + n).

    • If you go back to Options and your setting was not justified, you may have something called SearchProtect on your computer. Which must be removed through the control panel.
    • If your setting is retained, but the new windows ignore, an extension can still be in control. Please see those again.
    • If Ctrl + n is good, but your icon or the shortcut of Firefox launches the wrong page, check to see if the shortcut has been hacked (see steps below).

To check the shortcut: right-click > properties > Shortcut tab (if it is pinned to the taskbar, you need to right-click > Mozilla Firefox right-click > properties > Shortcut tab.) For 64-bit Windows 7, the 'target' should be either not less the following:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

Anything after this could force Firefox to launch a specific page.

  • How to set Google as default search engine in Firefox 5? I tried several fixes, but I get a Yahoo instead of Google search.

I want to use Google as my search engine, but no matter what I change the default search engine settings is still Yahoo.

I would also like to have the track back feature when I opened a new tab, it shows often used pages that I can click on and open.

First of all, thanks to dmcritchie. His solution was helpful. However, I didn't uninstall my Yahoo Toolbar because I have buttons, bookmarks, etc. that do not migrate.

For those of you, like me, who want to continue to use your Yahoo toolbar as well as the use of the Google toolbar, here's another solution:

Rather than uninstall the Yahoo toolbar just hide it. Go to the command bar, select view > toolbars > then uncheck Yahoo toolbar. (See first image)

    Then...

    1. Open a new tab.
    2. Go to the address bar and type auto: config and press the Enter key.
    3. A warning box appears. Close the box by clicking on the button "I'll be careful, I promise". (See the second picture)

    When the text comes up,

    1. Scroll down until you find "browser.search.defaulturl" it will be in bold. Third image, with the selection highlighted by me)
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Then,.

    1. Scroll down until you find "keyword." URL"it will be in bold.
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
     http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Finally,.

    1. Scroll down further until you find "yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src" again, it will be in bold.
    2. Right-click on the expression, and then select 'Edit'.
    3. Type (or copy / paste) in the following:

    http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & q =

    1. Close the tab

    And you're done.

This will allow you to keep all the buttons and bookmarks you have in your Yahoo toolbar without side effects unpleasant to have Yahoo away your research and give you the darned Search 404 error pages.

    I hope this helps.

PS while you make changes to the configuration: automatic, be sure to copy the values that you are editing in a Word Pad document for later retrieval. Be clear about what "preference name" you have accessed and what 'value' you changed. " In this way, if necessary, you can always go back and everything returns to its previous state. I titled my document "Firefox AboutConfig Changes".

    Good luck!

  • 36 Firefox: How can I KEEP my choice of default search engine and Yahoo Search?

Firefox 36 insists now that I use Yahoo search constantly changing my default search engine choice. No matter now many times I put it for Google, I'll get something Yahoo and it's once again. I have Yahoo not checked in the search preferences, hoping that it will not be displayed again. Have restarted Firefox several times. No luck.

My last resort is to REMOVE Yahoo Search my list of search engines to prevent that from happening? I MIGHT want to use some time later, but not every day.

ALSO. If it's important, when I filled this question with 'installed plugins' information on my Mac and Firefox, a witness appeared, so I went to tools > Modules. This screen appeared for a second and instantly has far to another screen: DNS Yahoo Error Handler who had "garmin communicator plugin icon developer" entered in the search query box. My web experience is now taken by Yahoo?

Hmm, it sounds like you have some kind of hijacker in your Firefox. Try this:

Disable all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a
    • Tools menu > Modules

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off. (Or if it is obviously the badware, delete).

If Firefox is redirected at this point, see the next section.

Typically, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Who help me?

If Firefox is unable to use the addons page, you may need to block extensions using the Mode without failure of Firefox. It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

(Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works)

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

    Can remove you it?

  • I keep getting invited to set Yahoo as default search engine, but it already is, so I have to keep refreshing Firefox.

All the few weeks that I have to update Firefox to get rid of the box that asks me to set Yahoo as my default search engine. But it already is and I click Yes or no I always wonder. It's more than annoying. How to solve this problem?

If you want to get rid of this "nag" - get rid of this extension of the Yahoo toolbar, which is clearly the source of this message. Or see Yahoo support to know how to remove this message within this extension.

It seems that your localization of Firefox no longer has the default Yahoo search plugin.

    http://mycroftproject.com/Yahoo-search-plugins.html
Scroll down to 16. Key drivers and select the search plugin from Yahoo appropriate for your locale.

  • Default search engine & homepage

    I think I have a bug.

I have my default homepage set to MSN and Google search engine.  Since yesterday, whenever I open Safari, it opens on the Yahoo search engine.  Even when I do a search.  I checked the preferences of Safari and it still says MSN for the Home Page and of Google for my default search engine.

Unfortunately I don't have time capsule implemented so I don't think I can go back in time and reset for a first date... or can I?

Click here and follow the instructions, or if you do not delete rather manually the adware, launches MalwareBytes for Mac.

MalwareBytes simplifies the process of removal of adware, but does not stop it or other malware from entering the computer. It should not be invoked to prevent future incidents; Instead, avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store or Developer Web sites.

  • No default search engine

I installed freeware who hijacked my search. He removed all the default search engines and left only bing which was then my default. I managed to get off the list of bing and google added so I can search. It is not my preferred search tool. I can't find my favorite search, yahoo, as an add-on. The search engines of restoration tool is grayed out. I tried a reset Add-ons - nothing works. I use Windows 7. Should I reinstall firefox?

Actually, I figured out where the folder for the default search engines was and replaced it with another copy. The oldfirefox file I had reset was empty.

This used to be a piece of freeware confidence.

  • default search engine doesn't seem to work

My default search engine is set at Google.  But lately, all my research are made by Yahoo.  Can't understand why?

    Hey johnfromnorth andover!

I certainly want to have the search engine, that I show in Safari.  This should be a quick thing to check and sometimes happens when a pop up or download requests to change the default search engine in your browser.

With Safari open, click on Safari in the upper left corner next to the logo .  Choose Preferences from the Safari menu and search.  That should allow you to set Google to Yahoo! search engine  Who should get it switched to you and if not, try to check the Extensions or add-ons in Safari to ensure that Yahoo! is not on for either of them.

    See you soon!

  • How to change Mozilla.cfg to set google as default search engine

Need help with our setting mozilla.cfg file to change the default to yahoo search engine to google.
Browser.search.defaultenginename in comments: config already has the default value of 'google', so doesn't justing adding this line of modzilla.cfg - ' pref ("browser.search.defaultenginename", "google", as its currently by default.)

I noticed that if I manually change the search provider (thru the interface), then this value changes from 'default' to 'user set', which retains google as the default search engine. So how do I either set this value as 'user set' within mozilla.cfg, or use some alternative?

    thxs

You can restore the change in Google Yahoo search engine in the Firefox 34.0.5 by enabling / disabling browser.search.isUS to false.
Note that only 34.0.5 replaces the default search by Yahoo! engine.

    //
    lockPref("browser.search.isUS", false);

  • How can I change the default search engine in firefox 14?

I tried to change my default search engine, does not. A read a lot of the help file, but it seems that none of the recommendations had jobs. The problem is in the search box in the upper right where the default from now (the search engine when I open firefox for the first time) is Yahoo. I had tried to change it to goggle by clicking on the drop down arrow and select a new search engine, but does not take effect. Yahoo is still in effect so that the search engine despite this change. I also followed the advice of some to change the default engine by typing "subject: config" in the address bar and some values but still after the opening and closing firefox again, Yahoo is still the default search and could be that the change by selecting from the drop-down search menu.

Thank you for your answer but I managed to fix the problem already. What I did is to select from the dropdown to Ask.com (it seems that it is the only option that work) a window appeared asking me what a search engine change was made, and if I would use Ask.com to be the search engine or to maintain using Yahoo.com. I chose to use Ask.com and disable the protection on the search engine. Toke effect change and after that I could change from the drop down list a search engine like Google. I put a note above in parenthesis closed, that it seems Ask.com works as I tried before to change the search engine Google, but no window came to ask me if I want to change the default search engine.

Once again thanks a lot to you two, for the reply and for your precious time to try to solve this problem.
