Delete a downloaded version of Windows XP SP3

Hello

I downloaded the update to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and then discovered the computer got a virus before my installation.  Virus problem has been fixed, but several files were damaged and had to be repaired.  How can I remove the SP3 file from this computer so I can download a new copy?  I don't want to risk installing a corrupted file.

SP3 shows in Add/Remove Programs, but the selection that he does not have the option to uninstall.

Thank you
Kurt

Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

NB: No matter what free trial Norton or McAfee will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You need TO uninstall the trial for free and download/run the deletion appropriate before installing any Windows Service Packs or IE Update and before you install a new antivirus application (for example, Avast), which requires WinXP SP2 or SP3 to install anyway.

I am trying to find a downloadable version of windows xp SP2, im running on service pack 1, and the need to upgrade pack 3 through 2 then 3.  the automatic update will not work and the download file, I've found is IT multi users! How do the 3 pack?

Although there is mention of this multi users, individual users can use these files, too. :-)

It's not important to upgrade IE6 until AFTER the SP3 is installed.
    Here are the detailed instructions:

    1. download the installation of SP2, SP3 and IE8 files. I prefer to keep these on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=28 (for SP2)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

And if you wish, download the Setup file of a good anti-virus program. I recommend Avira free Antivirus:

    http://www.Avira.com/en/Avira-free-antivirus

    2. disconnect Internet.

    3. temporarily disable the automatic updates.

    4. install SP2. Restart TWICE.

5 install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

6 switch to IE8. Restart TWICE.

    7 install an Antivirus software.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

8 make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should be).

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet.)

9 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates.

You can download the stand-alone package for Windows XP SP3 from the following page on the Microsoft Download Center. Although this page shows that the installation package is intended for it professionals and developers, you can download and then install this package.

  • I want to buy a legal downloadable version of Windows XP Professional.

    Hello!

I bought the game Fallout 3, but it won't work with my Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, which I am running. Now, I would buy Windows XP Pro (English or Swedish version) and preferably a downloadable version. Is this possible? Or should I download a pirated version of windows XP just to be able to run my game that I spent a lot of money on?

Very grateful for any help I can get.

    BR

    Jörgen Jönsson

Well first of all you should have CHECKED the game you bought would go on the software you have.

Secondly there is no "legal" download of XP. However, I believe that Ultimate allows you to use the XP Mode. See here for details http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-mode

  • Why I can't download and install windows xp SP3?

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. My internet security program is Norton Antivirus online, provided by my ISP, Qwest... When I try to upgrade to SP3, my computer is getting ready for download, begins to check the download, then goes back to prepare for the download. Can I get a failure to download, with Ox80070005 error code I tried to download and install from the center of update and from the Microsoft Download Center, with the same results. Anyone can solve this for me, PLEEEEEEASE!  My computer is an old PC HP Pavilion Media Center Desktop, model #m370n. I connect to the internet through a gateway of Qwest. Model # Actiontec PK5000 modem. Please let know me if more information is needed. Thank you.

[1] your solutions solved my problems!

[2] but, I still wonder if it is advisable to remove the update section of the section add/remove from the Control Panel, already installed updates if updates do not apply to the version and service pack of windows I use!

[3].. .when I was running Norton security, I kept getting messages from the use of the high memory for many programs I was running. So I guess what I'm asking is, how can I safely free up memory on my drive if I am at or near the limit of memory?

A1. Excellent! And kind of you, too much work.

A2. Well, this would be a "double edge" => If you uninstall an older update (in order to "save space") and then find that you need to uninstall a more recent update that replaced (replaced) the former for a reason, you wouldn't be able to do.

That being said, see this discussion archived in another forum (where I also "hanging out") for a few suggestions related to dispose of "unnecessary updates...

A3. Let me ask you this: are seeing you this "high memory use" alerts now?

Speaking of which, you reinstall Norton Internet Security Online of Qwest or have you installed Microsoft Security Essentials to step #6 of my previous answer?

Remember that the available memory is not necessarily related to the amount of available disk space. If you want to read / learn more, see the section of the optimization of your computer here: http://aumha.org/win5/articles.htm

Very generally speaking, running Disk Cleanup every moment & should be all you need to do (especially if you no longer have an installed Norton application). Refer to the section of the free disk space up to here: http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx

  • Not able to download & install computer Windows XP SP3.

Original title: xp pro using updater fails to download and install sp3 - all previous service packs installed successfully. No error code, just a message that it could not install.

No associated error code. prevvious updated worked fine.

When you say "using updater", are you referring to Windows Update or automatic updates? There is a better way.

This method should work without a doubt for you (since you just do a clean install):

    1. download the installation of SP3 and IE8 files. I prefer to keep these on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

(If you already have IE8 installed, you must uninstall it for best results. Trust in me.)

And if you wish, download the Setup file of a good anti-virus program. I recommend Avira free Antivirus:

    http://www.Avira.com/en/Avira-free-antivirus

    2. disconnect Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices.

    3. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

    4. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

5 move to IE8. Restart TWICE.

    6. install anti-virus software.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

    7. make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

Start | Control Panel | Security Center

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)

8 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

    9. reactivate the automatic updates.

  • Downloadable version of Windows 7 Toshiba Upgrade DVD

    Hello!
The update of 'Free' is not very successful, so I think Toshiba may be releasing a downloadable Upgrade DVD version, which can be downloaded from a secure site after validation of the serial number.

Maybe it wasn't the success for you. I did successfully pass so it will be interesting to know what was wrong with your upgrade.

I think this idea of downloadable update is great, but I guess that Toshiba has reason for which this disc must be ordered and cannot offer as a download option.
Furthermore, the disc probably 6 or 8 GB data. Practice to download isn t it? ;)

  • Problems to install a downloaded version of Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 on my mac through VMWARE FUSION

    Hi all

I hope you can help as I'm going crazy! It's my first MAC if im a complete noob.

Me being lazy has decided to download Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 from https://emea.microsoftstore.com/UK/DesktopDefault.aspx/tabid-2/ site

It contains 3 files which I had to download separately:

    Vista_HomeBasic_SP1_32bit_English_Download_Part1_66G - 02017.exe

    Boot.wim

    install.wim

Once I had downloaded these. I pulled the top of VMWARE AU12EME 2 but could not detect anything. If I then wacked out on a memory stick and ran the .exe on my windows pc. This integrated then all the files I downloaded a good big folder of Vista.

So once again I pulled up to VMWARE fusion 2.0 but still nothing. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I heard people talking that I need an ISO file? But I searched all files that I downloaded and installed, and there is nothing similar. The only thing I can think is that I need to burn the VISTA folder I extracted from my pc to DVD and try running disk on my Mac. But that would make a difference that I tried to run from my DESKTOP MAC key and memory? In addition, there is no ISO files.

Please HELP I'm worried that I just lost my money!

I did a little research, and it was one of the best hits on How to make Vista DVD bootable with WIM downloaded files that I think sums up your situation.

Because I had the file oscdimg.exe since Install Kit automated (Windows AIK) I gave it a try and it worked.  In other words, by using the folder of Vista and its content that has been created by you run the files you downloaded you should be able to create a Bootable ISO Image, which you can then use to create a DVD, if you have the right software to burn an ISO Image on DVD.  (Maybe you could do this on the Mac) Although if you want to you have even burn the ISO Image to DVD just copy it on the Mac and assign it to the CD/DVD in the settings of Virtual Machines.

Other documents you may find useful: Microsoft TechNet > TechNet Library > Windows > Windows Vista > Windows Vista technical library Roadmap > Windows Vista: deployment > Kit to install Windows Automated (Windows AIK) > Deployment Tools Technical Reference > Command - line Tools Technical Reference > Oscdimg command-line Options

Just to let you know that it took me about 20 minutes to do a search on Google and create the ISO Image and the test that I could start a VM in the Fusion and if you need to download and install the Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) to get the oscdimg.exe file it obviously will take you a little longer, but it is doable and the solution vs safer trying to get the file oscdimg.exe or cdimage.exe from a link sent illegally into the file.

In any case the information presented here can solve your problem of creating a Bootable Image DVD/ISO.

Windows XP, no matter what service pack level that is the case, is NT 5.1.

The only exception is 64-bit Windows XP, which is NT 5.2
