Delete "SWSetup"?

I've updated to win 8 from win 7. I want to remove the folder SWSetup from the c: drive, which is close to 4 GB.

SWSetup folder several folders named like sp5648 etc...

My question is will of the removal of the SWSetup folder affect all applications/drivers installed or all installed programs using the files in the SWSetup folder during the race?

Hello

The swsetup folder everything contains installation programs for software and drivers relevant to your laptop and is not necessary or inaccessible during normal operation.  It is also the location of the HP installers download you will extract to before execution.

It is perfectly OK to remove this folder, but you might consider everything first copy on external media such as a DVD blank, just in case you need quick access to one installation programs it contains.

Best regards

The different stock for maxium is almost small. With only 4EU in chip SoC it improvement at little cost.
Just delete SWsetup/DRV or you will have discovered that the stock drivers reinstall itself. A battle lost for months, until yesterday.

  • I accidentally deleted the SwSetup folder...

What it this folder contain? Was it something important? If so where can I download it?

It is a folder that contains the folders created when you download and run a HP SoftPaq.  It is not essential, and that your computer will work fine without. it. you cannot automatically uninstall any HP Softpaqs you installed before you delete the folder.

  • can I remove c:\swsetup?

I'm trying to free up disk space on my tx1119. After consulting with some general forums, some have said that the SWSETUP directory is specific HP. If Yes, can I remove it safely? It would even be almost 3 GB

c:\swsetup has the installation files for most of the drivers on the laptop.

deletion of the file will not harm your computer.incase in the future if you do not have access to the internet and that you want to install the drivers, then I bet that you do not miss this folder.

  • HP Pavilion Notebook: Error - C:\swsetup\sp71729\x64\HP SimplePass.msi

I posted this problem from someone else who had the same problem 6 days ago and there still must be a response from HP.  The OP has posted his problem a few days previously.  Someone took my message about the same problem as the solution to the problem when it was not. Someone else offered a solution to the problem to uninstall specific updates.  This solution does not work.

When you try to install the update for Simplepass, I get the following error

Dialog box AppHelp cancelled preventing the application start error - C:\swsetup\sp71729\x64\HP SimplePass.msi

I hope that this post receives an answer from HP!

Number of product HP Pavilion Notebook PC [personal information deleted] all known Windows 10 updates have been installed.

Ladies and gentlemen, a solution has been found - kinda sorta maybe.

I went to chat with Joyce.  She was asked to take the remote access to my computer.  I hesitated because I heard of many horror stories of "technicians" to take control of a computer remotely, but I agree.

It redownloaded the file and installed.  However, when the error message came, she did not click on the ok button.  Instead, the box has closed.  She waited about 30 seconds and viloa, the file has been successfully installed.

Now I don't know if the box instead of clicking on the ok button of closing had something to do with fixing the problem, in fact I seriously doubt.  I suspect that an update or another, either Microsoft or HP had more to do with the real difficulty instead of how the error message has been closed.  As they say, timing is everything.

However, after you restart the computer, I noticed that in my Start menu, all text was almost invisable when I would click the all Apps.  As time passes, it becomes a light gray, then darker and finally white.  It comes and goes, not always white, but not always completely invisable.  Yet once again, I suspect this has more to do with updates that whatever she did.

BUT here's the part maybe kinda sorta.  When I brought this text matter to her attention, she was asked to take the remote again I delivered.  Without asking permission, immediately, she went in my Startup tab in the Manager of tasks and begun disabling and activation of the things that I know for an absolute FACT had nothing to do with why the start menu text changed color.  Then went to msconfig through the run menu and changed a few things in the service menu.  Then it restarted the computer, WITHOUT ANY CARE FOR me!  Now, when the computer has been rebooted first of all, I returned to firefox back to chat with her.  HP cat re-opened immediately in its own window, leaving the opening screen of firefox with the button restore session in a separate window.  When it restarted the computer, I never had the chance to restore my session and I actually lost all tabs through three windows of firefox.  I literally lost 5-6 hours work College that I had done previous.  Lost as in never went.  I tried to rename the previous.js file, but it was too late.  All of the tabs, all work has disappeared.

Morale of the store, if you let someone else take control of your computer, make sure that all THE necessary work is recorded first.  I lost hours of work I can never go back and will have to start over again.  Something like that should NEVER HAPPEN.

Hope that the solution works for those of you are having problems, and I hope that most problems are not created.  I know this well, it will be the last time that someone remote access my computer.  They can text me what to do in the future!

  • How can I delete the files from hard drive update?

Whenever I download some updates of drivers and programs to my PC via the HP Support Assistant, the program downloads firmware like spXXXXX and then decompresses them in C:\SWSetup folder in order to install them. Now, I see that this folder is not empty and is about 8 GB and probably the update packages are stored somewhere else, and I have room in my drive, so the question is: is it safe to delete the contents of this folder or the files are always stored in a purpose? Is there a way I can clean these files after you install the updates?

Yes, they are created in a temporary folder and then gets deleted after installation.

    swsetup and SYSTEM. SAV.

You can rename them and if anything crashes, then you can remove them if necessary.

  • No free space after deleting files - trouble with optimized storage?

Hi, I have macos Sierra and I deleted many files to my main drive and also to my external hard drive (both to the Mac OS Extended format) in preparation for the boot camp. I also emptied the Recycle Bin, although there is much less space on the two disks that it should be and the majority of the space is obviously indicated under "purgeable". I thought it would not be a problem, because I assumed that the space would be released, if I move all of the files there and if I need for the new Windows partition. However, this assumption was false. I can't simply use storage that I released. I can't move there all the files and I can't create the partition from free space. What can I do with it? It's pretty frustrating... Thanks for the help!

You must use the Bootcamp Assistant to create the Bootcamp partition.

Please provide details on the total space and free space on your internal drive. Post screenshots of what you see in system-> storage information. In addition, select the drive in Finder-I press control and post a screenshot of the window read the information.

  • When I deleted a picture of my MacBook, why it also remove the external hard drive?

So I tried to help my wife to free up space on his MacBook Pro by putting all of his photos on an external hard drive. After iPhoto slide the hard disk and wait 40 minutes so that he could transfer, I wanted to make sure it worked. I ejected the disk and then plugged in. Of course, all iphotos were still there. Just to be sure, I deleted one file in the folder on the computer's iphoto. I went to my shock and horror, the external hard drive, that it has been deleted it too! How is that possible? I've been scouring the Internet trying to retrieve this file with no luck. It was not in the trash. There is a tab "recently deleted". Time machine was not turned on. iCloud shows nothing. I can't download any software, because the computer is completely filled. How is it possible that by deleting this folder on the computer he did also leave the hard drive? AND it has not been saved in the trash? I have used PC, and whenever I need something in return, he was ALWAYS in the trash. And if I deleted something on the computer with an external hard drive connected, it would NEVER be removed from the external hard drive at the same time. I'm so frustrated and feeling SO bad that I deleted a folder with important pictures of our kids. Is that what I can do to recover the pictures? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You used Time Machine at all? I see you say it was not on, but it never on and is at - it a backup Time Machine on the Macbook Pro?

When I try to delete the web history in safari 10, there are several Web site "databases" that keeps reappearing even if I don't have anything else on my system linked to them... is there anyone else who made this experience?

    Maybe the database...

    Open the Finder.

In the Finder menu bar, click go > go to folder

Then, copy or paste the following text:

    ~/Library/Safari/history.DB

Click OK, and then place the History.db file in the trash.

    Quit and then restart Safari.

See if that makes a difference.

I have a small number of iMacs here that back up using Time Machine on our local network to an external hard drive on an iMac running server. I added a second external hard drive and I say most of the Mac to use instead. Once they have saved once the new drive safely - how can I remove the old backup of the first disc? Is it safe to just delete the sparsebundle to it? Or is there a way to do it properly

    TIA

    Andy

Yes, it is safe to delete the sparsebundle in the old media from backup after you remove as the backup location and create your 1st upward on the new location. Since your iMac is now pointing to the new backup media, they are more associated in the former. If you have no other Mac backup on old media, you can simply reformat.
