Delete the contents of the 'library of Photos' on the Mac won't do photos in iCloud?

Delete the contents of the 'library of Photos' on the Mac won't do photos in iCloud? My pictures stopped downloading to iCloud because my Mac ran out of storage. 'Library of photos' on the Mac takes all of the storage. I'm pass photos to an external hard drive to the Mac App Photos then upload to iCloud.

Delete the contents of the library of Photo on your Mac will also remove the contents of the Photo library in iCloud, because they are the same thing

I thought being smart and transfer my library of Photos to iCloud by car so I can access all my devices, but now the pictures won't open it. If I move just back off iCloud drive to any where in my regular Finder file system then pictures is perfectly fine opening of the library. What the heck! Anyone know what is happening or that seemingly obvious thing does not work why?

Yes... I think the library should be 'local' to your Mac. It can live on a USB key and maybe even a network drive, but I do not expect any level of performance with her on the cloud. If you think you can avoid to keep your phone synchronized with iCloud and still have access to all of your library, it won't work.

  • Relink 'Library of Photos' to iCloud photo library

This question relates to a clean install of Mac OS Sierra

I have my library of Photos in pictures file, and there all my uploaded images. When I format my computer, how can I create a link to this file with iCloud photo library, so I don't have to download anything new?

I still did not understand the exact procedure for this and want to avoid download it all again as I have in the past. There must be a way to link to the top, since I downloaded them all already.

    You can not

If you restore a library or repair one that it triggers a total upload to make sure that everything is in harmony, there is no way to avoid that - you just start a new library and let ICPL fill the iCloud - he loses people and all

  • How to manage a large library of Photos with iCloud

I have an iMac with a 1 TB drive. El Capitan.

I have a library of Photos that is 450 GB.

I use NOT currently in iCloud photo library.

Library to backup to external hard drive.

I would switch to 500 GB SSD drive, so I need to cut the pictures library to adapt.

I tried to read as much information, but I'm still not clear on some points.

Hard to test on the great library.

Traverse and the cleaning of a large library of Photo are your time, I'm looking for less than hands on options.

    My thought:

    1. upgrade to iCloud 1 TB storage Plan

    2. turn on iCloud photo library (original leave) and wait a few days/weeks/months to the great library to synchronize with iCloud.

    3. turn on iCloud photo library (optimized) on iPhone and iPad to synchronize all libraries and get all the originals to iCloud and then the iMac

Q1. How much space will be a large library as it takes on an iOS device. I'm afraid that even an optimized library will fill 64 GB device.

(I know that's dependent on media, but just looking for a guideline for iOS, I think OS X is 9to1)

    4. once everything is synchronized, copy the photo library in DHM (properly formatted) as a backup.

    5. start the on EHD photo library to ensure the proper functioning.

    6. allow photo library on iMac as the synchronized library. Don't want to keep always connected DHM.

7 change library Photos optimized on the computer and let the full synchronization.

This should give me a library optimized on the iMac and a complete library on the EHD.

However, since the EHD are not the Central Library for iCloud synchronization, it will remain not being updated.

Q2. Can I create another user account on the iMac with my iCloud settings and using EHD originals full as the main library?

That would allow me to periodically plug JEP, throw the other user account and let pictures synchronize updates and get new originals.

This would be mainly used as a backup plan, so I rely not only on iCloud himself.

Is this a reasonable plan or I'm far from base.

    Kind regards

Q1. How much space will be a large library as it takes on an iOS device. I'm afraid that even an optimized library will fill 64 GB device.

(I know that's dependent on media, but just looking for a guideline for iOS, I think OS X is 9to1)

My library has only about 200 GB on the Mac, with 40000 photos, but it's horrible on the iPad in an optimized version. Size is fine, he has been reduced to about 10% of its original size, but work with Photos is a pain, if each photo is just a fuzzy image and needs icloud download to view properly. Sometimes it takes a minute or more to recover the photo, so it is impossible to browse photos or making a slide show.  On the iPad, I returned to sync with iTunes, the albums selected. On the iPhone, it's not so bad, because the screen is smaller, and blurring is tolerable.

Q2. Can I create another user account on the iMac with my iCloud settings and using EHD originals full as the main library?

You can do it from your normal user account. Alternate between libraries and to the iCloud photo library on the external drive.

It will be easier than permission risk issues when you access a library of two different user accounts.

If you want to reduce the size of the internal Player library quickly, remove the library on internally, after that you are sure that the copy on the external hard drive is working properly.  Create a new library on the internal disk and make your iCloud Photo Library., optimized. The library will download in an optimized way and be much smaller to begin with.

  • How to copy a library of Photos to iCloud on multiple Macs using external drive

250 GB +, it seems much more efficient to copy my library to a portable external hard drive and then manually copy the other 2 Mac, I want him to.

But I just tried this and the 2nd Mac I copied it to past all night "sending" to iCloud. Which is meaningless because he has just received a very up-to-date copy of the entire library.

I'm worried library iCloud is stupid enough so that it is now useless re-upload the your entire library. Where all he had to do was sync. Dropbox seems to be a lot smarter about what iCloud.

Silent - not at all - when you move the Photos of the library must check that the library is identical to the version of iCLoud - it says downloading but is really check - trary

is the only possible way if can tell what's in the library the ICloud lib complare

probably the best way is to simply use iCloud photo library and do not try to outsmart it - login to iCloud on each system bearing the same Apple ID and turn on ICPL and let it download to each system

  • Library of photos on iCloud Drive as well as Dropbox?

Hello. Is it possible to store my library of Photos both on iCloud drive like Dropbox? I like the iCloud drive, because it automatically syncs with all my devices, and I like Dropbox, since it will be an additional backup if something goes wrong with iCloud library.

I think correctly? Or the two options are not compatible with each other? What I have to choose one or the other?

Thanks for any ideas, you can provide.

There is no disk icloud - you talk about iCloud photo library I think

As for DropBox so far that no one could think I saw or heard of the box used to back up or transfer the library because the library must be on a formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) volume and drop box is not correctly formatted

And note that ICPL is not a backup - it's a way to share your library between multiple devices - you still need one or more local backups

  • Files downloaded from the Mac does not show on iphone iCloud

I downloaded file to iCloud for my Mac, but does not appear on iClod on my iPhone? I thing I put iCloud to share between my Mac, iPhone and iPad. Suggestion?

What type of file? Did you use iCloud drive?

Try to go to iCloud.com to see if the elements are there and whether the device or the computer. That should indicate if the device or computer is not synchronizing. If the computer, try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop synchronization. Wait a few minutes, then recheck the timing. If the device, go to settings/iCloud and do the foregoing. You can also try connecting to iCloud and then reconnect.

In settings/iCloud is iCloud drive turned on? That should give you a player to iCloud application.

  • How to create the new library of Photos to iCloud without it merging with the former?

I started my iCPL in January 2015. It is now 104 Gb/8000 photos. In a year I need to upgrade my plan of storage iCloud.

So I think I would make the existing one a regular photo library, and start a new photo library iCloud.

If I start a new library now and make the iCPL, merge it with the existing iCPL. I want to replace the existing in iCloud.

    I could do (I think): -.

    1. make the existing a non-iCPL and rename it.

    2. create a new lib Photos and make the library system iCloud.

    3. the new library (empty) will download and merge with the former in iCloud, so it contains now 8000 photos of the original lib.

    4. delete all the 8000 photos in the new.

    5. start put new photos in the photo library now empty iCloud.

Is there a better way? I do it too difficult?

I can see what I've described above taking a long time to settle on all devices, even if I can avoid 30 day waiting by removing the deleted record recently.

    Thank you

You use "Optimize Mac Storage" on your Mac? Then, you will need to make sure that all the photos to download to your Mac before you copy your current library corresponding to your backup disk and start deleting iCloud.  Is there enough free storage on your Mac to do this?

I would also like to than my thin iCloud library. My iCloud library has only my favorite photos of many years, I want on all my devices as well as the most recent photos that I'm still trying. Because the iCloud library must be the library system, only in iCloud library photos are available in the media for other applications browser, so I keep all the photos here that I can use in other applications.

What I do to save bandwidth and download time is to have two libraries:

    1. A large library where I keep all the photos I want to keep - it's my photo archives. This library is on an external drive that is supported by Time Machine and is currently still an Aperture library.
    2. A smaller library iCloud in my pictures folder.

I import new photos first to the iCloud library, remove all the bad moves that do not need archiving, then I export the originals at the library of the archives.

And then I start editing the photos in the library to iCloud and learn by removing and keeping only the best photos.

  • Save the library of Photos with faces

    Hello

I had to reinstall my Mac (clean). I supported my library of Photos (with iCloud than on library) on an external drive. Then all deleted and reinstalled my system. After put my photo library and turning on iCloud, all my 4000 pictures started downloading (and duplication) iCloud even they were already there. I had to stop this, delete my backup of the library of Photos and all photos were downloaded from iCloud. It would have been nice if I lose all my face tags (I spent a lot of time with) so how can I do the next time that when reinstalling my Mac?

    Thanks for the tips.

    Milan

It do exactly what you did the first time. Make a backup of your library of photos on an external drive and copy this library back to restore.

The pictures will download all the photos again and compare with iCloud photo library. It will not recognize the library restored as the same library it used before, but she uses a detection duplicates to prevent adding duplicates. It will take as long as the initial download.

If you start with a library empty projects and thumbnails of faces will be lost.  (Use pictures and iCloud library on several Macs - Apple Support)  But the restored Library searchable faces tags. You can still search the faces you assigned previously and use to recreate thumbnails of faces more quickly.

But wait, face detection was performed on the photos downloaded from iCloud photo library.

  • Library of photos after the beta

I used the beta version of El Capitan, and today I've downgraded to usual El Capitan. The problem is that I can't use pictures. Only, it does not support my library and I can't use it. I tried to recover, but 95% it says error. So, what can I do? Y at - it an option to use my library with an older version of Photos or should I wait for the new OS?

You may not use the Beta version of your library with the current stable version of MacOS X.

If your library is a library of photos from iCloud, you can create a new library and make your Photo library system, then download from the library to iCloud.

Or restore the version of your library from the backup you made before you upgrade to the beta version.  But if not, you will have to wait for the next update of the system.

We are not supposed to discuss the beta versions of the software in these forums, so your question might soon disappear.

  • delete the partition after a failed installation of windows 10

    Hello world

How is it possible to delete partitions, if in disk utility, there is no possibility to click on the '-' key?

So I made a failure (several) attempts to install windows 10 on my new iMAC.

I could download an ISO of windows and start the bootcamp assistant.

In the last attempt of last night, I selected the bootcamp in windows installation partition, however, installing windows said it was impossible to read the hard drive.

I then re-formatted this partition (BOOTCAMP) in the installation of windows, and after that, still could not read.

Then, I deleted the bootcamp partition in windows and re-created a partition on "unallocated space" in the windows installation.

Installing windows 10 still wouldn't move forward then I've bailed out and went back to OS X with the hope of turning it back on (again) by deleting partitions.

I was unable to delete the Mac partition.

Then, I deleted this partition (the one original bootcamp) and reformatted as OS x journaled. At least now, I can see the Partition.

However in Diskutil, I was then impossible to delete this Partition. There is also a small partition 16 MB that cannot be erased.

Wizard bootcamp will be past a pop up station: the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.

So I will now try to delete these partitions (the boy and the training camp original one) merge into the original and give then installing bootcamp, another go when I have a lot of energy!

    1. your iMac has a Fusion drive?

    2. don't mix to disk utility and Wizard of BC. They can lead to a host of issues.

    3. If you do not typos in the Terminal, they provide much more rich in detail. You have a Time Machine backup, put in place?

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

The "sudo" commands will prompt to enter your password, and there do not appear to come back. You can also see caution against improper use 'sudo' and the potential loss of data due to an "abuse" of the order.

  • Library of mobile Photos with iCloud library enabled

TL; DR: Library of Photos while using iCloud does not merge, but adds the entire library to iCloud, once again, in my case upgrade my plan of storage while plenty of space for this merger

    All,

I have been using iCloud photo library for a long time now to synchronize photos between devices, and.

I'm running out of space in the drive of my Mac, and I wanted to move the library to the SD card, so I followed the steps to copy the folder and then selecting the alt-click on the Photos icon library.

It works, all (or most) of the exhibition of photos very well.

When I go into Preferences > iCloud he says "iCloud for Photos features are available in the library of the system", so I go to Preferences > general and click 'Use as library system' which I think is the correct step since I don't want to spend the entire hard drive and SD card is always connected (it's a Transcend JetDrive Lite 330 enough to store things I don't usually work) (such as photos, music, files ISO and VMs). ICloud options are available click on, so I check 'iCloud photo library' and then it starts to redownload my entire library

Since the library is the same, I wasn't expecting to download and let me upgrade my iCloud-storage plan. I did, for fear of deleting something, but I have always received a lot of space in my 50 GB plan that I can see in system preferences > iCloud (using the ~ 37 GB).

This is the expected behavior and what I need to download again, all my photos? They're all here already!

Are there additional steps to follow when moving the library AND iCloud is activated? I sure miss what is obvious, but I followed all the steps described in official documents and other internet resources, nothing helps, that is: no way to avoid the double space in iCloud so spend my iCloud storage plan.

    Thank you!

    Yes.

Photos will download the library once again, because it cannot be sure that the library has moved is completely identical.  It is downloaded again and check for duplicates. Once the download is complete, you use more storage than before iCloud, but it will take a lot of time.

But it shouldn't be necessary to upgrade the storage plan. You should be able to demote him again as soon as the download is complete.

What I do, when I want to move the library to a new location is to create a new empty library on the new drive and then turn on the library empty as the iCloud photo library. The library will be downloaded icloud in the empty library instead of download. It's faster and avoid the prompt to upgrade storage iCloud. But the drawback is that I need to name all the faces again, given that the faces does not synchronize to iCloud. And the projects will be missing.  I'm keeping a copy of the original library in the new location, so I can use old projects and can find faces in the event of doubt about a name.

  • How can I select photos to iCloud applications when this option has been disabled?

I'm puzzled. I tried to add a photo in the Mail, but the picture does not appear.  I was puzzled that only about 3,000 of my 48000 pictures were in the media browser and decided to investigate and even rebuilt my entire library without change in sight.

It turns out that Apple did not implement you are not presented with neither you can select photos, who do not have the version on your computer, even if they are in your library of photos to iCloud and even if all the thumbnails are present, including all the metadata for the research. I would like to add a few swear words here, but refrain. See this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204669

This feature exists and works perfectly in IOS, btw.

I used earlier iMedia browser Karelia.com, but that is no longer available. Mail has a fairly easy solution, as I can just drag and drop photos, as far as I know, but other upload functions require that you use a selector to file to access photos and which is severely broken this way.

Is there a better way to do it?

I can do this in email, OSX 10.11.4 and photos optimized on my Mac.

This error message, if any, that you get?

ETA, I have tons of HD space on the Mac, so my pictures * may * not actually optimized for the moment. This parameter is a variable, depending on need.

Have you tried to push the image of Photos? i.e.' select the photo, double click it and share it through the Mail option.

  • How can I choose which photos to iCloud phone

So I have a lot of pictures on my iMac (under OSX El Capitan) and so now I Cloud that they almost fill the memory on my iPhone 4.  Is there a way I can choose only the pictures I want to leave iCloud appear on my phone?

iCloud is mainly a synchronization service to do all the libraries on all identical devices and update, if one of the library changes.  If you don't want not all photos from your Mac to your iPhone, do not use iCloud photo library, but synchronize only the albums selected to your iPhone with iTunes (see: Sync photos to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in iTunes - Apple Support).

Or keep only an iCloud small library. You can have a photo library large format on your Mac, which does not synchronize with iCloud and a smaller with photos selected to be synchronized in iCloud.  See: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6d60b524

If you use the "Optimize storage" option on your iPhone, all the photos should fit on your iPhone, even if your iCloud library is very large. Photos will always use any available storage, but optimize more photos, if storage is necessary for other applications.

  • After you export a photo library of backup, how to delete the photos in the photo library of the system

Hi, I use the pictures 1.2

Each year, I export my library on a backup drive and give it the name of the given year. My next task was to remove unwanted pictures (about 10 K photos) from that same year, then keep those 'important' for me (stuff of family, work and other landscapes and al. stuff: about 2 000 pictures.) I don't remember how I used to do with iPhotos, but it seemed obvious. Now, with Photos, I see only two choices: either watch the complete list of the photos, then click on those that I don't have anymore (I do not see me scroll 12 000 photos and videos) opening of the events at the time and the option click all photos to delete (and not just remove them from the event).

Deleting events without opening it won't because I get a message telling me (for good or bad reasons) that the photos are always going to be there. But then, imagine that I could remove the same with content pictures, I have about 300 events to remove, and they can be deleted one at a time.

So my question is (and I already put it as a feature request to apple, just in case) how I mass delete unwanted items and their photos, or better yet, how can we keep all the photos that I like (Favorites, for example, or photos with celebrities...) and delete the rest?

My library contains more than 200 GB on my MacBook Pro 500 GB HDD. I can't let it grow to 150 GB each year. and I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. In addition, I travel a lot in many countries with bad Internet connections, so I won't use iCloud.

    Thank you!

How are 'export' your photo of the backup library?  You create a copy of your current photo on the backup disk library or using "file > export" to export the photos? Just to be sure, that your photos are safe.

My next task was to remove unwanted pictures (about 10 K photos) from that same year, then keep those 'important' for me (stuff of family, work and other landscapes and al. stuff: about 2 000 pictures.) I don't remember how I used to do with iPhotos, but it seemed obvious.

You can quickly find the photos to delete by creating a smart album with the rule "the Photo is not favorite" and "Date is in the range...". »

    File > new Smart Album:

You can add a rule "keyword is not 5 stars", if you have added the side star as well.

Then, select a range of photos in this smart album and enter the ⌘⌫ (command + delete) key combination.

This will completely clear photos of the library.

You can use the same combination of keys to remove the photos from iPhoto event albums in the Album section.  If you simply enter the delete key, the photo will be deleted only from the album, but remain in the library.
