Dell 1750 upgrade hard drive

A Noob so please bear with me to be Noob-ish.

My 250 gig Sata in my dell aging 1750 Inspirion finally gave up the ghost and died (RIP), do not make Jeremy by that I buy a 640 GB Toshiba Sata Drive, piece of cake to fit, 4 screws, and work has been done, reassembled. And went to reinstall the OS (Win 7), now get a black screen with no boot or the interial drive, which I am slightly confuddled with.

I get a device bootable No. strike f1 to reboot, F2 for Setup Utility or F5 to run onboard diagnostics, (which I've done), now I'm lost...

Please help before I'm going Mad!

Osprey,

Thanks a lot for your comments, but I have remedied this problem, took 24 hours to solve, but I got in the end, with the need to order a CD of replacement, which I have, as I suspected that it was not a mistake with the optical drive (false positives), it is simply because it was a replacement for my replacement of 250 gig SATA drive now its works very well, as I type this response on my laptop with the new drive.

Have a good day Sir!

  • 6400 upgrade Hard Drive just SHRUNK... Once again!!!

First of all let me state that I am ready to throw my computer and TWO 2, TWO Yes upgrade hard drives out of my 2nd floor window!

OK, my wind is done, for now.

I have an Inspiron 6400 with HDD 80 GB of origin (73.1 GB space.)  I wanted to go to a Western Digital 250 GB hard drive.  I bought the drive and cloned it.  My first attempt was a purchase Norton Ghost program (after the $150 for the reader, that's another $50 for the program) I cloned it from the laptop via a USB - SATA connection.  Everything seemed fine, until I swapped hard drives.  He got through the BIOS, no problem, then started to windows.  Immediately, it projected blue and that was that.  Swap return original hard drive, everything OK.  Put old drive in the spare computer/SATA slot and realized that the reader shrunk to 73.1 GB. . the SAME SIZE as the original drive.

After days/weeks and literally probably 5 to 6 hours of troubleshooting, downloading about 4-5 programs, utilities, etc, and have EVERY single utility, test and program otherwise tell me the car was very good (less the fact that he was now 170 GB smaller) I thought that drive was simply bad then returned.  (After fighting with Tiger Direct, I had to return it directly to WD, but they at least sent me a replacement unit before that I had to return the first...  (where my 'two' drives))

So I have the new, 2nd hard drive in hand and I say to myself that I would be the clone differently, from my desktop (Dell 690) who had a few ports SATA spare on it.  I cloned it with a different program and once again, everything seems to be okay.  It showed in my office.  This time, I've set manually the new disk partitions to what I end up with.)

So I put the new, larger, cloned drive in the computer, booted and BAAM!  Exactly the same thing.  Blue screen stop...  And guess what... The drive is now 73.1 GB. . and once more, there is nothing I can do to bring back to 250 GB... any computer, software, utility, etc. I throw at it or throw it out in...

Back to Western Digital... but this time, I don't know yet what to say or how to proceed.

    My questions are:

    1. What is happening and why I can't get a 250 GB drive in the machine.  (I can't find ANYWHERE a maximum limit of hard drive)

    2. any thoughts on how to get my drive to the correct size of declaration?

I'm really steam it... I have never spent so much time on what should be a simple question in my 15 years and more and about 20 + systems of computers through my hands...

    Thanks in advance

  • Firebird 802 - upgrade hard drives - Solid State / hybrid anyone?

I'm upgrading hard drives on my Firebird 802 (the part the WEAKEST of my Firebird and the SMALLEST score on Windows Index). I replaced the drive secondary with a Seagate 500 GB SATA drive at 7200 RPM (ST950042 4AS) and REALLY improved performance (I have my file on the secondary drive).

It's now time to upgrade the MAIN disk. I'm looking at a "Hybrid" car A Seagate ST95005620AS Momentus XT 500 GB Solid State Hybrid Drive - 500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA 3 Gb/s.

Has anyone tried upgrading the main drive of a hybrid? For a solid Sate drive?

    Thank you

    Enzo

Well WELL, @ 10:39 PM PST after FOUR and a HALF and TWO attempts of the hybrid drive WORKS as my main drive on my Firebird 802!

Using the data transfer software CMS Bounceback ($14.99 per download) the program was missing several files that were essential for the computer to boot. Once I checked the transfer journal and moved the files myself IT BOOTS!

THUS, in a few weeks, I'll post the kind of increases in speed that I experience. First comment, my drives are running @ 98 degrees F. It's HOT, so I'll have to come back a fan for the hard disk enclosure, in fact, you can put at the front of the box and jump through this background grid. Going to put in place tomorrow. Now I'm BEAT!

Thus, it CAN BE DONE on your Firebird! Solution, HERE!

    Thank you!

  • SATA 3 Upgrade hard drive

Problems with my hard drive so I'm upgrading to a larger device SATA 3. Just thought I would check with Dell to see if the motherboard supports SATA 3 or if it would simply be it throttle back so that it acts as a SATA 2 device.

Unfortunately, I had the answer "it won't work".  When I pressed them on whether if it meant it would not work in mode SATA 3, after many expectations while the technician looked at offline, the best I could get was that the motherboard isn't compatible SATA 3... and it would not work.

I must admit that I do not understand this kind of response. Anywhere else I looked on the Internet it says that everything is interchangeable, and if the motherboard does not support native SATA 3 then the HARD drive works in SATA 2 (slowest mode)

Dell correct and everything everyone else wrong, or is this another case of I need to get my hands on more technically competent assistance?

Or worse yet is this another exclusive DELL problem.

    Jettgod

    Hi Jettgod,

Dell Studio XPS 435MT comes with chipset based Intel X 58 motherboard and SATA support in operations, in SATA II mode. A hard drive SATA III is backward compatible and works on your system, however, it will give you speeds of SATA II only.

For more information on the Intel X 58 chipset, you can check for a link: http://intel.ly/11l1Tbp

I hope this helps. Do not respond if you have any other questions.

  • L501x - upgrade hard drive?

    Hello

I have a computer Dell laptop l501x and seeks to upgrade the hard drive to a bigger, preferably a to 1.5 or 2.0 TB of HDD.  The current drive is a 750 GB WD model # WD7500BPKT.  I looking for some readers, but am not sure if they will be fit.  One is a Toshiba 1.5 TB, model # MQ01ABC150.  It is said that the thickness is 12.5 mm.  It fit?  Is there any disks out there in the range of 2.0 1.5 tb I can get?

The 750 GB has a rotation speed of 7200 RPM and a 16 MB cache.  It has a 180 MB/second transfer rate.  I accept a drive 5400 RPM, the compromise is a slower speed for cooler operation.  But I see too many who are just 8 MB of cache.  Y at - he's not there with the hiding greater?  32 or 64 MB would be great.

    -Dave

No - you can only use discs 9.5 mm or thinner.  There are no records on 1 terabyte that are made to the 9.5 mm format - it's as well as the limit for your upgrade, unless you go with an external drive.

The best compromise of quality and performance would be a 750 G Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive - it you win all space extra but significantly faster that it has integrated caching disk solid state drive.

  • Satellite Pro A10: Question about upgrade HARD drive

I want a bigger hard drive, but xp home edition preinstalled. If I change the hard drive I don't think that the recovery disc would work to re install xp. How can I do this without having to buy a new version of windows? Oh, it's a portable satellite pro spa10.

Sorry, but why you are suggesting that the recovery CD will not recognize the new HARD drive?
The fact is that if the BIOS will recognize the new HARD drive then you will have no problem for the recovery and the installation of the OS.

If you want to upgrade the HARD drive, you must use a compatible. Then everything simply initialize-towards the top of the recovery CD and the operating system will install on the new HD disc.

  • Satellite P20 upgrade hard drive

I have a 20 P with 60 GB hard drive, which fills up quickly.
Can I switch to one of the largest new HD such as

    Toshiba 100 GB MK1032GAX?

I also guess that my standard would be IDE and I can't use S - Ata?
The BIOs supports this size of HD?

    Thanks, Birgit (starting the computer)

    Hi, Birgit

As far as I know just newer models of laptops have 100 GB hard drives. I had last year to P20. Nice unit.

In my view there should not be any problems but of course try to contact the after-sales Service of Toshiba partner in your country. They have experience with the hardware upgrade.

Please let us know if the upgrade will be successful.

    Thank you

  • Satellite P100-332: Upgrade HARD drive and 4 GB of RAM

    Hello

    I'm new to the forum...
Well, I want to change 2 things on my Toshiba Satellite P100-332

    1. I have 2 GB of RAM at 533 mhz and I saw on Everest, as well as on the information that I put up. 4 GB RAM 667 mhz. If I want to ask if theres no limitation about to use a special brand of RAM? Or can I use any laptop RAM to 667 mhz? I buy 2 DIMM 2 GB 667, to stay with 4 GB RAM 667 mhz.

2 - my laptop came with a 4200 RPM ATA hard drive and I want to know if I can change my hard drive to another as one with 7200 RPM SATA as a http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?prodID=7434 and I have not seen yet if the Board supports, but does anyone know if I can put one like this?

    Hello

    (1) the Satellite P100-332 RAM can be upgraded up to 4 GB and you can also use the modules of 667 Mhz because AFAIK the FSB supports 667 MHz also.
But the fact is that Windows 32-bit (Vista and XP) would see only 3.2 GB due to the limitation of the 32 bit OS.

    (2) the laptop supports the SATA HDD controller and this is why you must use a SATA HDD. But usually it s no matter if the HDD SATA supports the 7200 RPM. In my opinion, you should be able to use these 7200 RPM HARD drive.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro A120-107: Question about upgrade HARD drive

    Hello world

I have a 120-107 I am generally satisfied but the hard drive is too small and I think the upgrade in about 100 GB. What should I look for when buying? Any suggestions on the best drive to get? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

    Hello

"you just have to take care, that you buy a Sata Drive in the"form factor"2.5". That's all.
As I know, the biggest that drive was delivered with this machine was a 120 GB SATA drive.

Regarding the manufacturer: do not hesitate to take all the manufacturers that you like. The best would be Toshiba at all ;)

    Welcome them

  • Cannot install recovery image on my Equium after upgrade HARD drive

    Hello

I just installed a new hard drive for my Toshiba laptop Equium I contacted Toshiba who informed me that I could mount up to 1 TB, I opted for with a 500 GB at halfway.
After installing the drive I inserted the disc of recovery after a while, it was loaded with the operation completed successfully message. Next message put in place windows could not configure windows to run on this computer hardware. Then windows could not complete the installation to install windows on installation, this restart of the computer...

At the end of the restore process a message tells me to remove the recovery disc and output as soon as I get the laptop stops and doesn t re boot automatically. During the next restart windows message Vista starts for the first time then the cycle starts again. I tried to reload several times recovery according to the instructions, but not good.

    Any help much appreciated

I put t know which model of laptop you have, but if the recovery image is Vista, it must be quite old model, maybe Equium A200.
To be honest I didn't experiment with the upgrade of the HARD drive on older models, but I can imagine the image recovery are a problems with hard drives with huge capacities.

Display please model name and which HDD you inside now.
By the way: if possible, try to install Win7 using Microsoft installation disc. I m it will be safe works without any problem.
