  • HP Deskjet 2540 all-in-one: HP Deskjet 2540 Scan works only in Windows 10

Have upgraded to Windows 10 (not sure if 32 or 64 bit).  Now cannot scan.  Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, loading HP Print and Scan and HP Support Assistant doctor and does everything that is asked.  However, the software that load every time is just the basic application that allows printing - it shows not all the scanning application.  Tried to use the scan software very basic own Windows, which communicates with the scanner and scans indeed, but not in PDF format (VERY base).  Help, please.

Welcome to the HP community @Hippy79,

I understand the printing software will not fully installed for your Deskjet 2540 on your system Windows 10, causing problems of scanning software and I would try to help! Here are my suggestions for you to try. When you are finished, please let me know the results and problems or errors that you may encounter!

First step: clean boot, restart the PC and try the install again.

    1. start by typing "msconfig" in the search box of Cortana, and then click MSConfig (run command)
On your keyboard press Windows + R key at same time and type Msconfig in the run window, and then click OK or press ENTER.

    2. now, choose Selective startup

    3. Remove the check of the Load Startup items

    4. click on the Services tab

    5. check "hide all Microsoft Services" and then click on disable all

    6. click apply , then OK

7 restart the PC and temporarily disable firewalls or antivirus programs

8 run the Installation Wizard for Windows HP printer to install the printer

9 turn on the firewall and start services

Second step: you unregister and re-register the Windows Installer Service:

    1. hold down the Windows key + R to fill the box "Run" and type cmd.exe, and then click OK.
    2. at the command prompt, type msiexec /Unregister , and then press ENTER.
    3. at the command prompt, type msiexec/regserver, and then press ENTER.
    4. at the command prompt, type exit and press ENTER to close the command prompt.
    5. run the Wizard for Windows HP printer installation

Step 3: run System File Checker Scan (up to 3 times) to repair the corrupted system files:
    1. go to start
    2. type CMD
3 right-click and run as administrator
    4. to check and repair the OS type sfc/scannow (note the space between sfc and ' / ')

You may need to run this upward to 3 times to solve all the problems

When finished, it will say one of three things
Windows did not find any breach of integrity (a good thing)
Windows resource protection found corrupt files and repair the (good)
Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them (not a good thing)

    Try to reinstall the printer.

Step 4: activate the built-in Windows administrator account

    source

    1. first of all, you'll need to open an administrator mode command prompt by right-clicking and choosing "run as Administrator" (or use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Enter in the search box).

Note that it works the same in all versions of Windows. It just search for cmd and then do a right-click on the icon of the command prompt in the start menu or the boot screen.

    2. If you are in Windows 8.x or 10 you can click on the Start button and choose to open a command prompt in this way.

    3. now type the following command:

NET user administrator / Active: Yes

    4. you should see a message that the command completed successfully. Log out, and you will now see the administrator as a choice account.

You will notice that there is no password for this account, so if you want to leave it enabled, you must change the password.

    Try to reinstall the printer.

  • DeskJet 2540: Scanning error

Nothing wrong with printing - the computer recognizes that she and I can print etc. However, I am unable to do two things:
    1. install the wireless connection
2 do the analysis. When you use the "print and Scan Doctor", I get this message:
Driver error: the scan driver is unable to communicate with the product.

I removed and reconnected the power cord and restart the computer, but it still does not work.

I jumped the scan after that and found that everything (except Driver and HP Twain Scan error check) has a green check mark.

Would be grateful for the help. Thank you!

  • HP Deskjet 2540: Scanning with Hello multifunction

I'm trying to set up my second HP Deskjet 2540 on Mac OS X 10.10. I can see the printer in the Add Printer dialog box and it works as a printer when adding, but it only offers the possibility to add it as a 'Hello' instead of the meaning of "Hello multifunction" OS X does not provide the functionality of the device scan. My other office seemed to offer it and therefore the ability to analyze using the construction in Mac OS X tools rather than install the suite complete driver HP.

How can I get this also disabled option Hello multifunction printer?

When it is installed with just 'Hello', showing that 'gender' scanning option is not present in the printer dialog box.

I managed to find a useful thread

    http://www.Mac-forums.com/forums/OS-x-operating-system/318645-HP-OfficeJet-8600-scanner-will-not-work-OS-x-Yosemite.html

The key for me was installing HP v3.0 for OS X printer drivers after the package has been installed the all-in-one Hello was displayed when you try to install the printer and "Scan" option now displays in the section 'Printers and Scanners' for my DJ 2540.

    I hope this helps others.

  • DeskJet 2540: Ink cartridges Deskjet 2540 because out of the box

I just implemented the Deskjet 2540 I bought yesterday, using the black and tricolor cartridges 301 which is entered in the box. Both cartridge lights are flashing now, and I get the error message that cartridges have failed. I tried to remove and reinsert the cartridges, power cycling the printer according to the instructions in the HP support and gently wipe the contacts on the cartridges. Nothing has worked. It seems that too much of a coincidence that the two print cartridges are defective right out of the packaging. Any ideas?

Time to take it for a refund or a replacement.

  • DeskJet 2540: Scanning problem

I recently bought the 2540, set up and it works fine.  Well, fine as printer and copier... not like a scanner.  The booklet accompanying indication on digitization, and there is no manual online to download.  It says "scan" on the matter, but no guidance on how to analyze.  Sense please, anyone?

Hello @YolandaLand welcome to the Forums of HP, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see that you have questions about your scan feature.  I would like to help!

I recommend to remove printer ink cartridges and reset the power supply.  Unplug the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug back in the printer. Make sure that you connect the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any surge protector or power bar.

I suggest also download and run the HP print and Scan Doctor.

Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting operations. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • DeskJet 2540: deskjet 2540 - how to stop the printing of 'print quality page' feature is implemented.

New printer that is connected to the desktop Linux [Ubuntu 14.10] cable and everything works fine. But when switched on it automatically prints a "print quality page. I read the online help to prevent what gives think I scans the document and pressing / or two scan buttons to stop cela automatic printing, but nothing helped. Is there a proper procedure available somewhere to guide the user through all that is needed to stop this waste of paper and ink?

I had already tried these solutions suggested, but even after power off / on a couple of times, nothing had changed. Mystically then when I turned on for use a few days more late the test print had been removed - weird or what?

  • DeskJet 2540: Problem of cartridge Deskjet 2540

I bought a carton of color HP301XL real alternative with my new printer a year ago 2540 (John Lewis - & I have every two years warranty with them).  A few months ago, when the ink of the trial missed, (& while the printer was still under warranty HP), I installed the new cartridge and it worked fine for a while.

A week or two there is the printer will not operate and displays a message indicating that the cartridge is empty and that it replaces. I use the print color VERY sparingly. The ink level display showed a lot of remaining ink and I did not see how the cartridge might have suddenly run out of ink.

I scoured the suggested remedies: clean contacts cartridge and printer (distilled etc.). After several attempts to clean-up, the printer started working again for a day or two, but then the almost nine (genuine HP) black cartridge empty also showed. More cleaning and the printer worked again for a day or two, showing both nearly full cartridges, ink indicators.

Since then I could not print and everytime I try, I get a variety of messages telling me the cartridge is empty or not a part of HP, or it is a cartridge 'more' and must be replaced.

It takes a lot of my time and I have other things to do than mess trying to convince the printer to work.

Could you help please, before that I resort to contact John Lewis for help and a replacement printer as possible?

    Hi @ILIL,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums, I understand your frustration and want to help you with the HP Deskjet 2540 and problems with the cartridges that you encounter.

I'll see you when you started running on the problem, you have repeated the cleaning process several times. When you clean or align the print heads that shoot the ink cartridges for these maintenance tasks, that's why you saw the depletion of ink. To get a better understanding of take a look below:

  • HP Deskjet 2540: Enlarge/reduce the size of the document during scanning.

Is it possible to enlarge/reduce size of document on the Deskjet 2540? My wife uses this function to its sewing patterns. If not able, could someone please recommend software?

    Thank you

    Hello

No function zoom, you 100% het (size) of the original when scan. No need to buy a software, you can use Windows Paint to increase/decrease the file scanned.

    Kind regards.

  • HP Deskjet 2540 don't Scan

    Hello

I just got this today.  Prints fine, but it doesn't scan.  I've tried printing & scanning doctor several times, but it will not solve the problem.

How do I get this to analyze?

    Thank you

    Hello AsusMan,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you are unable to scan a document using the Deskjet 2540. I will do my best to help you! What is your operating system on your computer? Windowsor Mac?

I recommend the continuation of this entire HP document on an error occurred while scanning "Message appears when scanning on the computer via a USB connection in Windows. "

I know that you are able to scan a document using a Wi - Fi connection, but you want to ensure that the software is correct when a USB cable is connected. At the end of this document, it does not specify to uninstall/reinstall the software. (Only if you reach the end of this document.)

Please post your results, I'll be looking forward to hear from you.
