DeskJet f380 recognized as printer, but not scanner

I have a F380 all-in-one on my network connected to an old XP box. I have a new box of Win7 that I am connected to the network, and although I can add the printer as the printer, it is not recognized as a scanner. The function 'Add a device' HP is useless because it is looking for a USB connection to this computer - added that a network device is not an option. Control Panel Add a device function does not see the printer. When I browse through the network of the XP machine, I can see the printer (it's how I added it as a printer) but there is no option to add as a scanner.

When I open the HP Solution Center, it is said that for a network installation, put in the installation CD. I do this, but Setup never made the system requirements because it is an older drive and it do not recognize Win7, and none of these compatibility options can move.

UPDATE: I downloaded the HP Windows 7 installation program, which includes a network option, but it does not find the printer on the network. Meanwhile, I can still print it. Why is it so hard...?

Thank you.

Hi madmatt32171,

It is not easy to sharing the printer from XP to Windows 7. I suggest that you install the USB printer to Windows 7 computer using the software on the link below and follow the Microsoft document for installation printer sharing. By installing the printer on the Windows 7 computer, this will install the drivers for the printer when you go do the printer sharing session. I would like to know if you are successfully able to install this printer on the Windows 7 USB computer?

  • DeskJet F340 AiO will print but not scan

I recently got a new Macbook pro OS 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard) and hooked up to my old printer to it. Previously, I had been printing/scanning out of a Macbook under Leopard, I think that (circa 2006).

Printing works fine, but when I try to scan a picture I still get the same error. HP Scan Pro appears, the scanner starts a buzz and do its thing, but on that Mid-scan a window pops up that says: "Sorry, an unknown error has occurred" and abandons him. I downloaded and installed the software on the HP site for this printer when I first connected it up to my new computer, so I don't think that I am devoid of software. I have reset the system print, uninstalled/reinstalled the software and deleted and then added the printer to my preferences system, all to nothing does not.

Anyone know what this mysterious "uknown error" might be and how I could fix this? Thanks in advance!

    Hello Citimba,

On the main screen on the printer, press return, cancel, back, back button successively. You see Help menu, press the ok button, then use top / down arrow button to find the menu reset, reset complete semi selection and press the ok button.

It's troubleshooting last step which I recommend. If this does not solve your problem unfortunately you will need to replace the printer.

    Hi @Sajapand @ddegan

I see that you both scan problems after upgrade to Windows 10, and I may be able to help.

Most of the products have updated software available on the HP support Web site for Windows 10.

I also saw a few posts that say Windows 8.1 driver works for Windows 10 as well, then you could try also.

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan doctor to diagnose and troubleshoot printing and scanning problems. I recommend you to download and run the HP print and Scan Doctor , if she doesn't fix it automatically I would know what errors or messages that you receive.

  • All OfficeJet5610v in a HP: HP printer will print but not copy

HP printer will print, but not copy.  This computer printout, will be printed over the clouds, will analyse and will fax, very well. However, he suddenly stopped making copies. The scanner bar through the glass and lights, but he won't have a copy. All pages Gush in white.

    Hello @MTAI,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I would like to help you today to address the issue of copies in white that you encounter during the copy of your HP Officejet 5610v all-in-One Printer. To be honest, this problem looks more because of printing system, rather than a failure of the copy. The reason is because the copy uses the same exact material like scanning components. Because you are able to scan without problem on your computer Windows 8.1, we know that copy/scanning mechanism works within your printer. However, when you print from your computer, if the document is sent to your printer as a file of type 'image' the ink color is used to 'do' or 'enrich' the black ink. Therefore, your machine may be appearing in print in fine black ink of your computer, when in reality, it's just the color ink making the black color. When you copy from your printer, if you decide to make a copy of only black ink black will be used. If you choose to make a color copy will only color ink. To check if the cartridges and the print in your printer system working properly, I'll make you start troubleshooting by a quality diagnostic report print to your printer. Can I please you follow the steps below.

How to print a report of quality diagnostic:

    1. Make sure the product is on and not used, plain white paper loaded.
    2. On the Control Panel, support on * and #, then press 1, 2, and 7.
    3. Press the right arrow key () until the reports displayed on the control panel and press OK.
    4. Press the left arrow button () until the vpp self test displays on the control panel and press OK. The test page will print.

    • (1) printed by the right cartridge
    • (2) printed by the left cartridge
    • If this report print with color and black: that the problem you are experiencing is not caused by your printing system. On the contrary, there may be a problem of programming that takes place within your printer which is originally the function copy to fail, while the scan function continues to work. Can I please have you check on your computer that your scan function always works right now.
    • If this report prints with lack of color or lack of black ink: that the problem you are experiencing is actually caused by a conflict of printing system in your printer, rather than a failure of the copy. To solve this problem please can I you click here. Once the support document opens, please run through the second step, step 3, step 4 and step 5. This includes measures void under the steps listed to complete. Once the troubleshooting is complete please try to copy again.

Please reply to this message with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hear from you!
