  Before I bought my new computer with windows 8, I used to have the desktop icon in my taskbar (very useful for when I have a lot of windows open at the same time and need to access the icons on my desktop).  I would click on the desktop icon in the taskbar and hey presto all other open windows minimize all without the need to reduce to a minimum to each of them individually.   First, you have to run two anti-virus programs.  This is NOT recommended.

  Second... you state one of them is Microsoft Security Essentials.  If this is the case, you can't turn on Windows Defender because MSE already made defender and stops automatically Defender because it is no longer necessary.

  Difficulty of these 2 things and your problem should be solved.
