• Add account causes the desktop icons disappear

  I added a second administrator account on my computer windows vista laptop and when I connect to my original account almost all my desktop icons disappear.  I do a restore to a previous point and they come back but I lose the second account.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I was going to use a single account for home and one for work, but at this point I can't do.

  I found the cause of her mysteriously disappear from the Windows 7 desktop icons and the reason why the Show Desktop icons now and then get UN-ticked.

  INFRARECORDER is! Try for yourself, when you start Infrarecorder and close the bottle, go take a look at 'See the desktop icons', it is not checked (but the icons are still there). Check it on again and start Infrarecorder... He is not checked again.

  This Windows 7 "bug" is irritating for me since the beginning and now I found the cause: it is Infrarecorder that causes this problem.

  Oh! If you think it's a Virus/Malware then take your HARD drive internal to another machine and have it is scanned with a good Antivirus updated. If nothing else works the hard way is to format your machine.

  Thank you for taking the time to help me with my problem.

  I tried method 1 and it did not help, I tried method 2 and I received an error message indicating that the sfc scan has failed and method 3, returned a negative virus detection.

  Out of pure frustration, I pulled the cables at the back of the computer and left the cable VGA/SVGA male PC to another port on the computer (at the bottom of the computer toward the upper left side), and it seems to have done the trick - why I do not know?

  Since the cable, the computer has been running at 100%, and the problem seems to have corrected itself.

  So sorry to hear that you have a question also that all your desktop icons are missing, but also your photos follow these steps using the system restore and see if you can get everything go back to start, run, type this line exactly as it appears without quotes "c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" then follow the steps up to a point where the computer work and I hope that the computer works as you had it.   Whenever I turn on my laptop (I have Vista 64) my desktop icons are invisible. I have to right-click, select this option to make the invisible icons (even if they are already), and then repeat the process to choose to make visible again. After that, they reappear and are normal, but sometimes they disappear periodically while the laptop is as well. How can I fix it?

  Here are the step by step to do the checking of the filesystem, sfc/scannow:

  Start button > Search box type cmd > look up, do a RIGHT click on cmd.exe > click on Run As Administrator > in this black and white cmd window, tap the flashing pormpt sfc/scannow > press the ENTER key.
  Note: there is a space between 'sfc' and ' / '.
  To sit and wait. It will take time.
  When finished, exit the cmd window.
  Reboot (restart your computer)

  On my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, SP1 system, automatic reorganization and snap to grid are unchecked.  And I don't have problems with icons on a restart.  I have problems when I access my system in my home using a VPN and the DRC.

  Sometimes when I connect, I find that most of my desktop shortcut icons have disappeared and the few remaining ones are reorganized.  It happens every time and I did not understand a common denominator as to when it occurs.

  I'm back with yet another question.

  I've recently converted to Windows 7 from XP Pro and have had problems. This last is rather strange. It seems only to happen Monday a.m.. The shortcut icons disappear from the desktop. Today - Monday - they have waited until between 10 and 11:00 go AWOL, but have been known to leave earlier.

  I tried a few remedies offered online following (Yes, the 'Show icons' box is checked) and so far nothing seems to improve the situation.

  I am currently using Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

  I use the software on a Dell Optiplex 380 which has been upgraded to 2 GB of RAM - processor is an Intel Core 2 DUO 2.93 GHz - it is a 32-bit operating system.

  I managed to find a number (KB 2670504) on the Microsoft Web site. This document or software fix or anything that was to offer a solution to the problem, but I wasn't able to find it on the Web site.

  I can only say that I had no problems like this with the faithful XP software. It ran like a champ. But I guess time marches on.

  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
