Determine the target of the shortcut in the Start Menu

I have shortcuts to folders in my Start Menu.  They seem to be of two different types, judging by their icons, although I don't know what circumstances lead to one type over the other.

The 'good' type have icons that look like a single file.  I can pull up to its properties, the image of a folder appears with a small arrow in the lower left corner and there is a target field showing the trajectory of the target.

The 'bad' type have icons that look like a single file with a preview of the content.  I can pull up the properties, the picture shown is always a file with preview and there isn't * no. * Target field showing the trajectory of the target.

For both types, if I go down the shortcuts, the path in the address bar is not the true path, it's a false path that looks like it branches in the Start Menu (where the shortcut is) i.e. c:\Documents and Settings\Ma.F\Start Menu\TheShortCutName.  Two shortcuts are in folders on a network drive.

  1. How can I get the path of the target for the 'wrong' type of shortcuts?
  2. Is it possible to have the address field display the actual path instead of making it look like the folder is located in the Start Menu?

My mistake.  Records that have not shortened * resident in the Start Menu.  They contain simply other shortcuts or folders of shortcuts.  Answer to the question #1.

So, if I go down the shortcuts, the actual path of the target * is * displayed in the address bar.  Who responds to question #2.

It doesn't seem to be a way to cancel a thread in this forum.  I'm sorry that this erroneous thread drag.

  • all desktop icons not missing, run any command in the start menu, can't create desktop shortcuts

All the desktop icons are missing, unable to create desktop shortcuts, without run command in the start menu... no info

If system restore is turned on and you can go back enough, restore the computer to an earlier date using Safe Mode.

Restart the computer and start typing the key F8, select Safe mode with command option. If you are prompted to select an operating system, use the arrow keys to select the right pair and press ENTER. Log in as administrator or with an account that has administrator credentials. At the command prompt, type % systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. Follow the prompts to restore your computer to an earlier date.

  • Why a shortcut for Microsoft Update doesn't appear in the start menu as it always has in previous installations?

In this latest new installation of Windows XP Pro when I upgraded from Windows Update, Microsoft Update no item does appear in the start menu in previous installations? Can I remove Microsoft Update and then reinstall it? Can I manually install the shortcut? I'm comfortable editing the registry.

Off topic, I know, but you can work some magic for another problem. When I boot, when half of the icons appear in the notification area, I get a message that Windows Firewall is disabled. After the last icons appear, the message disappears and the firewall turns on again. It's annoying, and I'd love to [repair]. Thank you.

Assuming that the message "the Windows Firewall is disabled" comes from the Security Center (Windows), looks like you see what we call a "race condition". Essentially, Security Center is loading before the Windows Firewall was fully charged (may be due to the amount of NAV system resources then uses what he loads and runs his own control over the firewall).

Until the warning goes away in a few minutes, don't worry, you see a normal behavior (for Windows XP).

  • Windows XP SP3. Space above the start menu is empty, some programems wont shortcuts or all programs.

Recently installed Office 2010, but need technical assistance. Tech has created a new user account 'my computer', but on my screen to connect normal admin, space in the start menu above all rest programs empty. In addition, some desk top of page shortcuts will not run, no programs will work directly from the main menu.  Additionally, Windows update will not work. Outlook will start the new screen of the computer user, but not my normal log on screen.  I tried a number of alternative, none succeeded.  It seems that the fundamental problem is the connection to my main user on screen log has somehow been disconnected and I'm unable to re-establish the connection. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Shortcuts in the desktop or the Start Menu has not created

    Hello

We use vWorkspace 7.2. and AppPortal for access applications on 2003 TS in transparent window mode. All published applications are accessible from the thick client or VDI computers. When I assign an application to vWorkspace folder, the icon appears correctly in AppPortal. Problem starts when I attribute the same request to "Remote Desktop files", in this case no entries are created, nor to the desktop or the Start Menu or any other option. When I change AppPortal to work in integrated desktop mode all entries are properly created.

There are already a ticket about this Quest (CaseID:887952) support. After many hours of phone calls from the Technical Department explained what I need is available only when all of the TS Office are published. I find it hard to believe that I did the same thing easily with other 3rd party broker connection software. What is your experience, do you have "Remote Desktop Folder" work without providing complete desktop TS?

    Best regards

    Adrian Tonina

    Adrian,

AppPortal is designed to run on your client computer of the end user and is able to show the shortcuts in the user interface or on the desktop of the client operating in desktop integrate mode (DI).  When running in mode of DI, only applications that are designated for the integration of office will have shortcuts created on the client for desktop/menu start.  You can specify in the properties of a managed application, Desktop Integration step.  Note that only applications that are assigned to the Connector vWorkspace records will be created through AppPortal.

Applications that are assigned to the Standard and customized remote office records are created through our configuration of the Shell (pnshell) module, and their shortcuts are created on the remote (TS or VDI) desktop computers.  If configured properly, you will see them on the entire desktop of the remote session.

  • Pin a network to the start menu shortcut

Everyone figured out how to pin a netwrok to the start menu shortcut?  I tried to do it the way they say it, right click and select PIN to start menu, but the option is not there for programs on the network.  I was able to find Documents and Settings/User/StartMenu and I dropped the military in there, but they are not yet appearing on the start menu.  Help, please.
    Thank you
    Jessica

Create a folder on your desktop called networking programs or files, and then drag the icons for the files or programs in there.  You can then create a new toolbar by right-clicking on the taskbar, go to toolbars and add the new toolbar.  From there, all just point to your folder on your desktop and the appropriate files will appear in your taskbar tasks.  It's not pretty, but it works.

  • Arrange program shortcuts in the list of all programs on the start menu

If I organize my program shortcuts on the list of all programs from the menu start when I reboot they are all changed back.

Folder "CyberLink PowerDVD 9" is placed on the list of all programs on the start menu.

Now I have two folders "CyberLink PowerDVD 9" in all the programs one at the root of the list and the other in the folder 'Media' from the list.

How to stop windows 7 to change the list of all programs on the start menu?

Is it only occurs for the shortcut of CyberLink, or perhaps for each shortcut where you changed a location?

You can check this: Start > right click on all programs > you can select Open and open to all users > you can check is not listed in the two location?

Shortcuts usually appear at the previous location after a few updates to the specified application.

  • How to display a hidden shortcut that is pinned to the Start Menu?

HIDDEN PIN TO THE MENU SHORTCUT START

How to display a hidden shortcut that is pinned to the Start Menu? This problem occurs very simply but does not quite simply. I've pinned a shortcut to the Start Menu before you uncheck the hidden attribute (knew I had) causing the shortcut to be recorded without being visible. When I tried to pin it again I was alerted to his presence by the fact that the second pinning made an extension of title (2). When I tried to change the title, I received the message that a link of this title was already present. I don't want to stay as a situation lasting this is why I need instructions on how to change it. I could just change the title of the second pinning something close but different but then I would have two shortcuts to the same program pinned on my Start Menu, without being able to be removed. I just * because if I can tell. I could uninstall the program and then run another program looking for broken shortcuts to 'fix' and then (I guess that means deletion when they can't be 'fixed') but I would like to avoid the extra steps for pedestrians to the advantage of learning a new technique of Windows if such jurisdiction exists. Could use this help as soon as POSSIBLE. Thank you.
