DFSR and files that begin with numbers

I have a DFSR configuration and it works fine except that when I went to check if all files have been sync'd I noticed none of the files that begin with a number are replicated from the original host to the new.

It is the filter that is in place:
' ~ *, master, *.tmp.
That should not exclude these files.
TIA

  • XP host does not have any file that begins with "VM".

Problem of crazy that I can't understand.  Under XP Pro SP3 on a desktop computer and try to install VMPlayer 3.01.  If I try to run the file that I downloaded I get a warning that "this application has failed to start because the application configuration is incomplete.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. "This exact file installs without problem on my XP Pro laptop.

Here are the best, if I rename the file, so it does NOT begin with "VM", it will install.  But then if I try to turn on a guest operating system, I get an error because the other files that start with "VM" are started and fail.  If I rename notepad.exe to vmnotepad.exe it will not work!

I uninstalled VMplayer and tried again with the same results.  I even tried a few VMware cleaner utility but no change.

    Any ideas?  Thank you.

If you actually surround the search term ~ *. * with quotes "~ *.» ' * ' it should work here.

  • Why can not only search for files that begin with a particular character or Word?

We have always been able to do in previous versions of Windows by typing: S *. *

In Windows 7 If this is something that has a ' anywhere in the file path or name.

As you have discovered, Windows indexes now better informed than before. So what was once a file name filter is now a search through file names, content and more - a bit like a search engine.

If a search for S. * may train with aSunday Slippery Slopes.docx or Fans.jpg C:\ path.

Fortunately, you can precede your search term with the domain that you particularly interested. For example, try System.FileName: ~<> or filename:F *. *

Is there a program that will allow me to recover programs and files that have been written too by a full system restore?  I had to do a complete system restore, because the computer has been locked up in a start of the closed loop cycle.

    Hi Apmech9,

    1. don't you restore the computer to factory settings?
    2. do you just restore the computer to an earlier time by using the system restore feature in Windows XP?

If you restore the computer to its factory settings, you will then get in touch with the manufacturer of the system for more support options.

If you had just restored the computer to an earlier time using System Restore, you can undo the system restore to revert back the changes.
