Dialog box "Do you want to open this file" is displayed for many common shortcuts

I have no idea what caused it, or when it happened.  Open mspaint directly works fine. It's just the shortcuts that do not work.

    As I mentioned, the dialog box appears after every restart.  It occurs after I entered my credentials to logon and proceeded to windows.  It seems to be pretty late in the boot process that things like the chat programs and widgets are fully charged at the time wherever the dialog box is displayed.

    The dialog box appears to be the 'Open with' dialog box in Windows 7 standard.

    Specifically the dialogue reads as follows:

    Choose the program you want to open this file:

    Samhrutha,

    I solved the problem.

    I found that when creating a new user, no longer had the open with dialog box.

    I started the process of resolution of a corrupted user profile (which seems little more than creating a new and copy and paste a few old values), when I decided to try one last thing.

    I logged on my account corrupted again and when the 'Open with' dialog that I open the file with Notepad.  I tried to "save under" to locate the file and found that it was located in C:\Users.  Something in recent weeks seems to have put a file without an extension, called "Mathew" (my log in name) in this folder, and it began when I started windows.

    I have since deleted the file and am no longer get the "Open with" dialog

  • When the operating system starts, a window opens asking me to "choose the program you want to open this file: file: rundll32.exe.".

    original title: 'Open with' problem...

    My office was attacked by malware. I have run virus scan and all updates that were available. When the operating system starts, a window opens asking me to "choose the program you want to open this file: file: rundll32.exe.". There are recommended programs and other programs, but I'm fairly certain that none of them are correct. Can anyone help direct me in the right direction to solving this problem? Every program I try to open, translates into an opening by asking the same question, but the file name changes to whatever program I am trying to the window. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • How can I replace the mime types of server, always get the mp3, rar, sid, bin files directly in the dialog box "where do you want to save this file?"

    I used to be able to click on MP3 files, the way back when, and Firefox asks where I wanted to save. Nowadays, it opens a new tab with a flash drive.
    By clicking on the "unknown" files, like .sid, .prg, .zip, .rar is ' this is a BIN file. [Cancel] [Save] ». It does not give me a check box for "always do this".
    I would like that option to edit so that certain types of files, such as PDF, regardless of mimetype, always get opened in a new tab if you click. Also some types of files, based on the extension, always go directly to the dialog box "Where you want to save the file?", without worrying if there is a viewer or a builtin player or not. In my Firefox (41.0.1 14.04LTS 32-bit Ubuntu) I have never the choice "do this for these files always" more.
    Googling led me to delete my file mimeTypes.rdf and since file extensions can even "well known", such as .zip, are treated as BIN files and I get the box Cancel-or-Save for those too - again without the choice of "always save the BIN files.

    These files are send as Content-Type: application/octet-stream and Content-Disposition: attachment;
    To send files in this way, you cannot save an automatic action.
    You can see that in network monitor.

    Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="TURRICAN_AMIGA_PORT.sid";
    Content-Type: application/octet-stream

    ... \ick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Mozilla Firefox.lnk

    I say YES and it opens... until next time, when he asks again.

    But a double click on the shortcut of Firefox on my desktop doesn't only!

    I tried to create the pinning of the original exe or shortcut on the desktop or the StartMenu option.

    All have them!  And it has worked perfectly well for years, but I had to reinstall FF today and now it goes.

    I found a column that actually addressed this and he said to go to the CMD prompt and enter:

    ICACLS '%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start start\program' /Setintegritylevel (OI) (CI) Medium

    Tried without success.

    Another site told me to uncheck the box that says "ask before opening" but there is no such box on the pop-up.

    Maybe because it's a .lnk instead of a .exe?  I do not know.

    Hi MiloInSanDiego

    The response of the creation of a new user account was because after the steps mentioned by Babu, you said in the post on Jan 3 that you get this message 'Do you want to allow the following program to make changes on this computer' like this could be due to the virus.

    By creating a new user account, if there is a corruption of the profile by a virus, it will be there in the new profile. This is the reason for the creation of a new user profile.

    If you are facing problems with Firefox, I suggest you to post the question in this forum for better support.
