Digitization of old photographs

I am a genealogist and part of the 'work' scans documents and old photographs everything in also archive the originals. I just got a box of old family photos and looking for a good method for scanning using my iPhone, C. 6

Does anyone do this?

I am considering a sturdy tripod or other device to hold the iPhone perfectly level. It must therefore be adjustable. Does anyone know of such a device?

The other end is the use of a piece of high-quality glass to flatten the photo or document and probably light filters to eliminate glare.

Thank you!

If you have a computer, you would be better to use a scanner. What is an iPhone 6 c?

Most all-in-One printers have an enlarge reduce function, but if you have access to a single and then scanning and printing to the selected size will give more options.

  • How to digitize records old vinyl record albums?

Hey everybody... I am trying to record some old albums vinyl to a USB... not having luck... is it still possible to do?... can't find a way to get it on a disc either... Thanks in advance... tj

Yes it is possible, but we need a lot more information before we can be of any use.  Of course, you have to play on a sort of hub.  This deck needs some kind of output connections.  You must then find an adapter that will result in the output to your computer entry tray, etc...

There is a low quality solution that may be easier.  If your turntable vinyl or has a plug stereo headphones, you can try to use it as input (MIC) on your PC.  All you need is the appropriate cable.

  • QUICK HELP! layer of color mixing, remove the burrs of old photo shirt.

It's for my friend whose father just passed away, I need it to be done as soon as possible.  I'm having a problem, try to remove a task from an old photograph, I use a layer of color mixing to preserve the natural wrinkle in the shirt, but the color of the layer is not appear correctly when I use the pipette on the main color of the shirt, which is not dirty. He released a light aqua blue. any help is appreciated

    DSC06299.jpg

The color will come out light on the layer of color mixing is because the color mode change only the color, not the clear values and dark of the underlying layer.

I would like to start with a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.

Once you have place look good enough, merge the adjustment with the layer of the image layer.

Simply select the edges of the defect and do not select too much at once.

After selecting a part of the dashboard, Edit > fill > Content Aware. You may need to go on some areas more than once with Content Aware.

And then do additional adjustments that may be required using the toning tools - Dodge, Burn, sponge. After that, the default should be much less noticeable.

Can someone tell me how to clean a very old photograph over 100 years which is covered with black spots everywhere. The faces are the most difficult and clothing.

The Photoshop desktop application would be the best tool to use for serious repair. You can download a trial version for 30 days here: Lightroom and Photoshop | Plan of creative photography of cloud of Adobe

I use Photoshop Fix to repair skin, here are my measurements:

    • Switch to tools of healing (bottom)
    • Heal spot automatically, is painting on the area to be repaired with your finger
    • If the tone & color do not match, click the tool room (downstairs)
    • Keep in the red zone (Spot Heal) > drag to a better replacement on the picture box
    • Once completed, I often use the rounded tool to blur evidence

I just created this little video to illustrate some of the tools. You cannot see where I am on the go, but red described area is replaced by the skin to other parts of the picture (until it fits).

Hello I am trying to install a slide scanner (2000) older.  The Kodak 3600 Film Scanner is discontinued, but the Kodak Professional services Web site, still has downloads for XP drivers.  I tried following this process, but it is not.  Would download installation/download XP Mode for Windows 7 help to solve my problem.

If the device is supported on SCSI, the SCSI interface is not virtualized and XP mode does not support this.

How the device connects to the computer?  Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7?

Here is some info of MVP MS on SCSI if you need.

This is my original post to the Group about what I discovered THAT SCSI regarding the basis devices and WIN 7 (x 86 and X 64); I had discovered already at this point that although these devices with appropriate SCSI cards and drivers, layer ASPI and device drivers and software would work without problems under Windows XP x 86, they wouldn not via virtual XP mode 32-bit Win 7 even if the devices were attached to and had installed in the host system WIN 7 drivers.  Regarding the virtual XP in WINDOWS 7 mode, it would be nice if we could install Win XP 32-bit SCSI drivers, the layer ASPI, the peripehral software and drivers on 32-bit XP virtual machine and have a material link to the device through its connection to the motherboard and BIOS in Windows 7 to allow the seemless uses the bit 32 SCSI device that works on an XP operating system to address real so as to allow to via copy and paste transfer operations out of the device to programs under the Win 7 OS.  This is particularly useful with regard to the flat scanners and film-editing many of the old yet functional models of SCSI-based devices, and still in use by users to capture and digitize documents and old photographs or films for the purpose of editing and adding image programs that are used under Win 7 - especially Win 7 X 64 so that the user can make use more 3 GB of RAM when processing large files.  Force users to keep and maintain a separate dedicated machince XP OS cannot be supported in order to be able to use devices that are based SCSI and is no longer be produced or marketed by USB or Firewire version...

  • Advice needed on scanning and organization of large amounts of family photos

I have about 4000 photos, I need to digitize and organize, and would appreciate information on the experiences of people with similar projects - specifically what scanners and software editing/organization work well (or not) and why. I am interested in scanning experience, naming, entering in the metadata tags / and storage on an external drive (or drive possible cloud) as effective as possible. I have a MacBook Pro towards 2012, running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6, processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDr2 memory

I waited for someone to answer, but no luck so far.

I think that, maybe, the question is too broad, but you hit on a lot of issues that I tried to respond in support of my own digitization projects. These are essentially old photos and family concert tickets, I've gathered that I want to geocode instead and add an event date to sort the pictures correctly in my reader, I now use pictures all to also store the main images in the form of files in folders.

One of the first things that you need to consider what is my final use, how will be I be display these carelessly or what their final destination, that is to say: the screen or print. Next, you will need to examine and decide what are your basic quality standards.  Is it an archiving project where you might want to get the maximum resolution to capture your images or you are looking for very high resolution - pixel specific pick - and go deep with it.  What types of files you save; jpg or RAW or another.

Don't forget the file type is like a box and the picture is in the box, you can have the same image quality in each type of file and each has positive points and negatives, jpgs are the most common, can display high-quality, but at the root with loss.

It is to you and how you want to store, manage and share.  You could take a sweeping super high ground - better as your scanner may take - and a large jpg copy for sharing, etc.

Depending on how you answer the above, in terms of desired scan quality, will affect what kind of scanner that you buy. I used several descent average range flat scanners, a versatile case and a wand at a crossing through of dock that I just got.

I decided quite a while that I'm not in the business of archive I'm in enjoy it there and share business. IF they look good in an email or on Facebook or on my big screen as screensaver, even for the large TV. Then, I have what I need. It is for me. Others feel differently. For me in the end, it's the time it took to take a sweeping super high quality in order to get an image, which overwhelms my screen and has a huge file size. You have to play and see what works for you.

I just got this scanner wand 1200 dpi with a dock charger and it quickly arranged a pile of concert tickets at its highest quality of scanning. I was happy with the initial results and I can't wait to make some pictures.

There are a lot of details, you can enter each of these topics, but here you say basically software that controls the scanner. On a flat bed I hope you can scan several small images at once by selecting them in the program. You select the output resolution, file type, and can perform a variety of other adjustments to the image, which some will be dictated by the source.  As the digitization of old photos 'black and white' in color.

You will need to consider certain issues of workflow here, the scanner software will generally look to create file names to sequential access to what you are scanning. If it's a large image at a time, you can name each or there may wish to work through a lot of dimensions and similar features and then mess with the baptism and the meta data later.  You will find what works best for you as enter you.

You have now all these files. For me, it was ticket_1 - 90.jpg who had to have their date, time and locations adjusted. I've been messing around with photos of geocoding for years and so far my favorite geogocder and meta-data tool is called photolinker http://www.earlyinnovations.com/photolinker/ that I started using it because I was using a geo - stay with my regular camera and I wanted to match the Geo-trail of the recorder for pictures and this tool does that very well , with tools for helpsync the time of the image and geolog times. or you can give it an address or a city or a block and he will score as many images you select. It will give them a geocode latitude and longitude (altitude in some cases) as well as the metadata for the region city of the State, etc.

It also gives you quick access to metadata, including tiles, descriptions, keywords, etc. and I do as well of this titration and marking here as I can. as well as the geocoding.  Dates are a very special case that I will come back soon.

So analysis stuff you give a whole bunch of files and you need to decide how you want to sort and store them. My family photos I usually sort in events and it is pretty easy because the images were of particular type of event and then something holidays. So I in my folder of photos folders called things like:

    1909 - Granma baby pictures

    1931_12_25-moms first Christmas.

    1952_07_21-dad comes from the service.

etc with this kind of naming structure. months of the year and day, if I know that it and the event.

The photos then if there are few have specific names for files. If it is more like '1986_07-Florida_ #1-72' and let the meter. If I can be precise date in each event, I try to do, since we are talking about scans and no pictures of digital cameras, if the clock is set right and phones that capture this info.

The deal with dates, as I mentioned earlier, can be a mess and I have found no real primer on how best to define and manage the dates on scanned images, but here is a part from what I understand. First of all remember that the dates of creation and modification in your finder associated with the file that contains the image, but not necessarily the image itself. Each image also has various sets of metadata that is stored with the images, called EXIFdata, this is where you find the geocoded and other data type keyword, you may be added, such as discussed above.

As I said I have use pictures formerly iPhoto to see my images now and it does not always play nice with dates, but I think I understood now that it uses a date edit EXIF, to place images in the long scenario.

Other non-traditional software I use for batch file renamed and full playback and editing of EXIF data are GraphicConverter 10 adata-and-more-on-your-mac/ https://www.lemkesoft.de/en/image-editing-slideshow-browser-batch-conversion-met

This should be a lot of things to get started, I've always wanted to write that down and happy to now have at hand. Many men of straw - for people to start to sting to, assisting us on the tools and means better or different. I hope. I also hope that this help find you your first steps. Good luck.

  • My photos got mixed after upgrade to El Capitan

Yesterday, I downloaded pictures from my camera to my iMac.  They added automatically the photos I had taken on my iPhone (through the cloud) today, I upgraded to El Capitan, in order to take advantage of the improved editing capabilities.  Today, some of my uploaded photos are only in all the photos in the album section and disappeared into the photos section.   In addition, all photos in albums are all mixed and cannot be reordered by date (ie: old photographs are mixed in the pictures I just took) I took more than 1000 pictures on this recent trip.  I can't imagine having to go through both of these sections to understand which photos are in one folder but not the other.  I wanted to make an album for the trip, now I can't figure out how to get all my recent photos in there.  I tried to reload the camera, and they say they are already loaded.  Help, please.  Obviously, I'm a novice user; Sorry if this makes no sense.

Don't know what you see but

All pictures and Photos are just two different views of the same library and unless you have corruption library each photo in one is in the other--noting that you can hide the pictures in Photos but they show in pictures

To check hidden photos look in the album "hidden".

To find pictures in Photos (years/Collections/Moments), select one from all the Photos and do a right-click - Select 'Show in the times' and the pictures will open in moments - usually, you'll see why you do not find it once you see where the on - is open moments but your selected photo isn't not to repair your database - backup the library of Photos and press the command and option keys while launching Photos and repair the database (note this will trigger a new download of ICPL for check the database is correctly synchronized)

Albums of the user can be sorted by ascending or descending date or by title - right click on the selection of the album option

And notice that picture contains a bug (or perhaps poor design) and that photos taken in a zone schedule and imported in a time zone different get Wonky kinds of photos with time information GPS that is different from the time zone of the system - if it's what you report to Apple because they certainly face this and more reports faster solution is likely to appear - http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

  • How can I change to a new Apple ID as I can't change my .mac/.me one according to the sons of discussion here?

    Hello Appleites (but not Applebites/bytes,

I am seriously considering changing my real AppleID (was: c * at least ten years) to something that better fits what I'm doing for the digitization of old Hollywood poster and illustrative art (I should say the age classic, not old - as in 20 to 40 years), given that I scan a lot and my name is Daniel , I thought that d***@icloud or me or mac would be easier to remember and type from a business card, etc.

I know it's a difficult process, so my question is how do I do that if I so wish? Create a completely new account on an Apple Store and then go to all devices and transfer all passwords and have as the new AppleID? This does not have to buy a separate mobile me package and just leave expires?

I could stay with the colorfulcomedians one, but I know it's hard for people to remember and type, besides it does not represent what I do very well.

    Thank you

  • Images scanning continuous hp 5530

Attempt to analysis of old photographs continuously from the computer, no screen of the printer, but with no go! It's quite a pain to do a new scan each time and rename each picture! UGH!

My old hp F2100 printer asks if you want to scan another element. If you did, it would have put it in the folder "Scan" with others and he number sequencially (scan1, scan2, etc.). The 5530 will not do that. The manual says you can after you click 'save', but I don't see any button to hit to do another scan. Driving me crazy!

Old printer has decided to stop scanning and can't seem to reinstall, where the new printer.

    Hello

He must analyze the images with figures and your prefix. For example, you have a whole bunch of photos that you tokk in Rome. You can select the prefix Rome and it will add 001, 002, 003... for images scanned as Rome001, Rome002, Rome003...

    To do this, please try

    (a) double-click the desktop printer icon.

    (b) select scan Document or Photo to the computer,

    (c), click Advanced (or settings...)

    (d) select the option for the name of the file and output file...

    (e) click apply/Ok

You can also scan several photos at once (for example: put 10cmx15cm 4 or 4 "x 6" photos on its glass surface and it will give you 4 files ").

    Kind regards.
