Disable the master password popup

Hi, this has always been a problem with FF. I share my PC. My partner has a master password. I don't. However whenever I use Firefox asks me the master password, and this repeats (times) everytime I open a tab for a site on which a defined password there. I have my own accounts and know my passwords. I don't want a master password and do not want to access its accounts. How can I cancel the application of the MP and just use firefox withouth the face with that annoying Member pop - up every few minutes! Its driving me crazy. Please save me. Thank you

This has happened

Each time Firefox opened

== to always

The only way to avoid the pop-up master password if you use two (all) the same profile is to disable the password manager.
Tools > Options > Security: passwords: "remember passwords for sites".
---
You must create a separate profile for each of you.

See:
http://KB.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
http://KB.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile ('Shortcut on the desktop')
---
If you need to have several open profiles at the same time then start the following instances with the - no - remote line switch.
You can send links from other programs to an instance of Firefox is launched with a - no.-remote, you must drag the links in a Firefox window in such cases.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Opening_a_new_instance_of_Firefox_with_another_profile

No, you cannot disable the master password with about: config.
You can do this only through the the "Options > Security" and you must enter the current Member.
If you would reset the MP, then all the passwords saved would be lost.

  • The new synchronization process and the master password do not mix

Article why I can't sync my passwords? linkified ~ J99 says that the password inhibits synchronization, which explains why the "password sync" option is grayed out, if the password is used. Then to syncv passwords that must disable the master password, i.e. by train to "empty".

    What speaks against the following:

    1. disable the password and let synchronization collect existing passwords
    2. activate the password
    3. do this on all the devices of interest

Finally, all devices should have 'more or less' synchronized passwords, while benefiting from the security provided by their main password. "Roughly", because the above procedure consecutively for devices A, B, C ends with B having a synchronized set passwords of A and B and C the game, containing people with disabilities of A synchronization, B and C (which is all of the passwords in the cloud). Given the fact we do not change passwords too often, so this shouldn't be a big problem. We can, for instance recovery procedure above for A at the end of the round.

"The problem of this bug is on the fact that we are no longer synchronized passwords if you have master-password enabled. We realize this is a significant limitation and we are working on a solution to bring things back to parity with the synchronization of the former. We do not take this issue seriously, and certainly, the challenge will be to store the credentials FxA in connection manager, so protected by the master-password as are other passwords. »

  • Saved passwords auto-entrez before that I wonder the master password for initial page loaded on opening the browser: is this a bug?

If I open Firefox and slelect a bookmark before I invite myself for the master password, I am often signed - in the site (e.g. stackoverflow) and then asked the master password. This is clearly not great security!

Hello, the connection information is stored in cookies, which are not guaranteed by the password (it protects only have access to the file that stores the passwords). If you are concerned about security, you can set firefox to keep the cookies only for the current session.

Enable and disable the cookies that Web sites use to track your preferences

  • Thunderbird 38.0.1 requires the master password to be entered twice after activation of Gmail OAuth

I have a Gmail (IMAP) and an iCloud (IMAP) TB account protected by a master password. Since the upgrade to to 38.0.1 and the configuration of the acct of Gmail for OAuth I find that when I run the application of TB he invites me for the password twice before that I can move forward. I tried to remove the iCloud acct and then he needed only the password entered once, but as soon as I have readded the iCloud acct invites more twice once for the password. It seems that you must now enter once for each account e-mail instead of after the period. It seems to be triggered by changing the Gmail to OAuth as previously he worked as documented (a single master password entry) with two e-mail accounts.

In fact, when launching first TB appears very briefly the form of drop down menu of master password and then immediately disappears (before), because then he slide down again to allow the first entry in the master password.

Good news - updated my Mac to 38.1 TB newly released solved the problem of the Thunderbird menu corrupted when you use StartupMaster 1.6.1.

Now I can use StartupMaster successfully to bypass the password multiple guest problem (bug #177175) at the launch of Thunderbird.

It is possible that there is a problem with key3db and signons.sqlite files that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.

In the Firefox profile folder, rename the files key3db and signons.sqlite.

You can add .old files (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) names or move them to another folder to make it possible to cancel the action.

You must define a new master password after renaming or removing the signons3.txt and all the currently saved passwords are lost.

If that worked, then you can delete the renamed files that are no longer needed.

    Thank you

    1. Click on the Firefox button, go to Options | Options | Security.
    2. Click the 'Exceptions' button and remove Facebook from the list.

The next time you go to Facebook and type your password, you should get the option to add to the list of passwords.

  • After you type the master password in session can force type master password once again without ending the current session and start new session?

Sometimes after using the password to access an account during a given session of firefox, I want to "repeal" this ability of automatic access (i.e. require type the password again once) without having to put an end to the current session and restart firefox.

It's nice to only have to type the password once per session, there are times when after launching an action that I would let the browser unattended for a short period but to prevent others to access sensitive information on other sites if they can't my master password. Note that this is not the same thing as "locking the browser. Currently, the only way I know to force it is to kill the session and restart the browser but it's not very satisfying if I really want to stay connected (allowed) to a particular site. I hope that adding a button in the Security tab "requires the master password for the current session" would be a simple solution to implement? Thank you for your attention.

You can connect from the software security device (e.g. click Cancel in the dialog box display the passwords) to force them to return to the MP once more.

Need to know how to disable the adminastrator password

Go to control panel, user accounts.

You will see the options there.  You must be logged on to this account and/or have the available password of course.
FYI-for your own PC security, it is often recommended that you keep a password for the user account at the time you need, but for everyday use, you use a standard user account.

  • Why do I see all of my passwords without the master-password with database synchronized with the PC who lit master-password?

I use Firefox with Firefox Sync on different PCs and master password is set early when I started to use Firefox.

Today, I installed Firefox for Android, allowed in Firefox Sync, open the Connections tab, "Show password" button waiting for my master password entry form and... I saw my password. And all the others.

The password has never been typed on the keyboard of the Android. Firefox has never been installed on the phone before. How is that possible? Firefox stores my master-password in the web? It is very very bad. Now, those who steal my sync account can see all my passwords even without the master-password.

Firefox for Android has no knowledge of the master password set up on your desktop Firefox. By pressing the button display the password displays the passwords.

If you don't want to use a master password in Firefox for Android, you can implement that. Click the 3 menu point in the upper right corner, select settings, select privacy, select password main use and then choose a password.

Passwords are encrypted before sending them to the service using your password synchronization Sync Mozilla's. The only data that Mozilla's Sync is fully encrypted and Mozilla or another party cannot decipher. When you connect to the synchronization of the encrypted passwords are downloaded and decrypted locally.

If you want the details there is a ton of documentation to https://github.com/mozilla/fxa-auth-server#firefox-accounts-server follow the links several first for depth in explanation of the service.

Make sure that you are not Firefox running in permanent private browsing mode (don't remember history).

    • Tools > Options > privacy > Firefox will be: "use the custom settings for history".
    • : Uncheck the [] "always use the private browsing mode.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.
