Disable Windows Defender

I'm having the problem of Windows/McAfee.  If I disable Windows Defender, how can I go about deleting items in the start menu?
Appreciate the help.

Hi BurrowD,

Thank you for using answers Forum.

Are what McAfee/Windows problem you referring?

You can prevent some programs from startup to startup Vista by checking to see if there is a shortcut in the startup folder by clicking Start > all programs > startup. You can safely delete or move icons on the desktop to run when you want.

You can prevent some positions loading using MSConfig, this is however not the recommended procedure.
You can click on start and type msconfig in the search field and click on the entry that appears near the top.
Then click on the Startup tab.

I hope this helps.

It is not fair to McAfee posing problem with the Defender:

    Windows Defender:

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.

Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and should automatically disable the version of Vista in Windows Defender.

Hello, just to be sure I have the correct information, Windows Defender lights not in Windows Vista with Microsoft Security Essentials, as Essentials has its own version of the Defender.  The error code I received is the same as the previous posts in which is: 0x800106ba.  Again, just to be sure, I understand, I should stop trying to turn Defender because Security Essentials has covered it, okay?

    Hello

Yes; Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender for the reasons you mentioned.

If she didn't turn it off, you should manually have to do it anyway.

    This information explains Microsoft explained:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/protect/Forum/MSE-protect_start/Windows-Defender-and-Microsoft-Security-Essentials/5309cb8d-02e1-40E8-974f-0dcedb9ab9fd

Q: is - this installation of Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7) disable Windows Defender?
    A:
Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender in Vista and Windows 7, and then uninstall it from XP. In some cases, this does not happen automatically.

Q: what happens if I do not disable or uninstall Windows Defender, if I use Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7)?
A: If Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both running, your system can know the performance degradation and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time.

    Hello

I want to disable Windows Defender (WD), so it is not incompatible with my Internet security software. I disabled WD "msconfig.exe" and "services". • Which disables Windows Defender?

From time to time when I'm going to use Windows Defender, it stops. I can then turn it on, but I am bothered by this. What is a virus or a clash with some other prigram? I'm an XP user.

If you have (MSE) Microsoft Security Essentials MSE installed it shuts down.

  • MSE has disabled windows Defender. I can't use both?

When I click on windows Defender, a popup says WD off .i try to turn it on, but it just repeats. the popup may be difficult to remove. If I have mse but no WD is that a problem?

    Hello

MSE is a replacement for Windows Defender. You will not have a problem if you delete WD.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello

Windows Defender does not have a Firewall.

If Norton edition is a Suite of Internet security, not just an AV, it has its own firewall, and you have disabled Vista firewall to prevent conflicts.

And this has been explained to you by a previous contributor here, Norton disables Windows Defender, which he is supposed to do.

    There is nothing to worry.

  • Windows Defender is disabled

Hi, how are you, my operating system is Vista. Microsoft Security Essentials improved this morning and I noticed my Windows defender is stopped, when I click on windows Defender to open it, there is a box to come as "Windows Defender it off' with a few notes with the insertion. Insertion, there are "put in operation and open windows defender", but when I did, another dialogue box came up saying, ' Windows Defender encountered a problem, error 0x800705b4. This operation completed because the time-out period espired. I would like to know please, if she has something to do with the upgrade of the Microsoft Security Essentials.
I thank very you much for your help, karen bear.

SICE you said that you have installed Microsoft Security Essentials, then this program automatically disables Windows Defender Windows Defender built-in spam protection is provided in Microsoft Security Essentials. You must not worry as long as you are running Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Not understood?

Windows Defender is a stand-alone tool and Antispyware from Microsoft.

Microsoft Security Essentials is Antimalware + AntiSpyware + Antivirus Microsoft tool.

So, don't worry, be happy and relaxed.

I hope that this solves your problem.

  • Is it safe to disable the startup of Windows Defender and its services

I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my machine.

In the analysis of programs that I can disable to start at the beginning - until by msconfig.exe, I found Windows Defender that can be turned off, since I'm using MSE.

    Is it safe to do?

When you install MSE, it will automatically disable Windows Defender and event he could come at the start, it does not cause performance problem. Start by opening Windows Defender and if it shows that it is disable, then you don't need to do anything. However, if it was open, then go to settings and turn it off.

It is better that do not disable startup for Windows Defender, in case you want to uninstall MSE for a reason, you have a protection against spyware and Windows Defender can switch on. But there is no hight impact the performance on your system.

  • Windows defender is stopped. whenever I turn on my computer. setting has been activated automatically, but a message "windows defender is disabled" keep appearing one whenever I click on it. Help, please. Thank you!

Windows Defender is disabled whenever I turn on my computer. setting has been activated automatically, but a message "windows defender is disabled" keep appearing one whenever I click on it. Help, please. Thank you!

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG installed, you don't have to do a thing. These 2 are supposed to disable Windows Defender, because they have their own "defender". Running two defenders would conflict on the other and redundant.

If you have not installed 2 above. Try this...
Start bittun > in the search box, type services > press ENTER > uac prompt > scroll down and look for Windows Defender...
under the State ; It must be said Started
under Startup type : must say automatic
If this isn't the case, right click on Windows Defender > properties >
under the change of automatic startup type to
under service status to start editing
    Click OK.
