Disabling a hard drive in the Device Manager make it stop spinning and using power?

If I go into DEVICE - DISK DRIVES MANAGER, then I right click on my second hard drive internal (not hand on which Windows Vista is installed, but my extra hard drive that I purchased separately and added inside my computer on a SATA port), and then click DISABLE, then can you tell me if this selected hard drive :

1 stop rotating?

2. always powered?

In other words, DISABLING a drive hard internal in Device Manager stops it to use the power and spinning?

The reason I ask is the following: I want to use this second hard drive only for backup, this is why I don't want to use the power and wear when I'm not a backup, in other words, almost all the time.

Thank you!

Hello

Well Yes and no--or it depends on the BIOS - Controller - the inner workings of the drive and
usually, they will follow this path:

A Second hard drive uses the power when not used?
http://www.ehow.com/about_5333434_second-power-not-being-used.html

Don't forget there is a report which do not use the drive to maximize your comfort removes
most of the advantage of not to use regularly to preserve its life expectancy, which is a little questionable
anyway. If use you really only rarely, and then it does not start and stop much, then you
could have extended his life (or not). If the drive is the size, it could be put to better use
then extend his life a little reward compared to the optimization of its purpose.

Here is a recent discussion however please note there is no 'right' way and certainly there
is a roll in all methods.

http://photo.NET/digital-darkroom-Forum/00VBXM

"Generally" things that have the most impact on life in car (assuming that no default) are "generally" heat,
so frequent starts and stops and finally use. The problem is it is almost impossible to
really effectively control the last two unless you use rarely drive. (Problems of food can
also impair a driver, especially brown outs (low power) and voltage spikes.

I hope this helps.

  • External hard drive in the Device Manager but not in disk management

So I have this external hard drive Western Digital 1 TB. I've had for over a year now and it was working fine. I would like to trade my XBox 360 and the computerregularly. Then one day I brought home, plugged into the computer and nothing. My friend and I couldn't understand anything. We have gone as far as removing the hard drive and put it directly into the computer. I have reviewed, that he has lost.

Then yesterday, on a whim, I tried to connect it again to the USB port. It is presented in the Device Manager but says that its drivers have not been installed. Then, I changed the USB ports on the back of the computer and as if by magic, that this is once again. I had full access. Stupid (and you can see where this is going) did not immediately transfer anything off the hard drive. I'm looking for an image and listen to a song off of said hard drive when the drive went suddenly not recognized.

I can see now the reader in the Manager of devices under disk drives, and USB devices. However it does not appear in the disk management window. And Yes, I checked as well the Productdocumentation upper and lower, that it is not listed. Go to the area where you assign drive letters not shown not be. Normally this is E:.

I also tried to remove the UpperFilters registry in regedit. It was not to remove LowerFilters. Obviously, that didn't work or the other.

I tried several cords and all my USB ports with no luck either.

I went on the WD Web site, but they do not offer anything other than a partitioner that I would save rather than as a last resort as there are a number of things on the hard drive I want to save.

So it's not like it's a new HD to be partitioned or an old man who comes out crapped. I know there's the data I just need to get home long enough to get what I need. Maybe I missed my window, but maybe I did not. Maybe someone can help. I'm at the end of my mind on this thing.

Sounds like a problem of partition (maybe corrupted partition tables) if the device is recognized, but not the 'disk '.

There are recovery/repair partition about tools.  Western Digital actually have some but I think that they are made for internal drives.

If I were you, I start with WD and start looking for partition recovery/repair tools.  If this is the problem then it is the right kind of problem and you using the right type of solution can fix it easily.

If this is not the case, some data recovery tools can help you recover some files even if you have to recreate a new partition, although I wish you much luck with this approach!

Good luck whatever you try and make sure that you do not overwrite the what partition information, you have without making backups (many partition edititing software will offer backups)

    Hi deaza,.

Ø Have you connected the USB hard drive to the computer directly or you have used an external USB hub to connect?

O trying to connect to another USB port to check if it works?

O the hardrive shows in windows of the computer when you connect it?

    Method 1:
If you have installed security software, I suggest you to temporarily disable the security software and connect the USB and check to see if the same problem happens. Make sure that you enable the security software after checking.

Alternatively, you can try to plug the USB key into a different USB port and check if it helps.

    Method 2:
I suggest trying to launch hardware and troubleshooting of devices and check to see if it helps, here is the link:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-to-do-when-a-device-isn ' t-installed-correctly

    Method 3:
If this does not help, then follow these steps:

    (a) remove all your USB devices. Use the safely remove the feature to turn them off.

    (b) open Device Manager and navigate to the section for USB. Uninstall all USB drives. There should be one for each USB port, and then restart.

To open Device Manager, go to the link below and follow the steps:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-Device-Manager

    (c) Windows should re - find all of the devices. If it is not the case, note the error message and let us know.

  • Windows 8 crashes when running 'find the hardware changes' in the Device Manager, requiring forced stop

I just installed Windows 8 Pro on a system that were running Windows 7 without problem.  After completing a clean Windows 8 Pro Setup program, I went from hollow driver installation, but found the package to install for my card its caused Windows 8 Pro drivers to lock up and become completely numb.  I had to force a shutdown by pressing the button for 4 seconds.

Trying to solve the problem, I found that manually install the drivers through the device manager didn't cause any problems.  In addition, installation of the drivers available through Windows Update also worked without problem. However, these two methods fail to install parts of the pilot training included him.  Then I have to uninstall the device from the package of drivers again.  I uninstalled the sound card via Device Manager and selected "Delete the driver for this device."  When I followed this with a "Scan for hardware changes" again the list my sound card, I have found that Windows 8 Hung again.

After trying other options with no resolution, I tried to reinstall fresh Windows 8.   To exclude a possible problem with Windows 8, I opened Device Manager, as soon as I could after installing Windows and ran "find the hardware changes.  New Windows 8 freezes.  I can't place blame on post installation any software or driver.  This seems to be a problem with Windows 8 itself.

A final note, sometimes "find the hardware changes" will actually work, but most often it forces the system to hang.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Can anyone provide assistance? (chart below for comparison)

    Processor: Core i7 3770 k

    Motherboard: MSI Z77A-GD80

    RAM: 16 GB

It seems that I am victim of dynamic ticks.  Research on my question, I have found several discussions around the ' net for crashes/freezes random in Windows 8, but none of them appeared to agree to my problem.  However, they all had the same solutions.

Run the following command in a command prompt to disable the dynamic ticks.

    bcdedit/set disabledynamictick Yes

I thought that I have that would give a shot, and it worked.  I wrote this answer, I also found that there is a recent update of the BIOS for my motherboard which indicates "Support Windows8 feature."  With the new BIOS applied, I was able to turn dynamic ticks and have been broadcast since w/o freezes.  I also managed to install all my drivers.  Anyone else having this problem maybe try updating the motherboard BIOS, otherwise try the above command.

  • [SOLVED] "High Definition Audio Controller" could not be started. "No audio devices installed." The Device Manager has no controller "Sound and video game. Information system has nothing under "audio devices".

    Hello

I've had my laptop for 2 or 3 years, and the sound was always very well. Yesterday morning my computer came suddenly with the sound with a red X icon. She was not dumb, and yet no sound came. The sound options show that no audio or recording devices are installed (for disabled AND disconnected devices). There is no 'of sound devices or video game"in Device Manager. Information system shows no information (empty) under its device. However, in Device Manager, under system devices, "High Definition Audio Controller" has a yellow caution icon and cannot start.
I have not installed a new OS or anything recently.
    I have a Dell Inspiron 1545
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601 Build 7601)
    Pentium Dual-Core CPU
    64-bit operating system
    I tried:
    • Relocation and reactivation of "High Definition Audio Controller". I rebooted. No change.
    • Go to the Dell website, download audio drivers for my label service and installation. We decompress in the drivers folder and nothing happens. One will be unzip, try to take me by another plant for IDT Audio and then say 'the hardware found is not supported by this IDT' and is abandoned. I rebooted. No change.
    • Install drivers in safe mode. I rebooted. No change.
    • In administrative tools > Services, I found "Windows Audio". He had started and was on "auto". Six of its dependencies (3 parents, 3 children) had started and were to "automatic".
    • I looked at the system restore. There was a "critical update" this morning here. I restored to a point before update and restarted. No change.
    • Looked in the BIOS for an option on the sound, but could not find one. Restore the BIOS default and rebooted. No change.
    • Ran Microsoft Fix It I rebooted. No change.
    • By clicking on the audio task bar icon runs the diagnostic window thing. It detects a problem with the description: "material changes may not have been detected.
    • Put on the headphones. Nothing changes.
I'll probably have to do a fresh install, am I not?
I would be very grateful if you could help, thanks.
    Jerome

    Right, I fixed it myself.

So I uninstalled "High Definition Audio Controller".
But this time, instead of just turning it back on and let it install it himself, I clicked on "Analysis of the hardware changes" (under the Action). He finds that a new device called PCI something under other devices.

Then I open up Windows Update and click on search for new updates (it also analyzes the drivers) and I think it just automatically reinstall "controller Audio high definition" and then there was no problem of yellow warning sign thing.

If it does not, simply play in Device Manager with looking for changes on the hardware and the update of bollocks.

If you're still stuck, try "Add inherited harware" (this will install an OLD device), click Advanced, click on "sound devices" and video games, wait a while, find a suitable device and continue the process...

    Hello

I studied in the Microsoft Knowledge base, and it seems that this error is displayed because the driver returned error in her routine to the driver entry.
I think that you need to uninstall the driver, and then click find the hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

You can do it in Device Manager. Otherwise, you can remove the drive in the Device Manager list and after restart of the new mobile operating system should recognize the drive again.
After this procedure, you should test the device if it will work.

I also tried the regedit solution, but I have no upper or lower filters...

    I use a hp dv6815nr! Help, please!

    Very respectfully,.

    GK07

I thought I had posted the solution.  The upper and lower filters need to be refreshed.  Here is a solution I found on the Adobe forums. http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/402/kb402306.html

Refresh the CD and DVD drivers list in the Windows registry.

Warning: The registry contains information on the system that are critical to your computer and applications. Before editing the registry, be sure to make a backup of it. Adobe does not provide support for problems that result from incorrectly modifying the registry. Adobe strongly recommends that you have experience editing system files before you modify the registry. For more information on the Windows Registry Editor, see the Windows documentation or contact Microsoft Technical Support.

To refresh the CD and DVD drivers list in the Windows registry:

Important: After you refresh the list of drivers in the Windows registry, you may need to reinstall any other CD or DVD on your computer to write applications. If you restart Windows after this procedure and other burning CD or DVD applications do not recognize the CD or DVD drive, and then reinstall those applications.

    1. Uninstall your Adobe application.
    2. Open the Registry Editor:
      • On Windows 2000 and XP: click Start > run. Type regedit in the box text open, and then click OK.
      • On Windows Vista: Click Start. Type regedit in the search text box, and then press ENTER.
    3. In the left pane of the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class and select the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key, which appears as a folder.
    4. Select file > export (Windows XP and Vista) or registry > export a file from the registry (Windows 2000).
    5. In the export registry file dialog box, select the branch selected under export range, name the file (for example, CDDVDkey.reg) and click Save to save the file to the desktop.
    6. In the Panel to the right of the registry editor, select the LowerFilters line, and then choose the editing command > delete. Click Yes in the dialog box confirm deleting key.
    7. Select the UpperFilters line, and then choose the editing command > delete. Click Yes in the dialog box confirm deleting key.
    8. Close the registry editor.
    9. Open the Device Manager:
      • On Windows 2000 and XP: click Start > Control Panel. Double-click the system icon, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
      • On Windows Vista: Click Start > Control Panel, double-click System, and then click Device Manager in the task pane.
    10. Click on the symbol more then to CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives.
    11. For each listed DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive, select the icon then choose Action > uninstall.
    12. Restart Windows.
    13. Windows will automatically detect and reinstall your CD-ROM or DVD - ROM drives. You can check that the drives are installed in the device (see step 9) Manager. If the drives are not present, open Device Manager and choose Actions > Scan for hardware changes.
    14. Reinstall your Adobe application.
    15. Restart Windows.

Important: If this solution doesn't solve the problem with the application you reinstalled, then you must restore the CD and DVD drivers list in the Windows registry.

To restore the exported CD and DVD drivers list:

    1. Double-click the registry key that you exported.
    2. Close the registry editor.
    3. Restart Windows.

I installed a second hard drive, and while I can see listed in the Device Manager, it is not mounted.

That is to say, it is not in the computer > field at all.

The second hard drive is a Hitachi HDT721032SLA360 ATA Device

Under the hardware ID, it is said: IDE\DiskHitachi_HDT721032SLA360___ST2OA38E

I thought it was a driver problem. Device Manager indicates that it uses the Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385 driver.

I can't find a Hitachi driver for this player. My understanding was that this drive would NOT need drivers.

I have it in the plug of P5 (I think it is P5, it's at the end of the cable with the primary hard drive) and I have a data cable sata from the sata port on the rear of the disc in the slot sata on the motherboard next to the slot in the place where the main in drive is plugged.

The only sites that list the drivers for this drive are all spam (thanks, google) sites.

What I have to change something in my Bios?

    Thanks in advance.

If the drive is listed in the device but not 'computer' Manager, it must be mounted or a new volume must be created. Please see HP - partitioning and names of hard drives (Windows 7) for more information on using the Windows Disk Management Console.
