Discovery Network Vista problems

I have a PC running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit version. The specs are 400 GB hard drive, Intel 2160 1 .8GHz duo core CPU, 2 GB memory DDR2 Ram. I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. I've been running this program for a month without any problem. I have the firewall in Windows Defender disabled and I use Kaspersky as 2 firewalls running at the same time, of course, could cause problems. My problem just started yesterday is the following. I have a Playstation 3 in another room that I share my media from my PC with. I did this for about a year with no problems. Now, I can do more is this. I checked my settings of network discovery and it is on 'custom' and I believe that he used to be in the position "on". But now when I try to turn it on by clicking on the button and clicking on apply will welcome back to custom. I can turn off, but not on. He's stuck on the custom. And I think that it is that I won't be able to share my media with my Playstation 3 into the other room. I know it says that if I changed my firewall settings it could cause this problem.  He said that my firewall settings must match the settings of Protocol I think? I tried the system restore, and it says my system restore is not completed successfully because of an "unspecified error" I tried restoring the system 4 times and I have been unsuccessful. About 2 months ago, I ran without any problems system restore. I can always go online and do everything else on my computer with no problems. It's just a problem of media sharing. I think the fact that he is stuck on "custom" is perhaps the problem because it makes my computer impossible. I used to see my Playstation 3 on the network when I hit view other devices on this network. Also my Playstation 3 always goes online and working properly, while sharing the same router as my PC wireless. I tried to turn off the two firewalls. Try each one separately. To have both. Temporarily, I even uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security for my computer. I even temporarily shut down Kaspersky and Windows Defender turned off completely. Nothing has worked. My network discovery is still set to custom. I've also restored the firewalls on both of these programs to their default settings. Nothing has worked. I have download a different media player a few days ago, called TVersity. I thought this might have something to do with the problem, so I deleted completely. But I think he can still have messed up something in my computer. Sorry to be so long-winded but can someone help me? Does anyone else have this problem? I tried to solve this problem for 7 1/2 hours in a row and I'm frustrated exetremely and all ideas. I'm afraid that I can get more dirty things. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Hi stangrun,

DNScache, Function Discovery Resource Publication (fdrespub), Discovery (upnphost) UPNP device host and SSDP (ssdpsrv) are Windows services.  To access, please click Start, type Services in the search box.  Right-click on the service and choose Run as administrator.  When the service window come up you will be able to locate and see whether or not those services have already begun.  Alternatively, you can right-click and choose start their execution.

Hope this helps, Kevin

  • network between XP and Vista problems

I have 2 computers on the private network, an XP and a Vista.

XP is connected with the ethernet cable to the internet router, Vista with wireless adapter.

I installed the fix on the XP computer as it appears on the network of map.private Vista network, sharing files on both computers.

On Vista, I can see and access the shared files on the XP computer. No problem in that direction.

On XP, I see an old Vista computer network configuration (with an extra disk and other than common shared files) that I can't seem to update.
XP does not see or update the new configuration on Vista computer and I cannot delete the old configuration (shows "open" or "explore" option only).

Microsoft no longer supports Live OneCare, the XP computer had Norton and MS security essentials Vista instead.

Previously, the networking was thin between 2 computers.

I tried repeatedly to share files on the computer to Vista, but since the changes, sharing does not seem to take.
Records are marked as shared, but when I check the details, shows only the user account from the vista computer.

Previously, he showed "everyone" as well.

Since this is the most obvious difference, I guess the problem is with the settings on the computer Vista, has perhaps to do with the switch to Ms security essentials.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello

    (1) what exactly happens when you try to delete the old configuration? Do you receive an error message?

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try the steps from the link below.

    Network connection issues: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-network-connection-problems

Method 2: If the problem persists, then try to adjust your Windows vista computer in a clean boot state, and check to see if the same problem happens.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

  • Network Vista and XP - connection to the network printer problem

I try to print to a network printer connected to a vista from a computer xp machine

    Two computers on a network
Vista machine is connected through the ethernet card and has a connected printer
XP machine is via wireless network

Both machines have the same network name "mshome".
Open ports on the firewall and also left Software Firewall

When I print a job, I see it be wound on the info from the printer on both machines, but then, it is automatically deleted.

I am able to access the hard disks from two computers

The printer works this way, when you share a printer between XP and Vista where the printer is connected to Vista, XP will communicate with the printer and its drivers Vista.

So as I suspected it was due from pilots, in your case XP will be offered 64 bit readers which it does not recognize

If we rely on the printer connected to the Vista 64-bit operating system operating system 32-bit, we need to install the additional drivers (especially the XP must be with 32 bits, only 32 bits of the operating system will not show if it's 32-bit or 64-bit)

So in this case, you must right click on the printer on Vista and go to the sharing tab, and then click additional drivers, it will be the operating system and Version to select and you will need to select Windows XP x 86 and install the drivers

Now your Vista will be the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers installed. Now, when you share the printer, when the Contacts XP Vista, Vista has drivers and it will be able to share the printer correctly. Anish

  • Remove or replace the name of the network (Vista, wired to the router)

I have 4 computers on my network home (a new laptop and Windows 7 desktop computer and an older laptop and desktop Vista, which are replaced - laptops are wireless).  I had a LOT of problem with printer sharing, especially after a reboot printer goes offline, and I can't find any way to get them back another remove printers and reinstalling (disappointment, disappointment, disappointment) online.  And then I started having problems with one of the Vista (cables to the router) computers access the computer Windows 7 new, also wired to the router.

Then I will begin first with the last problem.  Trying to get the old wired Office Access/recognize the new desktop windows 7 Wired, I ended up resetting my fairly new Linksys router e2500 to its factory setting - and in the process gained a new network name.  I finally understood how to get the laptops wireless to recognize the new network (should be easy, but it wasn't), but the old wired Vista insists on the use of the former name of network, one that appears in the network and sharing Center implementation.  The other funny thing is that even though she seems to be using the former name of network, I put on Jack autour with her so I don't have Internet access on my old Vista computer.

I guess that because it is trendy, it seems not to worry about the network name, but it's bothering me because it's not fair.  However, I can't find any way to delete the old name of network.  I spent the day on that and am still confused.  Baffled because it is working and baffled because I can change the name.  I also get a lot of mistakes "Windows cannot access \\myWindows7computername" when I double click on the name displayed in the network folder of Windows Explorer (probably more serious problem).  In any case, I want to address what should be first the problem of easire.

I discovered enabled network, public folder sharing, which transforms file on the computer discovery and Vista network, sharing the printer and sharing active files (but only on the printer and all the other things of file not checked), and sharing files public computer to Windows 7 (the one with the printers connected to it) - and passwords disabled on both (all computers).

So my first question is how to make the network name on the Vista desktop wired old deleted/changed/replaced for the new name of the current network.  Why it does not insist in using the former name of network that no longer exists.

    Ron in round rock

Sorry about that, but I got my answer from another forum, a Linksys Forum - and I will talk about a few things in case other people have this problem/question.

To remove the network name that appears on the Network Center and sharing, click on the link to customize to the right of the network type - and on the next screen, click on merge or delete network locations, you will / should be able to remove (don't know what fusion done or means) the network with the wrong name, EXCEPT that you can't remove it If it is being used (which is / was the problem I had).  When I unplugged the cable between the computer and the router, I was able to remove the network location (the one with the old name of network), I tried to get rid of.

Now for the confession.  All this has nothing to do with the name of the network - and most of the things in my original post is just smoke also.  I was going down the wrong path.  It turns out that with computers connected to a router, there is only one network involved and you can call it anything you like and it will work.  There is no selection of a network involved as in the case of a wireless network.

Network with wired computers name is determined lby network name "you enter" on the screen to customize network settings, the screen you get when you click Customize on the screen of the Network Center and sharing - and you can type in anything you want here.  I'd so go through all this.  I simply had to re - enter the network name on the screen to customize network settings, that is simply a name that you can use for your own reference.

    Hello

Have you tried other computers to connect to your router? You use both wire and wireless
    connection?

Unplug the modem and Router 3 + minutes. And then reconnect the modem - when it is running
Plug in the router - when it is running - restart the computer. This is known as a hard reset.

Check with your router manufacturer support.

What should I do to configure my windows firewall to allow network discovery and file sharing of printers and media streaming and sharing?

    Hi stephanie,.

Thanks for joining us out on Microsoft Community Forums.

Looks like the Windows firewall prevents the discovery network, files and printers, sharing, public sharing of files and streaming media. We will analyze and identify the cause of the problem.

You have a third-party antivirus installed on the computer program?

    Method 1:

    To turn on network discovery

    1. Open advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click on change settings for sharing advanced.
    2. click on the chevron to expand the current network profile.
    3. click turn on network discovery and then click on save changes. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide
    confirmation.

The article below explains all about the network discovery:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/enable-or-disable-network-discovery

If any of these responses not solve the issue, let us then run the sfc scan and check if any file system is corrupt. I also recommend to perform a clean boot in order to find the root cause of the problem.

    Method 2:

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.

    b. type the following command and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command. analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

If a download was interrupted in the Mac App Store, then whenever you have new Internet download should then restart.

If a download application is interrupted

Once an Internet connection is restored, your purchased downloads should restart automatically. The Mac App Store may warn you that there is a problem with the download and ask if you want to restart downloads. Confirming will restart all pending downloads.

Download time may vary according to the size of the file and the speed of your Internet connection. See this article on purchases made on iTunes Store for more information on the time to download large files.

If I use windows 7 upgrade, if it "recycle" files of vista (which might be corrupt) continues to give me the same problems in windows 7.  If this is the case, will install the full version of windows 7 get rid of my vista problems (I guess they are problems and not hp vista).

I see that nobody has answered your original question - what version should you buy?

The decision you need to make has been described by one of the others - do an 'upgrade' or a 'clean install '?  You will have both of these options if you purchase the upgrade version.  You will get no benefit at all to purchase the full version.

It is always better to do an install clean (which erases everything on the machine), especially if you are having problems with the system.  Yet once again, this can be done with the upgrade package.
