Disk Defragmenter displays "Disk Defragmenter was planned with the help of another program." ScheduledDefrag task: The task image is damaged or has been tampered

When you try to start Disk Defragmenter, a popup appears;  "Disk Defragmenter has been set with a different program.

Disk Defragmenter is currently using customized settings created by another program. Before you change the schedule, you should remove the custom settings. "with two selections: 'Delete settings' and 'Cancel '.  By selecting a choice does not produce no result except in order to reproduce the same popup when attempting again to start the Defragmenter

There are several reasons why the built-in function may not work. Here are a few simple repairs:

0. it is malware on the system. Solution: Run an AV Control and also a spyware check.

1. the disk is too full (you need at least 15% free space, sometimes 20%). Solution: Delete files unnecessary and programs until you have more than 20% free space.

2. the disc is damaged and must be repaired. Solution: Open "My computer" and right-click on the drive you want to defragment. Select 'Properties' and click on the 'Tools' tab, select 'Check now' to check the drive for errors. Select the two options, and then click Start (it may take a long time and can restart the PC so that it can do the check at boot time).

3 Disk Defragmenter may be damaged, requiring a restore. Solution: Open System Restore and restore to a point before you start having problems with Disk Defragmenter.

4. Disk Defragmenter may no longer be on the system or is damaged while it needs a re - install. Solution:
a. open the menu 'start '.
b. type '% Windir%\Inf' in the 'Search' box and press 'Enter '.
c. in the window that opens, find the file named "dfrg.inf.
d. right-click on "dfrg.inf" and "install".

5. There are other programs that run the Defragmenter interruption integrated. Solution: Close all running programs. If you think that there may be some running in the background, use Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and then select "start Task Manager". Under the 'Applications' tab, you will find a list of all running applications - you can close these by selecting "end task."

6. If still no luck, try disabling the screen saver when you run Disk Defrag (you should very well leave the system only when running the built-in defragmentation utility).

7. If still no go, try to run the defragmenter in Mode without failure. If she runs, something interferes with her and stalking the interference can not be easy (Note: some versions of Win 7 do not allow the built-in defrag utility is running in safe mode.) If your does not, let's say that defrag is disabled mode safe.)

You should consider to download a free trial of a commercial defragmentation tool.

Here is a link to a Top 10 reviews of the best defrag programs side-by-side comparison:

http://Disk-Defragmenter-software-review.TopTenReviews.com/

You can click on the product and it will give you details on its performance, features, how he did on the exam, etc.

Top Placer will automatically Defrag in the background and the gold medal prevents fragmentation before it happens and can instantly defragment the fragments of leaves who eats to get.

Most of the programs featured offers free trials so you can try them and see what they do for you.

Good luck!

PS: There are more radical actions to repair you can do. These generally handle most situations, but if not let me know and I'll post the other options as well.

There is a fix for this problem with scheduled tasks that you can investigate:

A nice person Dijji he named has already understood this problem and developed a method/nifty program to redress the scheduled tasks and people report that this method works very well and you can read about it here:

It might help to better understand the problem if you read through the House and the Documentation tab first if you can walk through the repair process.  Note that there is a separate tab of Discussion where people report the successes, issues, questions and problems.  The Discussions are useful too when you read them and see what kinds of things people that you meet and how to fix them.

    Hello

I just thought that this solution given by karena on page 2 of this thread (about three entries down) was too broad. especially the part where he proposed deleting all subkeys.
I had a similar problem with my sched task / tasks corrupt and the steps you suggested would not own tasks re-created to replace those corrupted.
FAR the most complete way to solve the problem is by using regedit to tasks, as well as correct tasks corrupt in the system32 folder.
all the steps can be carefully described to get the right solution in the following microsoft support article:

MS10-092, specifically this support page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2305420

While it covers a problem in the sched task caused by a windows update, the real problem is exactly the same, with the same corrupt task messages.

This is the right way to solve the problem, he took a few steps, but it is not difficult. Just follow closely and difficulty only tasks that are a problem in your system.

It's the more thoroughly to solve this problem.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will certainly help the question of fixing.

Please follow the methods and mark the question below:

    Method 1:

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below.

Steps to re-create the Task Scheduler:

    a. Click Start; in the start search type regedit.exe and press ENTER.

If you receive a consent prompt, click Yes.

    b. navigate to the following location.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Schedule keys and remove its subkeys.

    c. save the changes and then close the registry editor.

Now check if the Task Scheduler works.

WARNING: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

I first suggest you to check if the Volume Shadow Copy service is running.

    a. Click Start, type Services in start search. When the page is open, look for Volume Shadow Copy service.

    Disable the antivirus software:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 3:

You can also try to remove the job from the location:

    C:\Windows\System32\Tasks

How to find which task is damaged or altered.

    Hey someotherguy_812,

Because I don't know what programs they work with and without having to look at the computer, it is difficult for me to give you a direct answer. But I can provide resources that seem they could be very useful:
First of all, this article describes the tasks scheduled in a default installation of Windows Vista. so we must do well in giving you an overview
In addition, if you use the quick order to schedule these tasks, this article should be good reading. It covers files damaged during the event planning.
I hope that it allows to get to the answer you're looking for. If you still want to post what you have learned, we would be happy to keep trying until we have solve it for you.
