"Disk hard test" failed

My laptop was not starting and then to a system diagnostics page, advising me to do a hard drive Test. I did, and then he led me to a screen saying:

"Disk hard Test" failed

"Hard drive 1 SMART" (301)

"Hard drive 1 QUICK" (303)

'Hard drive 1 FULL' (305)

Diagnostics of the system... and then it just says: tests of f1 - f4.

What would the next step from here? I'll try some of the different tests.

Thank you, Leah.

Hi Lea,.

All error codes (301 is a Smart failure with 303 & 305 respectively being the short & Long drive Self Test failed) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the question of commissioning.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, please let me know - include the full model number and the laptop Nr - see here for an explanation.

Kind regards

    Hi James,

I would run the DST short test on the hard drive again.  If it still does not respond, it is you say that there are areas of the drive that don't work anymore - that is to say that they cannot be written to or read.  From my experience, it is the beginning of the end for the HARD disk, because over time, areas more and more the reader will go the same way.  The speed and the magnitude of this decline is impossible to predict, but it will happen.  So to answer your question, I always install a new HARD drive, although as long as you do regular backups of your files - (make two backups so that if the drive has completely failed when refreshing a backup, you will always have the other is)-you can continue to use your existing drive until it becomes unusable.

    I hope this helps.

    What does this error mean?

is there a place where I can read the explanations of the error associated with the HARD drive self test?

I tried running chkdsk/r, but it keep saying "an unspecified error has occurred", also, I managed to get the most important files, with "BartPe" and "GetDataBack".

Starting recovery console also causes the BSOD with message unmountable_boot_image...

    Any suggestions?

No, a car will be empty, but if you their Envoy the laptop and then they put the reader, they may then be able to do that, but I expect it to be cheaper to just order the recovery DVDs too and DIY.  Because the discs cost a lot of HP, I recommend only the recovery DVD from them and purchase the disc elsewhere.

  • Compaq presario v6000 v6409tu disk hard bios self-test fail

    Hello

Windows xp no my pc compaq v6000 not starting and bluescreen showed a couple of times. I ran the BIOS (phoenix) disk hard diagnosis and the test failed. When I opened my HDD I noticed green rust as deposits into the connector on the hard drive. After cleaning with a brush, computer loaded XP successfully. But an hour later, while I was surfing in mozilla suddenly the mouse pointer started late and showed computer blue screen saying that windows has been closed down to prevent damage.

I would be grateful if someone can tell me if it's a software problem or hard drive error. If I need to replace my hard drive, what are my options, for example. rpm, capacity, provider? Thank you.

The only way you could have rusted copper into the connector on the hard drive is if liquid got in there so I am reluctant to try to speculate how much damage has been done. I remove the hard drive and connect it to the outside to another computer and run chkdsk on it to see if the drive itself is bad. As long as there is a problem on the part of connector and the interface with the motherboard cannot really trust the onboard hard drive Diagnostics. You could also get an own another new hard drive adapter.

    http://www.eBay.com/ITM/new-Compaq-Presario-C700-F500-F700-V6000-SATA-laptop-hard-drive-connector-/161297513053?PT=US_Drive_Bay_Caddies & Hash = item258e14ba5d

If it does not turn on the hard drive is bad, you can replace it with any laptop SATA drive no more than 9.5 mm thick.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822145587

Above is a good thing. It is slim (7mm) but it will still go into the caddy and connect to the motherboard with the connecting piece. If the hard drive itself is always good, and you replace the connector piece but he always bluescreens, so I would not spend money on a new hard drive. I would say that there was damage to the motherboard.

  • Drive hard test has failed Hard disk 1 (303) fast for my HP mini 110-3700ca PC.

    Windows 7 32-bit operating system.

After a tragic accidental "bump" on the table (I think even it's so serious..), the computer begins to slow down considerably, and when I tried to restart it, it shows:

    Windows error recovery

Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

He recommend me to launch startup repair, but because the HP mini is not a CD-Rom... It shows the error status: 0xc0000225.

It's pretty obvious that bumping could damage the hard drive, so I tried to run the disk check, and "hard disk 1 (303) fast" was all that I've got ACE.

I put a lot of files on my netbook, and I am desperate enough to see that it works again. Help, please!

    Hello

Well, it of very sad, could also be due to physical damage. Anyway, please do a HARD test drive:

    1. reboot the computer.
    2. keep pressing the F10 key when appears the HP logo. This will take you to the Bios configuration utility.
    3. Select the Diagnostics tab.
    4. Select the option "drive hard test" and press ENTER to perform the test.
Note: This test takes at least 40 minutes (with luck)

Go - the hard disk is not damaged, you can restore the data.
Fail - the hard drive is damaged and may need to be replaced, no choice.

    Kind regards.

    Hello

Your laptop is listed as coming with a HARD drive from 640 GB, but given that there is little difference in cost, you can replace this with a 750 GB option.

The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.

750 GB hard drive for laptop.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 64 of your maintenance & Service Guide.

    ***************************************************************

Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system, you can create your own installer of Windows 7 USB drive flash as follows.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

Using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below--these Images are of a very respected source (Digital River).

    Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Once completed, use the Microsoft Tool on the following link to create a USB bootable Windows 7 installer - you will need a 4 GB flash for this drive.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

When creating, tap away at the esc you key start Notepad to open the Start Menu.  Insert the Windows 7 flash player.  Select the Boot Options menu (usually f9).  Use the arrow keys to select the flash drive and press ENTER.

If your laptop will boot from it, use the flash player to perform the installation, enter the activation key for Windows on the label of the COA in the request and once the installation is complete, use the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without the software load extra normally delivered with OEM installations.

You may need, additional drivers and software are here.

  • Hard drive 1 Quick Test Failed 303 G50: next steps/go ahead

    HP G50-133US

    OS: Windows Vista.

Today, after having some problems with the loading of the features of Firefox (i.e. the application Firefox itself, not internet issues), I met a blue screen.  I forgot the exact terms, but I think it was a kernel fault any.  (Must have written those...)  Now it hangs at startup of Windows Vista "loading bar" and does not start in the operating system.  I remember no unusual physical disruption (it drops hard, etc. - this laptop is still essentially in one place all the time, and I am careful enough with my computers).

I ran the first disc hard test, and it reports:

#10008-disque hard to replace 1 and SMART drive past.

It gives the result: failed hard drive FAST (303) 1.

After my preliminary research, this means that the hard drive is a failure, and I need to replace the drive. I can boot into Ubuntu from a live disc and still access my hard drive with all the files it contains.  I don't want to copy these files (300 + GB, etc.) on a drive that started in Ubuntu while external.

My big question at this point:

If I replace the hard drive and copy that all files back on, is it likely that Windows will start again?  At present, it does not start. For me, this means that there is probably a file system missing or inaccessible, or etc.  But, if I just copy all the data to a new disk, this file will always be missing. that makes it sound like copy all files on the drive would not allow me to recover my Windows installation.  Is this the case?  (Or, it is dependent on situation and cannot be determined?)

    Hi apnorton,

Just copy the files from the old HD on the new HD make bootable and you cannot boot into Windows using this player.

The solution is to use a recovery disc for your model of laptop reinstall Windows Vista (I hope you do when you got the PC and have always them around), which will put the operating system in the State of the PC came from the factory.

Otherwise, you could install the OS of Microsoft installation media, but you will probably need a new key system to take this path.

    Good luck!

    Product ID: A7T89UA #ABC

    64-bit Windows 8

    Failure ID: GLWG6K-00075P-MFKT01-60V403

My computer is 2 years old. Recently, he began to act, its been getting really slow and the temperature of the computer has increased very easily.

One day, when I turned on my computer, the screen is blank after the windows logo screen when you turn on the computer, and it remained empty forever. The screen was always backlit and occasionally I see the mouse cursor.

Once the recovery screen appeared when I turned it on, I tried all the options he had (except reset and refresh because he says he needs additional files and insert a recovery disc) and it still does not work.

Finally, I tried pressing ESC to boot and used the system diagnostics menu. I chose the test start and when he finished he said short hard drive DST: failure and starting Test: failed. Everything happened.

Please help... What can I do to fix this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi GRN123,

Error code 24 characters for short drive Self Test (DST) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the startup problem you describe.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

I hope you made a backup of your personal data and you did the recovery disks.

It is generally an indication that the hard disk has failed or is about to fail. The proposed solution is to backup your important data and replace the disk as soon as possible.
