    Hello

I suggest you get into the Recovery Console and use the where command prompt to run the chkdsk command. This scan the hard drive for bad sectors and recover any information from reading. To get instructions on how to enter the recovery console in Windows XP:
The KB above also shows how to use the Recovery Console prompt.
    a. Insert the Windows XP startup disk in the floppy drive, or insert the Windows XP CD into the CD drive and restart the computer.
    b. Click to select all the options required to start the computer from the reader, if you are prompted.
    c. when the "Welcome" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.

    Hello

Are you sure that the CD drive is dead?
I have goggled a bit on the net and found some practical information that there may be some HDD malfunction.
Some guys advised to use the command CHKDSK C: /R to solve this problem.

But if it's a cd player error, it should be possible to disable the drive in Device Manager.

  • Error NTLDR is missing - press ctrl alt del to restart

    Hello

I am extremely embarrassed to admit the following and ridiculously angry at myself for doing something completely stupid as I did, but's done it now... sigh...

I have NTLDR is missing - press ctrl alt del to restart error of nightmare.

This is how it happened. I need (ed) to reformat my hard drive, but first I was going to save everything. I save every so often, that now, I'm not near as often as I should! (last to the top was sigh 21/05/07). Well, not to think, instead of backup, I put the recovery cd in the drive and the screen came up saying: "loading ramdisk" then I got to the next screen basically asking if I wanted to restore out of the box or not. I chose the first step of the wizard who said out of the box. Then I clicked NEXT and realized that I had not backed up my files! So I cancelled out of the restore cd Wizard.

When I rebooted the computer, I got the error above nightmare.

I did research for many, many hours on how to repair or at least be able to start windows. I did the following:

1 creates a disk with ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini boot disk on it to restore, I all but I don't know if the dates say anything on those downloaded from another laptop

It did not work I still came upward with the same error or some other errors one pointing to hal\something. I don't know if it's my boot.ini that causes the problem or what. Oh, by the way, I went into the BIOS and made sure the computer started up to FDD first when you try the floppy option.

    Hello

It s a delicate and stupid situation.
The simplest solution would be the formatting of HARD drive and new reinstallation of the operating system.

But it seems you want to save all files available on the HARD disk.
If all goes well it s not too late

Hmmm. I think you have only one chance! You must remove the drive HARD internal of the laptop and try to connect it to the computer second external USB controller!
This part is not expensive and can be ordered from each book.
You should be able to get access to the HARD drive removed from the laptop...

After this procedure, the HARD drive must be formatted as NTFS, and any partition must be deleted!
Then you should try to start from the windows installation procedure or the restore CD.

Maybe some advice described in these documents may be useful.

  • Playing a disc error occurred - ctrl alt del to restart

I have a user who has experienced this message on startup with their Dimension 4550:

Playing a disc error occurred - ctrl alt del to restart

Here's what I did in my troubleshooting with no luck:

1 tried various other ide ribbon cables.

2 removed all other readers of power and the motherboard with only the first master drive active.

3 deleted all other drives in the bios, leaving only the primary master drive.

    3 replacement motherboard.

4 here's the kicker.  I installed XP SP2 on a new fresh (Seagate 320 GB HDD) and after installation and first start, I get the same "disc error".  What are the chances that both disks have the same problem?  Enough of the ratings if you aske me.  So there doesn't seem to be the mother othe, cable or hard disk.  What could be the problem?

I note that now when I boot from the XP cd it goes to a black screen after the "Setup inspects the current hardware configuration.  I am able to get past this screen if I remove the hard drive and install on another drive clean.

What the hell is happening?  I'm usually skilled enough to fix these issues, but this one left me speechless!

    Thank you

    Tom

  • "NTLDR is missing. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart"is the error message I get every time I try to go on my laptop. What can I do to solve this problem, help!

I use a Packard Bell laptop and this happens everytime I try to turn on my computer. When I restart it, the same message so I'm never able to use it. Your help will be very appreciated.

    Hi THOBO90,

    1. When did you start to question?

This problem may occur if the MFT root folder is very fragmented. If the MFT root folder contains many files, the MFT might become fragmented to an additional allocation index is created.

Try the following steps to resolve the problem:

    Step 1:

Boot with the Windows XP CD in Recovery Console.

    b. Copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM on C: drive i386 folder.

    c. attempts to boot to the desktop.

If not able, follow these steps.

    Step 2:

In Recovery Console, run 8 following commands (press ENTER after each line):

    a. CD of the

    b. ATTRIB C:\boot.ini h

    c. ATTRIB C:\boot.ini-s

    d. ODILE r C:\boot.ini

    e. del boot.ini

    f. BOOTCFG /Rebuild

    g. Add to the startup folder

    Step 3:

If you can start Windows, but get a message saying that the boot.ini file is not valid.

a.Create a new boot.ini in Notepad and saved on the hard drive.

    EXAMPLE:

    [boot loader]

    timeout = 30 default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS

    [operating systems]

"multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Edition family.

  • Disc error occurred press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart

We have a HP Touchsmart 310-1020 PC.  Operating system Windows 7, we received the disk read error occurred press ctrl alt del to restart after idle computer and my husband has rebooted the computer several times.

We don't have a recovery disk.  I ran the diagnostic tool (F9), and all.

I can not enter F11 - the computer makes a weird staticy noise and does nothing

I can enter the configuration, but have no idea what to change even if I read a number of articles about similar problems with other computers.  No Council does seem the choice that I have on this computer.

I unplugged all the cables, including the power cable (there is no external battery).  I pressed the power button for 15 seconds and reconnected the computer.  It does not seem to do anything.

    All advice is appreciated.

A disk read error is normally an indication of a failure of hard disk that requires a replacement of the hard disk with a new one.

I recommend that you buy a USB usb HP recovery media to restore the operating system of your PC to its previous state useful when you replace the hard drive. You will need an office a SATA hard drive no more than 2.2 terabytes. The storage capacity of the original hard drive was 750 GB. This title is so much easier to find in stores or online websites.

You should have a support of recovery recovery drive series four years ago, when you set up the PC. The initial configuration for the PC software asked one who walks it if they were ready to make a record of retrieving the value.

My refuses Samsung R700 Vista start all I get is a black screen saying a disk read error occurred, press Ctrl alt del to reatart.  I can not get to the windows screen, cannot get in safe mode, only the BIOS screen. I managed to get the Samsung recovery screen once, but he said that he did not find the repair disc in! Help, please?

It is possible that your hard drive is damaged. You can download Windows recovery disk (if you haven't) and run Startup Repair this one.

  • recovery disc running on my Acer Aspire 7550 laptop ran recovery.disk1 ok, disk2 collapsed after that he began to read, tried to restart only shows BOOTMGR NOT FOUND. Press ctrl + alt + delete to restart.

When you the first pwr, access the bios, the drive is detected?

If so try restarting disk 1 and see if it will be complete, if it is still fails, then visit www.memtest.org and download/create memory test utility, then boot the pc with this and test memory for at least 1 hour or until you get any failure

  • Equium A100-549 - reading disc error occurred press ctrl + alt + delete to restart

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Equium a100-549, about 3 years, Windows XP Home Edition.
Everything worked very well so far. When starting my computer, I received the message:

A disk read error occurred press ctrl + alt + delete
I don't want to lose my data

Please please I need some advice what to do

    Kind regards
    AGM

    > I don't want to lose my data

Well. Everyone knows that a HARD disk problem can happen and all of a sudden you may lose all the data stored on the HARD drive.
That is why it s always recommended to backup the data on additional HDD, DVD, etc.

I'm not sure if this will help but try this:
Try to boot from the disk Win XP (NOT the Toshiba Recovery disk) and press r. means repair and should start the repair console.
The similar DOS window should open and there, you can use a command:
    CHKDSK drive/p/r

The chkdsk command checks the specified drive and repairs or recovers the drive if the drive requires it.

More details can be found here:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314058

If that does not help, then you need to reinstall new OS.

  • Satellite L305D-S593 - disk read error

My Toshiba Satellite L305D-S593 suddenly stopped. At first I thought he had a little more heated or something, but when I tried to turn back on it gave me a message saying disk-read error press ctrl alt del to restart. I did several times in the same direction. While I tried to reinstall windows, I got lucky if she showed to the installation screen once it did, I followed the instructions for installation clean (I had to do it once before, but for different reasons).

Once he brought me to the menu had to select a partition to install on I said to do it on the main HDD after some loading and that time, he said that it was impossible to complete the formatting required. So I Redid the process and I noticed the music said it had 288 GB of available memory, but before that, I had only about 40. To remedy this, I clicked on the format button and it says that it cannot complete the action because the disk is about to fail.

PS My processor is 64-bit AMD Turion dual core mobile, with 4 GB of RAM

    Hey,.

In my opinion, it has something to do with the HARD drive itself, I guess that it s a bad sector so Windows Setup can format t HARD drive properly. I mean before you tried to reinstall Windows, the system could not start due to a disc read error. This means that the files on the HARD disk are confused because of bad sectors

You can install Windows Toshiba Recovery disk?

If it doesn t work too, I'll try to replace the HARD drive. Usually, it is not complicated and can be done in 5 minutes.
In addition, you can check the HARD disk for errors with diagnostic tools special as Drive Fitness Test. Google a bit for such tools, they are freeware, so it s no problem to find. ;)
