Not really a good idea. What method of cleaning did you have in mind?

I'm not running XP at the moment, but I & others I know have sometimes leave much fuller than the recommended hard drives.

I think that probably 20 to 25 percent of space would be recommended and defragmentation IIRC is impossible, in about 15% of free space.

Not sure I remember the updates warn guests to download for downloads and you may need to be wary of this incase you download malicious software.

This isn't really a specific problem of Firefox.

    A few tips

    • Can unload you all of the large files and folders at least temporarily somewhere else maybe for CD, Flash drives
    • do you normally hibernate, stop making it frees the file hibernation, which is the size of you RAM

  • Flow 11: Disk Cleanup Windows 10 Stream

Just finished the installation of Win 10 on my Stream 11.  Had to remove most of my programs to make enough space to run the upgrade.

In fact I decided to run Disk Cleanup to try to regain space. I thought that because I would be able to use HP recovery I could delete the partition hidden also.

Starting with clean disk, including files cleaning system it has identified about 14 GB, which could be deleted, but after the race, it just seems I won, it was about 1-2 GB of disk space.

That's happened? Why didn't a win space identified by the own drive?

I have not deleted the hidden restore partition but as I want to be sure that everything will be OK after I do it. Am I correct in believing that the 7 GB of hidden space is recovering files and factory settings I can use more since I am now under Win 10?

    Hello @RogerM-Ohio,.

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I came across your post about disk cleanup and he wanted to help!

I wouldn't delete the Partition Recovery, simply because you are currently using Windows 10.  If you encounter a problem in the future and necessary to restore the laptop to factory settings, the recovery Partition will be very useful.  Otherwise, you would need a recovery media.  If you insist on deleting the recovery Partition, then you make a copy first.  Please consult the following documents to help you, if necessary:

HP computers - create and use a Microsoft recovery USB drive (Windows 10)

HP computers - create a recovery Image on disc or save a recovery Image on a USB drive (Windows 8)

The following procedure cleans the files associated with your user account. You can also use Disk Cleanup to clean all the files on your computer.

    2. in the drives list, click the drive you want to clean, and then click OK.

    3. on the Disk Cleanup tab, select the types of files to delete.

Note: To delete all Points except the most recent system restore - click on "Clean up System Files" and you will get another tab called more than Options. Now click More Options, and then click 'Clean up' under ' System Restore and shadow copies "and then confirm the deletion.

    4. click OK at the bottom of the window cleaning disc and in the message that appears, click on delete files.

I have a dell latitude d 600.  My boyfriend hit the disk Cleanup wizard.  Now I'm not sure how much information that I lost.  Where did my desktop icons? I'm not in re cycle bin, where is he at?

    Hi georgeholly,

Disk Cleanup only removes temporary files, empty the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

So you would have not lost any critical information from your computer.

For more information on what disk cleanup, see the following article:

You must specify a linker flag this option in the header of the image of fs9.exe because FS9 is a 32-bit application and use 2 GB of virtual address space.
With the indicator largeaddressaware under your 64 bit OS, it is possible for FS9 to use up to 4 GB of address space.
Get the SBB Explorer (http://ntcore.com/exsuite.php) open fs9.exe, header to open the file then click on 'Click here' and mark "App can handle > 2 GB addresset", save and close fs9.exe.

  • Why is-disk cleanup using excessive cpu

Why my disk cleanup tool uses 100% of my cpu when checking files to remove? Microsoft has a software revision FixIt who would limit their cleaning tool for maximum cpu utilization of 50%. If this isn't the case, I suggest that he. Google has implemented this principle in their system of Chrome. Thank you.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

  • Files dump debugging and log files to install in the disk cleanup window

The two points above appear in my disk cleanup window, and I wonder if it is o: k to remove. The first occupies a space of 283 KB and the other 2537 KB. The description of these two files in the disk cleanup window is "files created by Windows.

I have a second question: I have about 5 GB left as free space on my hard drive of 'C '. If this is considered sufficient, or should I get more? I am a senior retired and only use the computer for basic items.

I have a computer Dell Dimension 4100 with Service Pack 3 for Windows XP - Home Edition Operating System - desktop, 111 Pentium with 930 MHZ, 20 GB hard drive and 512 MB RAM. The file system is FAT 32.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and your response.

"Debug dump files" are copies of the contents of your computer's memory.

When a program crashes, it will sometimes "dump" all or part of the
contents of the RAM to a file on your hard drive. The file is useful to
a technical support person who tries to understand why the program
crashed. (Most of the tech support people have no idea what to do with a dump
    file.)

Unless you have been asked to submit a dump for inspection file, feel free
    to get rid of them.

Setup logs files are "log" installation of a program. If you
Watch a (they are really just text files - open with Notepad) you will have
see that they give a blow by blow description of how the program has been
    installed, glorious detail.

If a program does not properly settled, the Setup log will tell you what that
was wrong. If you have not had a facility wrong, do not hesitate to ditch
    These files as well.

On the question of how much free space on the disk is enough... There is no
standards. 15% of your drive must be empty in order for Windows
The Defragmenter built into the work. In addition, it is to you.

Your processor is another story. It's not easy to find effective security
software that will work on a P3. Even if you only use the computer
for the basic elements, an internet connection is pretty basic for a online
    criminal to find you.

  • I need to recover files I deleted everything by making a disk cleanup.

I did a disk clean up using the 'Other Options' tab.  After completed cleaning, I discovered the calculator function, the system restore and other files have been deleted.  Is it possible to restore these files?  I have Windows XP.

    Hi dollimae,

There is no option to recover files deleted by the disk cleanup utility. However we recommend to check the trash to see if all the files listed there. If so, then restore them.

are you using Windows Disk Cleanup?

unless your data has been in temporary files, that they would not have been deleted

Set the folder options to show hidden folders, see file extensions

then do a search for a photo or a file that you know the name to ensure that the search is to search through hidden files also.

  • Disk Cleanup appears randomly * solved *.

We run Windows XP on some jobs here. Whenever I use my laptop disk cleanup appears and works on both my C (OS) and D (data) readers. He appears to be an automated process that it scans the files, then disappears very quickly. I already modified the registry to disable the disk cleanup on disks with small footprint (even though none of the drives are low on space) it. This seems to have solved the problem on my Windows 7 machines. I erased all the tasks in the Task Scheduler. It tends to get a lot worse once connected to the network and even worse when it is connected through the VPN. It happens almost to the point where the computer is unusable because it keeps flashing these messages to the top and steal the focus. I used Tweak UI if at least it does not my typing away the program I use, but it still flushing and is embarrassing. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

I read somewhere that, in some cases, disk cleanup opens and begins to act as it did for me after, installs Office 2010 which turned out to be defective. We use a system of distribution of the package called Marimba which says installation failed (although the Office worked very well). I uninstalled Office using Marimba and then forced a policy update to reinstall. No disk cleanup message more. I guess they made things worse when the network/VPN because our 'packages' resident on dedicated servers and Office attempted to repair itself in the background, or the installation and has had a problem of localization of sources.
