Distorted with Hamamatsu Orca HR?

I use an Orca C4742-95 through machine vision experience.  I put two platforms in place, each of them have the same model camera hung.  Computers also use the same firewire card, a "Texas Instruments TSB82AA2 1394b OHCI-Lynx IEEE 1394 Host Controller" as tells me that the Device Manager.  Both devices use drivers provided by Hamamatsu with the revision of August 2011 of the DCAM API.

When a camera is hooked up to the most recent computers we use, the image is distorted, if it is defined in 16-bit mode.  This is true with HCImage, the software that comes with DCAM-API, but also to channel OpenCV.  Here is an example:

http://imgur.com/PsLKy

The thing is, the problem is not with the camera - cameras, camera controllers and cables work fine on another computer.  Two computers running Windows XP, but it was recently commissioned and built (we have downgraded from Windows 7 to XP in case it is the question, with no luck).

In HCImage, if I set it to 16-bit, it only works 2/3-ish resolution or lower - however he captures fine at full resolution, when the 8-bit value.  It seems to me that it might be a kind of problem of bandwidth at any given time, but this computer is new and much higher than the other, characteristics that is 6 or 7 years now (and can handle 16 bits at full resolution without any problem.)

I tried for days reach the support of Hamamatsu, so I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions or experience with this kind of question.  If someone knows a way to adjust the depth of bit to 8 bit by default (or if there is a call I can do via the API to do so; "I've been unable to find any documentation), which would help too, as I'm using OpenCV to capture the stream and we need a video stream to move forward.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It is a common problem with FireWire cameras on newer systems. Basically, the problem is that chipset for FireWire OHCI (provided by only a few providers) generally have only a few KB of integrated buffer space. This normally isn't a problem for most applications that use transfer-style mechanism in bulk where there is control of the data flow and put in the buffer. However, IIDC FireWire cameras make use of an isochronous transfer mechanism where they transmit a packet every bus cycle regardless of whether the host can accept it or not.

It is more hirt because over the past years, the latencies on PC bus transfer (as PCI vs PCI express) have got more time. This increase in latency is due to various design decisions that support the overall throughput to latency. In addition, the push to lower the power consumption of these bus high speed means they use aggressive energy saving technologies to put links to sleep when they are inactive and the CPU itself makes aggressive energy savings. These techniques all them increase latencies for certain types of transactions. This is usually not a problem for the flow of transfers that use flow control, but can cause problems for isochronous transfers as FireWire uses.

One thing you can do is try to disable some features on your energy saving system. For example, Windows 7 allows you to change all your power system management strategy. You can activate the maximum performance profile, and this tends to disable things like sleep States CPU and on links PCIe ASPM. You can also check and see if there is some power saving features you can disable in the BIOS.

In addition, on some with graphic systems integrated, the update of the display can use a lot of band memory bandwidth and compete with the firewire to a strip card system memory bandwidth. Disabling the interface Windows Aero has been known to help in certain situations.

Point Grey has a article of really good support which has some great info that should apply to any provider so cameras:

  • PCI-1422 and RS 232 control of a camera Hamamatsu ORCA-HR (HR C4742-95-12)

    Hello

I'll have some incompatible problems when I try to control a camera Orca-HR (Hamamatsu C4742-95-12 HR) via RS232.

I have a feeling that the problem comes from how the RS232 port emmbedded (emulated?) in the PCI-1422 is used or recognized by the various software that I've tested.

So first, this port emulated/integrated should appear in the series, Max & list parallel port? I don't think, but he's not here, that's for sure. I have 'only' the projection of card PCI-1422.

Case where I can access some of the attributes (accessible from limited functionality) camera:

-By MAX I can change some settings so the snapshots of controller and make.

-I can access these functions by IMAQ ('IMAQ camera set attributes.vi', etc. see Appendix vi example).

-J' have a full control of the camera via the Hamamatsu Hipic 8.0 software, but only if I use the internal drivers and a different com port than those incorporated in the card PCI-1422 (Hipic offers not only port com in any case perhaps because there is no by saying?)

Case where I can't access the camera at all:

-If I try to use VI to a Hamamatsu (the most recent in sample screws & DLL or older version), it does not work: calls to any function of the 'tmcamcon.dll' return errors, pointing to the fact that there is no camera detected: the first sub_Vi (tm_initialize.vi) will return no error but zero connected camera and other screws return errors saying there is no camera using this handle, or no camera can be activated at using this handle.

-I have NO camera control via the Hamamatsu Hipic 8.0 software if I use the DCAM API drivers no matter what com port (incorporated in the card PCI-1422 or other).

Does make any sense to you?

I just thought that the Hamamatsu screws cannot access the camera via emulation RS-232 of the PCI-1422. Is there a configuration setting, that I could use to those who do work and do not have to restart from scratch with IMAQ and with only limited functionality?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Hello

In fact, you can have access to the serial port integrated on the PCI-1422 map only with IMAQ functions.

This explains that you cannot see in the section "Series and parallel" in MAX.

I have not really well know PCI-1422, but there's probably a way to access the serial port on the card PCI-1422 in MAX.

Camera attributes, you are able to access with IMAQ, y then the camera assigns the has camera driver.

If you are able to access more attributes with Hamamatsu driver, it is the manufacturer who decided to restricted access to other drivers.

But if you are not able to use the screw manufacturer, you should probably call him to find out why it works badly. Perhaps a version control problem or a update of the firmware?

It isn't in itself a problem with the API of Hamamatsu dcam, LabVIEW.  You must ensure that you have installed the most recent of their site http://dcam-api.com/downloads.php

If you still can't make it work, you need to take with Hamamatsu.

  • His distorted with Equium A110-276

    Hey guys,.

I've had my Equium A110-276 for about 6 months now. Sounds still quite low summers on this topic despite raising the bars of masters and all that, it never reached a record of true. Anyway the main problem is, since last night, sounds, so they music or video or just XP sounds, they just really distorted, as if the speakers have a hard time to get the sound.

Could someone suggest, please? I can't watch or listen to something for the moment, that slow, crackling distortion is so boring.

    Thank you!

But you said that the new installation of the OS has helped! So there must be something wrong with the operating system or the files of the audio driver...

The laptop supports an Audio Realtek ALC 861 HD audio chip. Visit the realtek website and try to reinstall the driver of his most recent.
If it does not help reinstall the OS... who knows why it happens... maybe a 3rd party applications has a bad influence on some registry keys or system files

  • Audio distortion with headphones

So I only got my Xperia Z5 for a week or two. This morning, I put on music, and in the middle of my commute to work the sound became saturated. He was really strong bass notes that has overshadowed everything and bad static which crosses. I tested my headphones on different applications on the phone - music Amazon and Youtube - and the sound was still distorted. I also tinkered around with the sound settings and restarted my phone several times. No change.

I tested my headphones on my PC and excluded from my helmet as the possible source of distortion. It's certainly the Xperia Z5 Act up.

    Anyone has any idea why?

I checked that my software is up to date as well. The sound was fine until this morning. :/

For example, when I played left4dead and left4dead2, the sound effects of the fire are annoyingly distorted.

Please someone help me with this.

    Thank you.

Thanks for the answer but Debra advice includes my problem is the following:

Make sure that your speakers are properly connected to your computer

I'm sure that they are correctly connected, in which case I have no option to open the folder of my laptop because of the guarantee agreement. I tried my cd of music in other laptops, and the result was not that different, slight distortion. I think that the distortion in the music and other sound effects except those two games, occurs because the SRS Premium Sound technology. When I use Equalizer sound, sounds a bit distorted, but if I disable it, no distortion at all.

I reinstalled the games, and there was no noise problems at all. I don't know why, but maybe the problem was welcomed after a update for my driver realtek audio hd which I couldn't recognize before.

Thanks for your advice and help Debra and Palcouk!

  • Gradient mesh - segments distorted with no anchor points

I often run into a very strange behavior with the gradient mesh tool, where a line segment becomes strongly deformed (bent, looped or with a hard angle in it) has no anchor points or control handles to take account of the distorted line segment. I've seen this happen with the gradient mesh tool. In my last occurrence of this issue, I should be a curve segment gently between two flat control points, and on the contrary, there is this huge "elbow" in what was a difficult angle and almost a loop that has nothing to do with the anchor points. There are has no anchor between these two points (I started with a rectangle and has begun adding and manipiulating points).

Anyone know of what I speak and have a workaround or a solution? Or even an explanation of why this happens maybe make me less frustrated.

  • Sound distortion with sounds and Windows streaming media

First of all, I'm not very technical minded, so please excuse my attempts to describe it!

A few weeks ago, the sound on my laptop became distorted - metal kind of high, very "rough" and nasty high-pitched squeal kind of like your comments. Happens on all Windows sounds, on the media (like YouTube) streaming, but WMP works fine so I know it isn't a problem of speaker, need software.

Just before this happened, I tried to download and install Skype, but couldn't get my microphone to work. I then uninstalled Skype. I also installed Spyware Doctor from PCTools, but there were some conflicts when he tried to run scheduled scans, three times, I started my computer to find the message "your system has recovered from a serious error" (I also have Norton Antivirus and Windows Defender running). So I uninstalled Spyware Doctor.

I tried to find info online on this and have since downloaded and run CCleaner. I also downloaded and re-installed the Realtek driver for my sound card, but I still have this problem. All tips are welcome!

Very beautiful ;) Thanks for this useful info.

  • Audio distortion with keyboard and mouse

Recently bought an Acer TC-605 from best buy.  He spent a few days in downloading and installing the latest windows updates.  When I start it first using the computer, I'd work on something in ms office and listening to itunes at the same time.  Audio would sound perfect while perhaps 15 to 30 minutes, then skew thereafter, whenever I moved the mouse or use the keyboard.  Tried to update all the drivers, but did not.  However, when I remove the mouse usb cable and reinstall the problem disappears.  But 15 to 30 minutes later, problem comes back again.  It would be a bit embarrassing to reinsert the usb mouse taken every half hour.  Purchase and installation of a pci usb card will fix the problem?  I think that maybe my onboard usb ports must be bad.  Or is the problem with something else?

Running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Service Pack 1 on a Dell XPS PC 8700 Special Edition.  I have the audio distortion / rupture & dropouts/skips during playback of music from the computer via headphones or external speakers.  The problem occurs if the source is iTunes, Windows Media or optical drives.  Listening longer, more frequent & become serious mistakes.  When to listen torn copies of the same music through an iPod directly connected to the stereo or headphones, no errors occur.  I installed an ASUS Xonar U7 external sound card.  This seems to have improved the overall sound, but it has not solved the problem of distortion.  The drivers concerned appear to be up-to-date.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.
