Divide a virtual disk in two virtual disks PERC H710

Hello guys,.

-We have a server PowerEdge R720 with a PERC H710 Mini storage controller which has 8 drives 1 TB each of them.

-We have created a virtual disc, which includes 8 physical disks configured in Raid 5.

-We have installed Windows 2008 Server R2 and we got 4469 GB no allocated space that we cannot use due to the limitation of the disks of the Basic.

What we really want to do is reclaim the unallocated space of the existing virtual drive and put it in a new one, so that we keep 3 disks for the virtual disk 0 and we use the 5 others for the new virtual disk 1.

-Is that possible without destroying the data we have?

-Help please!

Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad English :(

Unfortunately, there is no way to do it without restarting.

Option 1

What you have described, you could divide drives upward into distinct from VD, leaving a 2 TB or smaller for the operating system.  It will cost you a value of an extra disk to disk space (VD0 RAID 5 = 2 TB, VD1 RAID 5 = 4 TB).

Option 2

You can create "slices" on the disks - you still all 8 disks in a disk group, but you would cut a smaller VD for the OS, and then the rest of the disc space can be a VD for data (each VD will appear as a "separate" disk in Windows, so the second VFD can be converted to GPT and be as big as you want While the first VFD remains an MBR disk to boot into the operating system in BIOS mode.  This will give you return a value from an extra disk to disk space over Option 1 (VD0 RAID 5 = 100 GB, RAID 5 = 6.9 to VD1).

Option 3

You can switch mode UEFI, create a VD with all 8 disks (as you did), convert the GPT disk, then install.  UEFI is necessary at the start of the GPT disks and GPT is required for disks larger than 2 TB.  It would also keep 7 TB of usable disk space.

You can also consider a RAID 6, if you can accept the value of another drive 1 TB of disk space.  Since a reconstruction of the drive may take 1 to 2 days or more, a RAID 6 would provide better tolerance to failures and protection during the vulnerable period that the disc is out of line or reconstruction.

    Hey Assem,

Once you have created a primary partition, it is not possible (for Windows XP) to divide the partition without using third-party software. You can see:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000 to create a new partition.

    Hi Mohamed,

You can partition your hard drive for a full installation of the operating system using the recovery media provided by Toshiba, when you bought your laptop. However, this will cause the re-installation of your system.

If you have already installed your system and wish to keep it, you will need a software product to handle the repartitioning without crashing your system for you. These products are available commercially (Norton Partionmagic for example). Try Googling for them.

  • How to divide scanned a 'double page' two pages 'single '?

I read Community Forums of discussion of this date of the 2009 and 2011, but I wonder if a solution may have been added to Acrobat for the five years that have elapsed since the 2011 community discussions I read?  Ive downloaded the latest Acrobat Pro DC, and I use a PC with Windows 10 I scanned the stories of magazines and books to my computer in the form of PDF files. Books and magazines onto the tray of the scanner so that each test and each page of the PDF contains two pages (one double page) of the book/magazine. Is there an automated/simple process that will split each page scanned in two, so that the PDF contains now correctly sequenced images of a page each page in the book? • Divide an ArrayCollection collection into two lists

I have an ArrayCollection collection I need to split into two lists based on what 'section' they in. In other words, I want all the points where the 'section' is 1 in one list and all the points where the 'section' is 2 to be in another list.

Should I do two ArrayCollections? Filter data in a single ArrayCollection collection in the various lists? What is the best way to do this without having to store a duplicate data in memory (IE not repeat two "sections" twice)?

  • How do divide you a virtual machine between two data stores?

We just installed a new SAN ICSI and created an ISCSI target on it. We have created a new data store on our server ESXi 4.0 and reminded our Iscsi target. Our virtual machines have two logical drives, for the system partition C: and E: for data. At present, all virtual machines are residing on the 1 data store, which is located on the local hard drives of the esxi server. How pass readers E: of the virtual machine to the SAN and let C: readers where they are?

    Hello

Or if you don't have a Vmotion, you can use stand-alone Vcenter converter to migrate your VM on the same ESXi host. and during this process on the Advanced tab, you can divide your virtual disks in the desired data store. You can keep the C: drive as it is on the same data store and add new vmdk and select its data store that you want, and then can move E: or D: drive until the new vmdk.

In this way, you can split your C: and other disks on different vmware disks on different data warehouses.

Let me know if it helps.

    Kind regards

  • Reduce the size of the virtual disk RAID 5

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual disk PERC H700 RAID-5. Total size of the disk is 5.5 TB. The problem is that WinServer 2003 cannot use the disk due to the MBR 2 TB limit (and I can't convert to GPT without destroy all partitions, which is what I try to avoid). Since 3.5 TB of drive space is unallocated (and reconciliations), is there a way to reduce the size of the virtual disk to remove this space which can not be used anyway? Then, I could by using the remaining capacity to create a new virtual disk that can be set up as GPT and access the space through it (or two new virtual drives 2 TB and 1.5 TB in size). I know that you can expand a virtual disk, but you can a shrink?

No, you can develop most of the virtual drives, but you will not be able to reduce them.

You will have to start on this subject, creating a VD less than 2 TB for boot/OS disk, then the rest can be used in an another VD.

See the errors, we bought new HARD drive and need your advice how we should move forward? Should we take offline from the old hard drive and then warm the new HARD drive? or we just need to upgrade the firmware of raid controller?

If the disc is in a foreign State (or 'disappeared'), then it is already 'offline'... you simply remove it and replace it with a new one.  ALWAYS replace the replaceable drives to hot 'hot', then make sure that the drivers and firmware are updated once the reconstruction is complete and the system is sound (start with iDRAC and the BIOS, then the other firmware system).

  • Addition of physical disk to the server

Here's my situation, and I hope you can help. I am responsible for the upgrade of one of our PowerEdge R520 with a new hard drive. The server is a simple file server with 2 4 than to of disks in a raid 5 array. The raid controller that we have is a Perc H710. Seeing as how there are currently data client on the server, and it is used on weekly, duration of operation and keep intact/intact data is very important. The only way I see myself being able to integrate this new hard drive, if I create a virtual disk to OSMA. My problems is that there is currently not a virtual disk to re - set up is not an option. If I create a virtual disk, you see him causing problems with the current configuration of the raid? I'm almost certain, I'm just too react here because I never heard talk about software raid being able to re - initialize a raid configuration, while the OS is running. Needs to be done using the raid during the startup. Once the virtual disk is created, I should have no problem adding this extra hard drive. Should the virtual disk created before installing the new hard drive or is it really important? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In addition, OSMA can see the disk that is not part of the picture and he said that loan, the rest are online. Currently, all I can do using OSMA is assign the drive as a hot spare. While it is useful, I need to be able to use the disk for storage. Once again, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You have several bays RAID configured on the same set of disks.  It is "cutting."  Online capacity expansion does NOT work on arrays into slices.  This is done more often to avoid the limitation 2 TB on boot floppies and/or compatible BIOS systems.

So, if you want to add disks to your existing RAID 5, you would have only two options: 1, 2 and 3, remove 1) VD expansion through to reconfigure, and then recreate your other VD again; or (2) backup data, wipe all the VD to create new VD (s), restore the data to larger VD.

In light of your installation, sounds like it will be easier for you to simply add the new drive as his own VD (1 disk RAID 0).

  • Satellite Pro A210 1AZ Disk Partitions

    Hello

Hope someone can explain to me. We have two Satellite Pro A210 1AZ identical machines, Windows Vista Home, 120 GB of disk. They have two partitions on the disk in the computer. C: Vista is 56.2 GB and data E: is 54.0 GB. I guess there are other accounts hidden for the missing 10 GB partition and I guess that is the recovery partition.

My problem is the following. Everything written in C:, programs, Documents etc., and it is more or less complete. The E: is not used. Why is there an E: partition? Why not a single 110GB C:?

I know that I can copy files on the E: partition but trying I find annoying. My wife doesn't understand anything on the partitions, folders and files and just wants everything to be where you expect it to be - in Documents or photos. Seems reasonable.

What can I do to get rid of the E: thing and have just a large C:?

NB - I have no interest is messing around with the PC, I want to just use it and forget about it.

    Thank you

    Fred

    Hello Fred

I don't know how much experience you have with the PC, but it is usual to divide the hard driver to two or more partitions. each partition can have a different name and you can save specific data on the specific partition.

For example, I have three partitions:
    C for the operating system
Private D for stuff like photos, movies and mp3 files and
    E for Business stuff

Anyway, if you want to have a (the ability of the entire HARD disk) partition, you can delete second partition and expand the C partition to use any HARD drive capacity.
Open Control Panel > administrative tools > computer management.

In the left pane, under storage category, click on disk management
Now select and right mouse button click on the partition that you want to change.
In the context menu, you will see options to extend, reduce or remove the partition. Select the option you want.
If your 2nd partition is empty, you can remove the 2nd partition, and then expand the 1st partition to use the freed up space.

  • Design of switching two ISP and HSRP/VRRP

    Hey Cisco community,

We have two ISP currently in use, divide us its routes to two routers with a sleep using HSRP active routers and also try VRRP. But the passive router / Eve cannot receive all packages in other ways we are testing using route determination.

Is it possible to activate the active HSRP/VRRP configuration so that when a router is in standby mode or passive it can still receive packets from other routers.

Please do not hesitate to suggest or comment

    Thank you

    Hello
standby-passive router just wait for failure of the active router and then take the notes the active role.

Try using GLBP (Gateway Load Balance Protocol) which can achieve what you mentioned above.

Or you can configure two groups VRRP and 1 group first active router and 2nd group the second router will be active. And then, you statically configure hosts on the network who should use what virtual gateway. This isn't a smart solution.

HSRP can balance only at the level of VLAN. This means that you need to divide your customers into multiple VIRTUAL LANs.

Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
