DMA2100 versus DMA2100-A1

Can someone tell me what the differences are between the DMA2100 and media center Extender DMA2100-A1?  Buy.com has two models for sale at very different prices, and I can't find any info on the more expensive DMA2100-A1 on Linksys website.

I think it's just a glitch in the database of buy.coms - I think that 'A1' entry may even be the original entry, because you'll notice that there the price is just a little more that the 'list price' Buy.com lists for the DMA2100.  They have the same entry of "shadow" for the DMA2200.

  • DMA2100 cannot find network

It is probably something easy. I just bought a DMA2100. I went through the routine of installation, including the configuration screen. When I get to network connection issues, choose wireless, then it goes in search for wireless networks screen - and crashes. No wireless networks are found, can not go backward or forward to the questioning, need to repower or reset the device again.

I have a router Netgear Wireless G with WPA2 encryption. The router is only 10 feet of the DMA. I also disabled the encryption for a bit to see if this can help, but it didn't. And there are other networks in the region where he would have to see also, but it didn't, just hangs.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

As a final to this channel update, I found an ethernet cable just long enough for the DMA to the router. Then I went through the Setup routine using ethernet wired rather than wireless. Above all, I was hoping that some additional settings may be available or miracle.

What happened, was that she did almost immediately an update of the firmware online. I have reset the device after, disconnected from the ethernet, then crossed the wireless configuration. It is immediately found my wireless network and about 10 others in the region.

So I guess the firmware loaded with the device was somehow bad. Don't know how a wireless client can only update the firmware on this machine, but I got lucky.

  • DMA2100 reconnect to the VMC

Just got a DMA2100. Implemented as an Extender, all worked fine (ish)!

He tried the next day... get «pending for PC...» "then eventually times out. I ping the PC Media Center Extender so it seems that the Extender connects to the network OK.

Only way to make it work again is to go through Setup again and it works OK until I tried again the next day.

No firewall in my network and installed the latest firmware on the Extender. No message recorded in the event viewer on the PC after turning on the Extender on the PC that makes me think that the Extender is struggling to find the PC for some reason any.

    Any ideas?

I think I've solved the problem. Some time back I enabled ICS get Bluetooth Internet access. Anyway, I tried to disable ICS on the NIC in the PC and now the Extender reconnects OK. Weird, but there you go!

FYI, if others have this problem and find that there is no 'Sharing' tab under the properties of the network adapter that may be because ICS has been enabled with 2 network cards not configured but now there is only 1 network card installed. You can get it by installing another network card. I just installed the MS Loopback card which then allowed me to disable ICS on my Ethernet card. After that, I removed the loopback adapter.

  • DMA2100 pause, fast forward and resume won't work with video files.

    Hello

I have the extender DMA2100 working with and Win7 media center movies streaming absolutely perfect.  The problem I get is when I try to pause for more than a few minutes or go out to a movie and try and resume, which until the beginning of the film! It's so frustrating to anyone can help?

    Hi Scottking69,

There are questions about the compatibility of Windows 7 and DMA (as a few years ago). Linksys/Cisco, it has been verified that it is NOT officially supported. But some do work but not at full capacity. Hope that this would settle the question whether it is supported or not.

    See you soon!

  • DMA2100 cannot find wireless networks

    Hello

I just unpacked it 3 DMA2100 to use at home with my HTPC. I started to configure the first DMA2100 but are struggling to find my wireless network.

A network is found, and it's the ISP´s Internet router that goes right in the Internet (and so I don't want to use ).

I connected the DMA2100 to a wired gigabit port and configured it and did the firmware upgrade to the latest firmware (. 12).

I then rebooted the DMA2100 and retried to search for networks. Same problem, only my ISP´s router appears.

Then, I turned off the router ISP´s (thinking maybe it's a bug that shows just the first available wireless network), restarted the DMA2100 and tried again. No networks where found.

I have 4 laptops in the House all are my two wireless networks and use them successfully. I have 3 Xbox 360 that uses wireless and find all networks with success. I have a PS3 which is all networks and use them successfully. In addition, on most devices, my neighbours networks shows (two) on all other devices, depending on where I place it upward.

    Not on the DMA2100 tho.

My personal router in the House is a D-Link (curse) DIR-855. I can't say I m satisfied with it, but I had no problem with other devices connected to it. The SSID broadcast is turned on and I ve never seen not see if friends up or so come with their laptops.

I seriously need some advice and support to get this working. What can I do to make these DMA2100 find my wireless network?

    Hi Wilkins,

As my post stated, I updated the firmware 1.1.12. I'll try to non-secure network to see if it s the problem, very good idea. Pain after back my results later.

  • DMA2100 - how updating to 1.1.5 firmware?

    Hello

I have the version of firmware installed 1.1.12 and my DMA2100 has a wired connection to my router.

But when I go to the general-> check the updates, I get: "no new firmware was found.

    How do 1.1.5?

    Kind regards

    Dag

    Hehe, my bad.

I think you are absolutely right! I read it as compared to 1.1.5 1.1.1.2.

But of course it is 1.1.12 which is the last.

    Thank you!

    Best regards

  • DMA2100 disconnects in the video menu

My DMA2100 works absolutely perfect when you browse the music or playing music or videos, but when I review my media files in the video menu, after 15 seconds - 2 minutes, I get a messagebox saying 'Media Center no longer works' (free translation, I'm under a Dutch version of Windows), and after that, I get a dark blue screen of 'loss of connection to the extender.

On my laptop, this problem does not occur.

I am running the latest version of the firmware.

    Hello

Try to uninstall the CODEC packs video that you have installed and check if it would still give you this error. The video CODEC packs could cause a conflict when loading video files or the thumbnails of the video files.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot get the DMA2100 to complete the set up at the end

I seem to have a similar problem to the one mesotonic posted at http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?comm_cc=US&comm_lang=en&board.id=Media_Adapters&message.id=4040#M4040

As suggested by Mared1784 in this thread, I went to five listed (hyperlink) of the updates of Windows and downloaded. I got almost throughout the Extender in place of the finishing process, HOWEVER, in the end, I always get this screen "Windows Media Center update required" appear on the TV and it may not cross , even if I downloaded the updates from Microsoft. After download, the following Media Center updates are now confirmed by my computer:

    KB932818

    KB935652

    KB941229

    KB955519

    KB960544

    KB967632

    KB947172

Meanwhile, my wireless router, the DMA2100 and the PC seem to be connected because when I open Media Center on your PC and go to 'Settings'---> 'Extender', it shows the DMA2100us here with the phrase "ready to use". Also, when I go into 'Settings'---> 'Network' in the Extender, it's showing the connectivity with the router. I JUST can't GET the EXTENDER to CROSS WHO * bleep * 'Update required WMC"SCREEN.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?  Thank you!

    D. Bill goes

Grand... Thank you! I installed Vista SP 1 and when my PC rebooted I was able to get Media Center to display on the TV. HOWEVER, now I have a problem with getting the DMA2100 remote to navigate as well vertically and horizontally on the base of Media Center display page. It shows the "TV + Movies TV recording" box and I can open and maneuver around that. I can also move horizontally (using the > keys on the remote control) to 'live TV' on the right box and open it. However, when I try to navigate vertically to the 'Music', 'Photos + Video', 'tasks' or 'Media online', using the ^ button on the remote control, absolutely nothing happens. So, I'm stuck and unable to acess my Media Center more important boxes/folders. Meanwhile, on my PC when I open and run Media Center I can fully navigate anywhere on his page to display.

Any suggestions? What I have to make adjustments on my PC to allow navigation full on the TV using the remote control DMA2100, or is it rather a problem in the DMA 2100 (or remote control) itself? Should / can do?

    Thank you.

    Bill D.

  • DMA2100 is frozen after trying to install wireless

I tried to connect a new DMA2100 to my VMC and now it is completely frozen, locked, hanging, etc.  The initial screen will appear and you can window around during about 5 to 10 seconds, but then the device is completely insensitive.  I was wondering if it was a bad camera, I brought another House and it's the same thing.

Here's the background, I tried to run the installation program to use wireless initially but the DMA2100 would simply wants it "search".  I was never able to screen so I just unplugged the device, which would lead to a repetition of the same loop.  I found a thread that said having the same questions that has been set using cable and update the firmware.  I've updated to 1.1.6 and then was able to complete the configuration and use the functions of the Extender.  As a result, I restore to its factory default condition, disconnected from the power, and disconnected the cable ethernet with intentions to go wireless.

(Remember, it's about two units) When I turned on the unit (s) back, I noticed as the default splash screen does not pop up but rather the main screen which has 'Settings' or 'SFBC '.  Nevertheless, I followed through "settings" to run the installer again and choose Wireless this time.  Once more, it froze just.  I even waited all night on a single unit.  This time, when I recycled power to the capacity of the facility, they arrived in the State where I can only window autour for literally 5-10 seconds until I can do it without more (I waited all night for that to change too).  I tried the 'soft' reset (5 seconds the reset button) and the hardware reset (holding company of discount for 10 seconds power, break of 10 seconds and 10 seconds on).  None of this changes anything.  Within 5-10 seconds, I can window autour enough in 'settings' to see that it is a "wireless" network management mode  But I did not have enough time before it crashes to change anything.  My finger on the distance from the lock time was fun the first 10 times I tried.  even when I thought that I managed to change something, it froze again.

I can't believe there is no real way to reset this (USB port?).  Literally, these units cannot do anything now.  I'm still waiting to hear from Linksys, but I thought that I would like to probe for any input...  I am actually very happy with all of my other Linksys products, but the quality of these units is really shocking;  I guess that's why there is a fire sale on these nowadays.

Workaround is to disconnect the antennas while the implementation. Also, be aware, that the wireless MAC address is different from the MAC address on the serial number sticker. If you use filtering of MAC address of your wireless router.

  • Acceptable video formats for DMA2100?

Where can I find a good list of acceptable video formats for the media extender?

    Hello

You can find the video file formats supported for the Linksys DMA2100/2200 at the link below.

Audio & video Codecs for the DMA2200 & DMA2100 support

If you read through a few reviews of the DMA on the internet, it also supports AVI format that uses the Xvid codec.

    I hope this helps.

  • No photos and mpg in Linksys dma2100

A few days after installing my dma2100, it wouldn't find more photos and mpg files. After a lot of research on the net I found this file "fixmediatypes.reg". He saved the problem and it took only a few minutes. All mpg and photo files are back on the dma2100!

    Hello

I think that the installation of Nero caused the problem... No Nero more and no problems after the installation of this file. Glad it worked for you also. Linksys could not give me the information to solve the problem...

  • DMA2100, no picture on composite connection

    Hello

I have a DMA2100 I recently connected to an HDTV via HDMI - a couple of days I moved it to a SD TV but I was unable to get a picture using composite or S-Video. I tried two different TVs with no luck, but it works fine when connected to HDTV on HDMI.

I need to reset to return to SD? If yes how? The reset button seems to do nothing!

    Thank you very much

    Hello

Try to reset the DMA2100 through...

Settings > general > restore default settings

Check if you can now configure the extension using the SD parameter.

    I hope this helps.

  • Help with DMA2100-CA. Media Center stop itself.

Hello. This problem started 2-3 weeks ago. When I go to the "videos" section in Media Center on my TV, try to select a file to play, a message will appear 'Media Center stops'. Then he goes to the logoff screen and stops. The Media Center to reboot, it goes to the screen to reconnect. Once reconnected, Media Center again, but still the same problem.

Funny is that she will play some files and not others. All files are technically the same Xvid avi. Some files will play with no synchronized sound and some will break Media Center as soon as I select them.

Online TV works fine. Photos and music work very well.

    Help, please

    Hello

Now that you mentioned that the MediaCenter Application on the PC has a problem too, then this is the source of the problem. If the MediaCenter Application on the PC hangs even without the DMA2100 lit, then something has gone wrong with the application on the PC and that the error is to be cascaded when you use the DMA2100. As mentioned earlier, you might really need to do a system restore to the time where you don't have yet of all the errors on the MediaCenter Application or you can find the exact Windows update that causes the issue related to the MediaCenter Application on the PC and remove/uninstall it.

On the link of the forum below, he mentions that the MediaCenter Application breaks down can also be caused by a CODEC that has been installed or even drivers for the video card.

    The Greenbutton

    I hope this helps.

  • DMA2100 do connect - HELP!

My DMA2100 does not connect to my Vista MC and keep repeating the message "an update to your Windows Media Center PC is necessary."

I have the latest firmware, DMA and I have the latest updates for Vista and MC.  When I tried connecting it gave me the license key, but Vista fails on the last step of the installation.  Now the DMA does not even me a license key, just the same old message.

FYI... It worked fine for the past year. But then my HP m8300f seemed crap, but I did a cover of the plant and it's been I am now.

    Really miss my Vista MC.

    Thank you!

Well, it seems that Windows has not been done any install.  I came home today to find SP1 has qued and after installing it, the DMA2100 connected very well.  I thought I had installed SP1 yesterday.  There is, perhaps, no?

    This problem is now resolved.
