A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222
It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

Right click on a drive in Windows Explorer, error
Hello
I hope someone can give me a viable solution to this problem with my Windows Explorer which persisted for months. I can't right click on my computer or any player it contains (C:, D:, etc.) via Windows Explorer. I tried everything I could find by Googling the problem. Outside these three methods listed at the link below, I finished the antivirus scans, deleted applications and spyware scans. Nothing fixes the problem. My biggest problem is that my C drive is an SSD, so I cannot defragment on it (or shouldn't, at least). When a drive is a click right (left click has no problems), I have error: Windows Explorer has stopped working.
I followed the three methods available here to resolve, but the problem persists:
http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_8-performance/Windows-Explorer-not-responding/3aa32aab-defd-4c51-bcf5-cad0d046d59e
Any other ideas? Thanks for any help you can provide!
The problem may be with the nvshext.dll:
LoadedModule [179] =nvshext.dll C:\windows\system32\
Nvshext.dll (NVIDIA CPL Extension of Menu context) is a component of the NVIDIA graphics driver and can handle mode without failure.
If you have not already trying to update the NVIDIA graphics driver.
If the problem persists try ShellExView to disable nvshext.dll (NVIDIA CPL Extension of Menu context).

I was on facebook and remove an icon by using the right-click menu, but then all my photos and pictures of profile, could no longer be seen. I was able to view them in the browser, so it's something I've done in Firefox. How can I unlock a site?
If you select that right click menu context then you block all images from this area and not a specific image, so do not use that.
- Check exceptions in tools > Options > content: Load Images > Exceptions (for example sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net)
You can use the following steps to check if the images are blocked:
- Open the web page that has the missing images in a browser tab.
- Click the site favicon (How do I know if my connection to a Web site is secure?) on the left end of the address bar.
- Click on the "More information" button to open the "Page Info" with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "tools > Page Info").
- Go to the Media of the window tab "tools > Page Info.
- Select the first link of the image and scroll down through the list with the arrow down.
- If an image in the list is grayed out and there is a check mark in the box "block Images of..." and remove this mark to unlock the images from this area.

Why don't I have to use Ctrl + Alt + Delete to use my computer?
My PC starts directly from the windows 7 desktop. How ever I can not click on the Start button. If I open a desktop application I can't click any function on it once it is open.
To have access to my PC, I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete. So I have to left click anywhere on the screen (not any text or button). Then I can click on the Cancel button. Once I did, I can use my programs as usual. I have to do this every time I start my PC. This problem exists from the outset, even though I have repeatedly re-installed Win 7 as a 32-bit and a 64 bit OS. Since the first office sometimes.I have also not drag and drop functionality. I can't drag my around my office desktop icons, for example in the trash. This was not always the case and it takes place after the service of some or other update. I spent this morning of uninstallation of updates as much as possible, until finally after a reboot, I could drag and drop from the desktop icons.A program that was unaffected by the problem of drag / move is iTunes. I can drag tracks/albums from iTunes to a windows Explorer folder, but not a file Explorer windows to another. I have to use the dialog box copy - paste on the right click of the mouse. What this problem is, it also affects Google Chrome by preventing the features left click on any of the control buttons. By clicking a new tab, close...I'd appreciate a lot any input on that.My best regards,DuncanLooks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and start safe mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan mode without failure. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.
-
You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE, then click on run as administrator. Then from the command prompt, type sfc/scannow.
-
Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.
`
When you get your system in good working condition, I invite you to back up your system up to an external hard drive and it puts regular periodic updates.

On chrome when I click on a tab, it closes. I can't copy on firefox. It did not help. Also, when this problem is occurring, I can't drag and drop only cut and paste. Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
each installation.Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install

I had to do a full system recovery on my computer with Vista. Towards the end of installation screen is frozen on a blue screen which says that it was a single configuration screen and to ignore the messages etc. other than those who might ask you to restart. This form has remained for more than 1 hour and a half before I dared to think that there might be frozen by pressing Ctrl-alt-delete and then cancel I could get the desktop to appear how I was responsible for approving some updates, more than 90 more. Half of these updates failed, but future attempts had succeeded re installation. Now everytime I restart the computer, it goes back to the original blue single please wait screen. I can go out with Ctrl-alt-delete. I also tried Microsoft Fix - It and the sfc/scannow not detected no problems. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you. Susan

By double clicking on a file in Windows Explorer it only starts the program it does not open the actual file. 1 program, all the others still work ok.
