Do external boot disk

My 2010 MacBook with OS 10.6.8 had a HD crash, and I have a Time Machine backup.

Can I do a start external HD with OS 10.6.8 through the new computer running OS 10.11.6?

I would use an external on 2010 MacBook boot drive until I can get a new internal HD for her.

There are a few programs that I would like to use the Time Machine backup OS 10.6.8

That would welcome ideas. Thank you.

The short answer is no.

    Hi dynamitenews

    1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
    2. what happens when you try to start the computer?

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/BIOS-frequently-asked-questions

If nothing is done, then you can contact the manufacturer support for assistance on setting up the correct boot sequence and check.

  • Disk error non system at boot when using the external USB disk

    Hello

I use Windows 7 Pro.  I have a Seagate external USB disk causing a "Non-system disk error" at startup.
I had the same problem with a Clickfree drive.
The problem occurs on my other PC with different versions of Windows.
How can I get my computer to start and not give me this error message for my backup drive?
At startup (when the drive disconnected), I get a screen of BACK indicating "Client Mac Addr."... GUID..., DHCP. "I think it's looking for a disk boot from.
I just need to boot from the internal hard drive.
    Thank you
    AS

USB external references aren't desingned to be connected on startup, you must also use the safely remove the procedure and disconnect the USB key before closing.

If you get such a screen "Client Mac Addr... etc" at the start (with usb unplugged), looks like you are using a very old motherboard. If the system starts only with connected usb, then your initial installation of victory is defective or damaged

  • Problem with external HARD disk - cannot mount the mac partition and can't unmount the partition windows

    Hi all

Need your help. I have problems with my external hard drive. I worked on it yesterday when the cable is a little detached and disassembled my intestinal HARD drive.

    Here are the specs:

1 Macbook Air 11.5 "running on El Capitan (10.11.1)

2 Buffalo Ministation external (1 TB) HARD disk divided into two: a Mac partition (for time machine) and the other a windows on FAT32 partition.

Before the accident yesterday, it was working OK.

Now, when I connect the HARD drive, it turns on but the Mac partition cannot be mounted (it does not appear on the Finder. I opened disk utility... just load forever and does not work) and the Windows partition is visible... but I can't take it apart without turning my computer.

I can assemble and disassemble a USB stick very well.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

Maybe you can explain a little better.

I would like to make some general comments before having your replay.

It is not wise to use TM on a disk with apple unformatted or partitions, it is preferable to have a dedicated TM drive also.

For TM, the rule is that the drive is about 3 times the size of the boot disk.

Normally you 'survive' a good step disassemble the drive external, but in this case with a another partition formatted on this subject, I'm not sure if that do not corrupt the disk, especially since the Windows partition is bootable. I have suspct the partition GUID on the TM partition table is corrupt.

I propose to start the disk completely: in DiskUtility select the 'higher' level (name of manufacturer) and the Partition, one OS X Extended (journaled) partition table Partition GUID. And use it only for TM, is not too big for this.

Have another drive formatted NTFS for Windows.

  • Satellite Pro 430 CDT - boot disk problems

I have a toshiba satellite pro 430 cdt which I am trying to re - install windows 95 (I have win 95 on cd) on with no luck at the moment.

I downloaded the two files from bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com, win95a and win95b, but have neither the right cd rom driver, so then I got put www.driverguide.com driver this driver on startup disk and change the config file to use the correct driver and I always get the message that no driver for cd rom drive was found.

I don't know if the cd rom drive no longer works, even if the green light on the side flashes when you eject the disc that told me that things seem ok (maybe wrong here however). I have the cd rom plugged into the Bay on the right side of the machine (internal) and drive in the caddy it is connected on the left side of the machine (external) and even if I swap them on the cd rom drive does not work but the floppy drive works in two ways. If the connector edge on the cd rom drive doesn't work properly or the drive itself is shot.

If I remember correctly when the boot disk works correctly it should give you 3 or 4 options (don't remember that it was a long time ago I finally did, and I did not work boot disc, DOH!), which one should be something like, "install windows with the cd rom support" or something like that.

Once I get this I am ok I have win 95 on cd, and it is quite simple installation there from there that I built a few pc and installed different versions of windows with no true front hassels.

Did he have the same machine as me (uk version) and able to compress all the files on a boot floppy from win 95 work and e-mail it to me?

Or just files autoexec.bat and config.sys are all I really need (as long as they work those). Anyone know anywhere I can get my hands on one set of diskettes originally supplied with the machine that I seem to have lost mine, I think there were two or three players but no windows cd, I bought my copy (legit) from a computer fair years.

Will provide you with my e-mail address later if necessary.

    Thanx

    Hi Steve

I found the information that the device was shipped with 10 x player XM - 1502-B.

    Check this box:

There you can find a lot of drivers for different units. But maybe it's something wrong with the occupation of s PIN. In addition, you can ask the service partner for advice.

  • I have windows xp and need to make a boot disk for my cd how do I do it?

Trying to clean up old computer which has windows xp now it does not start at the top. Is there a way I can download a recovery disc to reboot the system, then reinstall windows? I have another computer with windows xp can I use it to create the disks?

To reinstall Windows, you need a Windows XP installation disc.  There is a CD bootable you can create that will allow you to make repairs or backup your data to an external hard disk such as BartPE , UBCD4Win, Hirens Boot Diskand some "Live Linux" free of the such as Knoppix and Ubuntuboot floppies.

However, most of the OEMs have a recovery partition which will restore your machine on the condition that bought.  When you first start, look for a message on the screen telling you to press a key to retrieve.  It passes quickly, then you should look for and press this button quickly.  I hope this will solve your problems of re - install.

I have a blue screen I can't start and I don't have a boot disk I can't start in safe or any type of mode

    ccorr,
Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.  You will need to provide additional information.

What version of Windows and service pack level are you?
Do you get any error messages?
If something has changed on your system prior to this issue (hardware or software)?
What "Startup disk" do you have?  It is the manufacturer of PC?

Here are a few things to try:
The first thing to do is to boot your system and start pressing F8 as soon as it starts booting.  You will get the Windows startup options screen.  Select "Disable automatic restart in the event of system failure" and let it restart.  When it starts, it can now stop with an error screen and give an error message and code.

Disconnect all external devices (printers, USB Hub, drives external, etc.) and try to start.

Post back with the error information and results. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • Invisible recent files on the external HARD disk

My old XP Pro computer came down with a virus.  I bought a new Windows 7 computer and external USB HDD Bay.  The old machine had three physical drives - we had a partition for a total of 4 disks.  I removed the three readers of the old system and looked into the USB port on the new machine.  The problem is that I can't see or find any files that have been created on the partition to boot disk since the last reconstruction of the old system a year ago.  I know the files must be there - how to see and restore the data in them, (e-mail, etc.).

    Help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to make a Windows 7 boot disk?

I am upgrade Vista Ultimate 32 bit to Windows 7 Pro.  I bought the option to download only from the Microsoft Web site.  (Should have at Staples.) I thought that I would have the opportunity during the initial configuration to select a 64-bit installation.  But none.  Instead, I have to boot from the Windows 7 disk - WHICH I don't HAVE, just the installation files themselves.  I can't install anything until I fix this.

How to make a boot disk?  (I have no floppy drive, btw.)

Create DVD installation or key USB from Windows 7 download

According to what you have downloaded (ISO or .box) and what you have available, you can use one of the links below to create bootable media. Use the methods of USB flash drive, your flash drive must be 4 GB or more and the computer must be able to boot from USB. You could also buy the installation DVD if you wish.

DVD from ISO - if you downloaded the ISO file use a burning program to a DVD. You can also use the USB/DVD Windows 7 download tool allows you to create a copy of your ISO of Windows 7 file on a flash drive, DVD or USB.
    http://store.Microsoft.com/help/ISO-tool
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/HT/burnisofile.htm

DVD from files .box - if you downloaded the. EXE &. Box follow these instructions to make a bootable from download Windows 7 DVD:
    http://www.TomsHardware.com/Forum/1392-63-Windows-upgrade-bootable-guide-having-issues

USB Flash ISO - if you downloaded the ISO file and you want to install Windows 7 using a flash drive:
Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool allows you to create a copy of your ISO of Windows 7 file on a Flash DRIVE or a DVD. To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the ISO file and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Once this is done, you can install Windows 7 directly from the Flash DRIVE or a DVD.

USB stick installation files - WinToFlash is a practical application that will help you transfer your Windows 7 installation from a hard drive or DVD to USB flash in a few steps. That you can install Windows 7 from a flash card, USB stick, HDD, etc to your computer or netbook. If you have downloaded the .box file extract everything first. If you have a 4 GB or more large USB key (or external hard drive), and the computer can boot from USB:

  • 5 Lightroom takes half of my boot disk space.  What can I do to reduce the which?

5 Lightroom takes half of my boot disk space.  What can I do?

    The files include catalog.ircat, ircat-journal, log.ircat.lock, backups, preview.irdata...

The presence of the journal and the locking file indicates that you are trying to pass the folder with Lightroom running.

This is not going to work. Close to Lightroom, and then copy the folder on the external drive.

Once you have all this work, you can delete the original folder.

  • Drive light external HARD disk Warrior exploded

I use DiskWarrior do a reconstruction of the hard drive to save the files, if possible. Hard drive does not appear on the desktop, which had been seen as a USB device on system information. During the reconstruction, the Seagate external HARD disk light exploded and is no longer visible to the Profiler system as a USB device. Should I cancel the reconstruction? Should I try disk referee to 'stabilize' the disc and run Disk Warrior?

Can you describe the real problem which caused you to run DiskWarrior "to save the files?  Who can provide a clue about your current situation.

If DiskWarrior' forever,' you have to cancel rebuild it later.  How long it has beed running?  It may take time, if repairs are done by DiskWarrior.

DiskWarrior works repairing data directory player (which defines where the files are stored).  There are other types of utilities who hunt the disc for actual data.  For example
