  I had to re - install Windows XP SP1a, from a CD of resettlement came with my Dell laptop. This was done because I upgraded the hard drive. This facility went well.   I totally agree with PML, you should be able to set up IE and then go to the Windows updates from there, once you get on the Windows Update site it will scan your system and implement critical updates and optional updates SP2 and SP3 should be on the list. It's a way to force an immediate update.

  the problem is that windows xp is not supported by this machine toshiba. But if you really need XP, you can try the following:

  1. install 'Virtual PC' on your Vista system and then use your XP Vista or

  2. collect since internet pilots. I want to say is: know what material is built into the machine (e.g. Vga is nvidia geforce-> go to www.nvidia.com, chipset intel-> go to www.intel.com and so on) and you have a machine with features limited under XP.

  This is the point, everything's all right to vista. :(

  I have done a complete reinstallation of Windows XP Pro from the original disc and managed to update to SP2.  However, when I tried to upgrade to SP3, I got an error that "the site has encountered a problem and cannot display the page.  I tried all the suggested fixes that I can find.

  During the last attempt, I discovered that several dll is missing.  Here's the msxml6.dll, wups2.dll, c:\windows\system32\wucltux.dll and c:\windows\system32\wuwebv.dll.  If they are critical, where can I find them, and how do I get support.

  In addition, mshtml.dll is available, but the DllRegisterServer could not find an entry point.  Is this critical?

  In any case, I still can I install Microsoft Update or download/install SP3.

  The computer is an IBM R50e laptop.

• Cannot install Windows XP SP3

  On a HP w / AMD processor that has recently had a clean reinstall, I can't upgrade to Service Pack 3. Whenever I have try it does not start with the exception of Safe Mode. If I try Windows Update I get error 0X8007043C. To a Web page, it said that I needed Framework 2.0 (I have ver 1.1). I found it, but the installation failed. Later, I found how to install the 4.0 Framework. Who installed correctly, but when I manually installed Service Pack 3, yet once I couldn't start. Had to restore SP2 again, third time.

  Windows update no longer works if you do not have Windows XP SP3 installed, especially after a clean installation with a CD that has service pack 2 only. The installation CD most have xp sp2 so the best practice is to have XP SP3, copied to a USB drive before the reinstallation and as is the case with your system, it is advisable to have also the package upgrade for processors not intel record in thumb drive too.
