Don't run Windows Updater

I was shuffling through the forums to find an answer to my problem: whenever I try to open windows updater window opens for a few hundredths of a second and then disappears. I tried to install a program to know that it requires me to have Service Pack 2, and apparently, I'm still on SP1. But I can't Updater to work.

I currently own an Asus running Vista 32 bit OS. The processor is an Intel Duo P8600. I tried to go through the control panel and activate the automatic update, but I get an error that says, "Windows cannot find 'shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\10\::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81...\pageSettings'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again. »

I tried an another forum on a Microsoft site that has a 'AutoCorrect' response and I tried enabling this program address the issue, but he does not always. I also tried to update the office, as had been suggested in other replies.

I am not very computer savvy, so if you can provide step by step instructions if possible I would be very happy. Thank you in advance!

Good choice! FYI...

After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:

4 steps to help protect your new computer before going online
     http://www.Microsoft.com/security/pypc.aspx

VERY IMPORTANT! =>  Free trial of Norton will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the Norton Removal Tool prior to installing the updates, Windows Service Packs or IE updates to level AND before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

Welcome & thank you for your comments.

I need to run Windows Update to www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx instead of from the Panel.  Can I disable the "automatic" version, or is there another way to go beyond this?

The problem is that my ISP limits the size of downloads of the day, unless I have download only for a certain period of time during the night.  I can't afford to have my computer slow down to dial-up speed during the day below, and since I don't want to give general approval of Windows Update to download and install, I can not limit his schedule.

What XP SP level are you at?

    For your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883820

But that will not help you if you are not at the level of SP3.

You must be at Service Pack 3 level before you can use Windows updates.

To determine which service pack is currently installed on your computer, follow these steps:

    1. Click Startand then click run.
    2. Copy and paste, or type the following command, and then click OK:

    winver

A dialog box displays the version of Windows and the service pack that is currently installed on your computer.

    Method 1:

Log the computer as an administrator or as a user with administrative rights.

    Method 2:

One of the most common causes of this error code (access denied) is the Anti Virus and Anti Spyware software running on the computer. You can try to disable them, and then try the updates again.

Note: Runs the computer without antivirus software or firewall is a potential threat to the computer; don't forget to activate the security software after completing the troubleshooting steps and after you have identified the problem.

    Method 3:

  • Blue screen, cannot run Windows Update

I was browsing Reddit when all of a sudden my laptop decided NOPE and closes everything down to make an update. It was 03:00 so I wasn't thinking straight and closed on the rise and went to bed. The next day, while in the class my phone showed me a blue screen with some writing for everything... long enough not to read what was then asked if I wanted to start in different security modes. I thought that this could be because I interrupted an update and I tried to run Windows Update, but it will still not open.   I can't access anything whatever, and I have a paper in four days... Help, please!

We need the DMP file because it contains the single record of the sequence of events that led to the accident, what drivers have been loaded, and what has been loaded.

WE NEED AT LEAST TWO FILES DMP TO SPOT TRENDS AND TO CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS.

If you're overclocking (pushing components beyond their design) return you to default at least until the crash is resolved. If you don't know what it is that you're probably not overclocking.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting in SafeMode (F8) with networking.
If you are overclocking stop.  (chances are that if you are unsure if you are, you are not)

  • Error 80072EFE when you run Windows Update on Win7 so wireless

You try to run Windows update on a new laptop from Toshiba with Windows 7 installed and a good wireless connection to a router I get error 80072EFE rather than a list of updates. If I connect directly to the router the updated list comes through fine. I can then unplug the router and download updates more wireless.

Initially I was running tried to reinstall as 32-bit, 64-bit Win7, but made no difference. Tried to update after I just installed Win7 before Norton and other applications on. Contacted Belkin and they gave me a checklist of the router to do, but not better. Someone at - it ideas? The problem is reproducible even with Norton and other installed applications. If you connect the router updates Windows detects the updates to install. If you work with wireless it gets error 80072EFE.

    Phil

If I connect directly to the router the updated list comes through fine.

Until you get your wireless connection problems straightened, run your manually check updates when you are connected to the router.

In the last week or so, Windows updates have begun failing on our computers to Vista. Sometimes it will work. If there are no updates, there is no difficulty to install. Error # is always the same. Here is a text of the passage of a WindowsUpdate.log:

An interesting sidenote, if we try to navigate to update.microsoft.com in a browser, after a long break, we get a banner at the top of Microsoft, and three empty frames all display connection errors.

We tried different DNS servers, we bypassed the firewall, we tried all possible parameters in the network configuration of PCs, we tried to define the parameters of Internet security at the lowest level possible.
At this point, I'm fresh out of ideas.

Any suggestions? Does anyone else have this problem?
