Don't start no recent items menu

On the Start Menu, recent items {} is EMPTY.  I ticked the box "Store and display recent items on the Start Menu. But Nada.   Checked the box 'of the elements store and display in the Start Menu and taskbar' and the items appear in the Start Menu, but not the taskbar.  What gives?

You have, by the look of it, checked the two boxes in the dialog box properties of start menu, right click, but you must also click Customize and select the checkbox here for these elements thus [it comes to halfway down the list].

Is it not a neat design?

  • Recent items folder does not display the files saved in the Office 2010

I have a question where the record of recent items (Start/Recent Items) shows not all files that are created in Office 2010 or converted in this format. All other files (for example, .xls, .doc, .pdf) are displayed, but it's not Office 2010 files.

If I open Excel 2010 or Word 2010 and go to file/Recent then files are all listed here as recent files, but do not show up in the start/Recent Items menu.

I use Vista Home Premium with Office 2010, but also have this problem with my PC which is running Windows 7. However, it is less a question here as I have Word and Excel pinned to the taskbar and you can access these files from there.

It drives me crazy because I have to go through a number of additional steps to open files that are routinely used and wonder if it's a 'function' or a bug.

I posted this question in the forum Office 2010 too and it advises to ask here as well. My reason for posting, it is originally that I am convinced that this is a problem with Office 2010. Files created in Office 2010 and saved in the Excel/Word 2003 (.doc and .xls) format very well, appear as files created under .docxand .xlsx that have been converted to the format Office 2003. It occurs only with files with extensions Office 2010.

I tried to dlete everything in the folder and run the "shell: recent ' command, but the opinion is to do this after DELETING the folder recent elements which is something the system won't let me do - there is no option to delete the record.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thank you.

Thanks for the clarification, but once again, I think you're wrong understanding of the issue. The point is that it does not appear in the list of recent items... otherwise I him have not posted the question.

I appreciate that we're trying to be helpful, but it is actually more an obstacle if you have not read and understood the issue of opening. Sorry to be blunt, but the fundamental issue has not received by people either in this topic or the forum of the Office.

However, I am pleased to announce that the elements are now show - do not know what he did, but I think it's the no-check/recheck option proposed by Nithyananda J, BUT ONLY AFTER a REBOOT.

However, I also tried various other things on mine so can't be sure which of them solved the problem.

This occurs if the file desktop.ini in the recent folder is deleted.

    a. Click Start, type "% AppData%\Microsoft\Windows" and press {ENTER}

    b. right click on the folder named recent, then choose Delete. Click Yes when you are prompted.

    c. now, type the command "shell: recent" in the start - menu search box, and then press {ENTER}.

Note: The command above recreates the recent folder, as well as a new desktop.ini file and opens the file.

    d. disconnect and return connection. You should now see the context menu list of recent items clear when you right click on the recent items on the start menu folder.

Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following link.  http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/322756

    Step 1: Follow these steps:

    (a) click on Start and then run.

    (b) type gpedit.msc in the run box and press on enter.

    (c) in the Group Policy Editor, navigate to:

User configuration > administrative templates > Start Menu and taskbar

    (d) double click on menu to delete Documents from the Start Menu.

    (e) select not configured.

    Step 2: Follow these steps:

    (a) click on Start then on Run.

    (b) type regedit.exe in the Run dialog box, and then press ENTER.

    (c) access: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    (d) right-click NoRecentDocsMenu to select change.

    (e) change the value to 0.

    (f) access: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    (g) right click NoRecentDocsMenu to select change.

    (h) change the value to 0.

    (i) leave the registry (Regedit.exe) editor.

  • Recent items in Vista does not update correctly

I have a problem that the recent items on the Start Menu is not updated correctly.  There are a few documents out there, but there are many who don't are not who should be.  If I right click on the recent items and choose explore I can see a lot more files in the C:\Users\Pete\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent folder.

For example, there are few. XLS and. DOC files that I opened recently but don't are not.  However when I explore the folder I can see a shortcut to the directory that contains the missing files.

I tried many combinations of physically erase the folder, by activating / disabling the option elements recent etc, but nothing helped.

    Thanks in advance

I had the same problem. I fixed it by deleting all entries, except the default entry, in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RecentDocs in the registry. There are a bunch of other entries which are numbered for each of the files in the list of recent items. and the entrance to MRUListEx. Delete it all. Unfortunately, there is no file name but only entered, HEX numbers and letters. After doing this, Windows has started listing the files in recent Articles that were not show up there before.

I found that the problem has followed a couple of files that were present in recent Articles when I cleared the list a few weeks earlier. After these files are not present in recent items, but rather the shortcut to the folder appears. Also, I've found that the problem was with the actual files, not the folder. I opened the 2 files, Excel, and a Word document and choose Save under and added a 2 to name the document, save an exact copy of the documents. Each copy has appeared in recent and open items without any problems. Copies of rename the original name and overwrite the originals, reduced the problem. I searched the registry files to see if there's information about save them in a special place, but nothing found. They were only listed in the MRUlists for each of their applications, showing other open documents recently Excel and Word.

Since I had made changes to the documents and saved the changes in copies that end in 2, I chose save as once again and replaced the original files with updated copies. Now my original files, with the update of information, see and open from the list of recent items.

  • Recent items does not properly

Over the last day or two, I noticed items missing from my list of recent items that are usually there. Some articles like the photos appear still but others, such as spreadsheets, are no longer there and are not visible. I also noticed that in the list of recent items and there description (?) on the top of my documents file in addition to the file name (i.e. documemtname.xls). It's new and I don't know why it's there or if it affects anything. I tried restoring the system running, but he failed twice. I deleted the recent items and it did not help once I opened the files. When I checked the location of the folder the recent items, it seems to be adding to the file but not in the menu. • How to enable recent items on jump list

Not sure if it of a problem or not. I would like a list of recent items on my list of jump (in fact, only for MS Word) in the task bar. I only have pinned files, but would like to be able to place a file in the list of recent files and PIN which as well. My problem is that I do not see the recent files on any list to jump from a program in the task bar. I went into the properties of taskbar (start menu/customize) and tried to click on the number of recent files, but it is zero and is grayed out so I can't change it. What should I do? Or is it a problem that requires a repair?

I've seen a few discussions about this in this forum - I don't know if this is a problem, or if there is somewhere a seting I forgot to check.

Right-click on the Start button, and then select Properties. Click on Start menu tab and check the box in front of the store and display recently items in the start menu and the taskbar.

  • Recently opened menu problem

    Hi guys,.

Anyone else having a problem with the models registered user and the open recent list?

I'm on Logic Pro 10.2.1 but it did for a while. A bit boring.

Looks like you have some corruption of the logical Plists Solitaire...

    Then.

Try to reset the preferences of hand Logic...

You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not affect your media files. To reset your settings preferences of the user to Logic Pro X to their original state, do the following:

    1. Logic Pro X to quit smoking
    2. In the Finder, select go to folder menu reach.
    3. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the field 'go to folder '.
    4. Press the Go button.
    5. Delete the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you set custom shortcuts, it will reset to the default values. You can export your custom key as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X user manual for details on how to do this.
    6. If you are having problems with a control surface in Logic Pro X, you can also delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file in the Preferences folder.
    7. Restart the computer.

Note: If you cannot find the files listed above, you don't follow the instructions properly!

  • How to set recent items in system preferences and have it stay with my setting

Noticed that to happen just in the last few weeks.

Use Pages and try to use Open > recent and all I was getting was clear Menu.

Went into System Preferences > general and recent items is set to None.  I changed it to what should be the default value of 10, but he keeps changing to None.

For the life of me, I can't understand how to do so that he can stay 10 or any other parameter as it keeps going back to zero.

Appreciate the help of CIHI people!  Computer info below.

Please, back up all data before proceeding.

This procedure will unlock all your user (not system files) files and reset their ownership, permissions and default access controls. If you have voluntarily set special values for these attributes on any of your files, they will be be restored. In this case, either stop there, or be ready to recreate the settings if necessary. Do that after checking these settings that did not cause the problem. If none of that is meaningful to you, you need not worry about this, but do not follow the instructions below.

    Step 1

If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to step 2.

Triple-click anywhere in the next line to this page to select this option:

    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nosappnd,noschg,nosunlnk,nouappnd,nouchg {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing Command + V. I tried these instructions only with the Safari browser. If you use another browser, you may need to press the return key after pasting.

You will be asked your password of connection that are not displayed when you type. Type carefully, and then press return. You can get a warning to be careful. If you do not have a password, you will need to configure one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your user name "is not in the sudoers file", then you have not logged as an administrator.

The command may take several minutes to run, depending on the number of files you have. Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) to appear, and then quit Terminal.

    Step 2 (optional)

Take this step only if you have trouble with the phase 1, if you prefer not to consider, or if this does not resolve the problem.

Start in recovery mode. You may be prompted to select a language, then the OS X Utilities appears.

If you use FileVault 2, select disk utility, then select the icon for the volume FileVault startup ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name.) It will be nested under another icon of the disc. Click the Open button in the toolbar and enter your login password when you are prompted. Then quit disk utility must be returned to the main screen.

    Select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

in the menu bar. It will open a Terminal window. In this window, type this:

    resetp

Press the tab key. The partial order you entered will automatically end this:

    resetpassword

Press return. Opens a window to reset the password. You do not need to reset a password.

Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name) if not already selected.

Select your username in the menu option allows you to select the account if not already selected.

Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the reset button.

    Select

    ▹ Restart 

    in the menu bar.
