Recently, I brought in my Dim 9200 desktop purchased in 2006 to have installed Windows 7. When I got home, I thought everything was working fine, but I had not noticed at the time there was only a C drive which stood under 'my computer '. I live in a remote area and I would rather not return the computer at this point to check it out. I get an error code 32 when I go in the Manager of devices for readers. I tried to find new drivers, but windows tells me that they have installed the drivers up to date. I need help on what to do to solve my problem.
The dvd rom and dvd +-rw were the original disks when purchasing.
They appear as Sony DVD +-RW AW - AQ160S and HL-DT-ST DVD - rom GDR H10N in my system, if this is useful.
The drivers, see the system32\drivers\cdrom.sys for the DVD-ROM and the driver shows that windows\system32\drivers\PxHIpa64.sys Sony
I appreciate any help at all with this.
Hi Digger2,
Please follow the recommendations in this article. It's not an uncommon problem and an easy fix.

readers of CD/dvd rom registry problems
Hi I have a similar problem I have a sony vaio vgn-ar730e I ordered up the windows of windows 7 now cd/dvd-rom is recognized but it does not work I put any cd in it that it does not start automatically, and the icon is not located in my computer so there is no way that I can access any cd. Also in the reader of cd/dvd properties it says Windows cannot start this hardware device because its information of configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). Please could someone help me with this.
Hello
19 code means there is a driver conflict such as two devices attempt to use the same resources.

Hello
I also have another DVD-ROM doesn't work is no problem. The drive used to work fine until I installed a second drive, replace my CD burner by an engraver of DVD - RAM. The second works very well. I'm used to debug hardware issues but was just lazy for a few months. Today, I put a lot of time to test, read the Forum etc. No luck. My system is a Dimension 8400/Win XP and not work drive is HL-DT-ST DVD - ROM GDR8163B.
No errors in Device Manager. The drive just keeps asking to insert a disc. Any type of disc does work (audio, cd or dvd), but they work very well with the DVD - RAM drive. Here's what I've done:
- Uninstall all of the software (with Add/Remove Programs Win) associated with CD - DVD (Nero, InCD, PowerDVD7, producer of energy, to things, I got with the DVD-RAM).
- Tried the first simple ideas found on the forum. Uninstall DVD driver and IDE controller and remove all keys filters upper and lower in the register (as you see below redbook remains). Delete all errors in the registry with CCleaner three times, until there was no error on the left. I noticed there are still entries in the registry for software that I removed (whole folder of Cyberlink stuff is still there). Have you not tried to erase that. An example of windows efficiency unsinstalling of things. You get not just on a Mac. Oops sorry for this comment. Maybe it's the best solution. Buy a Mac, put the DVD-ROM and it should work fine... ; >). I used to do the Mac support and installation of a few years back... Anyway.
- Unplug the DVD-RAM drive to keep only the no work in the car.
- Do the first four steps of this page: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_cdrom&thread.id=138730
- Reconnect the DVD-RAM to run Dell diagnostics from the utility CD (I don't have the utility partition because the main hard drive has been replaced). From the DVD - ROM drive self-test. Seek and reading tests just asked to put a disc in the drive, I tried several times. Like in Windows, nothing is known.
- Finally, I even tried to remove redbook.sys file drivers, reboot, Windows successor but the DVD-ROM is not working.
Now, the only thing I can think is to try the drive in another computer. I'll try that, if I can find a friend who let me open his PC.
Any other suggestions?

Hello
Most of the USB 2.0 DVD burners will be compatible XP (be sure to get a burner so you can make CD
and DVDs and not just play).A very good source of information would be supported by the manufacturer of your system and their forums (if any).
Another good source would be your local computer store or even a major retailer like Best Buy
or the FRY.This is good, but there are many good brands.

Hi beverlyrogers,
The CD/DVD driver is the generic operating system and can be reinstalled from the Device Manager.
Click on the start menu and type: devmgmt.msc in the start search box and press the Enter key to open the Device Manager window.
Expand and then right-click on the category of CD/DVD drive in Device Manager and select the uninstall option.
Then, restart the computer to install the driver for CD/DVD by default operating system.

In the right pane, click UpperFilters/lower filters.
On the Edit menu, click on delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Exit the registry editor and restart the computer.

Pavilion p6744y: HP Pavilion p6744y DVD-ROM does not not after installing Windows 10.
I have recently installed Windows 10 on my Pavilion p6744y. Since installation, the DVD-ROM does not work correctly. This worked perfectly before the upgrade of the OS and is the original drive installed by the manufacturer.
Spin discs and the light flashes, but there is no response from the computer. DVD - ROM does not appear in Device Manager and has been confirmed as "ENABLED" in the BIOS Setup screen. All wires and cables are attached and tight.
The HP Support Assistant is installed and confirms that all the drivers and software are up-to-date, like Windows Update.
Microsoft contacted for support and remote access to the PC. They have attempted to install an updated driver, but have been unable to find newer and easier to apply than the drivers already installed drivers. They were unable to solve the problem and advised me to contact HP. Contact HP is not useful because the PC is out of warranty and they expect me to pay for the support.
Help, please. I suspect all that I need is a updated driver to make the DVD - ROM communicable with 10 visible Windows.
I know a little about this stuff, but I'm certainly not a computer "guru". Please keep the simple resposnes with easy to understand by a layman terms.
Thanks for your help!
I FOUND A SOLUTION!
Research in the blogs of support paid off in a big way. A minor registry editing is all it took, and my player works like new!
Here is the solution. My system is Windows 64-bit 10.
Resolution 5: Create a registry subkey
Note to use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. If you need help, check that you are an administrator, go tohttp://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin
Important follow the steps described in this section carefully. Serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you edit, back up the registry to restore in case of problems.
To create the registry subkey, follow these steps:
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the run. (or right click on the windows down icon to the left)
Type regedit in the run box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow
In the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
Right-click atapi, point to new, and then click key.
Type Controller0 and press ENTER.
Right-click Controller0, point to new, and then click DWORD(32-bit) value.
Type EnumDevice1 and press ENTER.
Right-click EnumDevice1, click on change...
Type 1 in the value data box, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor. -

Hello
You receive messages or error codes?
This can happen if the CD\DVD drive requires updates to the firmware or need to assign a drive letter for the same.
Since you formatted the Windows XP system, you can check out the link to HP support and check if it helps.
CD/DVD drive is not detected (Windows XP, ME or 98)
Important: Change the BIOS (Basic input output system) / Semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.
We can also refer to article and check if it helps.
Your CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
Important: The article mentioned above, including the HP support article contains steps to change the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
