double windows xpsp2 install; deleted partition; shows still "select windows.

tried to re-install xpsp2, and computer hung at windows startup. Since installed xpsp3, but cannot get rid of "select windows" article #2 xpsp2 & point windows (a win 98) #3.  They both go to «...» ».
Q? How can I get rid of these fake listings?  RSVP

Start > run > msconfig [Enter]

The System Configuration utility opens. Click the Boot.Ini tab and then click on the button "check all boot paths".

You don't need to restart immediately, but next time you do, you will get a dialog box saying that you have used the utility. Just check the box that says in effect, "don't mind to this subject again". MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
