Downgrade to XP on Satellite A200-1VN

Hi all.
I have the following problem:
I have a laptop A200-1VN Satellite with Vista and I want to Setup with XP.
When I go to the screen "" I know that I have to press F6 for additional driver (otherwise can not detect HARD drive), but I do not know WHAT driver I need to download from Intel.

When I go to Device Manager it know: Intel ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller.

can anyone help?
Thank you.

Hello

First of all, I recommend the European driver of Toshiba for the Intel Storage Manager page and advise to use this driver.
It s 100% compatible with your Satellite A200 - 1VN PSAE6E

On the other hand the SATA drivers downloaded from the Intel page should work also.
The machine seems to be equipped with the card Intel GM965 + IntelICH8M chipset.
On the Intel page, you will find all the details and all the info on the driver compatible SATA.

However, in my view, is there another reason why the BSOD appears.
To my knowledge this BSOD could appear by using the CD of Win XP without SP2 preinstalled.

So, my recommendation is. use nLite to create a new CD of XP and SP2 and SATA to this CD driver. You can then use this new XP CD for the installation of the OS!

    Hello

I doubt you'll be able to download the old version of the BIOS from the Toshiba page
It seems that the European driver Toshiba page always provides the latest versions of BIOS

Someone wrote here that you can try to get an older version of BIOS of your ASP.
Contact the guy and ask him if it would be possible to get an older version of BIOS

PS: Are you sure the new BIOS is responsible for freezing issues? It is hardly to believe

  • Downgrade from Windows Vista to XP on Satellite A200-22I

    Hello

Maybe this topic has arised more than once, but someone can help me?
I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A200 [22I with windows Vista, but I want to downgrade to XP.]

    How can I do?

    Thank you very much

    It's easy,

You'll need a genuine Windows XP CD, drivers and little time.

Next, you need to 'wake' drivers Windows XP AHCI the CD because otherwise the HARD drive would not be recognized during the installation of windows XP. Here´s a link to a very good education how to integrate these specific drivers for a Windows XP CD: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB85017Z0000R01.htm

I know it sounds complicated, but trust me, you´re doing so once and you know after all. ;)

I would also like to download the XP drivers for your machine at the following site: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU

Your model is a PSAE6E which means you need to find the drivers for a Satellite A200 (PSAE6) and download. Burn it to a CD to have available every time when you need it...

When you install the drivers please take care of the installation order how do I install the drivers; I can't tell you the entire order, but the most important drivers must be installed in the following order:

    -BIOS for XP (V5.60)<- i="" would="" do="" this="" before="" installing="">

Then after the installation of Windows XP:
    -chipset
    -Storage Manager
    -display driver
    -sound
    -lan driver
    -wlan driver

and then the other stuff that is for this model

That's all, if you have questions, just ask.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A200 - cannot downgrade the BIOS to v2.40

    Please help me.

I bought a brand new toshiba Satellite A200 series laptop with vista home premimum inside.

For some reason, I'm not a fan of big vista.
So I lowered my XP OS and as I was looking for pilots and all this for XP I saw an update of the Bios for my laptop it's 5.20 which was for XP. Although for Vista its 2.40 as per mentioned on the Web site.

    Now where my problems began.
I downloaded this v5.20 bios and updated.
Soon the problems began as laptop is overheated, it freezes and sometimes refuse to give performance.

As I was unable to find all my drivers for XP I switched to Vista using my recovery DVDs. But the problem remains the same with Vista too, so finally, I took my laptop to a Toshiba Service Center.

They have said that it is a motherboard problem so they fixed, but they have not set the Bios.
I still v5.20 on my machine.

I tried to go down to v2.40 but it always shows an error.

Can someone help me pls... I am able to boot with a USB but I don't have a version of DOS of Bios v2.40.

Please if anyone can provide me with my version of the bios.
I'll be grateful to her for ever.

    Here are my system specs.

    Date 2009-01-26 03:04:19

    [Information on PC]
    Model name Satellite A200
    Part number PSAFCL-01M00P

Not even this when I buyed the laptop he showed me 749 something like a shared graphics memory now it shows only about 399.

I know that it is simply because of this update of the Bios.
Now I am not yet able to play good games.
This machine is almost useless for me now.

No help from you people will get.

I put t know why you want to downgrade the BIOS.
Have you read the information on the site of Toshiba for BIOS version 5.20? I created this:
    > Support Windows XP and Vista OS

So I think that you should not downgrade the BIOS. The most recent BIOS 5.20 is for Windows XP and Vista.
You can find this information on Toshiba Asia because you have the model of Asia (not Europe):
    http://www.PC.Toshiba-Asia.com =>
Update BIOS version 5.20 Satellite A200 (for the PSAF0-* & PSAFC *-* ONLY)

The Toshiba Service Center did a good job with the latest BIOS.

  • Satellite A200 - 1 GB: Questions on downgrade from Vista to XP

    Hello.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 - 1 GB and I want to downgrade to XP, but I have a few questions.

    + I install XP using nlite. +

    1. I have 2 partitions and I would like to know if my other partition (not the one with the operating system) will be also well formatted?

    2. I have Vista Bios. Should I change it to XP? And if so when do I need to do.

    Thank you!!!

    Hello

The original CD of Microsoft Windows XP provides an option to modify, create or delete partitions on the HARD disk.
If during the XP installation procedure, you should be able to install XP on a single partition. Other partitions will not be formatted!

    With regard to the BIOS:
You could update the BIOS after installing XP.
The laptop must run also without the update of the BIOS.

But from my knowledge the FN keys would work using the operating system XP and Vista BIOS. So if you need to use all the features of the laptop, the BIOS update would be desirable.

    See you soon

  • Satellite A200-1AD - downgrade from Windows XP Home edition

I've read all the other different threads around the upgrade/downgrade to XP, but I have a few questions.

    1. What do I need to change the BIOS before I start to replace Vista by XP or can I wait until I loaded the base XP and then make the BIOS change?

    2. If I try and update the BIOS for XP and it crunches the laptop is covered by the warranty?

If the 2 answer is Yes, then I'll save a step by step process that I do to change the operating system from Vista to XP. Any help much appreciated.

    Hello Ken

All I know is some BIOS designed for Windows XP Home edition for computer series laptop Satellite A200. I installed Windows XP Home edition on my A200 but some FN keys do not work properly. Other stuff works well and WXP turns quite quickly.

I recommend installing WXP without updated BIOS to see if there is a serious problem. If this is not the case, leave such BIOS what.

  • Satellite A200 - BSOD after downgrading from Win Vista to XP Pro

    HII

    I bought a Satellite A200.
The windows vista family edition was the operating system that was installed.
Compatibility issue with a particular software that I use, I changed the vista by a XP Professional SP3.
But since then, the computer crashes and present a blue screen. I wish I had some ideas to solve this problem.

    Thank you

    Hello

The BSOD can be caused by the problem of hardware and software problem.
In your case it seems s due to software problem. Maybe a few compatibility problems between certain parts of the software

First you need to check if you are using the version of Win XP BIOS Yes this laptop needs a Win XP BIOS, which could be found on the European driver Toshiba page.

I m also interesting when the BSOD appears you installed Win XP successfully or it was not possible to install the XP because the BSOD?

If you were not able to install Win XP then I guess you don't have included SATA drivers participating in the crib on Intel Matrix Storage.

I recommend some threads here in the forum about this theme.

  • Satellite A200-13th - WXP downgrade

    Hello

I live in France and I bought the Satellite A200-13th. It s a Vista Home Premium preinstalled laptop.
Can Toshiba tell me the CD/DVD recovery WXP?
    Thanks for your reply.

    Hello

It's Toshiba support directly. I don't think that Toshiba offers Windows XP Home for all laptops preinstalled Vista recovery media. Best thing you can do is to contact the hotline of Toshiba or nearest authorized service provider. They have some info about it.

If you need phone numbers visit http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads > find an ASP.

  • Satellite A200-1AG - what modules of memory for the upgrade?

    Hello!

I have a + * Satellite A200-1AG * +. I'm planing to upgrade the memory to 4 GB. Mine uses + (2x1GB) DDR2 - 667 Mhz + and I saw only 2 modules of 2 GB DDR2 - 667 Mhz + cost the same as + 2x2gb DDR2-800 +. I benefit in any way from this upgrade? Can I damage my laptop? I heard that my laptop will work anyway to 667 MHz, but I'd like to know your opinion about it before I buy it.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

You can buy both types of module. The point is that the fastest modules (DDR2-800) downgrade always compatible system at low speed. This would mean that the modules will run at 667 MHz.

So you n t destroy your laptop, it s just a feature. Everything will work correctly.

As far as I know your laptop runs at 667 MHz can accelerate.

  • Satellite A200-23W - SATA1 or 2 interface?

I would like to be sure which is the right SATA for my Satellite A200 23W, bought 2 years and a half ago. What is SATA2? I installed an SSD 60 GB drive with Windows 7 64 bit, but I don't know about the SATA mode I.

FYI SSD (OCZ VERTEX 2 SATA II 2.5 60 GB) works well since I did the installation (3 days ago)

    Hey,.

You can use two SATA standards, because the connector is the same.

If your laptop can handle SATA 1 readers, all SATA 2 drives are compatible downgrade so no problems at all! :)

Way General Toshiba does not support Linux and BIOS update can be done on Linux. All available BIOS updates are versions of Windows and can be updated with Windows operating system.

Out of curiosity, but what type of problem do you have with the current version of BIOS?

  • Satellite A200 PSAE3A - where to find the XP SATA driver

    Hello

I'm going through many discussions here
    (for example, http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=25749)

But I can not all drivers referred to work, I lived about three downloads.

I'm working on an A200 PSAE3A - 07M 007, a teacher who have requested to be downgraded to XP so that school software can work on it.

I also looked at the Intel site, trying to find out which Chipset Intel is on this laptop, they said to go into the Device Manager, expand System devices and look for the Intel channel, here is what I found:

    Intel (r) 82801 PCI Bridge - 2448
    Intel(r) 82802 Firmware Hub Device
    Intel(r) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 283F
    Intel(r) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 2 - 2841
    Intel(r) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 2843
    Intel(r) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 4 - 2845
    Intel(r) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 5 - 2847
    Intel(r) ICH8 Family SMBus Controller - 283E
    Mobile Intel (r) PM965 / GM965 / GL960 Express Processor to DRAM Controller - 2A 00

As you can see, it's hard to tell which is the right one and find the right driver for the drive SATA is painful.

Anyone here know what I should download to put on my external floppy drive so that when I hit F6 during installation of Xp professional, it will actually fill?

    Help, please!

    -Choose laptop > Satellite A200-(PSAE3A)
-Follow the list with 52 drivers listed, and in the Middle, you'll find some DCIS XP F6 Install Tool
