Download new messages (pop)

Many old messages in Thunderbird are corrupt. Options to attempt a repair of the Database sqlite do not look attractive, so that's what I want to do:

Step 1: delete all messages from TB or create an empty TB that was just my message filtering rules

Step 2: connect to my e-mail provider (Google Gmail) and have tuberculosis re-download all messages, including those that I sent. And, of course, properly classify them according to the message filters.

Gmail has all the messages that I need (I delete unwanted messages expired from there, so the working set isn't too bloated spam), so even though there may be 10,000 messages to download, it is a task of acceptable size.

BUT I tried both ways, and TB and Gmail together seem to know what messages I already downloaded and will not download again.

Obviously, Miss me a kind of FORCE RESYNC option. I hope it exists, and you can point me to it.

Thank you!

If you decide to remove all previously downloaded emails and redownload all - see previous answer-

Delete all old messages first compact files, then delete the popstate.dat file.

After you remove the messages but before you start to download, compact folders to remove all traces of marked as deleted messages. This includes deleted and junk folders. The "Sent" folder only has copies on your computer, in order to not to delete these emails unless you want to.

  • Cannot automatically download new messages and auto answer with out-of-Office message must manually check for new messages, so he can do

I use Mozilla Thunderbird 31.3.0. I know how to create a message filter, to implement a response message automatic, but impossible to get Mozilla to automatically download new message and auto reply with the message in the filter, unless I have manually check for new messages, this is the only way to make it work. I looked online and can't seem to find an answer to that particular question. According to everything I found, I have the right boxes checked in the server settings: automatically check for new messages at startup, check new messages, check for new messages every x amount of minutes. It's one thing to have leave my computer and open Thunderbird for this works, but having to manually check for new messages get the AutoReply to work defeats the whole purpose of having an automatic response, because I use them for vacations, holidays, etc. I wondered if there are security settings that cause this problem, but if so, I don't know what changes to do to them. Thanks in advance for any help. It drives me crazy.

I find it a little odd that Thunderbird does not mail on the calendar, you may have an add-on or antivirus program that prevents this.

Now shift while you start Thunderbird will begin with disabled modules to check if the messages are automatically.

By air is to the right, use the autoresponder Verizons. This link might help with this http://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/highspeed/account+tools/email+tools/questionsone/85621.htm#
You say that not having is not such a context in Thunderbird is something that needs fixing. This idea comes across because Outlook has such an option. what most people don't know of it only works with Exchange server. There is no "vacation response" in the specifications of the mail server so every server implements differently.

As all cars have a radiator, you can't take any radiator, and simply put, they are subtly different even if they perform the same purpose. Goes same for stakeholders of vacation, they perform the same function, but they differ between brands of e-mail server software.

Thunderbird leaves the server end to expose the feature, because they are really the only ones who understand what they were doing. Outlook exposes the option and especially greys out.

  • There is not enough disk space to download new messages.

Please when Mozilla is going to permanently fix this problem.
This limitation is stand to fully trust on Thunderbird.

This information will explain why you have a problem of disk space.

E-mail messages are downloaded to the Inbox e-mail account.

The Inbox must be low or even empty number e-mail. The Inbox has been designed as an Inbox for mail and must therefore be used for this purpose read mail must be moved to a folder that is appropriate for the storage or deletion.

If you have e-mail in the Inbox folder, and then move the appropriate folders.

In the e-mail Pop accounts, emails are downloaded and stored in a single mbox file, one email after another in the order they have been downloaded. Keep the very large number of emails in a single file is a risk not worth taking. Where the ability to create new folders and Archives of old messages.

If you email a few months, check them.
Old messages should be archived by month and year, and folder structure should be maintained. This includes the folder "sent" that this folder can sometimes be allowed to get huge. Archiving Range old messages and creates files more small that uses less memory when opening.

After removing the emails in appropriate records and archiving old messages, create a backup and then compact the folders.
When you delete an email, from your point of view that it disappears eg: Inbox and reappears in the trash. In reality, it is always in the Inbox, "marked as deleted", so it is still using the space. When you compact this folder, these emails "marked as deleted" are entirely deleted, freeing up a space. If you do not compact on a regular basis, you run a risk of becoming of the corrupted file and losing everything in the file.

Assuming that the compression went ok, create a new backup so that you have an up-to-date backup.

Additionally, make sure that emails that you leave on the server are deleted after 30 days at least, so that you don't use space quota on the server. More download and auto Pop mail accounts delete the copy out of the server. I choose to leave them on the server for 30 days, so that between and regular backups on the server, I can retrieve all emails in case of problems.

  • Windows live mail not stop 'download' of new messages.

Hello, I am running windows 7 on a samsumg RC512. I use windows live mail to check the corporate e-mail. The e-mail account is a pop account. Any time that I start direct mail it will download new messages and send those coming out. Then it starts to 'download' an infinite number of new messages that actually do not exist. It does not overload the machine or anything like that. Just like that until I hit the stop button. Problem is that if I do not have this message that I need to send will not be delivered, because it keeps doing this download new message loop. I tried unistalling the AVG antivirus and backup program (11 Cobian), nothing works. The account settings are ok and I don't know what to do here. I appreciate anyhelp thanks!

You can back up your messages and contacts before you uninstall / remove Windows Live Mail. Refer to the post of Raphael_S of this link.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thank you.

  • Changed the profile of TB OS update, same new messages keep downloading several times. Why?

LinuxMint17, LinuxMint16 (erased hard disk and renistalled) was updated. Folder (including the profile of TB) restored successfully. Previous emails appear correctly, and new messages (POP) were recovered, but these same messages at least repeatedly, with each check "Get messages". Same problem on two different mail servers.

Already more than 200 messages duplicated in under an hour! Close Thunderbird until I get a fix.

I just found this article when you posted the link. When I tried to delete the files popstate.dat and could not do, I discovered the real problem:

Somehow, when the backup program registered the Mail subfolder to the folder ~.thunderbird/e1aq0j8l.default , he set all files in this folder as root property, including the popstate.dat ones, which prevented the update of the POPstate of every server in Thunderbird.

I changed the properties back to my group and user regular and everything works well.

  • Why send is download 250 messages every time I check for new messages?

Since the upgrade to iOS 9 on my iPad and iPhone I'm drowning in old email!  My POP with Bell (sympatico) account has eight years of my emails on their server. When I check for new mail, my devices download 250 messages each time.  I tried various options in parameters (pressure, extraction etc.) does not. Bell's response is to delete all messages.  There is no option in 'manage my storage' and the mail app uses 1 GB! This is not the case on my computer, so I think the problem might be with iOS 9. Mail is now trying to synchronize with the server?

Have you tried to remove your email account, and adding back?

  • It is said there download new email on the server but nothing downloads then, and I know he has new messages

  • same message keeps downloading no new messages received since

Although I changed no settings and the Inbox was open and running, all of a sudden the same message keeps loading and no new messages are received. I checked the access to the e-mail account on another device without problem.

Turn off email scanning in your anti virus program. Is that what you use?

Leave the mail to download and you can probably turn it back on. This used to be a preferred party of Norton thing, but I guess that if can do that all their possible.

  • Thunderbird 31 will not download the messages from the pop server (to 24 worked) CAUSED by Avast

TBird updated to version 31, it will not download the messages of my pop server. I can send, but not download messages. I restored Win (7) at an earlier date to return to the version 24 of Tbird, and everything worked OK.

TBird later Auto-setting to update itself (ugh!) back to 31, and we don't go again, no E-mail download. I changed the settings to Win firewall, even tried that turned off completely for testing, without any difference. Retarted Tbird and win several times, no go. It's extremely frustrating. Does anyone actually * test * software updates before releasing these days here?

TBird works very well for me in Linux Mint 16, but this glitch under Win 7 just jumped to the top with the upgrade to 31.

Thanks for your suggestions, you can offer!

the typical suspects are AV and firewall software.

  • Will download any new messages suddenly although I kinda

Thunderbird has always worked until two days when all of a sudden, it downloads all new messages, even if she pretends to be downloding. I wait endlessly and nothing happens. When I check my real email from the server, in fact, there are new and important messages. The configuration is fine, tried all the suggested "Troubleshooting" nothing helps.
