  I recently loaded Windows XP SP3 and get the error code and the following message when you try to update with Windows Update:

  I tried the FixIt tool as well as load the latest version of Windows Update as described here:

  Thanks much for the reply.  Seen the idea on another site to change the setting of Windows Update to automatically install updates and then I was able to force the update without problem.  Not sure why it worked, but it did.

  Lately, I noticed that I am not in my Windows Update system update. I've been unable to update my Windows Defender definitions. I was meeting a mistake and info on aid offers me to erase temporary files folders. I did exactly as he wrote it. But it did not work. Instead, now I can't even check updates, because when I stopped to do so, error 80244018 appears. A few days ago, everything was ok.
